Raintree has an amazing catalog of traditional, native, and exotic plants for mail order, many of which you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else. They ship promptly, and the plants (at least the ones I bought) arrive in shredded phone books! Awesome : ) The thimble berries I bought there last year are thriving, and I just bought some more, which will be arriving shortly. As far as the one 2-star review from Josh F... he writes "their catalog is awesome, their products are awesome (like 5 star awesome)" , and then gives it a 2 star review because "the place is a long ways out", and "we weren't in prime ordering season but they had very little to actually see"? My wife and I visited the nursery today. After being ignored in the Garden shop, we started looking around the greenhouse behind the shop. We looked at the display trees near the entrance. Still nobody was around. We then walked across the parking lot to the orchard that scions are taken from. Still nobody. I saw in one of the greenhouses a load of soil mixture and went to see what it consisted. An employee came out and told me that the greenhouses are for employees only. I asked what was in the mixture. She told me that she didn't know, she didn't order it and walked quickly back to her office. With such lack of customer service, we left. We will NEVER come back, order, or buy anything from Raintree. Our backyard orchard, garden and landscaping would be better purchased from someone with real customer service. read more

Never again. Bought over $450 worth of apple trees and paid extra for 5-6 foot trees. There was nothing that was over 3 feet. They said roots counted as measurements. Called and said they weren't doing well in June, even though we have a large orchard and everything was planted correctly, fed, and had it's own drip line irrigation. They said give them time. Called Sept and said I missed the July 1 cut off. Lost several expensive tiny trees they won't credit or replace. Walk away. Buy local. read more

Not enough space to tell how poor this nursery is. i purchased ten fruit trees from four different nurseries. Sky in Seattle, Home Depot, a small nursery in Shelton, and three trees from Raintree. The three from Raintree were all barefoot and were selected by their staff. Customers were not allowed to view the tree selection. All three were planted immediately, as were the other seven. The Puget Gold apricot struggled from the beginning. I contacted Raintree and was advised to do a scratch test, look for green, and wait since I saw green. I expressed concern that my guarantee coulid run out if I waited too long. I was advised that I had plenty of time. Ultimately, the tree died as did a combination cherry. The third tree, a combination plum, is hanging on after two years but is in sad shape with at least one graft dead. When I contacted Raintree, within the prescribed time, I was told the guarantee had run out. After a long discussion during which I was told they were under new ownership and guarantee periods had been reduced, I was told I would receive a credit for the trees. As it was now June I knew I would have to wait until at least January to replace the two dead trees. I contacted then in January and placed an order for exactly what had died. I then learned for the first time that I had only been credited at 50%. Again, after along discussion I was told I would be contacted by a manager. Three calls by me later I was still trying to talk with anyone in authority. Finally I received a message from the owner. I returned his call the same day and again and again and again. He never returns the calls. I was originally promised that trees that did not survive the first year would be replaced. Now I was being told I would receive half of what I paid even though prices had greatly increased in the TWO YEARS they have dragged this out. Something is seriously wrong when a Home Depot tree does better than a nursery tree. I spent far more time on this than anyone reasonably should have. At this point I don't even want their partial credit. My only hope is that they lose a lot of business as a result of my review. Go to Sky. Better selection, better service, similar prices, and they stand behind their products. Raintree's motto should be: take the money and hide. I would call them weasels except that would be insulting to weasels. In closing I would suggest they change their name from Raintree to Deadtree. read more

I ordered 50 apple rootstock from them. When they finally arrived there were only 13. The shipped was almost double what I received in root stock. Never a phone call or an email about a second selection. Nothing. So now it's too late in the season to graft and I'm short 37 trees. Great. Raintree nursery is a pile of crapola , I wonder if the people who work at Raintree no anything about trees. I order some tree which I was told would be small and bareroot. I 4 foot trees that where sheared off. I an employee at Raintree nursery would the limbs grow back which were cut , she replied she did not know and would have to ask the horticulture specialist? ROFL I call my 8 year old niece would is into planting and she knew the answer. I was told I would receive small trees, bare root, the I could stick in a small pot that would grow ok for years. And what did I receive. 4 foot sheared off trees.. The lady at Raintree nursery told the were originally 10 foot. It took a pot of a base of 48 inches to contain the tree. The roots were so thick the could not even be centered. A pot that size at any nursery would run 60 to 100 dollars. Heard nothing beyond "we received your order" the day that I placed it. Four weeks later, I emailed them and asked "where is my order". No response. Then, I called and requested information. Well, I should know how poor the weather has been in Morton WA for shipping. Ummm, no, they, perhaps should have checked my mailing address. I was promised the order "next week". I am so glad I took the time to drive all the way from Olympia out to this place. It is kind of a haul to get here. Usually I "settle" for plants that are available closer at the nurseries in town, but Raintree really has far superior products, selections and prices. You can mail order from Raintree Nursery and skip the drive, but I wanted to buy so much stuff, the shipping was actually more expensive than the gas I would spend driving out there. So, I drive all the way out here on a lovely gray rainy Sunday afternoon. I'm not expecting much, having seen plenty of nurseries in late winter with their gray and brown palettes. I mean, I can bear the emotional turnmoil of buying bare root sticks and hoping to get berries from them some day. But Raintree is actually it's own sort of world, and despite the wintery, wet grossness, it was kind of magical to visit. There is a cute little gift shop stocked with "things to buy for your mom when she retires," a huge selection of accessories for native pollinators (like mason bees!), fertilizers from black lake organic (way to support the local genius pool!!!!) and a little reading area with a big table and various books for reference, reading and purchase. There was one greenhouse open to the public, and about a dozen or more that were closed to the public. I spent about an hour in that little greenhouse, appreciating the warm air and wayward bumblebees and picking out my gallon-sized blueberry bushes and admiring the citrus and tropical plants in their warm, humid micro-room. It was delightful. Wandering around all the varieties of weird plants, I feel like I actually learned a lot. Also, they have a discount section in the back with ever-changing selections of "less beautiful" specimens for great discounts - this is an excellent stop if you don't care that much about a specific variety , or if you are on a tight budget and love to rescue struggling plants. Outside, there were a bunch of balled root trees heeled into sawdust, and I imagine this selection changes a lot through the year. There are some awesome gardens where they are growing grape vines and kiwi varieties - are they testing them or just showing off? I don't know. There is a beautiful belgian fence - made from criss crossed espaliered fruit trees of many varieties. I placed my order with one of the helpful, friendly, charming register people, and within 15 minutes a super sweet dude brought everything from the warehouse directly to my car in the parking lot. Mega bonus points for not making me schlep everything out myself! I don't want to bore you with infinite tales of how I abused the plants I bought from them, but let's just say despite my best efforts to kill them, they are not only surviving - they are actually thriving. I was definitely pleased with the selection and quality of product. I have comparision shopped extensively, and I cannot find better prices for the quality of plants I bought from Raintree. I will most definitely be back in a serious way. I have heard rumors of a sale in the fall, and I have every intention of draining my retirement fund and blowing it all on alpine strawberries, aronia, goumi, serviceberries, sea buckthorn, tea plants, horseradish, mushrooms, hardy kiwis and dwarf filbert trees. read more

Yes, it is over the river(s) and through the woods and on to your grandmas house to get here, but IMO its worth the drive! They have a very interesting selection of stuff that you wont find at your normal nursery, I would HIGHLY recommend though calling first if your looking for a certain item that is not every day thing you find at your local Home Deppe or Lowes- they even have stuff you wouldn't think would be here in the Northwest! (like cactus! really? Cactus? And bamboos? really?) The other thing, no internet connection lol, because your in ten buck twenty! So couldn't check in here. That being said, I did find a couple strawberry plants I got, a white Strawberry and a Yellow one- interesting...., and while they didn't had the Evergreen Huckleberry I wanted, they had the red Huckleberry so got that, and was tempted to get a Lingonberry and a Gooseberry- maybe next time Im here??? maybe? Overall, I would recommend this place, but like I said, if your looking for something unusual and dont want to make a trip to make a trip, call first! read more

I drove all the way to pick up my trees, they didn't let me to chose the trees, instead they brought me out the trees from storage facility. The trees are in pretty bad condition, the bark scratched, covered with mud, and some branches are with deep wounds, some buds are broken off. read more

I ordered six grape vines on March 18th. After a couple weeks I called to see what happened to my order. I got an explanation that the weather had been so extreme that they wouldn't be able to ship until mid April. Ok, whatever. Now mid April has come and gone and when I called to see what the problem was I was told that they were busy shipping orders all over the country and that mine wouldn't be shipped until the 29th of the month. So, I guess I know how I rate in their priorities. My next phone call will be to ask for a refund. Raintree was a much better business seven or eight years ago. Their variety looked amazing and I ordered over $200 worth of trees and shrubs. That was on March 11th. The website has said pending since then. They did take the money right away though - but to date no plants. I e-mailed. No response. I called and was told my order is pending somewhat rudely - nothing else...it's been almost a full month - no updates, no communication from them. I order from online nurseries all the time. I receive my plants and updates. This is the first time from Raintree. It's also the last time. I'm surprised when looking at the positive reviews... how long did those clients have to wait? Did they get communication?? The bad reviews mirror my experience. I wish I had read these and taken them to heart. It's not a pleasant experience having to dispute this charge and having to go through the ordeal. Raintree is a gamble - you may end up with what you order...or not. Great selection but beware of the products. I got a windmill palm that had the main spear totally rotted out. Gravity was the only thing holding it in place. Also the eucalyptus I ordered was so rootbound that there was hardly a speck of dirt left in the pot. The lady I talked to was very friendly and replaced the palm and was willing to refund the money for the euc so I must compliment her on that. I picked raintree because they listed good rootstocks for their fruit trees. I also called their customer service to learn that bare-root fruit trees are 3 years old and 3 to 5 ft tall. However the persimmon that I order was a 30 inch twig that appeared to be just one year from grafting. It may have been dead when shipped, because I quickly and carefully planted it only to find it was completely lifeless a month later. They had no replacement to send. But instead of giving me a refund, they gave me a store credit that I can use with them to re-order this persimmon next year! And I would have to pay additional shipping. Extremely Pleased Frankly, I have ordered plants and bareroot stock from many many online nurseries, including almost all of the major ones, and it is generally a very mediocre experience, at best. Plants generally arrive poorly packed, dry, dead or nearly dead, and much smaller than promised. That is why I am so pleased with Raintree Nursery. I ordered a bareroot blueberry plant, variety AURORA, since no one sells Aurora around here. I ordered it in early May and it was delivered in late May, so both the order and the delivery were late in the year for our Zone 6. Because of the lateness, I expected them to send me scraggly, picked over stock, and I thought it would probably arrive in poor shape and not do well, but I wanted to try. Was I ever surprised. The plant, when it came, was very strong, beautiful and full of life. The packing was excellent, the roots were moist, and I soon moved it into my garden where it is doing very well. Truthfully, I would have been pleased if it had arrived in half the condition it did. Based on this experience, I rate them very highly. Unlike some of the large, national mail order companies, Raintree Nursery really seems to care. read more

I have a few dozen fruit trees/bushes from them. The only tree that came DOA was a walnut tree and after a summer of hoping it would grow I called the company and their manager was able to find my order and credit me for the amount I paid for the dead tree on my next order. I am now the proud owner of a Meyer Lemon tree. It's a five foot tall house plant that has two lemons and three dozen blossoms. The lemon tree blossoms smell amazing. All my trees arrived dormant and bare roots. They are very good at sending email when plants are delayed or died prior to shipping. They even have ups send updates on delivery times, which is important since you can order fruit trees months ahead of shipping. read more

Be sure if you purchase anything at Raintree to have it replaced before their 1yr warranty period is up. Be sure to note that the 1yr warranty does NOT begin when they arrive, but when you place your order - making it more like a 6-10mo warranty. I purchased to fruit trees, not-inexpensive mind you, and they did not leaf out despite looking strong. I apparently waited just a couple weeks too long in the spring to decide they weren't going to bud out and Raintree was unwilling to replace my trees. I would give it 0 stars if I could. read more

They finally arrived 11 May and only 2/3 of the plants I ordered arrived, the remainder were now "not available". However, my shipping costs were still the same, making them pretty expensive plants. back in about April 2018 i ordered two fruit trees from this company i paid for the cost of the trees and i paid for the cost of S&H to this company and it say's on it web site that their trees are guaranty to start growing or your money back well that's not the truth at all it's a lie this company is a bunch of thieves to me as one of their customer first and last time, when it came to my ordering from it, again i placed the order online in about April of 2018 and received the fruit trees in about sometime June of 2018 one of the fruit trees look like it will have no problem taking off the other look like it was less than the diameter of a normal regular cloth hanger (not the heavy duty one) when i received it i call this company on the same day within minutes of this tree getting to my door step and this company still said it will grow and all you have to do sir is just plant it and water it, it well start off growing it never did anything i mean NOTHING and raintree nusery would not uphold their guaranty growth after i email and sent photos and yes i sent photos to this company again, do not buy any fruit trees from this company because they will steal from you by not going by their own words "we guaranty growth" or your money back "we will make it right" that's a lie and this company is a bunch of crooks, as for the other tree the jury is still deliberating read more

The quality is good. I have ordered a lot of different trees and bushes and they all survived. Some bushes were too tiny almost nothing and it is easy to smash. I have no complaints at all. The plants come well packed and in good condition. Ordered grafted grape plants 2 years ago. about 1 /4 of the grafts failed and I got rootstock growth instead (which I noticed when the grapes came on). Wrote email to their horticulturist who never responded. Called "customer service" rep who was very officious and unhelpful. Even said that "it is common knowledge" that you must check the growth for below-graft growth so Raintree won't honor warranty. Very poor service; recommend not purchasing plants from them. read more

Top notch. I wish every nursery was like this. They have a selection of unusual trees and plants you can't find else where. I was looking for Medlar trees. Not only they have them, but in so many varieties. They had a special if you ordered 5 which I did. I was going to ship 2 of them to my mother. The prices were so good, I couldn't resist. They emailed me right away and told me due to their busy ordering season, it would be another month before I get them which was fine. I appreciated theheads up. Then I took a chance and called them a week after placing my order and asked them if they would split my order and send my 2 of them to my mom directly if I paid for the additional shipping fees. They said "No problem". They were so flexible and understanding. I was over the moon. Then my trees came and I was so amazed how professionally they were packaged. They were super healthy and much larger than I expected - 4-5 feet high trees. Now two months later, all of my trees have bloomed and are doing great. Wish I had known about them sooner.
