I highly recommend Dr. Ralph Shepstone and his staff. I've been seeing them for many years, and whether it's a routine cleaning, X-rays, or more specialized dentistry, the entire staff works to be sure that my visit is comfortable, professional, efficient, and welcoming. Dr. Shepstone is both knowledgeable and gentle in his manner, clearly explaining about any work that needs to be done. Due to Dr. Shepstone and his care of my sons over the years, they've always thought of dentists as friendly and outstanding professionals, He always makes time to examine my teeth personally, checking to be sure that they're in good condition and looking for any problems, making recommendations for further work if needed, plus asking about the kids (now grown) and how I'm doing. His prices are fair, and his recommendations for specialists are excellent. Joyce, the receptionist, always greets me and other patients with a smile, as do the other staff members. Joyce is patient and clear when answering any questions related to invoices or insurance. She's been especially helpful this past year, as I changed to Medicare insurance. Because of up-to-date technology, it's easy to schedule appointments and pay bills. Both Connie and Shannon, two of the dental hygienists, have cleaned my teeth and performed other procedures, and they are really wonderful--great at their job, and so friendly! Due to periodontal issues, cleaning can be painful for me, and they've been gentle while working on me, using numbing agents to minimize the pain, as well as informative with how I can do my part at home to keep my gums healthy. Parking is easy and free, and the office is small and personal. It's set up to be soothing and up-to-date, offering a variety of tools needed to accomplish the task and make the experience a better one for the patient. Two examples are that there are videos to choose from while having procedures done, and a choice of current, effective numbing agents for teeth. In fact, one time as Dr. Shepstone performed what could have been a painful procedure on me, I was watching the video "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and laughing So this ended up being a good experience! I have been a patient of Dr. Shepstone's since I moved to the northwest suburbs in 1998. I have stayed with him because of the quality of care the my family and I have all received from him over the years -- and because of his genuine and warmly expressed concerns about many different aspects of our well-being over the years. Dr. Shepstone has taken a conservative, but proactive approach with me over the years, replacing many cracked and/or deteriorating old fillings and, in a few cases, installing crowns. I feel that he does only what is necessary -- but he does it before worse problems might ensue. He always takes time to explain what is needed and why -- and now even shows me with a live video camera and snapshots the actual tooth/teeth needing repair, so that I can see for myself what he is looking at. He has respected my aversion to using novocain, and does most of my dental work without numbing me in any way -- promising that we can stop at any time to administer the novocain if I am uncomfortable. Dr Shepstone is an outstanding dentist. I've had numerous dentists during my life time (sixty-five plus years; and he is the best). Several things impress me about his practice: Hygienist, receptionist and other staff members are very friendly and professional. Joyce, the receptionist, also does the billing. She is very accurate and is willing to take the time to explain each invoice in detail. Their pricing is competitive with other quality dentists in the area. My wife & I have had root cannels, fillings, extractions, veneers and bridges installed. He will take the time to explain all the available options from dental implants, bridges and full plates along with the associated costs No one enjoys pain and Dr Shepstone is very caring in that area. We were thrilled to find Dr. Shepstone! My older son has had many dental problems and, as such, has had many procedures which have left him pretty phobic about going to the dentist. Before this year, we took my son to a pediatric practice that had determined that the only way to successfully get him through any procedure was with nitrous oxide.
