We had the "Rae's BBBQ Burger... The Extra B Stands For BBrisket". A juicy 6oz. fresh all beef patty topped with two strips of Rae's signature thick cut maple bacon and a whopping 4oz. of Canadian BBQ beef brisket, smothered in velvety basil horseradish cheese sauce, served on a buttery toasted pretzel bun with grainy Dijon aioli, red onion, tomato, butter leaf lettuce and tangy house made bread and butter pickles. Damn it was gooooood! Messy but SO worth it! Ask for extra napkins cuz you'll need 'em! Shoestring fries lightly salted and crispy! For appetizers we had the Beet Chips tossed in Rosemary sea salt with caramelized onion goat cheese dip and a Chorizo dip made with spinach, artichokes and 3 cheeses served with grilled flat bread! Now can we have a minute to talk about this Chorizo Dip?? TO DIE FOR! Hands down one of the best things I've ever eaten. I want that at my last supper! Order it! I was coming home with two friends after a day at Bird's Hill Park, and decided to stop by here so I can try here for the first time. The ambiance here is quite upscale with the lighting inside. I had the seafood linguine, which came with a garlic toast. It was really good, though at a slightly elevated price. I would say for the north half of the city, this is the best upscale cuisine. However, I would rank this below Cafe Carlo and Tre Visi. Not to take away anything from here though, it's still a great place to dine. Service was excellent throughout here. read more

I just spent the afternoon with 3 wonderful friends at the best restaurant I have been to in a long time. It is Rae's Bistro & Lounge on Headmaster. The parking is not great but once you enter the restaurant you feel pampered and the stress of searching for parking vanishes, The staff are exceptional and the food even better. I had their soup and salad. Loved the soup. And then we all had dessert. We all took 1/2 of our dessert home. All their desserts are made on site. This was a great escape from packing to move. AMAZING food. The portion sizes were well worth the price. The flavours in every dish were amazing. Not to mention the great dessert menu to choose from. The only problem was the service. Our waitress was just very slow. Never checked on us when waiting for our meals to get another round of drinks. Also never checked on us when eating to check on food or drinks. We asked for dessert and took almost 30 minutes to receive the slices of cake (no cooking involved). We were a group of 4 and were there for 2.5 hours just because of the waiting. Otherwise we would have been out in about 1.5 hours. Just very disappointed by the service. read more

We've been attending Rae's Bistro for a short while, each time we visit we are pleasantly impressed by the entire experience. The staff make you feel welcome, they routinely heck on your needs and never fail to stop just to say hi. The food is always a great experience, imaginative and well thought, full of flavour and so well prepared. Their bar menu has so many options and as such the option to experience a wine or beer flight is exciting. We've had family visit from BC and since their first visit to Rae's, Rae's Bistro has become one of their Winnipeg favorites to return to. read more

We were in and out within 20 minutes which is ludicrous. The hostess was seating us, stopped at a comfortable looking booth - long enough that I was about to slide in - and then motioned us to keep coming. Took us to a dinky little table in a corner instead. Not impressed already. When I went to the bathroom the booth was still not filled. When we left we saw two 20-somethings in it so I guess we were too old for the booth and hide us in the corner. We ordered the burger and it literally came to our table 5 minutes after we ordered it. I'm not eating at McDonalds so was again not impressed. The fries were very good but the burger patty was dry and the bacon was half cooked. The margarita I ordered was very good but not good enough to come back. Definitely a one and done. If I have to lie and say we have three in our party just to get a comfortable booth it's not worth it. There were so many tablets open that fit four and we still got put in a dinky booth in the corner. Bad customer service in my opinion. Food was great, but had a hard time finding seating to accommodate our group of 8. We were only offered the lounge, and all the chairs were high and I almost had to leave because I refused to stand for my entire meal. What happened to this place! It used to have AWESOME seating. Now everything is too tall and cannot accommodate people unable to climb into their seating. How on earth would they handle people in wheelchairs!!! read more

Great food but slower service. Dined at Rae's Bistro today for lunch, we were served right away and then forgotten. The gentleman who served us brought us our drinks and suggested a couple menu, he was a very nice waiter. We then ordered our meals. After ordering we drank our waters and coffee and waited for our server or someone to come by to fill them back up but no one did. After about 45 minutes our meals arrived, no offer of more coffee or water and no utensils. I flagged down a lady who was kind enough to bring us refills and cutlery. Our meals were very good, I had the spinach salad with grilled chicken and my husband ordered a burger that was on special. I was extremely pleased with my salad and was exactly what I was craving. My husband was happy with his burger and fries which were homemade and delicious. I suggested 2 tables of 4 next to each other and she said they can't do that either. too bad they can't figure that out, I suspect they have many request based on the local demographics. Extemely poor customer service. I was told it would be a 50-60 minute wait to be sat. I was not asked for my seating preference, as my partner and I were very hungry and would have been willing to sit anywhere to eat.. lounge, bar, bartop, etc. Had another couple walk in right after us with no reservation (I know they had no reservation because I asked the hostess who also appeared to be the manager and she told me they did not have one) and got sat right away at the bar top. I asked her right away why she did not give us or the others on the waitlist the opportunity to sit at the bar and she had no answer, justification or rectification for the issue. I had gone to Rae's for the first time last week and had a wonderful experinece, great food and a great server. Mmm. Stopped at this place today and I'm sure glad I did. Will definitely be going back. Great food and good atmosphere. I had the mushroom and brown butter gnocchi and it was delicious. Also ordered a pint of the 7th Stab red ale and I highly recommend it. They have a few veggie options sprinkled throughout the menu, which is nice. I love that they have their set menu, but also have "off the wall" ordering where they write things not on their menu on big chalkboards depending on what fresh, local ingredients they have. The gnocchi was an off the wall order, so it may not always be there. Service was a tad slow, but the waiter was super nice and he was quite busy. My partner and I have been dying to try this place out and after our visit over the weekend, we are so glad that we did! Rae's featured 6 specials for the evening and our server explained that 10/12 of their taps rotate to showcase fabulous craft beer. I ordered one of the specials that featured white fish and caviar, my partner got the "Big K with fries." THEIR FRIES ARE SO GOOD!! Savoury and skinny. I can't wait to return to try a pizza and one of their salads which both looked amazing as we saw them going out to other tables. The staff are incredible and so friendly too. I visited Rae's for the first time on Sept. 4, 2020. Upon arrival (8:30pm), host asked if we were here for burger week. Now once we were seated and waited for 30 mins for a server to take a drink order, I instantly felt like I should of said yes we were here for burger week. Tables around us were seated after us and served right away. May I add, they ordered the burgers! There were about 4-5 servers or staff walking around and someone finally stopped in and asked if we ordered drinks. We ordered and it came so fast from that one server. Now another half hour passes and my wine is empty, menus closed and a female server asks if we're ready. At this point, I believe we weren't even assigned a server. Anyways food came and my friends grilled cheese was soaked in oil and the charcuterie plate had so much arugula and only mustard as a preserve. Whatever It was still tasty. Server never came back to check up on us so I asked a different server for more wine. Another half hour passes and the female server brings us left over boxes!! We weren't even close to being done eating and you could just tell she wants us to leave. It was 9:30pm (they close at 11). We kept eating till 10:15pm and I had to ask a different server for a glass of wine. I just felt that's the staff was focused on burger week this evening and I hope that when I go back (maybe) that they will give excellent service to all their customers. read more

Pros: We frequent this restaurant often. Food is great, excellent weekly specials, great value. Love the chalkboard specials and the beers, their wine list adequate. Cons: Staff and owners are becoming annoyingly friendly with regulars, to the point of joining them at their tables. Some of the staff have obviously been drinking while working and this all make for a very uncomfortable environment. Just because my family and I come in often, does not mean we are here to socialize with the staff. Went here for some beers and eats as our kids got ready for a game at Gateway arena on a Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere is nice and servers are great. However, it was not super busy and it took 45 minutes to get my food. Made us late for our game. The food was great but it should not take 45 minutes to get soup and a sandwich.
