Odyssey Charter Elementary School is fantastic! They're a hybrid school, which means each student needs to physically attend an in person class and the rest of the week they're home schooled. Principal Gerry Born is the best principal ever! Very attentive and very engaging with both teachers, students and parents. The teachers are spectacular! They really care about educating the children. They make sure they make it a fun environment, so the children feel at ease. Making it easier for them to learn new information. This school seems very advanced and up to date with their teachings and their technology. Since attending this school, I've noticed my child is a bit more advanced on the academic side compared to her other peers that go to regular in person public schools. Nothing against public schools, this school just works out for us as a family. This school uses real life scenarios in their quarterly projects. For example, they need to research about their dream vacation and how much it cost in real time and create a budget, etc. Surprisingly, as parents, after realizing her dream vacation was definitely more doable budget wise, we were able to actually take her on that dream vacation in less than a year's time. It not only teaches the students, but every assignment and project teaches us as parents as well. We highly recommend this charter school. read more

There is a diverse staff and student population and I appreciate that Odyssey was already doing online education in an exceptional manner prior to covid. Odyssey Charter School is the best school my kids has ever been in, hands down. The teacher ask great and they enjoy their jobs. They love the kids, they keep in contact with the parents. Even tho the kids go for 3 hrs, oncea week it's makes up for not being a 5 days a week school thru kids activities, field trips etc. Overall 5 starts is not enough. I just saw my old review from 2014 and since my son graduated from Odyssey in 2017 I thought I'd share an update. We were REALLY glad we made the move to Odyssey, it was the best experience we had in Clark County schools. Schools have dramatically changed since I graduated from high school in 1985, much for the worse. While we used to appreciate good teachers, now it's almost impossible to find them. Public schools are a disaster on every level, they are no longer learning the basics of Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic and are instead being indoctrinated by s0cia1ist p01itical activists who are often morally challenged individuals. Odyssey allowed us to jump through all the required hoops, gain and prove the proficiency in subjects required by the State, and keep the indoctrination time to a bare minimum. As it was, the teachers were helpful when needed and were better than most of the other Clark County schools we attended. My son kept up with his studies which meant he only went to the school for 4 hours a week. We traveled extensively and had to deal with out of state family illnesses and were able to reasonably reschedule the 4 hours to the week before or after. My son learned how to work independently throughout the week to keep on track, and that has extended well into working as an independent contractor IRL, a skill many adults never develop. If you are looking for an alternative to institutionalized education and don't have the ability to send your child to a private school Odyssey's hybrid education proved to be an excellent option for us. read more

This is our first year at Odyssey but so far I'm loving it. My daughter is a freshman in HS but has some anxiety and also a few learning challenges but so far Odyssey has been so on top of things. Compared to another school with this similar motto odyssey has treated us so much better and makes sure my daughter knows if she puts in the work and takes advantage of the support offered here I really think she will thrive and the staff so far has made us so confident of that. Now as I said above putting in the work is required and for some kids (like my other child) would definitely have a hard time with this learning model because it does only have one day in person and the rest is online. However the staff we have encountered has been very responsive in getting in touch with me even before school started to handle my daughters iep and make sure she has access to the accommodations she qualifys for and compared to my experience in regular CCSD schools this one blows them away and my kid is actually learning instead of having to deal with special Ed classes with not enough staff.. Either way so far we are so happy with odyssey and the energy and awesome things like student council .. This may change but for now I am proud to have my child here.. I am so glad I removed my son from Coral and began Odyssey Charter. The staff is wonderful! The curriculum is well payed out. The teachers seem very happy to work her. I am so glad I found this gem!!! They have their school very controlled ( unlike Coral which is out of control) students are expected to have manners(which I LOVE) if you are thinking about this school....I am telling you .... best decision ever!! read more

My son has had educational challenges throughout regular schools and was failing miserably, even with an IEP. I found Odyssey Charter Schools online and since then, his grades have improved substantially. Odyssey has proved to be the best thing that ever happened. I enrolled him in Nevada Connect, but found that I had to sit down with him and do the work myself. The teachers were difficult and nearly impossible to reach. Odyssey, on the other hand, is right there with you every step of the way. They absolutely will NOT let your child fail. They call/text the parents, they answer the telephone, they allow your child to come in 5 days a week if necessary. This is the BEST school ever and is a great alternative to regular schools. read more

The biggest problem with this school is that the teachers do NONE of the teaching and the parents have to do ALL of the teaching. Instead of pointing parents to other websites to help with math why not have your teachers actually teach? I don't need a life coach for my child, I need a teacher. He is in 4th grade with odyssey and his teacher gets online once a week to work on 1 math problem then they play games and share. This is not enough teaching in my humble opinion. I asked if I can get my son into the math program that has some extra help but i was told he would have to have a grade below 40% to qualify. Why let a student get so far behind before you decide to help. What kind of school turns down a student needing help??? Honestly if they spent some time each day allowing students to jump on a meeting with the teacher for some actual math teaching or tutoring this school would be ok. I thought we would be able to tough it out at odyssey but it looks like we may have to go back to our old school. From what I hear they are actually teaching the kids online everyday. Very wonderful school! My son has attended traditional CCSD schools up until his junior year and I tell you, there is a HUGE difference in his grades and his personality. He himself has even said that Odyssey puts more effort into teaching the students than a traditional school. Sadly it seems these days that only a handful of teachers truly care about the student. I transferred my daughter to this school as well and a huge difference in her also. She attends the junior high program and she loves it. At Odyssey their motto is that no two students learn the same, therefore they have teachers in and out of the classroom individually working with the students with their learning needs. Only drawback that my children don't like is that the teachers actually call you when your child isn't doing their homework, but I'm not complaining! read more

My son has gone to this school since he was in 7th grade. He has had anxiety and serious health problems so this school has been good at accommodating those needs. But unfortunately, it really isn't a good school when you get to high school. There are no teachers teaching any subjects so all they do is go to class and do their schoolwork online in class and they can't talk to each other at all. These kids are lonely. They are only in class for 4 hours one day a week. There are a few truly wonderful people at Odyssey. The principal, and Mr. Carter, former principal, and his counselor. But most of the teachers are petty and judgemental. And their nurse is just a person who is lacking in compassion and doesn't seem to like her students, at least the students who give her a problem, which is my kid because he has serious health issues that she doesn't seem to understand. read more

My children always have attended normal public schools after a major tragedy and surgeries my kids needed a different environment than what a public school could provide. Odyssey has been a blessing and has helped The teens to be able to attend class and not fall behind in grades. I transferred to Odyssey my sophomore year and graduated with honors in 2009. I was never someone that thrived in the typical classroom environment especially with teachers that did not care. They didn't care so why should I right? That is not the case with Odyssey the teachers and staff truly care and want to see you succeed and will do what they can to help. They offered one on one sessions on top my scheduled day and those sessions with Dr Thatcher are the only reason I passed geometry. Our third year at Odyssey, so I thought I would share some info and highlights with parents looking for alternatives to traditional school setting. I have long considered home school for my son, who has struggled with traditional school setting for years. Asperger's diagnosis comes with many challenges, making getting through a typical school day a struggle. After trying everything from Child Find early program when he was three, to attending public school, to moving onto catholic school, all the while partaking in behavioral, speech therapy, autism programs, medication, I was open to trying just about anything to make the educational experience as effective for my son and smooth for those around him as I could. Home school seemed like a logical choice, but I was always intimidated by the idea. A friend suggested Odyssey, and what a gem it turned out to be! Your child gets all curriculum, support, materials he could need or want. The roadmap is clearly defined, there is no guess work, and if you feel like your child is getting through his/her work too easily- you quickly get accustomed to finding additional resources with the guidance of your teachers. The format through 5th grade goes like this- all curriculum for the week is loaded into the "portal" on Sunday night/Monday morning, complete with work sheets, links to e-learnings, etc. Teacher meets your child once a week on the same day at the same time for an hour. Students are grouped geographically, so your teacher might cover first and fifth graders. The visits are meant to collect grades (you grade the work) and provide support in any subject your child needs help with. Visits are either held at home or library, whatever you agree on. There are social outings, picnics, field trips to give your child a chance to interact with others. Occasionally you will need to visit campus for testing. Starting with 6th (our current) grade, visits are suspended and your child now spends four hours/week on campus. Extra lab time us available as needed. The great thing about the program is you can push your child and really stretch them beyond required minimum. The caution I would extend to a parent considering Odyssey is don't think of it as computer teaching your child and you kicking your feet up. You will read, study, agonize over spelling and tests every minute alongside your child. Think of it as sitting at the school desk with them for the duration of their learning journey. Yes, you'll Google things you've forgotten in 5th grade and you will become more appreciative of Khan academy, than an average American of Wikipedia. I found it to be an ideal setting for my academically bright but socially struggling little one. read more

My daughter hated traditional middle school - and I hated it too. Nobody at her old school knew up from down, and half the instructors didn't speak English. Don't even get me started on the constant sexual harassment that occurs in this school district! A year ago, I was doubting that she would graduate high school. By the end of the last school year, I started to wonder if she would even survive to the end of high school. It's a sad state of affairs when you have to seriously worry about your child's safety when sending them off to school. This is our second week with Odyssey and I'm very pleased. English appears to be the primary language for all of her instructors. In fact, even the office personnel and administrators have a good grasp of the language. Rather than going to school in fear and faking illnesses, I now hear (on almost a daily basis) how much she loves school, loves homeschooling, loves Odyssey, etc... I never EVER thought I'd see the day when that kid enjoyed school. I love that I can help her with her work. I can teach her things in a way that she'll understand, rather than being limited to the only way that the teacher will allow. I just need to be sure she asks me for help (or I hover over her), otherwise she still has problems. My only concern is the lack of time that is spent on schoolwork. She's been breezing through the lessons, usually only spending about an hour a day to do her work. And then she brags about it to her sister, who is in a traditional elementary school.This is just the second week, though, so that might have something to do with it. I do need to hover over her more than I thought, to be sure she isn't just guessing during the quizzes. There is a lot more peace and harmony in the house now. I am hopeful about my daughter's future, for the first time in years. She is enjoying school, for the first time ever. I wish I had heard about Odyssey a long time ago. read more

Very disappointing experience -dropped off application for transfer to 8th grade for my daughter on October 24th 2016 // She has an IEP , so I asked if it would be a problem , they said absolutely not, she was 6th on the waiting list , so i quote " she will surely get in" called back a week after to follow up - told to wait a bit for app to be evaluated and they will call if anything needed Called back a couple of week after , they said - I should wait to make sure that they could accommodate her needs, and will let me know ... Called back another couple of weeks after , - said all was fine but because of her review , she was now at the 13th space , did not make sense to me .. and ask if anything could be done in that regard .. , they said it still should be fine ... Still no news after a month or so ... I called back ... - was told to call Brenda at special education , because she had a question ... Called Brenda ... - said needed an IEP document that did not say draft on it .. ( even tough I mentioned when I personally dropped of the application that it was the finalized IEP and dated just one month earlier ... she then said that nothing could be done without that --- a big change from everything I had heard so far ...... !! emailed it right away and ask for confirmation - got confirmation Followed through next day by mail to ask status and what rank in the waiting list she was at that time .... - she said all good we have everything and her file is complete , I believe she is now rank second but you would have to call the front desk as they have the accurate number. - called the front desk to confirm her 2nd spot waiting list, the answer was did you speak to Brenda .... with a little hesitation ., to which I said yes She apologized and said I needed to be transferred to her .. So after all those phone calls and more than 3 months of wait ... Brenda said , oh we cannot take her we do not provide modified curriculum... That could have been said on the first phone call without all the false hope and time wasted ... read more
