From the moment you walk into this space, what you are confronted with is tons of all kinds of great and unique everything. Much of it is not only sold by local artisans, but made by them, as well. French market is predominantly an open air location. What you will find here are small shops that each offer a very unique collection of items that are very specific to their own shop. The items that are sold here span the gambit from jewelry, to artworks, to ethnic pieces that represent the culture from where the shop owner comes from. There is really a lot of everything at the French Market. Meaning, this is a great place to get that really unique gift that you wanna get for that special someone or to find that unique piece of whatever that you will personally use. As there are numerous shops here, each business provides a unique buying experience. Each one represents what they offer, and do it from their own perspective. From this, you'll find some shop merchants that are super friendly, very cordial, and more than willing to make deals with you. Others, not so much. But, that's what makes this location truly interesting. All the personalities that make up this shopping establishment. More than simply a place to shop for gifts, artworks, souvenirs, and the like, French Market also offers some great food stalls. So, if you need a snack, drink, or even a full meal, you can find it here. As this is open air, in the summer, it can get kinda hot inside this establishment. This is not bad or good, this is just something to keep in mind. This is the same during the winter months. You can't get kind of cold in there. But, at least from my perspective, that's a little bit easier to deal with. You just have to wear a jacket. Overall, this is one of the main stays of NOLA. It's truly a must see location. And, for people who know the city well, this is a place to go to when you want to find that truly unique item. Truly, you never know what you'll find.

This past year I've had a thing for purchasing copper jewelry- most bracelets from South Korea, Mexico City, Tijuana and Mt. Charleston. Wondered if anyone ever made copper necklaces. I saw a few vendors that had thick linked chains. I bought the medium $45 length- tax is high in New Orleans. Far cry from dainty but copper is supposed to be good for arthritis and health. Ok let's see.

I also bought 2 absolutely beautiful headbands. I can't remember the name for them right now, but it had feathers and jewels. The second time I came to New Orleans I was dying to check this place out again. I couldn't remember the name of it, but remember the general area that it looked like. I was so happy when I finally stumbled upon it and made sure to bookmark it on Yelp for next time! Although they did have a lot of the same jewellery I bought last time, there were some new pieces as well. They also have a wide range of standard souvenirs (magnets, shirts, mugs etc.). They seemed to be a little more unique, and well made than the standard "souvenir" shops.

She then got inappropriately mad, and started harassing me for it, so I left. She then told my mother whom I was there with, "he just left, so you should follow." So basically, we got kicked out for taking a photo of a photocopied sloth. So weird! It was a cheap little 11" copy, that she didn't even paint. Attached is the forbidden photo that got me kicked out. If you see this sloth, walk the other way!!
