I scheduled a tour with Rainbow Daycare. I had a set time and date. I arrived on time yet no one was at the front office. Rang the door bell but no one assisted me. I had to wait with my child in the lobby for 30 mins. I even called numerous times. My thought was "What if there was ever an emergency and no one is in the front office and without picking up the phone?!" Anyways, after having to reach out by email, they finally came to the front door. I was already filling off about the place but was hopefull. They gave me a quick walk through and led me to another room for the age group of my child. Once I walked in I greeted the staff/director. When I glanced over again, I seen her kiss an infant on their cheek and forehead! That for me was inappropriate. I wouldn't want anyone kissing my child. Let alone an infant. It was clear to me that I wouldn't being enrolling my child there. I would not recommend. read more

Under the new management (Ms. Sharon) and current set of teachers, the daycare has improved significantly. I have a 4.5 year old (at this daycare for 3 years) and 1.5 year old (at this daycare for 1+ year), and this is the best it's been. The current set of teachers are wonderful. They are easily the best thing about this place. They also all work well together which creates a great environment for the kids. With the new leadership & management, along with the current teachers, I would definitely recommend Rainbow Daycare to other families. read more

We have a child that is in the preschool and another that will be attending in the fall. We love rainbow and the staff. They've always been kind and welcoming to our family and child. Our child has a speech delay and the teachers at rainbow have only helped encourage her through play and friendships to find her voice. It feels like every day she comes home she's saying something new or showing us something fun she's done in class. The teachers and new director keep lines of communication open and are always telling us about her day, what we can do at home to practice and sharing fun photos of her. A lot of staffing has changed since we first started and only for the better. A lot of the negative reviews are from previous staffing issues. Yes, we were enrolled during those times and we've seen such an amazing improvement with the new director. She wants Rainbow to thrive and it shows. She really does care about Rainbow, the staff, the children and the families. read more

I have a 5 year old and 2 year old currently enrolled in Rainbow, and plan to enroll my newborn later this year. My first child enrolled in 2019, so we have seen quite a few changes at the center over the last 5 years. The current staff and management are fantastic - my children are happy to go to "school", and I feel that I and my children have great relationships with the staff and the new director, Ms. Sharon. Further, I am pleased with the policy changes and staff updates that the center has undergone since late last year, and the increase in leadership from the parent board. From updated curriculum to colorful new classrooms, our family feels that Rainbow is a truly welcoming and nurturing environment, and we are happy to bring our children here every day. read more

I strongly encourage you to find another daycare facility. Trust and integrity are essential characteristics that you should expect from the relationship between yourself and those responsible with watching your children; unfortunately, I can have no trust in Rainbow Daycare as they've shown and extreme lack of integrity. From lost tuition payments (over $1,500) to broken promises and attempted shakedowns.  My experience with Rainbow Daycare has been truly nightmarish. We were so fortunate to find a new daycare on short notice.  I understand that options are limited and Daycare facilities feel that they hold all the cards (and with year long wait-list, they probably do) but I strongly strongly strongly caution against sending your children here unless it's your last resort. read more

Our eldest child started at Rainbow Day Care in the Spring of 2021 and is currently enrolled in Pre-K while our youngest child started in the Winter of 2023 and is in the Yellow Class (young toddlers). The Center has undergone a number of good transitions both in terms of staffing and policy that have immensely improved the educational experience of the children and relationships with the parent/caregiver community. The Staff genuinely love and care for each child and their development. Every effort is made to make sure that parents/caregivers are involved and kept in the loop. As some other reviewers have mentioned, what sets Rainbow apart is the fact that it's a parent co-op and the Director of the Center works closely with a parent Board of Advisors (many of whom have children that currently attend or have attended Rainbow). We feel fortunate to have found Rainbow during the height of the pandemic and even more so now as we continue to see only positive improvements. The Staff and parent/caregiver community is welcoming and inclusive ad most of all, we know that our children and happy and well taken care of by the staff and teachers. We would happily recommend Rainbow to anyone looking for childcare. read more

Seems like there are some internal struggles with management and the board. On the hand there are a few people that work there who are amazing with the infants and toddlers, they work very hard, but don't get the recognition they deserve. They were the reason why we stayed the time we could. The facility is in a great location, is maintained well, and has a positive atmosphere. We have two children who are attending Rainbow Daycare, one in the infant class and one in preschool. We love the teachers and the school community that Rainbow has to offer, our kids are thriving and learning so much. There has been a lot of transition in the last year (for the good) and the center has parted ways with directors and staff in an effort to improve the quality of care and education our littles receive. Additionally, there is a very active and involved parent board of directors who are committed to making Rainbow the best place that it can be in partnership with the Rainbow staff. ***UPDATE AS OF 8/29/19. In response to Rainbow daycares comment: As a foster mother I am a mandated reporter as well. I know the rules. Rainbow daycare, you did not even acknowledge my sons injury until after I brought this injury to YOUR attention because my son said he recd this burn in the kitchen at your day care. My sons doctor stated his burn was from hot water or hot oil. After I showed you his burn, Dominique, you then reported ME for burning my son with a cigarette. This is a complete lie on your part as no one in my family smokes and my sons dr confirmed this was a burn from oil or boiling water not a cigarette. You reported me to my sons social worker risking my son being taken away from me (as he is still technically foster child I am trying to adopt) and this also opened an investigation into weather or not I abused my son! All so you Dominique could avoid an investigation into your very dangerous day care. (Your track record proceeds you. I've added pictures of where you can find this day cares investigations per Sacramento public information website per licensing.) end of update.*** Friday I picked my child up and he showed me a booboo he said he got while at school. Monday I brought it up to the schools attention and two days later they reported me to my sons (whom I'm trying to adopt from the foster care system) social worker claiming my son received this booboo from me. They claimed to his social worker I've given my son cigarette burns. Such an outrageous claim since I do not smoke nor does my sons father... This is clear retaliation against me for voicing a concern of mine and how my son stated he got a booboo while at school. Now my son whom I've had for almost three years since he was 13 days old can and may be taken away from me unless I can prove how he got this burn on his hand. His social workers stated his dr hopefully can confirm it is not a cigarette burn. Ok... I believe in open communication and transparency but apparently as a parent wanting to communicate a concern with their child's school comes with consequences such as this consequence my family and I are now facing. The fact that the school almost immediately reported me for a booboo I told them that my son said he got while in their care is extremely concerning and obvious retaliation. Am I not allowed to voice a concern with them in fear of having my son taken from me because they want to point the finger away from themselves for any issues they may be trying to cover up? My sons social worker could not confirm or deny who made the complaint legally; but the only person who I talked to about his booboo was the school and my sons father. Then just a few days after I communicate this booboo to the school some one reports me for burning my child with cigarettes. (Again no one at all in or around our family smokes). I have been a licensed foster mother with Sacramento for 3.5 years and I have not once received a complaint. This is the reason so many people are terrified of becoming foster parents because of people and schools like this place. So what will happen now that I have written this review? What kind of backlash or repercussions will come out of this negative review? Any advice from fellow parents especially foster parents is greatly appreciated as I have never faced a complaint and I am now under investigation. read more

I am out visiting daycares in the downtown mid town area this week. I am looking for a place for my infant and preschool children. I visited before the pandemic and see some changes. The carpeting has been replaced, which is a huge improvement for the children. The prices for care are very affordable. The Director is was the only reason we did not yet enroll. The site states she has an advanced degree in Early Childhood Education however, she was not able to answer most of our questions. I am going to put this one on the revisit list. read more

My son started at Rainbow in January and I could not be more happy with with our experience there. I was really anxious to start him in daycare because he was 18 months and had never been in daycare and, like a lot of children born during Covid, had very little exposure to other children. Additionally, he has never been away from me or his dad. But since he has started, my son has hit so many major milestones in such a short period of time. The staff at Rainbow are amazing. They are caring and communicative and creative. The atmosphere feels supportive and safe but relaxed in a way that definitely aligns with my parenting style. My son is so clearly happy there and it makes me as happy to drop him off in the morning as it does to pick him up at the end of the day because I know he will be having fun and will be surrounded by staff and teachers that he and I both really like. i have 2 children, the first one is now 7 and in the 2nd grade, but in the beginning we had a difficult time finding a daycare we felt comfortable with until we found rainbow. since my first was 2 and a half, he went to rainbow, he acclimated to kinder after graduating from the pre k class. my younger one is still there, he has been there since he was 4 month old and is now in pre k. i have been on the parent board for 6 years now and i love this place. i recommend it to everyone who asks and i think the teachers are wonderful. trusting people to care for your child is a scary proposition, but rainbow is great! read more

My daughter is enrolled here in the "Blue Class" under Misses Jenny and Jessica. This is the Pre-K class; although Rainbow Daycare has full time daycare, they also have preschool components. Preschool covers numbers, letters, some science, and lots of art. The kids really get to explore and pretend and be part of the school. There is also an infant-toddler room, a class for the 2 y.o. children, and the class for the 3 y.o. children. There is seamless transition, and all of the children have a chance to interact and play with each other. This is an amazing experience for my daughter, who is an only child. We love Rainbow Daycare. The parents are required to complete participation hours, which is fun. The school is well-managed and small enough to accomodate special requests personally. I also really like the snacks. We loved our previous daycare (it closed down), but the biggest beef I had with them were the snacks and meals, and then they cut their lunch program. My kid always brought the most ridiculously healthy brown bag lunches. At Rainbow? I don't even worry! Their meals include veggies and fruit, whole grains, and they've even had families bring special items to share with others (we brought a pile of seaweed rice crackers and edamame.) I also truly appreciate the diversity in staff ethnic make up and culture. It brings different traditions together and helps kids explore other cultural elements as well as helping children feel "part of something" because they are so open and welcoming, and because "different" is the norm. I love it!! I will be sad when we leave to have her attend kindergarten, but I know that with the care and teaching at her school now, she will be quite prepared for what is to come in her future. Also, Rainbow Day Care is very flexible for scheduling. We pay $660 for 4 days a week for one child (we are furloughing state workers with most Fridays off.) We find this affordable, though it's more than what we paid before for full time. It's also closer to our offices, which means we all commute to and from downtown together! read more

My daughter has been enrolled in the infant/toddler class for just about a year now. Going back to work after having a child, whether part-time or full-time, can be a difficult change. Luckily there are wonderful places like Rainbow to ease that transition. I used to work as a caregiver for children and I'm delighted to see in the caregivers at Rainbow everything that I could desire from a daycare center. They are warm, caring, fun, and energetic. I have complete confidence in the care she receives. At the end of the day I often catch my daughter sitting on the lap of her primary caregiver and I know she's happy and well looked after. It means a lot to me to know that she is confident and happy while I'm working all day. The children are each allowed to follow their own nap schedules, which is something that for the littlest kids is very important as some nap longer/shorter amounts of time than others and more/less frequently. At the end of the day, my daughter always comes home full of energy and she's never cranky or over-tired, which makes putting her to bed in the evening a piece of cake! My daughter is still in diapers, like many 1.5 year olds, and I've never had a single issue with any kind of diaper rash whatsoever. At the end of each day Rainbow gives you a daily report for your child that talks about what they ate/drank, when they napped, and how many times throughout the day their diaper was changed. I find that Rainbow changes her diaper about the same number of times in a day that I do on a typical weekend day. This reassures me that they are on top of every child's needs in every way. The report is really helpful, too, in predicting about when her bedtime will be (based on her naps) and in predicting how hungry (or not) she might be for dinner that night. I love it! Rainbow's caregivers do so many engaging activities with the kids - a lot of drawing, coloring, stickers, painting, sandbox, bubbles, music days, field trips, costumes, toys, books (and more books!), room to run/climb/jump/play, you name it! So many of the activities they do with the kids are specifically geared to build a foundation for learning. They learn gross motor skills, work on developing their fine motor skills, and even have weekly/monthly learning topics. Also, on Fridays they have different 'spirit days', where they can dress up, do their hair crazy, bring a special book/toy, etc. My favorite spirit day is pajama day, of course! Rainbow is also really great about accommodating different dietary needs of children. For the longest time my daughter couldn't eat any dairy or meat and it was a complete non-issue for them, which was a relief because sometimes people make a big deal about that kind of thing (for example grandma and grandpa!). Occasionally babies will injure themselves. It happens. Occasionally a baby-friend will injure another baby friend. Totally normal! Rainbow is really great about letting you know if there was any type of 'incident' during the day. For example one day my daughter thought sticking her finger in her baby-friend's face would be fun. And her baby-friend thought biting her finger would be fun. By the time I picked up my daughter there was no mark on her and she was in totally great spirits, but Rainbow still provided me a report of the incident, when it happened, and how they treated it. When I get the occasional report I don't even feel compelled to read it because by now I have complete faith in them. Oh! And twice a year the kids get their "school picture" taken - which may sound silly but I just love it! I have never taken my daughter in to a department store for a professional photo so it's nice that Rainbow has this for the kids. They even get a class photo, too! read more

My son attended this school for about 1.5 years. After having him in two prior day care centers (one was extremely expensive, and the other had staff that weren't a good fit), I took a tour of Rainbow Day Care Center. Immediately, Ms. Dominique and the office staff were very warm and welcoming, took their time in giving the tour, and answered all my questions. The lobby and classrooms were clean, organized, and were well prepared as a leaning environment. Ms. DeeDee was my son's teacher for almost the whole time he was there. Originally she was temping for the prior teacher, but after a staff change she became his class' permanent teacher. From day one, she was kind, patient, and prepared the students emotionally and academically for kindergarten. Her transition from substitute to permanent teacher definitely went without a hitch! All in all, I think one of the biggest areas of stress as a parent is feeling confident in the child care that you leave your little one with. I had and have the upmost confidence in Rainbow and am very thankful that my son attended. Rainbow is proof that high-quality, affordable child care exists. It is 100% a daycare center, minus a structured learning environment. Sure, the parents, and the home life should be highly influential in the development of a child, but when a child is being kept 8-10 hours a day, the place they are primarily kept at will supersede in setting the standards. The daycare, and their staff ARE A HUGE part of the child's community. The kids are kind of free to do whatever they want, while the staff almost treats the kids like they're tiny co-workers. The things the daycare allows behaviorally are not allowed at a regular school, which ill-equips the child, and works a hardship on the child who is not used to a structured environment, going into a place with expectations, but it's really hard to expect structure when the staff is not structured. They fail to properly communicate with one another. They fail to keep their website up to date. Last I looked, the menu to allow you to see the daily meals was updated May 2019... They've updated the website since then, but it is still lacking a lot. The staff members are here today, gone tomorrow. They rarely stay a full year. They get a new director every 2 years. One of my favorite (sarcasm) memories from 2019 will be from when my child came home, and kept telling me that a teacher pointed out that there was now another child of color, who was the same gender, who told my child "There is someone like you now"... The "teacher" was Caucasian, and very much out of line, out of touch with what's real, and shouldn't be around kids if that's her first mindset. She has coworkers who are the same color as my child, too, so I didn't understand why we are comparing, and contrasting skin tones, and genders, besides you're not a smart educator by a longshot. She's too young to be color-struck, in CA. Some of the previous teachers that departed the daycare voiced to my family that it's because of the (lack of quality) leadership, which I have to believe them, having heard it more than once, from people working at different times. Also, what daycare doesn't provide daily updates about your child's day? There are even apps for them to do so. One teacher will say "Your child took a nap today." On the way out, another teacher will say "Oh, we didn't take a nap today, but we rested..." so you never know what happened with your child, while you were out making money to pay professional babysitters. The variety of good "healthy" food is absent. Their snacks are a daily rotation of cheese and crackers, graham crackers and milk, or animal crackers and milk.... Cheerios/Kix/or cornflakes each morning, and that's suppose to be enough to learn on, food-wise. The place could be a lot cleaner overall. The carpets are rarely cleaned because it's a State building, and the kid's bathroom/changing table are not up-kept like they should be after each use. The changing table always has little butt crumbs, and other debris in the corners, meaning it isn't wiped regularly. You'll notice a complaint below from Aug 2019. Because of this posting, an email was sent out to ask the parents/guardians to review rainbow daycare. That is why you'll see a small spike in reviews from October - December, when they asked the families to help balance the reviews aka wanted us to create a rebuttal to something we weren't involved in. Prior to that, they'd never asked, or encouraged us to say one thing or another. If you just need a cheaper babysitting solution while you work, this is good enough for that, but if you feel your kid may go to the next level in education, you should try a center that prioritizes that. You'll pay more, but it could be worth it, later. The families there were diverse, and nice. I don't want to be contacted for telling my truth. I could have gone on, and said more about things, but it seems abusive to go that route when the focus is on your child's future. Plan well! read more

Rainbow Day Care Center is a great place to take your child for child care. Staff is friendly, accommodating to ones schedules, and always willing to assist. Ms. Dominique takes the time to thoroughly answer any questions we have in a timely matter both in person and via email. Parents are encouraged to attend many functions such as board meetings, school activities, and parent/teacher gatherings to gain familiarity with what is occurring within the day care. Our daughter has been going to this day care since January of this year. She started twice a week as this was her first time away from home. Tears were no exception for our daughter, but the staff was extra caring towards her and now our daughter can't wait to go everyday. She attends 5 days a week at full time schedule in the Pre-K classroom. Thank Rainbow Daycare for always addressing our questions, and doing what is in the child's best interest. Rainbow is a caring nonprofit with happy Kids, you feel it right when you walk in the door. It is a play-based, peanut free facility that my children have been apart of for the past 4 years now. We are currently enrolled. Rainbow also has a benefit for state workers by giving them priority in which my ex husband happens to be. My family and I are happy here which is why we decided to stay through their Pre-Kindergarten Program. read more

The teachers he had in the green class (newborn - 2 years old) were absolutely amazing. The staff is so loving and caring, I have so much respect for the work that they do on a daily basis. This facility represents what EVERY parent wants for their child. The director is an amazing lady. Every child is her child. She is articulate, pleasant, charming, outgoing, professional, helpful and simply outstanding in terms of assisting parents with every need. She is incredible. The school has live pets for the children ( fish,turtle ) and no-sugar in the food. They assist with getting your child off the bottle, potty training and social/emotional development. This is a co-op so the parents are as involved as they want to be ( mandatory # of hours per year ) but all assistance is appreciated. The parent feels really involved in their child'd life. The waiting list is months long but if you are patient and get on the list, you will not regret it. This school is like an extension of your home. They are your family. My son goes to Rainbow and we are very happy there! It is still a co-op which helps keep costs down and it is run by a board of directors who are all parents of students there. Most of the teachers have been there for years and years. They pay them better and provide good benefits so they will stay. Staff are very professional, high caregiver to child ratios, well organized management. Awesome playground on the inside of the building protected from the street in an open air atrium. Excellent food program. Excellent transition program as the child moves from one age group class on up. They have a full day pre K program, much better than public school pre K program. My daughter has attended Rainbow Day Care for two years. These are the reasons you should choose Rainbow: 1) Competent and caring teachers and administration with very low turnover; 2) Smooth transition program between levels as your child grows, your child will "visit" the new class for several weeks; 3) Pre-K class takes children who will enter kindergarten the next year to their own room for a more structured pre-k environment. This is a considerable value if you compare private school pre-k rates; 4) Many family/extra activities, including, Fall Festival, Holiday Program, February Friendship day, field trips to the farmer's market in the summer, etc.; 5) Non-corporate, parent-run board and required parent volunteer hours leads to greater parental involvement/oversight of care and facility; and 6) the outside play area is one of the best around. read more

My wife and I were fortunate enough to have found Rainbow Daycare after a week of search for a new daycare for our son. After visiting different daycare facilities, we were impressed by the professionalism and structure Rainbow provides. All the staff are very nice, caring and professional.
