Ralph's Famous Italian Ices is definitely the place to visit for a cool treat. A family-owned business which has been in existence for 90 years. That's excellent and wonderful! This location is one of many locations that span across Long Island, Manhattan, and New Jersey. They offer ices, ice creams, and drinks which come in all flavors. My favorite ice cream to order when I visit is pistachio. It's delicious and has many pistachios throughout the ice cream. Staff were very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed a few laughs. It's icey season!! I pulled up with my sister and my teens for a sweet cool treat last week. And my sister got so mad at the owner who was apparently making horrible faces at me when I was placing my order. I have this goofy way of making Dad jokes and it's not like offensive at all. And the girl taking my order didn't seem too annoyed. But when I looked up to pay my sister's face was so red and she was like we are never coming back to this place like what's with that guy. She just got a treat for the kids and walked away. I was disappointed. I never saw this older gentleman behind the cashiers and there wasn't a line so I have no idea I guess the guy really doesn't like Dad jokes/ people who make jokes. My sister was very adamant that it wasn't the jokes. Hey you know what I still left with my key lime pie blizzzard with the ice and the soft serve joint together in a cup. I no longer live in the area so idk when I will return but my Mom lives close by so I guess decisions will have to be made in the future regarding where I get my icey fix at. t This spot has a parking lot and very cheery young women taking orders. Cute corner shop to stop at during the summer! Staff is always friendly. Most recently I ordered the Dubai sundae and rainbow cookie sundae. I've had the Dubai sundae from another Ralph's & this one puts the other locations Dubai sundae to shame. This one was loaded with kataifi at the bottom which was a pleasant surprise. As for the rainbow cookie sundae, you kept finding another rainbow cookie with every spoonful, so I would say both were definitely worth the cost! read more

I could never hate a Ralph's. Marrying nostalgia with sweetness and a vast array of flavors, the teens that typically dole out the treats are usually pretty kind, definitely speedy. I'm fairly certain Ralph's is still cash only, can't speak for the new locations, and thought the iced do run a premium price (my small cappuccino cream ice was over $4) you'll be feeling satiated, at least for the sugar cravings. The locations open in early March and generally close in the fall, so you gotta get your hands on them during the hot months, which makes them even more of a commodity. A local friend introduced me to Ralphs on one of the last evenings of summer, and it felt quintessential Long Island activity. This one feels a bit retro with its lights and signage. I got the strawberry cheesecake icee, and I loved the texture. How do they make it so fluffy and light and still pack in the strawberry and cake? And how do you choose a flavor? I love Ralph's, so when I saw this location on the way to the doctor, I was excited!! They never have sour cherry when I go, which is a bummer, but they make up for it with their plethora of options. I had "a blue ice" that I didn't know the name of and the girl helping me knew automatically which one I was talking about: blue Hawaiian. The service was great, and actually fast. I was expecting a much longer wait because of covid but they were very accommodating. There's a parking lot in the back of the store, which works out because they're located on a busy main road and a busy side street (across from a car wash). This is definitely a great dessert option! Aside from ices, they also have ice cream, sundae's, and other sweet treats if you aren't a fan of ices. I particularly love their chocolate ice, and have had both the regular and sugar free option. Surprisingly the sugar-free had a minimal difference to the regular! I have also had their sugar-free mint chip which was yummy, and their passion fruit which really embodies the flavor of the actual fruit! Customer service has always been great, and while the lines are typically long, especially on a weekend night, the workers really do hustle to assist everyone as quickly as possible. This is the nearest Ralph's to my home, and it's such a summer staple of mine. The girls working here are always very friendly, and are happy to let you sample any flavor you'd like. A few faves of mine within the cream ice category include: cookie monster, rainbow cookie, birthday cake, and pancake (tastes like maple). Of the water ices, passion fruit and mango are my faves. While most of the flavors are up on the menu above of the counter, I'd pay attention to the hand-written signs they place on the side of the store on the glass. Throughout the summer any additional or new flavors are written on there, unless you're on the lengthy line that could wrap around the block, you might miss them! This place is crazy! The location in Franklin square ALWAYS has an insane line! The wait on this line is at least 15/20 mins .... although there are like 5 people behind the counter. I give Ralph's ices in Franklin Square because I hate waiting on a 20 minute line for a product (ice cream wise) is not as good as its competitors. I believe friendlys and carvel are both better ice cream products with minimal wait times. Obviously they have a better selection of iced and "gelato" but it's not usually worth the wait. I think it usually has such a long line because of the nostalgia from ordering through a window.... but a wise person once said "ain't nobody got time for that" read more

Italian Ice chain that gets mobbed. I never could figure the appeal of this chain of ice places. I use lemon ice as a gage against which to judge all the other ice places against. The lemon ice here just doesn't do much for me. They have a slew of flavors to be sure, but let's face it, you are paying a lot of coin for frozen water. My friends are not foodies or epicures - they are the sorts who think Chili's is a fine meal out and that sushi is "gross" - all this despite living in the best food-city in America. L'arte del Gelato? Grom? Il Laboratorio del Gelato? Emack and Bolio's? Nope - Ralph's. Isn't that the Grocery store in Big Lebowski? Maybe I can write a check for 64 cents - that was my first thought. Driving up to the small hut (similar to Mel-O-Creme from my childhood) I heard my friends brag about how great this place was and how you could get a large for only $4 - not expecting much but not wanting to be a dick I asked them what they recommended and got "Blue Hawaii" from one and "Chocolate Peanut Butter" from the other. Browsing the sign I decided to go with Canoli. A blend of chocolate chip cookie dough ice-cream and straight up Vanilla sherbet I must admit it was better than expected - the flavors actually quite intense and texture decent enough.....but honestly, after the textural miracles achieved by the Gelato at L'arte and Scarpetta earlier in the day and at Humphry Slocombe weeks earlier there is a clear difference between "artisan" and "average. For the price (my friend offered to pay - if only I'd have convinced him to do the same at Le Bernardin the next day) it was good enough, but I just couldn't justify going on my own if I lived in a city with so many incredible options - it'd be like going to Subway for a sandwich or Dunkin for a Coffee. read more

It's hard to talk about addiction, but this place has got me hooked. Between rainbow and their creme ice, Cookies and Cream, I'm hopelessly lost sometimes taking in a pint a day. It's s pretty big deal around here. I came around 1:30 on Sunday surprised there was no line (better for my friend and I). I was so excited to celebrate the changing weather with my Ralph's until I found out the prices were raised... AGAIN. A medium ice cost $3.25 last year and now it's $4.00. Summer time used to consist of Ralph's 3-4 times a week but maybe I'll just go once or twice?... What a challenge. Even if I tried, I don't think I could resist a night out trying all the weekly flavors (& yes I'm that girl who will ask for 50 flavors before choosing what I actually want). Ralph's is such a treat for anyone visiting Long Island. It's worth every scoop of the small, medium, large, pint, and GALLON cups/containers. I'm not generally the type to get all frothy over Italian ice, but maybe that's because I had never tried the cream Italian ices at Ralph's before. The array of flavors is amazing. So far I have tried the dulce de leche (my favorite), toffee crunch, chocolate milk, tiramisu, canoli, and cookie dough. All were awesome. It's also cool that you can get your 3, 4, or 5 scoops of all different flavors; and they pack them in perfectly so that you get distinct layers, but can also penetrate down to mix layers. I love their large selection of unique flavors. Their samples are huge and even in the small cup you are allowed up to 3 flavors. Rather inexpensive. As the name suggests, this isn't your average ice cream. You can definitely tell these are water based. Tried the sugar free flavors once. When my cousin from Franklin Square was bringing me for italian ice, I was figuring italian ice like minute maid italian ice or maybe snow cones of some sort because I am visiting from Las Vegas....But this place was delicious! They had a board of must be around 50 flavors. A small is three scoops for about $3.50 (if i remember correctly) and you could choose a different flavor for each scoop. I decided on pistachio, hazelnut, and coconut. I think what really impressed me was that each flavor had chunks of that actual nut or fruit. Hazelnut and pistachio had whole nuts and plenty of them. Coconut tasted like the fruit bars and had real fruit in it too. It's not milky as ice cream is but its smoother than regular shaved ice. Texture is comparable to Kuma Snow Ice or Snowflake Shavery located in Vegas except without the "froyo" toppings. Totally worth it. Gonna have cravings for this place when I go back home. read more

I gave it 3 stars Bc the ices here are to die for but I think it's rude to turn a customer away due to the machine not reading my money proper. I offered to use my credit card but they told me it was a $10 minimum which I would of been cool with if my issue wasn't my fault.. There was no compassion for the situation by the manager if that who was handling the problem after the fact! They should really hire managers who care about the customers.
