Service was perfect, as expected, and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Often times these places offer small portions that taste mediocre at best. Well. As a person who grew up on the east coast, I've long known about the famous Rainbow Room at the top of the NBC/Rockefeller Center building in New York City. It's historic. It's legendary. I never expected to get to see it, but then my cousin and his wife chose this venue for their spectacular wedding reception. First - think black tie, think elegant, think beautiful, think "this room has totally been in movies." Second - the view. This building has the most spectacular views of the New York skyline, especially the Empire State Building. You can see the Statue of Liberty and beyond if the weather is good. Third - the food. This was a wedding where I literally wanted to eat anything I could and there was SO much good food. I particularly loved the baby lobster rolls served during the cocktail hour. My cousin chose beef wellington and sea bass as their entree choices, and both were spectacular. I had the Wellington and it was melt in your mouth perfect. Fourth - the staff. Talk about 5 star, A+ all the way service, this is it. Obviously a venue of this caliber is going to have a great staff. But we never wanted for anything. I had about two sips of champagne left and my glass was refilled. I never saw an empty glass. Napkins were folded and placed when someone got up. I also want to give a very special shout out to all of the staff, who so very kindly helped us get my aunt who is disabled upstairs, in place and situated. They were extra accommodating and extremely attentive, telling us things like there was another bathroom that would not require my aunt to climb any stairs. This was the swankiest, most beautiful wedding reception I have ever attended. Beautiful start to finish. If you can afford it, it would be an absolutely spectacular place for a special event. Upscale NYC restaurant that offers some of the best views of Manhattan. The resturant itself is on the top of Rockefeller center and every seat in the house offers breathtaking NYC views. Been here a few times and the food, service, and drinks are always top notch. They have a nice wine selection and some great specials. The last time I went i had a delicious wild black bass. The service is very attentive and helpful. The resturant is super expensive but you paying for the atmosphere. Make sure to make a reservation. read more

One of the most elegant top-of-the-building bar-and-restaurants in all Manhattan, if not the best. The views are absolutely breathtaking, as are the prices. For your most special occasion, celebration, marriage proposal, or for hosting your $25,000/plate fundraiser. The main dining room (ballroom?) Is exquisite. Memories of brunches and buffets, and tuxedoed dinners with speakers and programs, and of course, live music. True to Manhattan luxury cocktail pricing, ours were $60 each. The barman giggled as I handed him a hundred for our four. That's $250 please. Wow. Where else, but the rainbow room! Ah but the views! No dress code, so you might feel a bit overdressed among the throngs of tourists. Signage abounds from street level Rockefeller center corridors and doorways. I was here recently for an event, and the space is absolutely gorgeous. When i think of Rainbow Room, I think of decadent brunch buffets and one of the first places Anthony Bourdain got his start. It's really large, super open with windows, insane 360degree views of the city, and stunning interior design. I'm sure this venue is $$$$, but totally worth it if you're wanting to celebrate something really special and decadent. This space can also be occupied by hundreds (if not potentially a thousand) guests. If you're venue hunting and have some cash to spend, definitely consider Rainbow Room. read more

This review is going waaaaaaaay back but I came across some matches that reminded me of my time here. As you can tell by the matches, this is when Cipriani held the reigns, and I know a lot has changed since-not necessarily for the best-but during my visit, it was still considered a luxury landmark. I remember we sat at the bar, and the views of the Empire State Building were remarkable so high up. I honestly don't recall too much since this was such a long time ago, but it was a wonderful, last-minute drive up to New York City, my first time at The Rainbow Room, and things couldn't have been better. I don't believe I've had another great spontaneous night since. Seeing this place reopened (but not quite what it was), I'm glad others can enjoy it once again, but I'm remembering it as I saw it in memory. read more

I came here for a special event put on by my firm. The space is elegant and upscale without feeling stuffy. We rented out almost the entire space, so we spent time in a big ballroom and another long room that faced south that had a nice bar and was a bit more intimate. It was nice to have a boisterous space with loud conversations as well as a room where you could have more relaxed conversations by the bar. The views were fantastic all around. We were there at night so, the Midtown sky was lit up and it felt that much more special. The staff was also very good, friendly and helpful in pointing us to bathrooms and elevators, etc. The food was banquet style, but was delicious. We had steak, fish and some really great side dishes. Popped in here for a speaker event + wine tasting. The small first room was a long thin room facing the East, with a view of the MetLife building and the river, where you could view the city. Passed appetizers were so-so (chicken skewers w/ peanut sauce, cheese pastries (cold), and some mini mushrooms on a crispy chip), except with one item: the beef Wellington was amazing. That's worth coming back for. Popped into the ballroom which had tables set up for 10, a small stage up in front of the kitchen entry, and lots of crystals around the chandeliers and the top of the windows giving the place a bit of glitz. The service was generally good, though every once in a while they'd forget something or someone; it was busy and they often didn't look back at the table once they delivered a set of items over (so a few people missed getting tea or drinks periodically). Crab cake to start was ok, but I've had better with more meat and less filler. The 1934 Rainbow Room Filet Mignon Marechale wtih young asparagus, mushrooms, pommes mousseline, truffle brioche crumb and red wind jus was excellent, juicy and a reasonable portion. Done very well. The chocolate cake at the end was so-so. We had wine from an outside source, so I don't include that here, but overall the experience was good, I'll come here to try select items (they do beef well), and enjoy the views. read more

At the top of the NBC building is the Rainbow Room, a restaurant with a glittering view of NYC. It's only opened for events these days, but the space is gorgeous. It's been a minute since I last ate here, but I was remembering my last visit this evening and what a shame it's no longer opened the general public. I came to this exquisite bar with a group of friends a few weeks ago. We had reservations, but it took awhile for the staff to seat us - About an hour. We passed the time by basking in the glorious Midtown view from the 65th-floor outdoor patio and taking picturesque photographs as the sun was setting. We were even served complimentary champagne and allowed to sit in Bar SixtyFive, as a way to apologize for the long wait. Finally, we were taken inside, which was also Rosé Bar Pop-Up when we were there. The interior of the place was elegant and sexy, with white tablecloths, orange flower display at the center of the table, and more amazing views, including the Empire State Building. Even though I don't drink, I already knew what I wanted to try. I ordered the Champagne Donut Bouquet, which came with 3 sugar glazed donuts topped with Champagne icing and gold dust, along with pale pink cotton candy placed in the middle of the donuts and rosé sorbet. This dessert was plated beautifully and I absolutely LOVED all the pink! The donuts were perfectly moist, slightly sweet, and that icing was amazing - I could definitely taste the Champagne flavor and the gold dust was a fancy touch. The sorbet was yummy with a very delicate, unique taste. My friends and I decided to share the Cheese Platter, Meat Platter, and Pigs in A Blanket. The Cheese Platter had 5 different types of cheeses - mainly the soft cheeses with mold, which isn't my preference. I preferred the white cheddar. There were also green grapes, roasted walnuts, guava pieces, honey from the comb, bread, and thin crackers. It was a lovely smorgasbord and everything mingled together well. I enjoyed the thin crackers with cheese, as well as the guava which was quite syrupy sweet. The Meat Platter was just okay. There were approximately 6 different types of cured meats. This also came with toasted bread, pickles and a mystery mustard-y sauce. My favorite meat was the salami and thankfully there were several different kinds on the board. The flavor of the meats was definitely enhanced by the cheese. Pigs in A Blanket appetizer was pretty good. The outer crust was incredibly flaky and the hot dog was juicy, full of flavor. I also got to try the rack of lamb that my friend ordered, which was delicious! It was delightfully seasoned and very tender. For her birthday, my friend was served a chocolate cake in thin rectangular form with milk chocolate and white chocolate triangles on top. The cake was plated prettily on white and Happy Birthday was written in chocolate. It was wonderful... Rich with intense chocolate flavor, creamy and thoroughly delectable. I wish I had taken a bigger bite! The service started off a bit shaky. The waitress kept walking by but didn't stop to take our orders at first and then would disappear for awhile. Also, water wasn't given out automatically. I had to ask for it several times until she finally appeared with my request and she didn't even bring enough for everyone at the table. After a short moment, she came with the remaining water - which was not even iced like the others. Later on, she was more friendly and accommodating. We also met Jeremiah who I believe was a manager and he went above and beyond. He checked up on us to make sure we were taken care of and even let my friend take the plate that the cake was served on, home. This review is on the Sunday brunch buffet that they used to have (not the new a la carte menu complemented by various chef stations). Imagine a brunch buffet on the 65th floor overlooking NYC. I made a reservation a month in advance and asked for the table with the best view. They certainly honored that request, we're seated at a table by the windows, overlooking the Central Park area. There were so many people who stopped by our table to take selfies and group pictures by the windows, some of them almost knocked the ice bucket with stand (with my wine bottle in it) over. The dining hall is not too big but the decor is very elegant. The room is wrapped around by windows, and it has a chandelier in the middle. You would feel like you are in a gala. The brunch is buffet style. They have different stations: American - chicken pot pie, doughnuts, French toast, bacon, poached eggs with your chosen toppings (no shaved truffles that day) Asian - dim sum, sushi, curry and rice. Ham and cheese - various types of prosciutto and cheese. Seafood - boiled lobsters and crab legs, various types of raw oysters and clams. The lobsters disappear at a rapid speed as soon as they come out. Carving station - with different cuts of meats. Desserts station - ice cream, pastries, different sweets and treats. There's also live entertainment with a live band and a singer serenading guests from the 2nd floor balcony. We had a great time brunching for 3 hours, the bill came out to be $600+ for 3 people (with wine), but l would do it again in a heartbeat when there's a special occasion to celebrate. I heard that they have modified their Sunday brunch, I would have to look into it to see what changes they have implemented. Overall, the food was not too pleasing but there were so many options. The live entertainment was great and the service was attentive. The dining room is beautiful and the view is spectacular. I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 hours brunching with my mom and sister. read more

10 stars for the beautiful space. I came here for a holiday party, and loved the venue. When you walk in from the street, you follow the red carpet and up the stairs, whereby you check in your coat (more on the coat-check later) and take the elevator up to the 64th floor. From the rainbow room, you have such a stunning view of manhattan and all of its twinkling lights. The windows are decorated with crystals and in the middle of the room, which also serves as a dance floor, is a grandiose chandelier that sparkled all night. The bartenders were super efficient and friendly, despite the high demand all night from hundreds of us. The food was good - though I don't know how it compares to its regular menu. Among the food offerings, my favorites were a deconstructed grilled cheese with a dash of truffle oil, salmon tartare with a subtle sesame oil roasted flavor, as well as a pillowy and nutty butternut squash ravioli. But I had to dock one star as the coat check was an absolute mess, and it took us more than 30 minutes to get my coat. read more

RUN. I usually give places the benefit of the doubt, but the Rainbow Room was such an awful experience from start to finish that I had to share. Mother's day brunch reservation for 2:15pm was made a month in advance (April 16), confirmed via email that we would eat in the "rainbow room." Entire cost of the brunch was $161.10 per person, paid in advance, no refunds. ----- THE WAITING ----- - Our family STOOD FOR OVER AN HOUR in a CROWDED room with over 50 people, waiting for a table. NO COVID safety/social distancing was enforced. - My elderly mom has bad legs, but there were only about 5 chairs in the entire waiting space. She managed to find a seat after standing for the majority of the hour. - The process was mayhem. There was no time limit for dining, so it was VASTLY OVERBOOKED and reservations were running late. They said they would "call you" if your table opened up, but it was so crowded that it was impossible to hear if your time was called unless you were near the hostess. - After the hostess called our reservation time, we went up the elevator only to wait in a SECOND LINE for an ADDITIONAL 30 minutes right outside the restaurant. Everyone was starving and luckily there were some desserts that folks were able to scavenge and eat near the elevators. - After 1.5 hours of waiting, we didn't even get seated in the RAINBOW ROOM; instead we were given Bar SixtyFive. The Rainbow Room would've required an additional wait (for an unknown amount of time), and after waiting 1.5 hours for a late BRUNCH RESERVATION, we were fed up and decided to take the table. We were so upset by the long wait that we expected at least a good service. Sadly this couldn't have been further from the truth. ----- THE SERVICE ----- - The meal was family-style, but they gave us NO SERVING UTENSILS. Even before the pandemic, you wouldn't scoop a shared chicken pot pie with your own personally used utensils. We had to ask for serving utensils for each course. - The waiter would take our used utensils but not give us new ones, so sometimes it would be impossible to eat unless we hailed down someone. - Waiter barely came to check on us, so we needed to ask service from others. - Waiter never let us know that we could order coffee/tea with our dessert. We had to request it ourselves after seeing/smelling it at the other tables. - To-go boxes did not have matching lids, so we needed to request for rubber bands to make sure the containers would stay somewhat closed. ----- THE FOOD ----- It was average. I usually don't expect much from touristy places that pride themselves on the view. ----- THE GOOD ----- - Complimentary small bouquets of flowers in paper bags were offered - Complimentary champagne was served (upon request) for a few waiting outside the restaurant - Small desserts can be taken home (or in our case, eaten before the meal) We really wanted to love the Rainbow Room. We were having a joint engagement and Mother's day celebration with both sets of parents, eating together at a restaurant for the first time since the pandemic. My parents drove 2 hours just for this occasion, and we arrived at the Rainbow Room 15 minutes early to check in. If we were seated on time, we even would've been able to catch the view before it rained. It was so surprising that a renowned establishment would make these seemingly obvious management errors. I would have felt better about the experience if any of these were the case: - Established time limit for dining - Offer refunds, especially for terrible experience - Offer seats for long waits, especially for elderly parents on Mother's Day - Provide snacks/champagne/water for waiting guests without request - Enforce social distancing and keeping others from cutting the line - Attentive waiter and/or good service read more

My mom and I thoroughly enjoyed everything from the cocktails and appetizers to entrees and dessert. One thing that stood out to me was the beef tartar appetizer, so definitely give that a go. Service [4/5] - Very solid service; the staff were all professional and kind. They don't quite dote on you, but still a great experience. Ambiance [5/5] - You're 65 floors off the ground in the heart of Midtown; the view is going to be incredible. As I mentioned, try to go on a clear day where you can see far and wide. The ambience and the astonishing view from the 65th floor of 30 Rock is well worth the trip and the price you pay for it, especially if you're on vacation in NYC. Beware that they are sticklers for the business casual dress code, as they will not even let you up the elevator if you are not properly attired. But that is good. It adds to the ambience once upstairs as everyone is dressed nicely, so it makes it feel classier. The service is polite, friendly, helpful and attentive. The views of the city and the river and Central Park are gorgeous and worth paying $25 for a cocktail. The best time to go is at dusk to see the gorgeous sunset or at night to see NYC lit up. We were there when the Rose Pop-up Bar was there and were seated on the side where the Empire State Building was in full view. And yes, we had reservations for a party of 6. I shared the Clash of the Titans Burger ($65) with a friend. It was titanic, but oh so delicious. A toasted, soft brioche bun filled with a hamburger patty topped with cheese, smoked bacon, short ribs (tender and flavorful) and crowned with a lobster tail. It was oh so good! And it was served with a side of truffle fries. (Also delicious!). I'd order it again (and split it was someone). This was my first time here and it was just superb. As for the food, everything I ordered was excellent and the service was top notch. They provided a complimentary pea soup shot, which was a nice way to start off the meal. I had the Branzino which was cooked how I like it, with the perfectly seasoned and crispy skin and delicate meat. For dessert I had their version of the Baked Alaska (pictured here)! It was definitely a decadent dessert which could be shared. I walked away full and happy. Oh, and the view was stunning. I would go again for drinks at night and on a clearer day. Ok, so it helped that someone else was treating. So, it's easy for me to give The Rainbow Room five stars but from a purely overall experience, I think it deserves five stars. In late September/early October, make a reservation for a month ahead (best time for peak foliage views, see pics). This is not necessary in a Babbo kind of way, but you need time to prepare. Now, check your bank account: Are you rich? If yes, go to (b); if no, jump to (c). (b) OK moneybags, think of this month as training. The goal? Stretch out your stomach as much as possible so as to maximize your stamina on RRD (Rainbow Room Day). For the 3 Saturdays prior to RRD, you have brunch at Balthazar, Golden Unicorn for Dim Sum and Clinton St Baking Co, and Bubby's, Norma's and Pastis on Sundays. Nice job! Have you been hospitalized with coronary artery disease? If yes, go to (d); if no, jump to (e) (c) I'm sorry you're so poor. But you're going to feel like a queen/king if you can just manage to save your pennies this month, so here's the deal: No brunch for a month. In fact, no going out to eat at all this month! Two words: Top Ramen. You're going to blow over $100 on RRD (Rainbow Room Day), so you need to save save save! Now, have you been ostracized from your social circles due to a month of non-brunching? The buffet spins so you don't have to work so hard to get your shrimp cocktail, sushi, steak, custom omelette, vanilla bean french toast...it never ends. Take a break, walk around, and then go back for 2nds, 3rds and 4ths! Once you're tired of savory, hit up the dessert bar for fresh crepe suzettes (fire!), chocolate-covered strawberries, pies, cakes mini mousse cups...stuff yourself silly! You earned it! Been to the rainbow brunch a few times before they reduced the buffet variety by half and increased the price from $95 to $125 per person. The entrees were memorable-less. I was totally disappointed by the food. An obvious downsize that even a kid can tell the difference and challenge his dad. No more macaroons, which are replaced by Walmart square shaped cake with kindergarten level decoration. No more iberico ham, which is replaced by a bacon station. Seriously? $125 per person for a dog food bacon stand is pretty shocking. The funny thing was that someone on duty was cutting the bacon as if it were prime ribs. I thought a ham station was pretty bad. A bacon station was beyond creative. I was even looking around to see if there were hidden cameras that people were observing my reaction on a April fool show. The dog food was paired up well with the non existing waiter who was as mysterious as James Barbour in phantom of opera less the voice. The waiter only came twice to our table during our 2-hour visit. Our plates piled up as if I were about to perform board breaking in my karate class. He should have wore a half mask to avoid being stalked in the dark. As many yelpers mentioned, we are willing to pay double the price to get the "old" brunch back. I feel humiliated by paying $30 more for the dog food and the "phantom" service. I came here for Sunday brunch the day after Valentine's day. My bf and I had reservations for 230pm but arrived early. We sat in the waiting area/bar and enjoyed the breathtaking views of our beautiful city. We were seated by the window. Although the view was beautiful, I constantly felt a gush of wind on my back. Since I checked my coat downstairs, it was quite uncomfortable. Service was very meh. I definitely was expecting better service. I had to wave someone down for more coffee a few times and our coffee was never hot. Always below room temperature. Definitely didnt help with the cold. Our plates and utensils was constantly cleared but no one ever came back to refill our utensils. Thankfully there was chopsticks by the sushi counter so i grabbed some for the rest of my meal. For $95/pp, I had high expectations. My expectations was almost met until they ran out of lobster. I saw lobster by the roast station once i got there but since I'm thinking this isn't one of the buffets where they run out of stuff, I didn't go straight to it. Highlights: We took our time going through station by station. I started with some breakfast items and chicken pot pie. Chicken pot pie with truffle was absolutely amazing. I really wanted to go for seconds but had to save room for everything else. Egg station is definitely something you cant skip. I had mushrooms with truffle oil, chroizo, poached egg and fresh shaved black truffle. Wow. This station itself was worth it for me. I went back for the same thing but this time adding grits and bacon. The chefs/cooks on the buffet lines were extremely helpful and friendly. Another station that was interestingly delicious was the choices of cured meats, different terrains, exotic cheeses and every type of bread/crackers you can dream of. Lastly, dessert. I love the ratio of different fresh fruits and pastries. The banana pudding was absolutely delicious. I had 3!! Homemade meringue, cookies, chocolates, macarons and freshly made crepes right infront of you.. too bad i just couldn't eat any more. I recommend that if you decide to brunch here, take your time. I read some of the reviews before i came and i agree. Enjoy yourself and try a little of everything. Try something you never tried before. I stayed for a total of 2.5 hours and I was stuffed. Overall, I had a great brunch. I wouldn't guarantee that I'll never be back but its definitely not on my list to try again. I would recommend it everyone to try it atleast once. I came with a few friends to grab a drink and see the sunset from the roof top. Sometimes they do not let you go in if you don't meet the dress code which is business casual. 20 dollar is not cheap but it is worth it if you chat and enjoy the view for a few hours. You can see the central park from here too. The drinks here are actually pretty good. I got a spatini which is a bit strong but refreshing too with the cucumber and lime. The diablo (demon in French) just resembles the name, really strong flavors yet very interesting. Mama rose is the safe option for those dont like drinking too much as well. It is more sweet and light. You do have to stand for the whole time unless you reserve for a table though. read more

So I made reservations months in advance for my parents anniversary requesting a specific table. We got there early & they gave us a different table. We asked for the original table but they said it was reserved for a larger party. The table say empty for most of our dinner but they ended up seating smaller parties. I visited the Rainbow Room on Sunday for my birthday. I was really impressed. The service was very good and personal (after 2 hours when I left the host referred to me by name to check I enjoyed my meal). The atmosphere is great and it was such a sunny day so it was lovely to look out of the window at the view. The restaurant felt like a very luxurious experience. I thought the food was great, so much on offer to choose from and I felt like they had thought of everything. I think my favorite was the roast station, the lamb was amazing and the Yorkshire puddings and selection of vegetables. I also loved the pastries and desserts. There was so much choice I had about 3 plates of dessert. They had ice cream and toppings and a chef making crepes! The only station I was unsure of was the eggs station, it was a bit unclear on how it worked and what eggs you could get and it was never manned by a server when I passed to be able to ask. The entertainment was good as some background noise. You would miss it if nobody was singing and playing, it added to the whole atmosphere. I had read reviews about people not being given more cutlery, we did not experience this at all and it was constantly replenished. The only negative aspect was that when I made the booking I was asked if it was a special occasion and I advised it was my birthday & my husband also advised this when confirming the booking a few days before we went. I saw about 6 people with small 'birthday cakes' dessert with a candle, including the table next to us. Disappointingly I was not given a cake and candle! And I wasn't going to ask for one, but it would have been nice if they ask if it is a special occasion that they then acknowledge it!! Also, another point we were unsure of whether to tip the obliged 20%, as at a restaurant, as it is a buffet and you are serving yourself! My wife made great effort to get a reservation for sunday brunch at the rainbow room there is a reason why it took several calls to secure the time for our reservation due to the popularity of the location. The food and service match the top of the world decor. The buffet had many delicious opitions from seafood bar to crepe station. Also you can order entrees for cook to order items. Chicken pot pie with a flakey puff crust covering a creamy chicken and mushroom morsels make this dish taste like not ordinary pot pie. The Sunday Brunch here is definitely a phenomenal experience with the historic venue, breathtaking views and the extensive brunch selection. My husband and I were especially impressed by the foie gras station, fresh truffles, Serrano ham, and lobster thermidor. The servers and staff were all very pleasant. We paced ourselves as there were so many items to choose from and taste. We ordered Pinot Gris, iced teas and coffee. Our beverages went very well with our food. We recommend a visit here for brunch if you are in New York. It's definitely a worthwhile experience. Leonardo Di Caprio was even dining next to us with his family. We will be back.
