However, the bakery itself was rather crowded with some picking up an order while others waiting patiently for their food. I went for the tuna sandwich but opt'ed for sourdough instead of rye. The tuna was pretty good, with a reasonably seasoned fish and not too much mayo. The sourdough was toasted and held up well. The butterscotch cookie was fairly chewy and soft, though perhaps a tad too sweet for my taste. Check-in on Yelp and you'll get a free "pastry", so I can't complain too much with a free cookie. With a sandwich, free cookie, and a drink, I paid nearly $10, which wasn't too bad with the cookie. The decor is clean and a bit cutesy, without it inducing a vomiting posture. Like many writers here, the wait time is longer than other equivalent places. Fortunately I didn't have any more pressing matters that day, so I could afford a check on fb...or two checks.

When we walked in they said they were closed. (I hadn't looked online) but they gave us Shrimp cocktail, clam chowder and a bonus fish stew, I've never tried that before and it was AMAZING! I was shocked when they told us it was on the house. This feels like a pay it forward moment that I won't forget after feeling so sad about the experience down the street and having my kids be so hungry after a Long Beach day. Then if I want anything else I have to get up and go to a different station to place my order. And THENNNN...when I have to leave my table yet again to pay my tab, you show me a screen for 18%, 20%, 25% tip. This is the most bizarre system I have ever experienced. If you're gonna charge me that, I want a linen table cloth, a real candle and not to leave my seat. You can barely see the bay unless you have one of the few tables along the water. Attentive and friendly service. Worst customer experience for that price point, like, the absolute worst.

Since I never received a response, it seemed wise to post here so that other buyers can be vigilant in their shopping. I've been to the store a handful of times. These guys carry great products and seem to be excited and knowledge about their offerings. Many products do have quite the markup, so if that's an issue for you, be aware when you're buying. I am generally forgiving of the markups because I like to support small businesses, and the brands are high quality. My current feedback for customers is to carefully make sure to check the expiration dates. When my partner and I were in last Wednesday (August 5, 2020), we put quite a few items back on the shelves before check out because they were either expired or a day or two from expiring. Unfortunately, I grabbed a few bars of my favorite brands of chocolate and missed the dates. 3 out of the 4 bars I purchased were bad - chalky, separated, and turned. One of the bars had expired in APRIL 2020. Very disappointing. My advice: be prepared to allot extra time in your trip to carefully check the dates on the products (and the prices, too, as many of the items are not tagged with a price). Great stuff and a cool place... just with some unfortunate inventory issues at the moment.

Staff was friendly, helpful and polite, despite not having what I needed, and even pointed me to where he thought I should go. Would definitely come back for health/vitamin related needs, check this place out in person, if you're part of that demographic.
