Wow, what can I say. I feel so grateful we pulled in here after a not so good night at another restaurant down the road (we didn't get our food after waiting 45 minutes for it)... my kids were STARVING. When we walked in they said they were closed. (I hadn't looked online) but they gave us Shrimp cocktail, clam chowder and a bonus fish stew, I've never tried that before and it was AMAZING! I was shocked when they told us it was on the house. This feels like a pay it forward moment that I won't forget after feeling so sad about the experience down the street and having my kids be so hungry after a Long Beach day. Solid 4 stars for the fresh tasty fried seafood and the oysters I had were some of the very best. The fries were disappointing and not cooked crispy as I had ordered but even if they had been it wouldn't have made a difference I'm afraid. The coleslaw was a mystery, hardly a perceptable trace of dressing, seems that it was batch prepared and should have been stirred up as the dressing might have settled to the bottom. If that isn't the case take it off the menu as it was deplorable. This place features excellent seafood but their sides need a lot of work, compared to the competition. read more

My sister and I had been out hiking and were quite hungry! Snug Harbor was technically not open but the owner; I think her name is Dianna, whipped us up some tremendous crab cakes and salad, thanks a million! The were totally delicious, In addition, I bought a bowl of their salmon chowder to take home to Westborough with me and it was the best soup I think I've ever had; I was expecting a cream base but felt EVER so much better with the veggies and the extra fish and potatoes, no cream in sight! Made our annual trip to Duxbury, which would not be complete without a trip to Snug Harbor. We were only in town for a few days this visit so wasn't sure we would make it but we managed the grab lunch here in our way back to the airport in Boston. I had been hoping for scallops but they weren't on the menu this day so I went with the whole belly clams...Yum! I have eaten here a number of times over the past five years and have never been disappointed. This year they upped the ante on customer service. It was starting to rain and all of their seating is outdoor (it is essentially a fish market with a kitchen) but one of their staff had pulled a table in to eat their lunch. When he saw we were planning to stay there to eat, he got up grabbed an extra chair and finished his meal elsewhere. They are now at a super strong 4.5 stars leaning into that fifth. read more

Food is really good. We ordered the swordfish sandwich, crab cake sandwich and dozen oysters. All were delicious and the swordfish were juicy and tender. Probably rhe best swordfish I've ever had. Customer service was ok, reason for 4 stars is because I asked for everything in my sandwich but they forgot the cheese, which is like THE selling point... since we order take out, we didn't bother to go back to fix the order. They don't have a restroom for customers and wouldn't let my partners 75 year old mother use the staff one. Even if this is just an off season thing, it's unacceptable to not have proper facilities for guests. The cold lobster roll was a big portion but had 0 flavor or seasoning. The slaw was big pieces of cabbage and apple with also very little care or seasoning. I had the scallops which were grilled and good, but nothing special. The oysters come with premade cocktail sauce and a lemon slice, no minionet or anything to add. Genuinely could be better food and a nicer experience all around. read more

I've been here a couple times before in the past and they really have fresh lobster and steamers and it's really a very ideal place in duxbury especially for locals and visitors. Never had a bad experience seems to be a nice family business and I enjoyed my lobster roll that was accompanied by both grilled vegetables and coleslaw. The coleslaw was amazing had nice cranberry and apple bits to it I just really enjoyed that as a salad. I highly recommend coming here for the nice duxbury seafood experience. read more

Paid $36 for a sad lobster roll that was worth about $10. It was tiny. It tasted good but come on, the price was absurd for what it was. Then there was the seafood stew special. Snug Harbor is the last of the fishmongers in Duxbury, and it serves by far the best steamers, lobster, chowder -- well, everything! The fish and seafood are super fresh. Go for whatever requires the least prep, though they are good with the fryer, too. You'll wish you were a mermaid living in Duxbury Bay. You can dine on the patio or pick up an order to go, but there's nothing like the patio, the other people there, the wine shop and French Memories next door, and of course, all the boats and the bay just around the corner. A good place to get a quick bite, good fresh seafood. However, do not let little kids play with your lobsters like they are toys. As the mom was making a purchase, a young boy was allowed to play with a lobster on the floor. The lobster seemed extremely uncomfortable as the boy poked and prodded at it. After the mom finished paying, the lobster was returned. Disgusting in my opinion. That really turned me off to this place. It's a shame because the food was really good. read more

Crab cake BLT w/ "coleslaw" and a lobster roll w/ grilled veggies. Decent sized bun for the BLT. Very thick bacon on the sandwich. Crab cake itself was maybe about 3 1/2 inches round and about an inch thick. Side of Remoulade sauce. Bacon and crab cake were very salty. Crab cake had no flavor other wise. Was hoping for some garlic in the cake. Remoulade had little to no flavor. Would have loved a bit of some sort of bite. The "Cole slaw" was more like iceberg lettuce w/watered down mayo. As for the lobster roll, it had a decent amount of lobster meat, but it did not look like claw meat. The grilled veggies were ok. These two items and a bottle of water came to $52.00. No public bathrooms. Staff working did wear masks and were friendly. The wait time for our lunch was maybe 10 minutes if that. Overall, it was ok. read more

yet another south shore staple makes the slow descent into mediocrity. My order was the bbq salmon sandwich, a sandwich I've had hundreds maybe thousands of times. As I've come to expect, the salmon was fresh and nicely grilled, the same cannot be said about the stale untoasted bun. One flaw , no big deal, until I got to the fries... dangerously under seasoned. These Cajun fries were less seasoned than the average crinkle cut freezer fry. 2 flaws, and major ones at that, I hope this trend doesn't continue, or yet another excellent spot will descend to mediocrity. read more

I was in Duxbury briefly, and my original plan was to grab some oysters at Island Creek. With them being unexpectedly closed by the FDA, I was at a loss for what to do. We asked one of the manager over there for an alternative, and this is what he recommended. Given how close it was, the ratings on here, and the fact that a manager at one of the best oyster farms in the country recommended it, we were in. Snug Harbor is right the corner from a number of docks, next to a conveniently place beer/wine store and a few shops. There are a few tables available on a front patio if you want to eat there, otherwise you're getting food to go; using them strictly as a seafood market is an option as well. The place isn't huge, with 2 big lobster tanks as you walk in, a kitchen in the back, and a display case with the fish, crabs, and other sea critters they have available that day. Other than the quality of the food, what makes this place remarkable is the 2 women who run it. They are absolute sweethearts, and very knowledgeable about their seafood. One of them even showed me how to schuck oysters. This place seemed perfect, and luckily their food measured up. We got 4 oysters as a small starter. I'm a huge fan of Island Creek oysters which are farmed in Duxbury, but they are currently closed due to some BS with the FDA. Thus, Snug was carrying Wellfleets (also local) in their stead. I had Wellfleets previously and thought they were lame. However, FDA be damned: I was in Duxbury, and I was going to eat some freaking oysters. These Wellfleets were great, not far off the Island Creeks. Nice and briny, with a buttery body to them. For my main, I got the fried platter with fish (haddock), scallops, and whole clams. This plate was absolutely amazing--and large. Best thing on the plate bar none were the scallops, which were pretty transcendent. They were on the smaller sized, not overly breaded, and were as rich as any other scallop I've had. The consistency of the meat was perfect and they were bursting with flavor. The haddock was great, a little heavier than cod but I enjoyed it thoroughly. A good piece of fried fish cannot be understated. The whole bellies made me realize why so many people covet these back in NY in lieu of just strips, as you can't find them there. A whole fried clam is pretty damned great. The plate also came with fries, which were good and made better by the added old bay helped spruce them up a bit; there was a little bit of cabbage with rosemary too. My friend had gotten a similar plate, except with clam strips and fried shrimp; both of these were excellent as well, particularly the juicy shrimp. Overall this was an epic plate of food for ~$22, with no tartar sauce or anything else needed! I'd happily eat here weekly if I lived at least anywhere remotely close. Unfortunately I don't, but next time I'm back in the area, this is where I will be. This is an absolutely top notch seafood shack. read more

After a lovely day on Duxbury Beach, my friend and I headed out along Washington Street to find Snug Harbor Fish Co., where she remembered having some killer stuffed quahogs years ago. They were amazing, especially at under $5 each - although unfortunately they were stuffed with pork, which I don't eat. Luckily, we also ordered their seafood stew, which was incredible - a savory brew of scallops, clams, rice, corn and tomatoes in a buttery, salty broth. So I had plenty to eat. This place is a classic fish shack, with a small kitchen, a few outdoor tables in front, and an enormous 2-tier lobster tank where enormous red crustaceans roamed in the shallow, cold water. The glass case in front displayed white shrimps ready for the peeling and long cuts of fresh pink salmon, which my friend said looked good enough to eat raw. Note: for those who don't dig seafood, they also have chicken, and I think there may be one or two veggie items. But for more options, you can also go next door to "French Memories", which says it serves sandwiches and soups and such. They were closed today, but dammn the desserts looked good. There's also a wine store nearby. Between those 3 spots, you've got the makings of a great beach trip afterparty. I'm sure I'll be making this little strip a regular stop when I come to the South Shore beaches. Next time though, I'm skipping the quahogs and going for the crabcakes - only $3.95 each! read more

After enjoying Duxbury Beach all day on Saturday (read: sleeping in the sun to ensure my sunburn was brutal), I needed some chow. A friend suggested we hit up Snug Harbor Fish Company. What a great complement to a great beach day. I had clam strips, clam chowder, and fries. My fiancee had their lobster roll, and my friend had some oysters and a lobster roll, as well. It was all awesome, but I want to highlight a few things: 1. The lobster roll was the best I've had anywhere. Not being a Boston native, I've made it a point to find the best versions of local favorites that I would never find had I stayed in the midwest. This lobster roll is just nuts: Perfectly buttered split-top roll, heaps of fresh lobster, green onion, very little mayo, some lemon, and a bit of tarragon, perhaps. This was a lobster roll, not a lobster salad roll that's chock full of mayo and/or celery and stuff, and it was great. 2. The clam chowder was also my favorite to date. A two-fer! Holy guacamole, Snug Harbor, you done it! Seriously though, it was the perfect chowder, in my opinion: thick, nice clam to potato ratio, the clam pieces were large and firm, and it was clean. No sand, no gross junk you don't wanna eat. Dynamite flavor, too. Rich, salty, clammy, but not funky in the slightest. Just clean seafood taste. The people who work here seem to be real gems, too. Very friendly and helpful. This is also a fish market and small quasi-vegetable market, too, and I enjoyed watching the insanely rich women of Duxbury spend $4 on a tomato (one tomato) and god-knows-how-much on a bunch of asparagus. More power to 'em though. I may never live in Duxbury, but when I visit, this will be my joint. read more

Up from New York City for a three-day trip, we were looking for the local famed and affordable seafood. This place is IT! The food was so delicious we had to come a second time before going back to New York. The swordfish sandwich is a MUST buy! It comes with Gruyere cheese, Bermuda onions and homemade fries with Old Bay on the side. It was so delicious I had dreams about it. The "select" lobster (which we had twice) was the tastiest lobster we ever had. Juicy and full, dripping in flavorful fats. Each bite held a range of sea flavors that exploded in my mouth. An absolutely exceptional lobster I would recommend it to anyone. We also had the salmon sandwich which came marinated in a tasty sauce. The clam chowder soup was solid. Incredibly, this wonderful meal was cheaper that the green harbor lobster pound and had a much more comfortable setting. My life has been changed forever. Everything I ever knew about fried fish sandwiches has been a lie. Actually fried fish in general now seems new and exciting and I'm sitting here wondering why have I shied away from it in the past. I didn't know that you could actually make a sandwich taste lighter and fresher by simply using a light coting of batter and frying fresh fish to absolute perfection. Add some lemon, some veggies and cheese? did I imagine a white soft cheese. It all blended so well. The fries had old bay at least and seemed to also be packed with other herbs and flavors and they were cooked nice and crispy. I went in because we always go into French Memories when we are down there so decided to try the fish. We were surprised that inside there is only a 3 seat counter, it is basically a fish market that serves meals. There were two of us, and it was a bit chilly, so we ordered two fish sandwiches and sat at the counter, which looks out at the patio, so it was okay. The woman behind the counter was real nice, down to earth, the best. She took our order and I paid with a credit card. While waiting for our food I checked out the fish for sale and decided to get some, she packed it up and added some ice to the fish would stay cool in the insulated bag I had. I paid for that in cash. Everything was going great until I went to leave. There had been a lot of people in and out to pick up Easter orders. Lots of shrimp going out of there. When I got up to leave the owner, who had been hovering around, went to the cash register flustered, she was checking the tape and talking to that very nice woman to make sure I paid, yes I heard her. The nice woman who had waited on me told her yes, and showed her. She wanted to make sure the card had cleared, yes it had. Can you say MICROAGGRESSION. Summer in New England evokes thoughts of long weekends down the Cape, boating on the Charlies, lobster rolls, and FRIED SEAFOOD. My lunch at Snug Harbor Fish Company blew all of my past fried fish experiences out of the water. I found the Snug Harbor Fish Company using my Yelp app while driving back from the Cape (thanks, guys!). We pulled up to SHFC and were surprised to find that it's basically a high-end seafood store that has a few tables out on the patio. We decided to split a mix & match seafood platter (3 options for $21, I believe) - we went with fried clams, fried scallops, and fish and chips. (Healthy, I know.) OMG IT WAS ALL DELICIOUS. Even the fries were top notch. The tartar sauce comes in a big squirt bottle, which is pretty clutch, not that the food needed anything extra. While we sat and ate, several people (most on a first name basis with the staff) came in and out of the store with nice cuts of fish to prepare at home. I definitely understand why Snug Harbor seems to have such a loyal fanbase - their seafood is super fresh and high quality. I would definitely take a detour to get more fried fish here in the future. read more

I found the crab cake to be on the dry side, although I did like the seasonings in comparison to Jakes in Hull. Jakes crab cake was more creamy although way too lemony tasting. I had a spoonful of the quahog too. It was delicious. That is an item I would go back for if I was going down to the nearby beach. I can't wait to have the rest for lunch tomorrow. read more

Worst seafood meal in a long time. I asked for clam strips tonight. Clearly they either don't have them or didn't know how to make them. It was bunch of small little clam pebbles in the bottom of the box for some typical fried seafood price. Rest the meals we ordered seemed fine but if you don't have something on the menu, just be honest - don't try to fake it. I might have enjoyed my meal more if I had my second choice of something you actually did well. If you actually do think you have clam strips then 2 stars is too much. read more

Ordered the Crab Cake appetizer, a side of seasoned French Fries, and the Native Whole Belly Clams with Cole Slaw. The Crab Cake was incredibly dense (all of the beautiful lump crab completely shredded), and the cake itself was burnt. The French Fries were nothing special and the spice mixture was a little too much. Overall both were very disappointing. The Clams were great, but the Cole Slaw was way too runny. Judging from other reviews, it seems like this experience was an outlier, and I definitely wouldn't let it deter you from trying Snug yourself. read more
