    Check-in Barn
    Terri B.

We were in Sacramento the end of September to do the River Fox Railbikes, and the day was beautiful. We checked in down at the old fashioned little town area in the barn. At our reservation time, our guides gave a presentation and we walked up to the bikes where there were helmets for those who didn't have their own. We were given another presentation on how the bikes worked, we climbed on and the employees came around to adjust the seats if need be. We were off on the adventure. Others have said they had to pedal a lot as their batteries were dying, which happened to a few, but ours was just fine. We did pedal and occasionally used the assist. The scenery starts next to the river and then enters farmland were we saw fields filled with tomatoes, watermelon, and squash. The sunflower fields had already died off. Once you get going, the rail bikes all space out so you aren't on top of each other. You go out and then stop at the end of the tracks for the guides to turn the bikes around. You have time to take pictures and stretch your legs. Back on the rail bikes we had new views as we were seated on the opposite side. There were wild turkeys roaming about. We had a ball. The entire experience lasted about an hour and a half, and round trip is a little over 10 miles. Parking is easy, they have a dirt lot. Doing this as a couple is a fun date day experience, or with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday would be a blast too.

Since moving to Sacramento a few months ago, we've taken our friends and family to this three times! It's a great outing and in the scheme of rail bikes, on the more affordable side (but still pricey, no doubt!) the folks who work here are fun, and we've always had a great time with them. Sacramento is gorgeous and has different seasons so every time we've gone, it's been a different experience/view. I'd say fall and spring are definitely the nicest but the whole trip is fun enough even when not during those times. The trail takes you along the river and past farms, and you even get to be a train at some point (they do a whole train crossing and everything). They give you water and snacks (chips) which are nice to chomp on and then at the end you get to watch them turn around the bikes to bike on back. It's a great way to see the countryside and definitely worth it!! It's good for folks of all athletic ability since they're electric so you could not bike at all and that's fine as well. Pro tip: the left seat doesn't have to do any work to help the bike get going, so if you can't really do much athletics, do that seat!

Last month we rode their beer train. This month it was the rail bikes. The bikes were fun. Pedaling was not even needed as you could use the throttle the whole way. Only one set of pedals actually affected the speed. The view was of orchards and empty fields. The whole trip was about an hour and a half.

I was searching for fun activities that were out of the ordinary to do with my boyfriend and came across River Fox Train in Sacramento. We arrived half an hour early, as per instruction, to a train station that was cutely decorated with a fake saloon and a gift shop. The courtyard area had jumbo jenga and connect four as well as plenty of picnic benches. The outdoor courtyard was located directly next to a body of water and it was really a great view. Unfortunately, not everyone decided to follow the half hour rule and showed up pretty close to kick off time and we were required to wait on the rest of the reserved spots., thankfully they had great music playing on loud speakers and complimentary water which made the time fly by quickly. We were escorted up to the train tracks where the bikes were ready to go with helmets on each seat. The throttle and breaks of the bikes were explained to us and we tested them out to ensure they were in good working order. One of the handle bar cushions was missing and you had to be careful of hand placement because your fingers would get squeezed by the other persons handle when you were in motion. The resistance on our bike was flashing dead battery so where seemed to be no change in resistance. The ride is approximately ten miles long and it is not a loop. You get to your half way point and get off the bike and the guide will flip the bike around. All in all, it was beautiful scenery and it was a beautiful July day to go out and enjoy. This most likely be an experience I do every couple of years but it was very enjoyable. Tip: the driver ( the one positioned in the right hand seat) is not allowed to have their cell phone out, so make sure your passenger is the good photographer!

Had an amazing time. Decided to do this with a group of friends. We had an amazing time. We got a little lost getting there, but luckily for us they waited until we got there and it didn't throw off the schedule because we weren't the only ones running late so everyone got to do the tour, they give you snacks and water.

My companion had wanted to try for awhile so we finally arranged a time to come by. It is a two seater rail bike but does have an area to put your bags. The staff provide a 15 minute instruction plus another 10 minute check. The ride itself is around 30 minute each way plus a 10 minute to rotate the bike around midway. The bike can be peddled or electric whole way. It was pretty fun but not a lot of things to look at.

Worth noting: you are on long train with 3-4 different experiences and it seems you get different things depending on what you paid for. The my may have a tea, beer train, wine train, etc. We were in the back of the train and got the slowest service and stuck in a car with no AC. Ended up on the open air car and it was nicer. you might be better off paying for the base price; buy a drink or two and call it a day. Don't expect gourmet food here; bring a picnic and eat outside before/after your trip.

This made some of the undrinkable. Others were somewhat warm cloyingly sweet as to be unpleasant. Overall, though both of us are fans of boba tea- we would suggest a different vendor or more training for the staff preparing the samples. Roughly half of the flavors were not good at all. Additionally, they listed "boozy" flavors on the menu but never said anything about how to get those or whether they were included. Second problem- we preordered dumplings as did apparently a LOT of people. There were no dumplings on the train, only rice bowls. Furthermore- the waitress didn't know what we were talking about when we mentioned having preordered food. At least half of the tables in our car had preordered dumplings and were very disappointed. There was no information on how to obtain a refund if we didn't want the substitute of a rice bowl. About halfway through our trip, the train lost power which included lights, air conditioning, and the ability to flush toilets. Power stayed off with no explanation for more than 15 minutes, causing the car to become very warm and stuffy. Overall, this excursion suffered from lack of communication, lack of staff training, lack of preparation on the part of the organizers. Given the cost, I would not recommend this.

My sister and I decided to rent bikes with Napa Valley Bike Tours, and I am so glad that we did. Mackenzie, Kelly, and the other ladies we met upon arriving to the shop greeted us with so much enthusiasm and kindness! Before we even stepped foot into the shop, our bikes were already conveniently sitting outside the shop, ready to go. Everything is so well organized from the tools they provide (i.e. Storage bag on the bike, water bottle holder, bike map) to the instructions they give. Mackenzie gave us the run-down on which trails and Wineries we might want to visit during our ride which we appreciated greatly. The views and the vibes you get while biking on the scenic trail along Dry Creek Road are so worth it. I would highly recommend booking with NVBT as you will not regret it. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL!…read more We booked back at the end of July. This is our first time going with this business, usually we book with Sac Brew Bike. The night went pretty decent, I thought about booking with them in the future because their rules are pretty lenient... HOWEVER, after what I have encountered, I will NEVER EVER book with them again and I'll make sure anyone who asked me about brew bikes... I will share them my experience with THIS business. They care for making money off of you and then treat you like garbage right after. I understand a business is trying to get it's bag, but at least have some human decency. It's not like we treated the driver and the host bad at all--we offered them the alcohol that we brought with us and offered food that we ordered at one of the stops we made, left several boxes of alcohol for them at the end, and on top of that tipped very well. We wanted to make sure that everyone (including the employees) is having a good time because it's not the easiest thing to be in the heat, bike, and deal with people at times. I get that it's their job and they signed up for it, but it's just nice to see everyone around you having a good time. Let's proceed to what happened... shall we? As we started biking, the employee told us that we can leave our jacket on the hanger on the inside because there isn't one on the outside (where we are sitting). I proceed to do so, thinking nothing of it because I know it'll be safe there as we get on and off the bike. Arriving to our last destination, we all hopped off and a few minutes later... I realized that I have forgot my jacket on the bike. My friend who booked the bike called them immediately and they picked up-- informing my friend that they see the jacket AND that I can pick it up first thing in the morning. Fast forward to the morning. I drove down to the address listed on yelp...I pulled up and guess what? I couldn't find the building for "Off the Chain Bike Bus Tour." I thought I was at the wrong location... I had to second guess myself and walked back and forth to see if I have missed the building. Keep in mind, I know downtown sac like the back of my hand-- I go out extremely often and even work in dt. It led me to the address of a restaurant that has been shut down and chained up. It didn't felt right. I got confused... so I called up the number. The owner picked up, he informed me that they are only out there if someone books with them and the next time he is out here, he will check or have his guys check the bike. I left it at that and followed up more towards the end of the week. Here is where the math ain't mathing... So, how come the staff said that they saw the jacket and that I can pick it up the next morning? When there isn't even a location for this business (I forgive about there not being a location). However, it doesn't make sense... if they were to store the bikes away and come out for the next customer, wouldn't the jacket still be on the bike? Unless... one of the staff took it and the owner is covering them. As you may wonder... what type of jacket is this? why would someone steal a jacket? It's a ZARA jacket... so, I guess it's worth having sticky fingers over. I followed up again today. The owner picked up and I asked about my jacket. He came at me rude... saying "You called us 3-4 times. There is nothing we can do." Sounds super defensive to me; you know people don't act defensive for no reason. The response is super ignorant as a business owner. I informed him how unprofessional it was for his staff to provide misinformation and how it played out in general. He said "there is miscommunication," and that's it. Like that's all he can say to me as a customer? OH OKAY. I understand people lose stuff all the time. I wouldn't be upset if I placed it at a bar and then accidentally forgot about my jacket. However, I was informed that they see the jacket AND that I can pick it up the next morning... but when I try to pick up the jacket, my jacket is no where to be found. It makes no sense at all...

He was an excellent driver on the windy mountain roads, which we really appreciated! I tend to get sick on those roads, but he was the best driver I have seen under those conditions. He also had a Honda pilot which I think handles curves well. He also mentioned he has a large passenger van for bigger tours as well. I won't go into the full detail of the whole trip, because I would be writing a while, but you can imagine the awesome sights, with a great tour guide, and a perfectly packed lunch and snacks for an affordable price. It was so nice to not have to drive and figure out where we were going. He also had a pass to Muir woods so our $5 admission was covered.
