My wife and I were really worried she might react the same way here -- but guess what, she's doing so much better at Merryhill! This school truly has empathy and warmth. Ms Gram and Ms Niemand are not just teachers -- they give real mothership. They make my daughter feel secure, trusting, and cared for. My daughter is a highly sensitive child (HSP) -- she feels anxious with too many strangers or changes around her, so it takes time for her to adapt. From day one, both teachers have been incredibly patient and loving. They treat every child equally, with the same care and responsibility. One day my daughter told me about a new boy who cried nonstop during his first week. Every time we came to pick her up, we'd see him closely attached to the teachers -- it was clear he felt safe with them. He literally follows Ms Gram wherever she goes, which says everything about how nurturing they are. Other things I love about this school: parents get monthly reports for their kids, there are regular teacher-parent meetings, and they offer a great variety of lunch options and events for kids to learn and explore. We're so grateful to have found a school that truly understands children and provides such a loving environment.

My husband and I toured 10+ daycares for our toddler and always left other locations with uncertainty but felt so confident about our son's safety and wellbeing at Growing Minds. All staff have been so welcoming and kind. My son is pretty shy but lights up as we approach his classroom, smiling ear to ear when he sees his friends and teacher. Our favorite part, besides the people, is the app! Getting notified when he is checked in and out and receiving pictures through the day has made us feel so much better about the idea of daycare. Background: When covid happened, we pulled our daughter, Mackenzie, out of preschool that spring and she stayed out of the school environment through the summer. She started kindergarten virtually, but unfortunately, she was one that did not build a good enough foundation to help her succeed in her schoolwork, even after they went back in person. Fall 2022: Fast forward to this school year, and we're at parent teacher conferences reviewing her MAP scores. She was essentially reading at a kindergarten level, and performing at a 1st-ish grade level in math. So, we needed to do something to help her catch up. We researched several places local centers and also considered private tutoring from teacher friends. We decided on The Tutoring Club for several reasons: 1) We liked the director, Jessica, who had the same ideology of how we learned "back when we were in school" and how their curriculum supported it. 2) We liked the flexibility to help Mackenzie with her school work, in addition to the curriculum they had her do. 3) We liked that it's a brick and mortar. We can always count on them being there, and they are also reasonable with absences - if we had to miss a day here and there because of our other extracurricular activities. Mackenzie started attending tutoring in mid-October and went for 2 hour sessions, 3 days a week. She loved it! The tutors incentivized the work so that she had a goal. They made it fun for her, and it motivated her to want to learn to read. The tutors are friendly and they made the experience enjoyable for her. Spring 2023: It's now May, and we received Mackenzie's final MAP scores of the year. Her test scores substantially grew over the entire school year, and she is now above grade level for both subjects! I would attribute her success completely to the work that the Tutoring Club has done with her, as we never changed anything in our home life. We are so grateful for the help that the Tutoring Club provided, and again, we highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great tutoring center in North Las Vegas!

Every morning when Mikkel comes in, she is very cheerful and greeted Mikkel warmly. She also provides daily updates using their school app. Ms. Susan (owner and school director) is also amazing! She gets to know the students well! My son is a slow and picky eater, she brought it to my attention that he is not eating well. Both her and Ms. Feri assured me that they will would make sure that they will pay more attention to make sure Mikkel eats. Thanks to SVMS and Mikkel is enjoying school right now. I love the 4 days a week, uniforms, recess length is great and the school/staff overall is great. Greta is awesome. She was so welcoming when I emailed her and she helped me get my son enrolled. We would see Norman regularly during pick-up and he has an amazing memory. He would greet us by name whenever he saw us. My son's teacher Ms. J was also pretty cool. I know she probably got tired of my concerns, but she put up with me and handled them :) thanks Ms. J. The concerns that had to be addressed were bullying, body shaming and exposure to pornography . My son - a kindergartener at the time - went through an initiation type of incident with a group of kids, he was body shamed at lunch time for being skinny repeatedly and there was a teacher, Mr. Scottch, who kept turning of the internet safety. My son's friend told him to google something and my son came home explaining that he saw adults doing weird things. I'm not okay with the things that happened to him and what he saw but we have to move on with life. I will be fair as well, Ms. J addressed all of my concerns. They talked to the students who were bullying and their parents. I found out at back to school night that 1 student left the school, the other was not going to be in his class and the third one became friends with my son toward the end of the school year. They were even friendly with each other at back to school night. The teacher who was turning of the internet safety is gone and there is a new program to help kids safe while they use the internet (I hope it works for their sake). The teacher of the student who was body shaming my son talked to him so that was that. I will say the teachers here will back up your child if you express your concerns to them. Back to school night for the (2026-2027) school year was kind of cool but kind of messy. The cafeteria was open to families and students grade 1-6th. It was nice to see Greta and Norman. Some of the staff that recognized my son and my son's previous classmates greeted him so that was nice too. The downside was that it was crowded, hot and I could not hear a single word the Principal said during his speech. It was also cool seeing the tortoise come out to bath in his water bowl and then go back to him habitat. During back to school night we met who would have been my son's 1st grade teacher Ms. Santos. She was very kind, addressed my concerns about my son sitting near the boy who was his bully but is now a friend because I don't want them to disrupt each other, and she answered my questions. I asked her how much screen time the kids would have and she said 30 minutes on iReady. I use to work at Elaine Wynn Elementary as a tutor with One on One Learning. I've seen iReady and I feel that the program is a waste of time and resources. I expressed that I would like to opt my son out of using iReady and do analog work instead. Ms. Santos said it would be difficult to do that as the school is very data driven. So I emailed the Dr. Feinstein and told him I would like other options outside of iReady for my son. I never heard back from him. Once I told Ms. Santos this she then informed me that my son would also be using Tech Design and Epic and would be assigned a laptop that he would also use for Spanish projects. Here's the thing, there is so much evidence out, including MRI scans, that show that screen time is terrible for kids under 8. "But it's educational" you say? Here is a direct quote, "Recent studies using MRI scans suggest that higher daily screen time in young children is associated with lower structural integrity and development of white matter in the brain, particularly in tracts supporting language, literacy, and executive functions." Google that and tell me you still support this as a parent and an educator? Nevada is the 5th largest school district in the nation. LA is the 2nd largest and they have already banned screen use up to 2nd grade. We should not be allowing children to be experiments. These kids are 6/7 years old! They need to be reading, writing, playing, singing, moving, practicing verbally and with manipulatives. "But it's only an hour or so of screen time a day" you say? The results show that ANY screen time is not helping students. When Ms. Santos said that VVA is a data driven school I filled out my Notice of Intent to homeschool and emailed VVA with my son's withdrawal. I had high hopes that this school wouldn't become what other schools are becoming and pretend that screen time is preparing students for the future. There's a reason why Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs would not allow their kids to use screens/tech. It was a tough decision but we decided not to move forward with VVA this year. I hope they ban screens soon for the younger grades. That's would be a great start.

My daughter is now in her second year at VVA, and she absolutely loves it! The school excels in every aspect. They offer a diverse curriculum that includes experiential learning, daily Spanish classes, and monthly field trips. Since moving to their new campus, the school has worked so hard to provide students with a variety of activities and clubs to join. The staff is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about our children. I'm excited for my kids to continue growing and learning here, especially as the school expands to eventually serve grades K-12.
