My little one went here for preschool for a little over two years and we LOVE the team! They are great with the kiddos and parents! They even helped me potty trained my little guy who picked it up quickly! They have excellent structure and a huge plus is that they provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The prices are fair and they even teach the kiddos basic Spanish. I love the community and it feels like I left my kid with family. I felt like he was safe and cared for which is priceless. The playground is huge and I love that it's completely gated since it is midtown area. You need a key to get in and that made it feel very secure that it wasn't a free for all kind of door. They have a scheduled nap time and even if your kid isn't a napper they are expected to lay down quietly and can read books & have a comfort item like a stuffy. Even though they don't have cameras or an app for updates, they are great about communicating info to the parents and take pics of the kids and give you copies. They are open and transparent so you can stop by and check on your kid anytime. They have been around for over 70 years and not many places can say that! I cannot say enough great things about Tot Town! I feel like we won the lottery here. EVERYONE is amazing... not just a select few. My son has been going to Tot Town for over two years and it's been an amazing experience. My pandemic baby turned toddler and I was scrambling to find a care center for him. After being on countless waitlists without even being able to tour those facilities (not to mention the cost, yikes), my friend recommended Tot Town. Once I did the walk in tour and learned their philosophy, I knew it was the place for us. I have a very anxious child and I feel that Nancy and the rest of the Tot Town staff have gone above and beyond to make him feel comfortable. They even initiated potty training for us which was a huge relief. We look forward to the holiday/monthly activities and special guests like the Bee Show and fire truck demonstration, to name a few. My son has one year left and it will be a sad day when he moves on but I'm proud to say that my youngest will be starting in the next few months. Unfortunately, Nancy hung up on me twice today after I called back to ask 2 questions. She called me this morning saying there was an opening and said we could call her back with a decision later this week. We discussed it and have a few more questions that needed answers before we could make an informed decision because this would be our first daycare experience: how many kids are currently enrolled and do we have to prove we are essential workers? Nancy said "i don't have to prove anything to you. I don't think this is going to work out. Don't call back". That was her response to my questions. She said they currently have 25 kids but normally have 75 and are expecting more in May-June. I called back to see if the line just dropped and she didn't actually hang up on me but she listened to me explain that I was not questioning her abilities and there was a misunderstanding but she, again, said "don't call back again". I know these are crazy stressful times but that was totally UNPROFESSIONAL and do not want my child around that kind of personnel. read more

I really can't say enough good things about Tot Town. I have two kids attending (ages 4 and 2) and they both love going each day. The entire staff is welcoming and they all help each other out when needed. We started sending our kids during COVID and the school has done a nice job ensuring the kids and teachers safety. There's nothing fancy about Tot Town, no daily report emails or anything like it, but the owner Nancy is a wonderful person with a straight-forward and balanced approach to educating and nurturing children. In addition, Tot Town is very competitively priced; I don't think anyone else comes close to their low price. One thing that speaks volumes about Tot Town, you can visit at any time. Our twins have been students at Tot Town since they were 2 years old (just turned 4). Nancy the Director has pushed us outside of our comfort zone as parents on several occasions, and each time she was right! She helped us to dump the pacifier for one of our girls in two days, helped us get the girls potty trained in two weeks and helped us navigate some pretty challenging temper tantrums with one of the twins. You can see how much our children love it there when they run in the door yelling "Nancy" or one of their teachers names. If you are looking to be coddled as a parent, this is not the Daycare/Preschool for you, but if you are looking for a place for your children to thrive, get dirty, and have a blast this is the spot! My son has been enrolled at Tot Town since he was 2 1/2. He's now 5 and will "graduate" this year to kindergarten. We'll both miss Tot Town! In the three years I've been using Tot Town, I have never had any concern about his safety or education. The staff at Tot Town are wonderful! Most of the teachers have been there for 8+ years. That longevity and low turnover says a lot about the environment they work in and the leadership of Nancy, the owner/director. The school is warm and friendly, the instructors are current on teaching tools and techniques, and the children are loved and supported in their development. There are lots of educational toys and activities, nutritious meals and snacks, and a good balance of unstructured play time and instruction. Outside there's a large play yard, with a separate area for the two year-olds to enjoy. My son loves it at Tot Town and has learned so much - from basic computer skills to colors, letters, personal safety and playing well with others. He wasn't fully potty trained when he first started, but they had him in regular undies and using the potty like a big boy within a week! (I was amazed and very grateful!) Their focus is on helping the children to develop a can-do attitude and give them the skills they need to excel in kindergarten and beyond. Don't let the nondescript exterior of the building fool you, there's lots of vitality and fun things going on inside. read more

We had both our boys at Tot Town from 2 on until they went to kindergarten. We love Tot Town and they love tot town. My older son always loved going to their parties even when he wasn't going to tot town any more. My youngest son alway wanted to stay at tot town when we would drop off our older son, that when it was his day to go he was beyond excited, and he still loves this place. My wife and I love it, because our kids learn so much there. They do potty training, and teach them how to sit and listen, and play nicely with other kids. They are also very flexible. Both our kids were on the 3 day program, because I'm a community college teacher and work 3 days a week, but my days change every semester, and they allow us to change every semester. Went in for a tour & was met by one of the owners. The great thing about this place, they will tour with you anytime (no need to set up in advance, they state that) They are also nut & meat free. The owner was extra nice & sweet, & even gave me a book that she wrote titled "When Mommy & Daddy say no, they still love you." Each page describes scenarios where a child would want to play, but the parent says no for safety reasons. There wasn't an opening for my little one, but I would definitely consider having her here-Again-the fact that one can tour anytime, just shows an immense amount of trust for me-full open door policy. read more

I would absolutely recommend Tot Town to anyone with small children - and I have! I myself heard about them from another satisfied family. The director and staff are amazing. They are all so involved, informed, and sincerely invested. My daughter was there for two years and, although now in first grade, still talks about Tot Town and wishes she could go there. I really can't say enough great things about the facility. It is welcoming, clean, nurturing, and safe. I was never concerned about my daughter's care when she was there. My daughter is Autistic, and I can honestly say she made the greatest educational and social strides while attending Tot Town. I wish everyone in Sacramento with children age 18 mo.-6 yr. knew about this wonderful childcare facility. My two children arrived at Tot Town after experiencing three other "fancy" places in Sacramento, and I recommend Tot Town without hesitation. It's no secret to the families at Tot Town how lucky we are to have found the place! For more than 60 years, Tot Town has helped care for children. The philosophy is that children are capable human beings that need loving, logical guidance to grow able to make their own decisions. The discipline is rock solid and consistent, and the children are HAPPY. The food is nutritious and they always post the menu so you can sync your dinner plans with the offerings. Is your child allergic to peanuts, or doesn't eat beef or pork? Tot Town is a peanut-free zone and the only meat served is chicken or tuna, and they make delicious bean dishes too! Breakfast is available without the nickel-and-diming that other places shake you down for. The teachers are smart, kind and child-focused as it should be. I would have expected to pay WAY more than other places for all that Tot Town offers, but Surprise. They have a lower cost and higher value than anywhere else. They don't drag your kids out to field trips (isn't that what summer camp and elementary school is for?) they bring the fun IN to Tot Town: Bee shows, magic shows, ice cream parties, holiday parties, police and fire station visits, just to name a few of the extra activities. And each year, Tot Town gives your kids little shirts with the logo on it, and those are my daughter's favorite shirts! My son moved on to Kindergarten last year, but he still gets to visit for a day here and there when school is closed, and he loves to come back to Tot Town! Tot Town's play yard is filled with bikes and fun things to play in and climb and lots of space to run and be a kid, with ample shade and picnic benches for resting/eating outside. My neighbor recently started bringing her daughter to Tot Town and she would tell you the same positive experiences. I commend Nancy and her team for a job well-done. I can't speak highly enough of what a wonderful program Tot Town offers children. This is my daughter's last week there, as she'll be entering kindergarten next week. I've never written a Yelp review before, but felt compelled to after the fantastic experience we've had with Tot Town. My daughter has attended this preschool for the last two years and her time there has been nothing short of amazing! Daycares do not get any better than this. Our daughter has been going here for just over a year. We had to pull her out of another daycare because the other director didn't seem to really like her job, kids or life, for that matter. This place is clean, the staff is friendly without seeming fake about it, the director is on top of things, and the general development of our child has been extraordinary. She was potty trained in about 2-3 weeks, and her language and social skills have improved dramatically since joining. This place has plenty of room to roam, good food and great activities throughout the year. We couldn't have designed a better daycare if we tried. read more

We wanted to love Tot Town. We really did try. The location and price are incredible, but there were some pretty major problems that we just couldn't get over. Even though I swear someone is ALWAYS cleaning, it's not the cleanest place. It smells like dirty diapers. In the 10 months our kid was there, he saw his doctor on 11 different occasions for illness (including one ER visit). Diagnoses were everything from the flu, to pneumonia, to mono. This could be that it isn't clean, or because there are 70+ kids in what is essentially one room. I don't know. I do know that our kid has only had one minor cold in the 5 months that he's been at a new school. Nancy, the director, clearly cares a great deal for the kids and the kids seem to love her just as much. When our child first started, he cried everyday at drop off. For months we were told that it was normal. Then when normal wasn't normal anymore, we were told that we needed to parent differently because he was too attached to us. When we left the school after 10 months, our kiddo was still crying almost everyday (like falling to the ground kicking and screaming level crying). We would ask how our child's day was and we would be told only whether he napped or not and would sometimes be told that he had a good day. There was no communication about what our child was learning so we really had no clue what he did all day and were not really given any info when we asked. Since we've been at a different school, we always know that our child is learning and what he is learning. Oh, and we've had maybe 3 or 4 challenging drop offs in 5 months...otherwise he begs us to leave the house for school in the mornings and tells us how happy he is all the time. The illness and the fits and the poor communication were challenging for sure, but what made us finally leave Tot Town was the way child safety was handled. We had some concerns about the way a teacher was treating another child. I spoke to Nancy. Explained that the teacher was seen yelling at and being physically aggressive toward the child. She said that she would address it with the teacher and call me back. Instead, she had the teacher, who was also my child's teacher, call me back to explain to me that this particular kid is just challenging and sometimes needs a firmer hand. So now the teacher knows that I'm the parent that complained about her which puts my kid at risk. It was a terrifying feeling. This incident made it very clear to me that the children in this class were not being treated well and the only way my barely verbal child could tell us that something was wrong was to throw tantrums at drop off. We moved to a new school pretty quickly after that, but went back to pick up a friends child a couple of months later. When we walked into the place, my bubbly and carefree kid became shy and stiff and clingy. When he saw the teacher, he became so terrified that he tried to climb up my body for safety and started to cry. Nancy can blame my parenting all day long, but my mama gut knows that something scary happened to my kid there. Unfortunately, all I can do is send out a warning to other parents to really keep an eye on the Tot Town staff if their kids go there and to urge parents to send their kids elsewhere so long at that teacher still works there. We had friends with a child at Tot Town and for their safety we waited until the child had been moved to write this review. I also left out the teacher's name intentionally. If you want to know her name to make sure she's gone before sending your child to that school, feel free to message me. Good luck in your search for childcare/preschool. If you choose Tot Town, just keep a watchful eye. A lot of the teachers there are really wonderful and kind. read more

This Tot Town pre-school is all about dictatorship. Parents either accept the ways Tot Town take care of your children or got kicked out of your children because parents have negative comments on the Tot Town's rules. Nancy, director of Tot Town states that Tot Town teach high technology computer training to children but all that high technology computer training is an old computer with a mouse in a small room letting 2 years old, 3 years old kids playing video games and let children watching cartoon TV games. As parents, we do not want our children got used to play video games and to watch TV in early ages, then we would like to bring up our concerns of playing video games and TV classroom activities to Tot Town. We were frustrated to look for other pre-schools to our children and we are mad about Tot Town about irresponsible response to parents' comments that they believe that were negative to their school which nothing related to innocent children that got kicked out of this pre-school. On the top of this ridiculous dictatorship of Tot Town, Tot Town teachers all look like women just released from hospital or prison. Some looks like skinny and bone pale face sick looking, and some looks like gangster with taboos and broken teeth. The teachers are great with the kids. My daughter loves the school and that is what really matters. There are a lot of fun activities throughout the school year. Holiday parties, ice cream social, puppet show, bee show, fruit share, pizza party, and fire truck visit to name a few. Focus themes change weekly and the kids rotate between classroom, so they are never bored. This is an older school, so the facility is dated, but it is kept clean. read more
