The last time I stayed at the Delta King was 26 years ago, when my daughters were 5 and 7 years old. We had a great experience then and I just had another great experience. During my recent visit I arrived on a very hot summer day (101° F) and was very happy there was valet parking so that I didn't have to walk a long distance with my luggage in the heat. The hotel check in was fast and efficient. When I got to my room I was pleased to find that it was air conditioned and there was an additional fan to keep the air moving around. My room was on the dockside and was small, but I was staying by myself and it worked out just fine. Also, as a reminder this is a boat and the staterooms are traditionally small. There were no chairs in the room, only the bed, two small nightstands and an armoire. There is a TV and small coffeemaker in the armoire. When I stayed with my daughters we had a room with two beds, so the room was larger. The bathroom has an old fashioned flush toilet and when my four year old grandson visited, he loved that he got to flush the toilet and reminds me how much he enjoyed doing that. I love soft bedding with a high thread count, but I was unfortunately not treated to that here. I did sleep okay without it. Again as a reminder that I was on a boat, the room was at a slant so the bathroom door and the armoire doors would sway open unless they were tightly closed. Also for people with vertigo or who get dizzy easily, the slant might be problematic. In the morning I had a delicious omelette with country potatoes in the Pilothouse Restaurant. While eating breakfast there was a seal swimming alongside the riverboat, which was fun to watch. Besides the Pilothouse and the Delta Bar and Grill onboard, there are many restaurants, shops, riverboat rides, and a train museum within a short walking distance. Also, if you want to Uber somewhere else in Sacramento, there is a roundabout in front where you can get picked up and dropped off. I will definitely stay here again in the future. read more

First time coming to Pilothouse at the Delta King! I stopped by for the Sunset Sips experience and stayed for an early dinner. I made a reservation; however, the happy hour deals are exclusive to the bar. I didn't mind moving since the dining room was empty. You could hear a pin drop, and I just didn't feel comfortable in there. Once we moved to the bar at the next level, it was a more lively atmosphere, but not obnoxious. Staff were attentive, and we started with drinks, apps, and we both ordered salads as our entrees. I honestly felt hesitant about the food from all the negative reviews, but went out on a whim for the happy hour deal. Cesar salad was $11 instead of $17, which feels steep for what it is. Highlights for our table included the lavender matcha martini and loaded fries. We also enjoyed our Cesar salads - one order with chicken and the other with salmon. Salmon fillet was a generous portion size and came with crispy skin! I'd skip on the mushroom toast, as it was nothing spectacular. It took some time to close out, and we had an issue with our bill. We were overcharged for the Cesar salads, which reflected dinner pricing. We brought this issue to the bartender, and she was very polite and helpful in adjusting our bill. It Yelp would have allowed it would have given them 3.5 stars. My recommendation is to know ahead ahead of time what you are getting into. The boat is very cool and I would definitely sit outside so you can enjoy the view of the river as well as the breeze on a nice day. I found it to be very relaxing and would go again. The Service- Friendly. The Food- This is where the wheels started to come off the bus. New England Clam Chowder- Was okay but I would get something else next time. Fish and Chips- The breading they use on the fish made it kind of doughy. I would not get this again. French Dip- Once you dipped it it was so salty that you could not eat it. Spent our anniversary here and location-wise, absolutely no complaints. Valet parking made it convenient and it is centrally located, easy to walk around before or after dinner. Restaurant itself was not bad. A little bit pricey for the food and kind of usual dining experience. We went upstairs for some drinks but it seems like the bar closes early and they really did not have any more drinks aside from wine. This is a pretty cool experience and has great views. The first two things I tried were the shrimp scampi and the clam chowder. Both were very delicious. For dinner I had the Frisee salad and I will have to say the lardons in this salad are a bit over powering when paired with the vinaigrette. We came here this past Sunday after we became parched from all the walking we've been doing. A lot of people were eating lunch when we arrived. Most of the tables outside were taken so we sat inside. I love sitting outside it's so serene. They have a TV in their upstairs bar, but they didn't have the game on, the 49ers were playing. If they had the game on we would have stayed longer. Another couple at the bar were excited for the game being put on when we asked if they got the game, but no on actually put it on. Either way it's a nice place to grab a drink. It's so calming and peaceful being on the Delta King. You have a lovely view of the riverbanks and you're away from the crowds. They also have a women's bathroom upstairs that has two stalls. It's bigger then it looks on the outside. It's to the right of the staircase if you're going down. It's clearly marked. I believe they have a second restroom downstairs for the dining room guests. I ordered a root beer and was surprised on how small a glass it was in. They may have had free refills, but I didn't ask. read more

Stayed overnight December 17th at the Delta King at the waterfront in old Sacramento. Because I joined the Captains Club at the beginning of the year I earned a complimentary night! It's so fun here...we literally can walk to everything! Pilot House upstairs is great for a more casual lunch with cocktails. Indoor and outside seating. I feel SAFE at night because it is well lit with shops and restaurants to walk to. Family friendly! The beautiful 60 foot Christmas tree is right in front of the Delta King! So I've decided to do one thing off my bucket list each year. One of the these has been to stay overnight on the Delta King for the 4th of July and watch the fireworks. The view of the fireworks was amazing! You could hear cheers from the Oakland A's vs. Giants game as well. I booked the room a few months in advance. This is key as I found out that the same room was going for almost $700 a day before the 4th. I paid $245 before taxes which seemed a bit extravagant for me. Highly recommend the 3rd floor as you get less foot traffic and it feels more private. Parking is valet for $30. We ended up parking at the Amtrak parking lot which allows you to do overnight with the app, it was about half the price but you do end up walking a few blocks. Fortunately the night that we were there was on the cooler side and the delta breeze was cool and strong. We even had to get out the spare blanket! The rooms are surprisingly quiet and the bathroom is quite spacious however the windows don't open. I found the AC to be lacking in terms of temperature and strength so I ended up keeping the door open and using the fan which was provided. The coffee maker in the room tastes horrible but there are plenty of cafes and spots for breakfast within walking distance. You do get two complimentary drinks from the bar with vouchers upon check in - wine, beer, soft drink. The fun part was talking to the other hotel guests! So many people make this a tradition. When folks asked where I was from, I had to sheepishly reply "Sacramento." For dinner, I did DoorDash. They delivered to the lobby and we got a call from the front desk when it arrived. Sitting outside on the patio with a river view and seeing all the boaters was fantastic. Highly recommend! read more

I was recently on the Delta King with a large group from a conference and was there for the Murder Mystery event. It was my first time, and the experience was confusing at first but fun. (I wasn't sure what the expect) The actors really stayed in character and put on a great performance. I had small bites and hors d'oeuvres were served, and we had access to both the first floor of the boat and the outside dock area, which was a nice even the weather was beautiful that evening. The Delta King definitely has old charm, but could use a deep cleaning to freshen things up. With a lot of people on board, it did get stuffy. Overall, a fun and entertaining experience if you're interested in the Murder Mystery event! read more

I wanted to say, you can't; you can't give me back these 35 minutes, but I chose not to say anything. The location is stellar. It's in the heart of Old Sac right on the river. There is a parking garage + lots nearby. Also, there is street parking available. The boat itself is rustic yet slightly renovated and modern. There is a large bar onboard with a restaurant. The deck outside is very nice and has tables to sit at. On a nice evening, the views cannot be beat. The sunset hitting the water is one of the most memorable experiences you will have. The food and drinks were pretty good. I have really struggled to write this review. We stayed here last week for 2 nights in the Captains Quarters. For parking you can either park in one of the 2 parking garages (will have to walk a few blocks with your luggage) or valet park. Right in front of the hotel is the valet parking and Timothy was very friendly. It is $30 a night but you do have in and out privileges. Apple and her staff run the hotel and they are all very helpful and friendly. Check in was easy and quick. They have ice and some drinks for sale available at the front desk and someone is there 24/7. We were on the 5th floor and walked up the stairs, however they do have an elevator in the lobby. The Captains Suite is a larger room with a private balcony. Of course this is an older ship and although the other rooms have been updated, the captains suite has not, it remains as original as can be. The biggest issue is the shower. This is really an old fashioned bath tub converted to add a shower head, however to get in you have to step up and over the tub which is about 2 1/2 feet tall. This may not seem hard but in reality it was difficult. There is not much to hold on to so getting in and out was a struggle and very uncomfortable. Once inside, the shower head does not actually work, you have to use the hand held one which makes it hard to wash your hair with one hand. It is also very small and there is no place to put any bottles of shampoo or soap. Overall this was a very bad experience. In addition, the toilet is still the old fashioned pull handle from the ceiling mounted tank. It is very loud and does not flush with 1 pull, you have to flush twice. There are a lot of windows in the second story, where the ships wheel is) however they have no curtains, so the room never really gets dark and in the morning there is a lot of light coming in early. The bed was smaller than a queen and very uncomfortable. You can only see the TV from bed, not from the chairs in the sitting room. The room is also very slanted so you are either walking up or down hill to move about the room. There is a drip coffee pot but no microwave or fridge. Anyone from the street can walk around the ship as there is nothing preventing them from entering the area, like locked doors. We saw 4 people who walked on from the street and were sightseeing around the ship. They can come to your windows and doors. I did not really feel safe at night after seeing this. If there is anything happening on the main street (we had a marathon and a latin dance festival) it is very loud. In our case the marathon people started setting up at 5:30 in the morning on Saturday and the music from the dance festival went on until about 10 pm. It is nice to be able to stay so close and just walk around Old Town without having to drive or park if you are just there to hang out. read more

First of all, valet service was excellent -- fast, friendly, and easy. We arrived at the check-in counter on 10/25 and were greeted by one of the least friendly front desk employees I've ever encountered. Oddly enough, the housekeeper nearby was the one who said "welcome," not the front desk staff. The employee who checked us in seemed completely uninterested and unhappy to be there, which really set a disappointing tone for our arrival. We stayed on the river side, where they provide earplugs because of the sea lions across the river. They are loud but didn't bother us at all. The room itself was clean and typical for the Delta King--nothing fancy, but comfortable. We also attended the Murder Mystery Dinner. It was fun, interactive, and the actors did a great job with the storyline, though a few parts felt a bit rushed. Dinner service started around 7:00. The salad was okay, though the lettuce pieces could have been cut smaller. I ordered the steak but wish I'd chosen the chicken--it looked much better. The steak was just okay; the mashed potatoes and vegetables were disappointing. Dessert was a simple chocolate pudding. Overall, the experience would have been more enjoyable if our tablemates had been more engaged. Only two others participated in the fun, and most of the table left before the show even ended--which was strange. Why come to a murder mystery dinner if you're not going to join in? read more

I came here hoping for a cute waterfront dinner moment with my boyfriend and my 4-year-old... and somehow ended up on an episode of "figure it out yourself." We got there early for our reservation (like they ask), but stood at the front for a solid 5 minutes being completely ignored while servers walked by us like we were invisible. I finally had to ask if we were supposed to seat ourselves or just... exist there. We chose to sit outside for the vibe--which was honestly the best part of the night. We got water, ordered pretty quickly, and then waited over 20 minutes for our food... just for it to come out cold and bland. Like no seasoning, no love, just vibes. My boyfriend got Cajun pasta (heavy on the "where's the Cajun?"), I got a steak pasta that tasted like it gave up halfway through, and my son got chicken quesadillas that he...being a 4-year-old....refused to eat. I mean the fries were coo??? That alone should tell you everything. We even moved inside just to be more comfortable eating, and still nobody checked on us. Our waiter seemed to be in a committed relationship with the bar and only visited our table for special occasions. When he finally came over (after we were basically done), I told him the food wasn't great and asked for a box and the check. No apology, no reaction... just "I'll be back." Spoiler: he was not back. After another 15-20 minutes, I got up, found the to-go boxes myself like I worked there, packed my son's untouched food, paid, and left. $100 later... for small portions, cold bland food, and service that required a scavenger hunt. Friendly staff and cool vibe but the stay was a one and done for me. Midges by the dozen in the room. Super challenging to feel comfortable staying here with so many bugs on the walls and ceilings. It's my understanding they're harmless but it's a unsightly and unwelcoming feeling having them all over. The Mattress also was extremely thin where you could legitimately feel the box spring under it. I wouldn't stay here again if visiting the area again. In the shadow of the Tower Bridge, accompanied by the sounds of sea lions and many small birds, is a charming period place to stay. If you like wainscoting and highlights of brass and tile, the historic floating hotel will be right up your alley. All the amenities of Old Town are steps away, and there is a full restaurant and a bar / grill aboard ship for later evening eats. The service staff were friendly and knowledgeable and made checking in effortless. Use the valet parking instead of risking getting parking tickets from the city. The only item of which to be aware is the Wi-Fi throughput is incredibly uneven around the ship. I had to use a mobile Wi-Fi strength / throughput detector app to get usable bandwidth. So far, I rented two rooms and made a dinner reservation for four for 5:30, it'snow 5:45. There are four staff running around and no one asking why we are standing at the entrance. Yes, of course the old boat is great. I happen to live on a sailboat and travel, so sure it's a cool old boat, but it only gets a customer so far. The STAFF is what will make or break a trip and the stuff plain and simply sucked. They weren't interested in helping customers, they appeared to be inadequately trained, if AT ALL. read more

Came for new years eve dinner. Fantastic service and delicious food. I loved that the waiter came by a few times to ensure the food was as we liked it. The prime rib the first time was medium and my buddy wanted it medium rare. They came back with a new plate exactly as ordered. We loved that the waiter was extremely kind and attentive. We also got both lava cake and cheese cake. I believe they were only ok. Its always fun to see the lava on the chocolate cake but that didn't happen. No biggie - still delicious. There was also a roaring 20s event on the boat where you could dance and play casino. Complimentary 500 monopoly bill to play tables and win raffles. Syper fun. Loved it! Staying here felt like I stepped back in time. The room is very cute and small yet it was very comfortable and the bathroom was much bigger than one would expect and very clean, plenty of hot water and the pressure was great. And the bed was comfortable too. So cute that they provided earplugs on the nightstands but it was pretty quiet and didn't need them. We were given complimentary drinks which was a very sweet welcome and of course, we headed to the bar/dining area to enjoy a glass to start off our evening. I had a glass of Riesling that I enjoyed. This is a must stay for the experience. You are staying on an old ship in old town Sacramento. You are going back in time when everything was smaller and simpler like small doorways and toilets that flush from above by pulling a chain. We had a view of the water and were walking distance to the A's stadium which was fun. They gave us drink vouchers and I believe they even have a murder mystery improv show! I came with my husband on a Sunday. For being non locals sometimes its hard to know where to go and what the times are for dinner and lunch. You go up the steam boat which is very cool to me and the view of the water and the Ziggurat building in the back. If you sit outside on the deck you can see all this and the sunset behind the famous yellow Sacramento bridge. On this day we even saw sea lions lounging and one swimming around. It was January so it's cold and breezy, so make sure you dress accordingly . Our waitress was funny but it took a long time to get service. Inside the little bar area was full and so we had to go outside. We found out no actual meal until 5pm only apps and drinks. The drinks honestly were ok as well as the appetizers so that made us decide to go elsewhere for dinner. Its a touristy spot with its charm just not great food or drinks. Service is slow. A historic 100 year old ferry boat has been totally renovated from salvage. It was clean, beautifully restored with great food, nice views of the Sacramento River. Quiet, except for barking sea lions lollygagging on a dock across the river. We were pleasantly amused by the squabbling sea lions, but earplugs are provided if the barking bothers you. The desk staff was very helpful with secure parking and storing baggage. Overall, an unexpectedly wonderful retreat. The location is in Old Sacramento. Some shiftless homeless beggers were hanging out on the quay. Therefore, for safety, we emptied the car of everything. read more
