The food is made fresh, but it did take a while. The burgers and bubble tea were great as well as the different flavors of ice cream, I love that. They had candy that you can buy as well since my son is allergic to dairy there are so many options on the menus to choose from and customizations for the burgers. Street parking is free after 6/7pm otherwise, bring quarters. Our intent was to order just ice cream but we ended up grabbing a meal as well. He ordered a bacon cheeseburger w. seasoned fries and I ordered Buffalo wings. Our meal was absolutely delicious! He said the burger was a 10/10. My buffalo wing sauce was a dry rub, which i prefer so that was a plus. We also ordered ice cream. I ordered the flat = pound cake w. Oreo ice cream & fudge. I switched the chocolate and Vanilla Ice cream for Oreo and I opted out not having the whip cream because I don't like it. I wasn't too impressed with the pound cake. It tasted too "hearty" for me. Not enough taste but my boyfriend loved his one scoop of strawberry ice cream on a sugar cone. He said it tasted very strawberry. The total was less than $35 and the service was great. Just Yum! My gaggle ages 16-9, loved the ice cream! My husband and I also enjoyed the tasty cool treats. Prices are definitely not pocket/wallet busting. The seasoned fries were also very delicious, the perfect amount of seasoning and just the right crunch! Walt Itgens is a true gem in Valley Stream. Sorry folks but this place has declined drastically! Not a great selection of Easter bunnies, eggs or candies!! What the hell happened?? I come in on Good Friday and there's barely any chocolate bunnies, chickens anything available!!?? The largest bunny available is $85. About 1 1/2 feet tall. But low and behold there's a huge hole at the base!! I settle for a $70 model. Geez what a disappointment! Another customer points out there is nothing in the window. Omg! Just omg! First of all...... I've never seen my son eat ice cream so fast. We normally do Rita's on Mondays but since it's closed for the season we thought we'd check some other places out! This is DEFINITELY a GEM! Omg! First of all, immediately you look at the place from the outside and think, "omg it's so cute." Then you step inside and think "omg it's so cute!" Lol! The people are super nice too so that's a plus. I think it's also a diner and not just an ice cream parlor. I'll find that out in the future because we'll definitely be back. Love at first sight is a good way to describe the experience I had here. After a long day I wanted ice cream so I checked my Yelp n set out in a quest for something desserty. I parked across the street from what looked liked an older fashioned diner. When I got closer I say Covid signs and quite a few sweet locals hanging out all romantic. Itgens how we missed you during Covid. So happy to see my favorite ice cream parlour back in action. Grace and her crew are smiling and busy making homemade ice cream and the best comfort food on Long Island. We strayed from our usual hamburger and fries order to try something different tonight. My girlfriend ordered fried chicken which was crispy and juicy, cooked to perfection and served with scratch mashed potatoes and the most incredible cucumber salad of all time - fresh cucumber, shaved carrot, and a perfect vinaigrette. Delish x3. I opted for a hot open face roast beef sandwich with medium sliced roast beef served atop white bread and topped with delicious brown gravy, paired with more of the delicious mashed potatoes and some sautéed spinach. The roast beef was seasoned perfectly, the spinach had a wonderful garlic twang. My girlfriend opted for a fresh made peach boba tea - this is her new obsession here. Our server Faiza was sweet, charming, attentive, and engaging, and as always, Grace came by to chat us up and make sure we were well cared for. Itgens is back in action making homemade candies and chocolates, and a fresh batch of almond bark came out as we were there - Grace offered us and another table a free taste and wow was it superb. If I haven't said it enough before, Itgens makes the best ice cream on Long Island, nope, New York, nope, the East Coast. They are selling their flavors to go as well - I took a quart of mint chocolate chip home with me (planned ahead with a cooler and ice packs), so do yourself a flavor (yes that's a pun) and take some home with you. We finished our meal with the greatest dessert ever - the Itgens special: The Flat Car...two scoops of your choice (mint chip and oreo recommended), served over warm pound cake, topped with their homemade hot fudge and whipped cream (we skip the whip so it doesn't get in the way of the fudge). These are tough times. There are business and people suffering. My boo and I were both craving something sweet and we descended upon this retro spot. At first sight, it appears like a diner, although when you first walk-in, on the right hand side there's tons of stuffed animals, and to the left a display of different nostalgic candies and chocolate dolls and stuffed animals (they were freakish looking lol). Continued inside and to the right were booths and the left side had a counter with seats, sort of like a cafeteria. We reviewed the long list of sweet treats available, and I chose the pound cake topped with vanilla and chocolate ice-cream, hot fudge, and walnuts; my boo ordered a sundae with bananas, hot fudge, vanilla and chocolate ice cream as well. We practically rolled out of this place, since we were overly stuffed. The sweet treats were good, can't comment on food since we did not eat anything aside from the ice cream treats. The overall space can use a bit of an upgrade, and "spring cleaning". It is nice to have a place that is retro but maintaining it clean and up-to-date is important, especially for the staff and patrons. What happened to this place? It used to be pretty good food. I was just had one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Initially I ordered a Hot Open Turkey dish. What I received was several slabs of paper-dry chalk-pale turkey that smelled old and tasted spoiled. One whiff of it and I rejected the whole plate. However, I gave the staff another chance and asked for the Chopped Steak with mashed potatoes. This time I was served an over-cooked hockey puck-like hunk of meat, covered with burned onions. Worst of all, the potatoes were disgusting beyond belief, with a sour milk taste and were clearly over-heated in a microwave. To call this food slop would be an insult to slop. I've been making some trips to Long Island for movie night out with my favorite peeps, EC and Denny. It's a long trip, but it's worth it. This time, there was a special treat waiting for me at the end - dinner at Itgen's Ice Cream Parlour. My boyfriend had read about it in Saveur magazine, and when I asked EC, she told me that she used to go all the time in high school. The movie - it was okay (it may have been better had I concentrated a little less on the ice cream choices at Itgen's). The place is small and cozy, and the wait staff are very nice. We had a group of 5 with one very cute toddler. We ordered two hamburgers, one patty melt, one turkey burger, one turkey blt sandwich, and french fries with chicken fingers. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal - I ESPECIALLY enjoyed trying my boyfriend's patty melt. Now, don't you worry - I made room for ice cream. So many good choices - but who won the battle? The Itgen's S'more Sundae - Crispy Graham Cracker, Two Scoops of Ice Cream (your choice - I chose the Vanilla Chocolate Chip), Hot Fudge, Marshmallow and Whipped Cream. I went there for ice cream after lunch time. Had a few customers which was a pretty good sign. I noticed a lady on the grill cooking who didn't have a hair net which I was annoyed about. An young lady helped us with the ice cream. Very nice answering our questions on the ice cream selection. I was bummed they didn't have cookie dough ice cream. She seemed like the only one working there. Everyone else seemed like they were in their own world but just on the time. The prices are decent. 6.95 for an sundae. I got the royal sunrise which has no coffee syrup but this disgusting hot fudge which wasn't smooth in texture at all (very disappointing). Visit Date: July 27, 2013 So I was really excited to come here and I was unfortunately disappointed. A couple of years ago one of my co-workers told me this was definitely a good place to go to but I think they changed ownership. When I walked in as expected from prior reviewers I felt like I walked into a time warp. (Rocky Horror Picture Show's time warp was playing in my mind). The furniture is old and very dated, so are their posters and it's not dated in the vintage cute chic way it's dated as in need of serious redecoration. I heard they were dirty and I read I should also avoid the bathroom luckily I didn't have to pee so I can't comment on the bathroom or validate the dirtiness of it. Besides everything being dated I really didn't notice anything overly dirty and I did see the staff cleaning. I also read I shouldn't eat here but I had dinner anyway because my friend was getting dinner with her kids. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with Mozzarella and American cheese on wheat bread. It was nothing special, it wasn't awful but I wouldn't want to eat it again. My friend got a burger for herself and fries, her kid got a hot dog. The fries were crinkly cut straight from some frozen package, I didn't eat them they wouldn't be worth eating IMO. My friend asked me what I thought and I told her it was good but if she reads this review she's going to find out what I really think. I just didn't have a heart to tell her because she likes this place and I didn't want to be rude to her. For ice cream I had the chocolate peanut butter cup sundae and I also took home a homemade chocolate peanut butter cup. My sundae cup was totally dated but the sundae itself wasn't bad. I've had better chocolate peanut butter cup sundaes but it was a decent ratio of chocolate and peanut butter. I also ate a better homemade peanut butter cup. Itgen's peanut butter cup was better than your average reese's but definitely not as good as Kilwin's in Babylon. So I might come back here for ice cream in the future but I'd avoid the food from here at all costs. Also I'd urge the owner's to redecorate if they can. If I come back in the future and there are changes here I'll definitely update my review to reflect them. read more

After dinner in Oceanside on Monday night, my girlfriend and I were lookin' for some dessert (belated birthday treat for her) and landed on Itgen's. I had been here once previously many moons ago and enjoyed the large sundae I consumed (back then it might've gotten a four star review). This past experience was more of a three. Let me elaborate. I do like the look of Itgen's as you're transported to an old school ice cream parlor complete with counter top space and a nice list of homemade frozen choices. Service, despite the place being empty, seemed a bit lackluster as the waitress acted/looked ready to bolt when the closing hour was up. That and the rest of the employees (possibly the owner in the back?) brought down the nostalgic feel. Luckily, ice cream can remedy some (but not all) bad vibes. I ordered one scoop of chocolate peanut butter and my girlfriend went with java (topped with caramel and chocolate sprinkles). Mine was rich in flavor with a good balance between chocolate and PB. I did really enjoy it and price-wise it was worth the greenery I produced from my wallet. Overall, Itgen's is a quality stop for ice cream, but I can't shake the feeling I had from staff the other night. It's old-school and hard to find something similar in Long Island now! I planned on just getting a half pint of strawberry, didn't realize there was a $10 card minimum. This worked out well though, cause I settled to get a half pint of rocky road and Oreo each. THAT ROCKY ROAD WAS FANTASTIC! I highly recommend it. The strawberry and Oreo were also creamy and delicious. Never have had non store bought ice cream, but this really took the cake, so different and rich. The menu also consists of a few sugar free options, which is a good accommodation. Drove here early morning to try their homemade icecream birthday cake - thought it would be something new and different than the same old same old (which by the way is usually delicious) but in the spirit of taking advice "Everyone goes to Itgens for birthday cakes" (over by where it is in Valley Stream -not over hear where I had never heard of it) I put it in my GPS and headed over. Once back, out of the box came the big ice cream cake (chocolate, strawberry, vanilla over pound cake with some chocolate crunchies) with whipped cream top and bright.. I say bright red glossy writing "Happy Birthday.." The flowers were not edible they were yellow and blue plastic ones from the 60s... well 60s style. So it was a bit cheesy to say the least and made it all the more fun. Glad I did it.. no need to go back. If anyone has a birthday cake tip.. I will seriously consider it.. Was waiting at the bar for a sundae and this man scooped a scoop of ice cream proceeded to grab the scoop with his bare hand, placed it in his mouth and swallowed it whole.
