Let me begin by saying this is my second time here my first time here there was a long black hair in my boyfriends Tonkotsu ramen, it was absolutely disgusting. Because like Tonkotsu we figured we'd give this joint a second go. This time I was told there was a wait. Then being made to wait over 15 minutes to just be seated at a table that was clear when we first arrived. Secondly I brought in a open redbull, I spoke to a manger and asked if I could hold onto it and that I won't drink it to honor the no outside beverages rule. I was told by the manager that because they'd Steve alcohol that they cannot allow opened outside beverages due to contamination issues but that they could take my opened drink into the kitchen and hold it until I'm done eating. Tell me how taking my beverage into the kitchen is less contaminating in comparison to me just having it next to me until I leave? I'd give a 0 Star if possible but unfortunately have to give then the 1 Star. NEVER EVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN. Such a shame. I just don't support ignorance. read more

Food is only part of what makes this a great restaurant. I was looking forward to this place for weeks and was excited to try it out. I didn't realize their business hours until I arrived (30 min before closing, I know, I know). They greeted us and took our name even though it was going to be a 15 minute wait. I started getting nervous because I really didn't want to have a bad experience and didn't want to be treated the way most restaurants would treat THAT PERSON. I was actually a tad disappointed after visiting region Ramen. There are several caveats to this review. I have been wanting to try out this place for a long time and seemingly every time I drive by it doesn't seem to be open. Finally after checking out the schedules the hours are actually quite limited: 5 to 10 PM only. I said aside a day to go and even at 8:30 to 9 PM there was at least a 30 to 45 minute wait. It was still very hot at this time, about 90 to 95° outside and despite that we were so hungry that one one of the outdoor tables opened up we opted to sit outside for hot Ramen in this 95° weather. Given that caveat, here is the review about the food. I got the spicy Ramen and I think it was actually a bad idea given that we were sitting outside without air-conditioning and I was so hot. The broth was rich but very salty and spicy. I don't mind spice but I do mine the amount of salt in the broth that makes it hard to eat very quickly. There was a decent amount of meats and proteins in the dish. My husband ordered the vegetarian option which I actually preferred over my spicy Ramen. The service was very good and very fast. I would love to try this place again and next time sit inside and will order the regular Tonkatsu Ramen. read more

If I have to be honest I don't even remember what I ordered here...possibly the tonkatsu? To say the least, I wasn't all that impressed and I was left unsatisfied...Literally went somewhere else with my best friend and got noodles elsewhere because this didn't really hit the spot. Maybe I had a one off day but my friend echoed my opinions in regards to the lack of satisfaction. The customer service was good though. I just personally think that if I'm craving ramen, this wouldn't be the first place on my mind. That being said, I would give it a second, even third, chance, because you know what they say: third times the charm. I love this place, the best seaweed salad and pot stickers to die for. If I get something else, it is the Veggie Ramen soup. I had that yesterday and was so disappointed to find that inflation has caught up with the ingredients: few vegetables and a ton of noodles. I would be happy with a smaller bowl and all the usual veggies, fewer noodles, same price. This is such a happy place to go for good food, good service. I recommend it highly. read more

The best Ramen in Tucson. I am strictly comparing it to the ramen in Tucson. The rating comes from a place of respect as having made Tonkatsu and ramen noodles, I understand first-hand, that this is a labor of love. I will never fault a ramen place for not making their own noodles, it is difficult and time consuming and I mean it when I say that. The Tonkatsu Red ramen was the best I've had in town. My only criticism was that there's a bunch of ground pepper near bottom of the bowl when finishing off the broth. The pork was tender and not dry. The broth is more flavorful compared to other establishments in Tucson. The best broth in Tucson. Noodles were cooked perfectly. The egg wasn't done properly, the yoke was cooked through, I will maintain Obon has the best eggs in town. Overall, I thought this was solid bowl of ramen, everything you would expect and flavorful. It is impressive that there sill remains a line outside of the door. One of things that kept them from a 5 star was their extremely unprofessional sign posted on their front door calling out a yelper who criticized their process for putting names on their list, yet there is still a line. This is probably the most tasteless thing I've seen a business do in Tucson in response to a yelper. It is rare for me to take a serious tone like this, but when I saw that photo it affected me a lot when writing this review. Maybe, when I return, this will change in an updated review. Anyways, to deal with the line get their early and plan accordingly. I tried going here last Friday. Went in at 8:40 p.m. It was full. They supposedly don't close until 9:00. As we were perusing the menu, some employee came up and shooed us out. Said repeatedly, "I'm sorry, we're closed." No explanation. (Out of food? No tables available?) Just kept waving her arms and shooing us out. Not too happy about that, They will never get my business, I guess. They are $3 more expensive than Ikkyu's ramen, anyway! So I went to K Japanese Restaurant and had some excellent tonkotsu ramen there. Was pleasantly surprised and very pleased. It was really delicious. The change resulted in the nonchalant servers who were non attentive to not only my table but everyone there. The place is crowded and that probably impacts the attitude of the servers. I think they need a larger location and additional parking. The food -- well I have had better Ramen but this was still very good. Ramen is all about the broth - I get it-- but a few more noodles and perhaps a spoon or two more veggies to fill the void would be welcomed. You will have to order a side of rice to do it yourself. I was really excited to try this new ramen spot after reading previous reviews. Sadly, it was just okay for me and I would give 3.5 stars. We got there right at 5pm when they open and did not make it in the first round of seating so ended up waiting 45 minutes. I understand that they are popular right now so I didn't mind the wait. It was fairly organized with the way they took your name down. The service was fine. They were busy so it was acceptable for how crowded it was. Pricing was a little high. It's what I expect to pay for good ramen in Hawaii, but not average ramen in Tucson. Anyway, I admit that I didn't order what is probably recommended. I got the chicken based broth. The ramen itself was pretty good, nice and chewy, but the sauce was not great. It was very bland and I had to add soy sauce to it. My boyfriend had the tonkotsu broth and he thought it was alright as well. Nothing too special. It's going to be dangerous to have ramen this tasty in my neighborhood. I was a little surprised to see such a long line out the door when I came in for the first time since it's not something you see often around Tucson. Luckily, the line moved pretty quickly and we had a table within 10-15 minutes of arriving. I would not suggest going in large groups on the weekend. As for the ramen, I think it's definitely in my top two favorites for Tucson. The spicy tonkotsu ramen was extremely flavorful and by far the best broth I have had in Tucson. They weren't my favorite noodles because they were a little to soft for my liking. I enjoy when they still have a little tender bite to them. The bowl was put together nicely with all of the right toppings and a generous portion of flavorful pork belly. Each bowl costs between $10-12, comparable to other restaurants in town. The experience of eating in the restaurant itself is nothing special, it has a pretty clean look and the staff do their jobs well overall. I wouldn't necessarily call this a "food experience" but just a nice, tasty bowl of food that can be served (and eaten) quickly. read more

I went to Raijin with a friend while visiting Tucson. Parking is not amazing, we parked pretty far down the street, so prepare yourself. We went early, so we were seated quickly, but the restaurant filled up fast! We had gyoza and I had the tonkotsu ramen with the black roasted garlic and spicy. The ramen was very good, my only complaint was I didn't like the pickled ginger in it, so I would get it without next time. The portions were large, so I had some leftovers. The prices are a little high, but not unreasonable. I think there are better ramen options in Phoenix, but, if you're in Tucson, this is definitely a great place to go. read more

First and foremost, the red spicy tonkotsu and spicy miso ramen were great. Broth was spicy and flavorful. I enjoyed the seamingly more alkaline curly noodles of the spicy miso over the straight noodles used in the tonkotsu bowl. The richness of the tonkotsu broth was notable compared to the miso ramen which is a good thing. The menma, egg, and chasu were all delicious as well. I ordered 2 of the drink specials from the chalk board. It was the Ozeno Yukidoke IPA (11.5oz bottle) and there was no price listed. The drink menu of the restaurant has other beers (bottled and draft) and none of them were over like $5-6. Anyways, got the bill for my 2 beers and it was $19.90! An expensive surprise that my bottled beer was the same price as my ramen!! I talked to the staff asking them if the price was a mistake and told them there was no price on the chalk board and their menu doesn't have any beers close to that price. They said, "Sorry that's what the price is, we should of told you, we will write the price on the board now, sorry." Some sort of compensation would have been nice (refund or half off on the beers). I looked up the price online and a 6 pack of this beer is $14.99... Anyways, disappointed in customer service but the ramen was good. read more

Definitely and without a doubt the best bowl of ramen you can find in Arizona. When I first arrived the staff was welcoming and cheerful and I was quickly seated upon entering the restaurant (don't feel bad about standing in line out front, it's worth it!). My server John was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and was able to make some awesome drink and appetizer suggestions. White peach Calpico and a plate of karaage make excellent partners with a bowl of their delicious noodles, and the sauce served with the gyoza was delightful. Now as far as the ramen itself is concerned I have a hard time even comparing it to anything else in the state. The noodles were firm and delicious, holding up to a hefty slurp carrying the delicious and well balanced broth with them. As far as their spicy broths are concerned they definitely pack a punch, but it's the kind of punch that makes you wanna get right back up and keep fighting that's for sure. The pork in my bowl of spicy tonkotsu ramen was unspeakably delicious as well, a real all star showing of ingredients in the bowl there. The best part about this place aside from the delicious food is that you really do get a sense of getting your money's worth here as well. For all the hard work that goes into a high quality bowl of noodles like this to give it to the public at a price point below $15 and also have the option of getting a whole second serving of delicious hot noodles (effectively doubling your portion) for only a few dollars more? Downright humanitarian. Raijin Ramen may well be one of my favorite new restaurants in Arizona, and is definitely worth checking out if you're in Tucson, or even making the trip every so often if you're in Phoenix like me. read more

I had been hearing a lot about this new spot in Tucson, I had been pre-warned that most of the time I will face a line to get in. I arrived at about 11am, and as warned there was a line to get in - I almost gave it a pass, but i'm extremely glad I waited. I was seated and served by super friendly staff, the menu was easy to understand and the food was absolutly incredible. I had the tonkotsu, with black roasted garlic, every drop was delicious (Sometimes with ramen you get bored of the broth when all the other stuff is gone - not here!). I also had a side of the gyoza which were equally delicious. I have had Ramen all over the country (and world), and I do not hesitate to say this is the best I've had. I suggest that the owner please join Yelp's online check in so customers can reserve online before driving there and wait in the cold for a long time. Overall, the place is good. The takoyaki balls were rather small for $5 which has 6 pieces, mostly flour and tiny piece of octopus. The bowl of ramen is medium. It is not very large. The food is served very fast but the wait is very long. But in comparison to other ramen places on Tucson, this place is the best so far. Out of most of the places that sell Ramen in Tucson, this is one of my favorites. Since it is still fairly new, expect long wait times for dinner. I've been to this location twice within a week. It is definitely busier on the weekends. If you want to try to beat the line/wait, try to come right at opening time for dinner. Because the space is relatively small, I don't advise coming here if you have a group larger than 4. It is ideal for parties of 2. There is a very small parking lot, but most people tend to park across the street in the small complex or street parking. I am impressed by how quickly they come over to your table and how often they come to fill water glasses. Don't linger too long, since it seems that they try to push you out once you've finished your food...since they are trying to seat people waiting because it's still a small space with limited seating. It has a very clean and simple restaurant layout, with 2 gender-neutral bathrooms tucked in the corner. You come here for the food, and not really for the ambiance. The ramen served at Raijin Ramen is very flavorful! I can't remark on the non-pork based broths, however. They give just the right amount of veggies to noodle ratio, in my opinion. The ramen comes out quickly, close to about 15 or so minutes once you put your order in. The broths aren't overly salty, and if you want to add some spice or white pepper, they have them at your table for your choosing. I've gotten the garlic and spicy tonkatsu ramens. The spicy ramen definitely had a kick in it for me, but I was still able to finish it. I'd say it's about a 3.5 out of 5 on a spice level. I really like that they don't add too many bamboo shoots to compensate for not having enough of the other vegetables, like other places do. I wish the egg was a little more runny, but that's based on personal preference and personal experience from eating ramen in Japan. If you withhold from downing all your broth, you can yell out "kae dama" and they'll come over with more noodles. I haven't seen it done, but you could try it! read more

Update: Had the Umami Shoyu which comes with thicker noodles. These noodles were delicious! Added a star because this fixed one of my issues. Been here a few times now all without very much of a wait and overall satisfied with the food. The Ramen is good and i hope the noodles are made in house fresh, but the noodles themselves dont have very much flavor or texture (very thin). I've tried three sides and the only side i like so far is the Takoyaki. The Chicken Kashu and the sliced marinade pork are nothing special. The Chicken Kashu pieces were small, flavorless, and mostly fat (not kidding). Like traditional Ramen shops they have the option of ordering a refill of noodles in your Ramen, but there is never enough broth to justify this. It could be better, and I hope they make improvements. read more
