Yum! If we go out for Indian food, we usually go to one of the excellent choices in Farmington Hills. But tonight, we were on this side of town. We decided to try Raja Rani as a sentimental choice - the original was in A2 and one of SE MI's first Indian restaurants. And yes, they are related. The whole experience was super! If you want dosa this is the place to go to. Amazing portions and delicious sambar. The Hakka noodles on the other hand were mediocre, lacking spice and the egg had a weird smell to it. This restaurant transferred ownership recently. The new owners opened their place - June 1st. It is a little cozy place in Canton. They started Dosa Buffet night last week and when we went there today the place was packed! Dosa's were good and Unlimited. They are still working on managing the fluctuations in the number of dine ins on the Dosa nights, but I am sure they will come out as winners on the other side soon. Very bad treatment. The girl who answered the phone was rude while talking to me and started screaming and hung up the phone while I was talking because my meal was a very small quantity compared to the special box of sauce. We found this restaurant while looking for a place to have lunch out in Canton and boy did we enjoy. There is lunch buffet on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I felt number of items were less compared to other buffets (I am coming for buffet for 2 years). Appetizers : Tandoori chicken was good, chicken fry was dry and cold, baby corn some was under cooked Thalapakkati mutton biryani and Lamb Rogan josh were the things that was really good. Vegetarian items had steamed rice, daal and uthappam, naan, curd rice. Naan was dry and crispy. I felt that is also not up to par. This I noticed only at the time of writing review. I was charged $15.99 per person even though their ad shows $14.99. Either ad is wrong or I am overcharged. There were only two high chairs and there were three families with small kids. A few days ago, I wanted Indian cuisine. Where I live, I am blessed by many Indian restaurants. I selected this restaurant because I have never been there before. When we got there, they had a buffet. I thought to myself - Bonus. The restaurateur told us the buffet was all Veg. I was good with that. My thoughts immediately filled with images of dosas, naan, samosas, paneer mutter, aloo gobi, gobi 65, etc. When we got to survey the buffet, there were only seven to eight offerings. My wife suggested that we leave. At this point, I was so hungry and decided to take dinner here anyways. A couple of the dishes were good. The rest was nothing to mention. With so few offerings and no meat dishes, I was shocked that this spartan buffet was $15 per person. I believe this restaurant can do better with their buffet. While the interior is very plain, their hospitality is the best thing on the menu. read more

SO happy to see Raja Rani again! I was a fan back in the day when they used to be in Ann Arbor. We ordered the Chicken Korma, Lamb Rogan Josh, Aloo Gobi, and Samosas. All were excellent! If we were to compare with other local Indian restaurants, I would say Raja Rani and Namaste Flavors are our favorite. Namaste Flavors has had some problems with consistency when it comes to spice level, so I am happy to keep trying more dishes at Raja Rani! I went in at 830pm on a Friday night for take out, and they seemed steadily busy, in a good way. The cashier was very nice and wore a mask. Also, if you're in the mood for a quick mango lassi, they have a fridge at the front to quickly buy and go. A note for improvement - The paper menu for takeout had pictures of sushi on it - not a huge deal at all, since we'll be ordering online or via phone, reading off an online menu. I've never been to India and I'm not an Indian food connoisseur but I've had a lot of Indian food in my adult life. Today I just had the best Indian food I've ever eaten. It was at Raja Rani on Ford in Canton where I had the Friday lunch buffet. Was not expecting anything beyond good but this was exquisite. I had the paneer, lamb and fish with vegetable soup, carrots and parsley bread. Went back for seconds and added chutney, raita and bread & butter custard. I sat there, looked at my food and shook my head in wonderment. All great. I had thirds on the custard. Completely made my day. Bring a friend or the family. They'll thank you for it. I asked if I could thank the chef and both the owner and the chef came out to greet me. I hit them each with a namaste, shook their hands, told them both how much I liked the food and gave a good tip to the chef. I'm a regular now. read more

Below average at best. There are many other Indian restaurants in Detroit area that are way better. We ordered a paneer and chicken dish, both mild, and both had overwhelming flavor or various spices mashed together. Any veggies in the dish are over cooked and the spices take over the flavor of the main dish, and not in a nice way. Potato paranthas had overwhelming taste of carom seeds. Most of the food went straight into the bin. I was excited to try this place, but they need to find a better cook to survive in a highly competitive Indian restaurant scene in Detroit area.
