First time back here since the remodel liked it the way it was but what an improvement. Beer was super cold and the bartender spot on and friendly! Not very crowded end of the season and the band was winding down for the day. Always a good spot to visit with locals and vacationers. Didn't try and food but what we saw looked good. read more

My new favorite "Dive Bar" / "Biker Bar" (like I have a long list, ha!). I mean with a name like this, seriously! The original bar dates back to 1954, but has had some major updates over the years. No doubt about it though, nothing fancy, indoor seating, outdoor covered "Tiki Hut" patio/bar seating, with a band stand that provides live music on the weekends, Friday thru Sunday. They're on the Monroe Canal so like one of their sign says, (Come:) "By Boat, By Bike, Buy Beer". (Believe it's a Dive Bar now?) There's a designated area for motorcycles, TYVM. The first time I visited there were a handful of bikes and riders, but the second time I visited, there was only me and another old dude, ha! I'm sure the time of year is a big factor. In fact I was told by one of my friendly servers that during the summer months they cut back on their operations - being only open Thursday - Sunday. The Pro's: Great Dive Bar atmosphere, come as you are, lots of characters, live music, friendly and hardworking employees, lots of beer choices, and wine (full bar coming soon). Very Good Bar Food (expanding): My first visit I had their "Ragged Ass Burger". This consists of an 8oz angus beef burger with pimento cheese, pickled jalapeños, and BACON, on a brioche bun. Pickle and fries come with. I ordered it medium. It was cooked perfectly, and was really good!! ($14.99) My second visit I had their "Roadhouse". This consists of an 8oz angus beef burger with cheddar cheese, onion rings, and BBQ sauce on a brioche bun. Pickle and fries come with. Again I ordered it medium. It was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious!! ($14.99) In addition to the 8oz angus burger, one may order their 6oz chicken breast (grilled or marinated), or their Vegan, gluten free, "Beyond Burger". The Cons: Unfortunately, RAS sits on the south tip of Pine Island. The biggest con I have is the time it takes to get here. There are a gazillion stop lights one has to endure while going through Cape Coral. Once one passes Veteran's Memorial Parkway, (riding west on 78 / SW Pine Island Road) the traffic lights thin out considerably - then you only have to worry about the slow traffic going through Matlacha (good luck with that during tourist season) until finally arriving at the 4-way stop sign on Pine Island. From here you turn left and enjoy riding the nicest seven remaining miles to RAS. I'll be back (before the height of tourist season). There are several other things I'd like to try on their menu, their Swiss Mushroom Burger and Patty Melt Burger sounds great! On the water. Beer and wine. Paper towels on the table. Silverware wrapped in a paper sleeve. Real good eats. THE PROS: Food comes out fresh fast and hot. Sit dockside on the water or indoors in the funky cool little dining room. We sampled a fairly wide variety from the lunch menu. Conch fritters-sweet and savory with a thousand island style dipping sauce. Fresh not frozen. Also did the fish and chips and a bacon cheese burger. The highlight was the stuffed banana pepper. It had a spicy sweet sauce, but not really like an Italian pasta sauce. Stuffed with a spicy sausage. Amazing. THE CONS: Hard to think of any real drawbacks here. It's exactly what you expect from a waterfront cantina. Indoor/Outdoor patio style bar is located near the center of the seating areas, and because smoking is allowed you can sometimes smell it while you eat. We stopped by twice on consecutive days. Surprisingly good for drinks and bar food. Wait staff is friendly, available and fun. They don't have a liquor license so mixed drinks are wine-based. Their Miami Vice drink tastes like rum and is one of the best we tried. A guitarist was out on the patio singing and added to the fun environment. T-shirts looked cool but were $38 so we passed. This is a dive bar in St. James City on Pine Island. It's off of the main road and on a canal. Their menu says: Come By Boat - Come By Bike - Come Buy Beer Truly a no frills meeting of bikers, boaters and, when we visited, a mother/daughter duo that loves checking out all kinds of places together. Check out our "biker photo". This is a laid-back place to visit when you have time to chill and have no intention of checking the time. Come ready to go with the flow and enjoy vibe. They have covered outside seating, including a bar area. An open deck with tables and umbrellas near the canal offers views of boaters and the water and there is also inside seating. However, most if not everyone, was outside on the day we visited. We visited mid-week for lunch. The parking lot was only scattered with bikes and a few cars, so we didn't have any issues finding a spot. The menu seemed to have enough choice for everyone to find something. Mom settled on the Fish Bites appetizer. The fish had a mild taste, like Mom prefers, and she enjoyed her choice but couldn't finish the entire serving. I had the Thai Chicken Wrap. It included grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato and cheese in a toasted wrap with Thai chili sauce. The Thai chili sauce was decent and offered a bit different taste from the standard chicken wrap you find on many menus. Both were perfectly A-okay and we wouldn't mind coming back in the future. They serve breakfast daily from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and they have daily specials. It's called the Ragged Ass Saloon. Expect some ragged asses. Plenty of smoking, lots of domestic beer, loud music in the parking lot in the afternoon. The food was fine, the beers were cold, and the service was, well, it was there. Mostly. It's a dive bar next to a marina. If you are expecting a warm demi-glace with your perfectly seared tenderloin, you are going to be very disappointed. I came here for breakfast after my dad's recommendation, so this review is just for breakfast, and not the saloon part. I've heard that it is the only choice for breakfast on that part of the island. The name 'Ragged Ass' makes my dad laugh and he says it's a very popular spot, especially among bikers on the weekends. He likes to come and get drinks while listening to the live music. I decided to try it out with him for breakfast. Slow breakfast crowd on a week day with two servers working. One was extremely nice and cheerful, while one seemed like she did not like her job. We had the not so pleasant server and our service matched her attitude. We had to actually track her down to pay our bill, and that part right there took 10+ minutes. She never checked on us and we almost felt like inconveniences. I completely understand slow island time service when a place is busy, but there were maybe 6 tables between 2 servers. The food itself was good and it hit the spot. It's a typical breakfast menu. I especially loved the home fries. When dining outside, be safe and put up the umbrella! Birds love this area and a bird pooped right on where my dad was sitting, but luckily the umbrella saved him. It's a nice view of the water and there's plenty of outdoor seating. We were out riding Saint James, stopping in all the local stops. I had heard good things about Raggedass. On our first drive by it was dead, no cars so we planned on hitting it on the way out. We pulled in, still not a soul there. We walk up and the young chickie we assumed working the outside bar had her head down, face in her phone and didn't acknowledge us till I said, hey there.. where are all the people as we took two seat at the bar. She looked up laughed and walked inside...‍ We looked at each other, like um hello, what can I get you to drink? Need menus.... Sat there for a few minutes and nothing. So we got up and left. First visit, I'll be back. The atmosphere here is exactly what I like, lots of open air seating with seating right on the water. They let dogs sit with you outside. The food and drink are worth a trip to St. James City. The staff is friendly and the drinks are cold. If you like Tiki Bars, this place is worth a visit. read more

I've been to many a dive bar (don't judge) and as the Ragged Ass goes it's not bad. The issues is the parking and the seating. On most weekdays no problems. On a Saturday it can be an issue. Parking in the street area becomes necessary. As for seating apparently someone reserves seats because when we went to sit we were told those are reserved seats??? I've been here plenty of times is this a new policy? Reserved seating? I went inside to get service because no one came to take our order. We asked at bar and were told there were waitresses outside. She was very friendly and did take our order. Throughout our visit we had to continue to go inside as no waitstaff appeared. Band on this day was so/so they kept pausing to decide what to play. I have been here when they have had awesome bands. I'm just confused as to what is going on here ... hopefully just a bad visit. read more

You can tell by the pictures this is a "come as you are" place. There were people of all ages and dogs of every size. The menu has enough choices that there is something for everyone. We had the Southwestern Chicken Salad, that I would definitely order again, and he had the BLT on rye which looked amazing. It's a long ride so I ordered water (instead of a beer) and I got a bottled water for $1.50!! I just wanted a glass of water- but for that price, I should have ordered the beer. We were there on a Saturday, and it was starting to get crowded by 1:25 because the music starts at 2:00. read more

My fiancé and I went here for a quick breakfast. Service was wonderful and the vibe is very low-key. This is your typical type of diner food that is perfect to cure a hangover. I highly recommend going here as it's also a nice location where you could sit outside or inside. I regret not bringing our dog as we definitely could've brought her with us. I will say that we got strange looks because we are not from around the area. The people of Saint James said he can definitely tell when you are not a local. My fiancé got a huge breakfast and I just got an egg with an English muffin. The bill was only about $15 for the two of us and coffee and tea. Great price. read more

She wanted to know how she was supposed to find out who it was if we didn't know her name. She walked away leaving us to sit there. We finally got up and left. BUT, with the current Covid environment here in the country, I was appalled that the servers did not wear masks. Not a SINGLE other restaurant we visited in the last 5 days was maskless. We just spent over an hour waiting for our food. Watched 3 tables that came in after us order, eat their food, pay their checks and leave, while we waited. After 1/2 hour we asked our surly service person about our food and were told we would "have to wait our turn"? After an hour, and 3 tables leaving and still no food, we had the audacity to ask again, politely. Our service person's response was to lecture us in a loud, obnoxious voice in front of a restaurant full of people about how us "tourists" need to slow down and enjoy the weather and quit bothering her and wait our turn. We'll find another breakfast place rather than put up with that abuse. Management could do themselves a favor by taking this person off the front line. Obviously not cut out for the job. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will make sure to let friends and family know about this shoddy service. read more

Taco Tuesday has changed and it's not $5 for 3 tacos with a small cup of cole slaw, refried beans, salsa, and sour cream. Tuesday evenings also now has live music. Brings in a ton of people! Beer is still cheaper than soda and iced tea in this town. read more

We stopped in at around 5pm on a Monday. We ordered a pitcher of Yuengling, and their 'Special' medium pizza. The pitcher was the equivalent of about 3 1/2 of their beers by the glass, which made it a decent value. The pitcher also had an ice core, which kept the unpoured beer cold while we sat outside in the sun on the patio. The pizza came very quick, and was fairly good. There was a good volume of toppings on a very thin crust. The cheese was tasty and plentiful. For a dive bar, it more than met our expectations. read more

Stopped by for a snack and a beer- tried the sausage stuffed banana peppers. They were a tasty treat with a little spice, absolutely delicious! Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and attentive.
