Very clean and nice Indian grocery store. I sometimes even prefer Raj Grocers to others in Hillcroft because of mad rush stores and the traffic to get there. Store is always clean, the owner is professional, no item or stock is expired, expiry dates are legible, he is honest and doesn't inflate prices. Just a nice clean atmosphere and fresh vegetables too. Pleasant experience. Nothing to wonder about. 5 stars every time. read more

This is my go to place for english groceries. they have a good selection of frozen, sausages, pies, black / white pudding, bacon, etc, all from uk (all the good stuff you need for a proper english fry up). They also stock a good variety of english dry goods. Very nice staff and helpful if you need the help. Prices are what you expect because of the import tax, but not too pricey, alot of the stuff they have is cheaper than the very small selection you get at heb, and also bigger. The only other store I've been to is the British isles store downtown (which is a good store, but can be very pricey), but if like me and you live in the galveston County area and don't want to travel over an hour, this is ideal. This store is immaculate and appropriate Covid prevention measures are followed. If you ever wonder if you are overpaying for spices , grains, nuts, rice, beans (and more) at big box stores, come here and be pleasantly surprised at the price difference as well as products you may not have ventured to try in the past. If you have any questions (and you probably do if you are trying new cuisines) all you have to do is ask. On one of my treks here, I discovered by asking that there is a particular size bulgar grain that best suits tabouli (there sell 3 different sizes of bulgar grains here.) Issue: Samosa craving If you know me at all, when I get a craving, I'm usually going to find a way to make it myself. Problem: spice availability As much fun as it is to buy spices (just me?), the typical grocery store really takes advantage of those who buy spices out of the norm, you'll realize the mark up is sad. To deter your spice acquisition quest, you may run into high prices for minute amounts or in my case, a complete lack of availability. In every grocery store, I typically find myself in the spice aisle to check out what the selection is and prices. Please don't buy any specialty spices at Kroger/HEB/other big box stores. Instead, get out of your comfort zone and explore an Asian/Indian store for better quality, vast selection and especially cheaper prices. Solution: Raj Grocers Walked in and store clerk (Should I call him uncle?) greeted me. I wandered around the bulk spices which had an entire row dedicated to them. Seriously, bulk spices averaging from $1.95 - $3.89. Excellent, which is why you don't buy those anywhere other than these types of stores. Picked out what I needed (just 2 spices). Ringing me up, he asks what I'm making and I tell him samosas. He tells me there is a smaller and cheaper package of garam masala in the back which is what I ended up purchasing instead. He also pointed out some wrappers in the freezer section in case I needed them. (I made my own.) If I ever need more spices, I'll be back. read more

Note: I am not a frequenter of ethnic grocery stores. This place seemed like it had a great selection of spices and ethnic foods, and the other reviews attest to that. They also have a large selection of what I assumed to be Bollywood DVDs and VHS tapes, if that's your thing. They also have British-made Cadbury chocolate, which is far superior to American-made Cadbury. My knowledge of the British Empire in India made me look for them here. See kids, history class isn't a total waste of time. read more

When I need some samosas or mango pulp to make lassi this is my first choice! I like to browse the frozen section for different types of samosas and vegetable-based appetizers. They have a great variety of frozen foods to choose from. I noticed when I was there last week that they have mango icecream. I need to go back and try that! I make mango lassi at home whenever we have curry. Raj Grocers sells mango pulp in cans by the case, which is great for buying in bulk, which is what I like to do. Kesar mango pulp is the best and that is what they sell. They also sell fresh mangos in a box, and the price is great! These are the best mangos I have ever had, and I am really thankful we can buy them at this place which is so close to where we live. I like Raj Grocers also because it is very clean, organized, and easy to shop because all the aisles are clear and everything is easy to see and reach. I highly recommend checking out this place for Indian food and other specialty items for cooking foods from east Asian countries. read more

Selections of spices, teas, import coffees and dried fruits, nuts is great. They also carry various sizes of rice up to 50 lbs? On weekends, you can purchase tasty fresh samosas at the counter! For a small grocery store that specializes in Indo-Pak items they have a nice variety. I've also been very pleased with the staff, always helpful, never pushy. Raj is still the best place in town for Indian spices, etc. I went to Raj on Sunday and asked for some curry mix for goat stew meat and Raj recommended Mothers Recipe Mutton Curry Lamb curry mix. He said it was a "life saver "., just add water. The meal was fantastic! Curry tasted amazing. Thank you. read more

Looking for ingredients for an Indian dish I wanted to try. Of course, Kroger, HEB and Wal-mart were not much help, but I tried this and one other market in the SE Houston area. Raj did the trick. Very clean, well organized, stocked, and they had everything I needed. Prices are reasonable and compared to the big box stores, spice pricing and quality are bargains. My only put offs are the tacky 15 min parking signs with multiple tow-away warnings in front of the store, but they must have problems with one of the neighboring businesses. Staff gave the obligatory greeting and help offer, but did not seem particularly interested in engaging in conversation. Definitely recommended. read more

I have been in Houston since Fall 2010 and have been to various Indian/Asian stores to get Indian food/products that we do not find in the regular stores like Walmart, Sams Club or HEB. I found the prices at Raj grocers to be quite less than at some other Indian stores nearby. I would recommend Raj Grocers to be the ideal place to shop for indian groceries. read more
