At 33 1/2 wks I was admitted for pre-eclampsia and rushed down to Mary Birch in SD (originally I was planning to go to Loma Linda in Murrieta). Even with the change in plans and schedule Robin was very accommodating. She worked with several of my family members for the pick up and drop off. I believe the turn around time was 2 days. I started taking them right away. Although I have nothing to compare it to because this was my first birth. I believe these pills helped me tremendously, everyone was blown away by how quickly I recovered especially considering I needed a c-section. The pills came packaged in dark glass jars with the directions right on them. And the pills were easy to swallow, they reminded me of my prenatals minus the vitamin flavor. I liked that Megan has experience in all types of births herself (I think two c-sections, two homebirths and one hospital epidural) so I hired her in July 2016 for the home birth of my son in September 2016. She was so very supportive about home birth and helped to assuage my many fears. I went into labor on Saturday night and even though my contractions weren't super close together, I asked her to come that night because I felt like I needed the support. My husband was an amazing birth coach and partner so Megan did a good job of giving us plenty of alone time but also being there to give my husband a break and also give ideas to help relieve pain. Along with my husband, she stayed up with me all night through every contraction. It ended up being a very long labor and I didn't tend to make progress unless I was walking so she was great at encouraging me to get walking so I would progress. After the birth, she stayed around and helped me as I was feeling quite dizzy from blood loss. I also used her placenta service (do this!!!) and got a smoothie, pills and the salve (my skin has seriously never looked so good - I want more but she told me I'll have to have another baby to get more)! I am forever grateful to her for all her support in the most important experience of my life.

I was first greeted by Cristi, the executive director and midwife. She made me feel at ease and made me and my husband feel very comfortable. The birth center itself is in a peaceful community in Fallbrook. It has 3 birth rooms to choose from that are themed differently. I believe I chose the green room which acquired to my liking and it was extremely peaceful. The rooms are a good size and very comfortable. My birth experience was just perfect thanks to my midwife Debbie and the student midwives, Azure and Mel. They were so patient, kind, and so knowledgeable. I believe I met most of the midwives and they are all lovely. I love how you get to do your birth, your way, and the midwives guide you while following your lead. I don't trust traditional hospitals and I would much rather do a holistic birth with midwives, just as it has been done for ages. I would choose Acorn over and over again if I were to have more children. I even had to switch my health insurance just so I could give birth at the center versus a hospital and it was so worth it. It was such a beautiful experience.

I never thought I would ever do a natural birth... but here I am! I will start by saying, natural birth is HARD. I went into my first unmedicated birth not knowing what to expect but I prefer it that way but boy was I determined!!!! Second time around I was nervous, anxious.. all the things! My first experience was great, although after labor I experienced some hemorrhaging. Once staff figured what was wrong they acted fast and I was relieved. It was a little traumatic for me but it didn't taint my experience with Acorn. I came back for round two!!! 2nd time around two years later! I delivered my baby girl on February 20th, my experience from start to end was amazing. During labor the team gives you and your partner space, during those moments were truly special. And probably one of my favorites. I had Cristi Sedona and Kyra for my team! And I would choose the same 3 every-time. Each of them brought a different vibe, but it was a mix that you need on your team! I can't thank them enough for making each experience so special, For me my husband and my family! On the day I went into labor we were in constant communication via text. Once active labor began she came over to my home (with all of her essential oils!) and worked through the contractions with me. She was a strong supporter for me during this intense time! She came with us to the hospital and was right by my side as I delivered my son. We hired her again for our second-born son's delivery and she was with me, again, during active labor and at the hospital. We also saw her for a postpartum visit after each delivery. It's been 2 years since we first hired her and we are still friends. I text her randomly with a question and she is quick to reply! At 34 weeks pregnant we met with Robin and I knew immediately that she would be able to help calm my husband and I during our first delivery. There is something about her, she makes you feel like your meeting with a long lost friend from high school. She supplied us with great resources to prepare for Travis's arrival in a few weeks. She came to visit us at our home and helped me learn stretches, pelvic exercises, comfortable sleep positions, and even soothed our fears that we were missing crucial baby equipment. The night I went into labor I waited till about 10 pm to finally call her, she met us at Escondido and even return with us at 6 am when they sent me home! She was basically awake driving around all night! Once I was finally admitted she was an amazing support person through my 36 hours of labor! I was so nervous I wouldn't be prepared for labor, but after trusting all the advice and labor education Robin had passed on I look back now and think, it really wasn't bad. TV and movies make it seems so horrible, and as I walked around and around the birthing floor I just breathed through every contraction knowing my little guy was one step closer to being in my arms. I was so confident and clam as the process continued, I found out the nursing staff had been watching in awe of how long I was able to continue au natural. Weeks later Robin came to our new home (!) and took our family photos with out new little mancub. I highly suggest that any first time parents, or parents to be in general, seek the support of a doula. It made our birth experience something to embrace and I will always have fond memories.

I did the research and found the absolute BEST midwife I could have ever prayed for. From the very beginning of our journey Christina Sanders made us feel like family. She included everyone in all of the appts, let's just say my 3 year old, Stori, is now a midwife in training. Everything about her and the world of midwifery, let us know we made the perfect decision. It was a very special intimate experience. Though natural labor is excruciatingly painful, being in my own space with my husband and daughter Ahmyiah by my side, along with Christina and Kristen Rud (Midwife in training) it was so peaceful and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. There was less stress, less anxiety, no stupid intake questions that had been answered 100000x before, nobody making you feel incompetent, nobody barking orders. Instead, It was perfect lighting, soothing warm water, Christina reassuring me that I'm doing great and to simply let my body do what it is naturally designed to do, all while surrounded by nothing but love! It's hard to fully describe, just know that it exceeded all of my expectations and I am beyond grateful that I had the opportunity to take this journey with so much love. The postpartum care was unexpected and soooo needed. 1 Day after they came back to check on both of us, bringing me tea and food to assist in the recovery process. Tinctures and herbs to soothe discomfort. 1 week they were back checking on us and providing me with more yummy treats. They even prepared the most beautiful floral/herbal bath for Xo and I to share. It was magical. The GIFTS they made for us OMG if I was a cryer Id have been balling...A couple weeks later I had some weird wacky things going on with my skin, most likely had to do with my liver needing to heal. Christina jumped right in to help me find awesome natural soap for the weird rash and she gave me another tea to help my liver recover, it worked! 6 weeks postpartum we went back to the office for our final check. It was bittersweet, knowing our prenatal journey was over and that would be the last time I'd sit in that office as a pregnant mama. As of today, Xo is 5 months old.
