King Umberto does not offer a large assortment of available slices with toppings; you won't find four different chicken type pies here. But what you will find is some of the most excellent pizza in this area. Of particular excellence, they serve a thick crusted, well sauced Sicilian pie. That is the way I remember it, and for my money, the way this type of pizza is intended to be made. They do have a few offerings with toppings like pepperoni and other goodies. But I can tell you that you can't go wrong with a regular cheese slice and especially that wonderful Sicilian. The staff and service is really terrific as well. I have finally made my way to King Umberto's after all this time. This is part of the trifecta that brought the grandma pizza to the masses, that being Umberto's, King Umberto's, and Da Angelo's. And with this visit, I have visited all three. With that out of the way, let's get to what I got at this pizzeria. Since I had just come from Dario's, I decided that one slice would be good to get a feel of what KU offers. First off, the ambiance and look of the pizzeria is my favorite of the trifecta and the customer service is fantastic. I got the white slice and on the whole, it was heated to perfection, had a wonderful balance of mozzarella, ricotta and basil. Anywho, the taste of the slice was fantastic and I think this outclasses Umberto's and Da Angelo's white pies by a long shot. The display case had a great selection of wonderfully made pizza and other items for takeout. If you come here, you need to try their grandma pie as that it's claim to fame (I wish I could have it, but damn gastritis! ) I met Giovanni, one of the owners and he was friendly and loves having conversations with his customers and hope to meet him again. The other day they had a one day special that they've been saying on social media for a few weeks to call to preorder. It was a rainbow cookie bomboloni. I saw they had a very limited amount available the day of so I decided to go. The guy at the counter told me they just sold out, but to ask Giovanni if there was somehow any more. There weren't, so I ordered a few slices. Right before I left, more came out and Giovanni was nice enough to let me know. He threw in a mini rainbow muffin as well. King Umberto's is by far the best pizza spot around. They've expanded into a full restaurant and bar, but my review is for the classic pizza shop up front. As soon as you walk through the corner entrance, you're in the quintessential old school pizza place. The staff is what you would imagine from a NY pizza crew, but incredibly generous. Several times I've had them throw in an extra slice which absolutely is above and beyond and makes my day. The pizza itself is extraordinary. Their grandma slice is one of my favorites, and the metro is one of their specialties. While you can't go wrong with the classic slices, grab a few non traditional ones and treat yourself to a great experience. Came here to celebrate a girls' Thanksgiving and had such a beautiful experience overall. Fantastic food. Got there without a reservation. Sat us right away. Had house salad and fried calamari to start. Calamari was super fresh and very lightly fried. Sauce had a great flavor and not acidic at all. Pizza was great. Crunchy crust, no flop and perfect amount of cheese. The arabiata slice had plenty of broccoli rabe and a little heat. We stopped by King Umberto late tonight. I was very hungry and just happy to sit down and order some hearty comfort food. I devoured everything before even remembering to take photos! We shared a rice ball and the seafood salad to start. My husband ordered a whole Grandma pie (I happily enjoyed two slices), and I had linguine with garlic and oil -- which I don't even recall seeing on the menu, but they are always accommodating. As always, everything was delicious. One of our favorite waiters, Tulio was working tonight. He is professional, courteous, and very attentive. He refilled our water glasses without us having to ask and brought extra napkins when he saw me eating pizza with my hands. We've been coming to this restaurant on and off for many years, and consistently for at least the past five. Tulio has always stood out as a hardworking, friendly presence who cracks a joke here and there. He consistently checks on his customers and makes everyone feel well taken care of. We didn't stay too long, but we left with some Grandma slices to go and are already looking forward to enjoying them for lunch tomorrow. read more

Then his dad explains how he's going to make his special Pork & Sweet Vinegar Pepper sandwich. Man, I wish my dad was around so I can try his specialty sandwich. It just got to me. Elmont isn't too far away so I head out to King Umberto's. The name is throwing me and I hope I'm going to the right place. Is this like a Famous Rays pizza thing? I called ahead and placed an order for the specialty sandwich. Once inside, it's pizza in the front and all business in the back. I'm watching their videos, King Umberto's is known for their Veal Chop dish?? This place is calling me to come back and try everything. I walk inside the restaurant and give my order number. I also see in the corner of my eye homemade doughnuts?! Another customer comes in to pick up his order, he must have ordered Twenty Five sandwiches! I'm getting a little nervous, are they going to run out? The customer with the large order asked for a few doughnuts as well. Giovanni tells him, they're all sold but to get them next time, call ahead. Wow! The guys behind the counter are asking for my order and start prepping sandwiches. Now Giovanni (who I never met) said look, here's an extra sandwich, just in case one of them didn't come out perfect. I'm not understanding what's happening but I'm sure my dad in heaven gave someone a fist bump for me. I sit down and take a bite. If you know anything about New York Italian bread, this hero bread is perfectly cooked. It's split and stuffed with sliced pork and peppers. My wife and I stopped by King Umbertos Pizza and had an excellent experience from start to finish. I ordered two vodka slices, while my wife had a regular slice and a grandma slice. We also shared an arugula salad and the fried calamari. Everything was made to perfection. The pizza was fresh, flavorful, and cooked exactly right, the salad was crisp and fresh, and the calamari was perfectly prepared. You can tell they take pride in the quality of their food. Last night I dined at Serata and enjoyed an evening that made me feel like I'd stepped far outside of Elmont. From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed by an ambiance that radiates beauty and class. The host graciously took our coats and escorted us to our table, and the wait staff couldn't have been more accommodating. They guided us through the experience with such care that we knew we were in for something special and what an experience it was! The food was immaculate. We chose the 8-course tasting menu, and each dish somehow managed to outshine the one before it. My favorite was the ceviche (which was paired with grapefruit and thin slices of green apple). It was fresh, bright, and perfectly balanced. The rigatoni with beef cheek was cooked to perfection, and the steak quite literally melted in my mouth. To finish, the raspberry dessert hit every note: sweet, tart, creamy, and crunchy all at once.I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Serata and genuinely cannot wait to return. read more

I've been to King Umberto's many times over the years with a most recent stop in on New Years Day to find the place busy as usual. With the King you get your choice of two spaces - the original pizzeria has a more old school vibe with slightly cheaper prices. Honestly I haven't been inside in a while opting for their patio space, which is huge and since we were here for the holidays felt like we were dining in a Christmas village. You have a large hungry group to feed? Make a reservation here because you can dine with many others and will be well taken care of by a small army of servers. It is spacious and you will not feel cramped not matter how full the place may be. We started with a fresh delicious burrata salad that had caramelized fig, prosciutto, arugula, avocado, star fruit - it was quite the scene and a delicious one at that. Before our meal we received the usual salad that comes with the meals we ordered and it has marinated onions(?) for the dressing - that was tasty as well. We hit a bit of a snag with our mains. The Veal Pizzaiola Alla Cairo came out fine and thought it was very good, but the eggplant parmigiana wasn't fully cooked - there were slices of cheese that were not melted and cold inside. We asked the waitress to bring it back to have it heated - when she returned she said the kitchen was making a brand new one. It was a good save, but made for awkward meal waiting for 10 min for the new one. These things happen sometimes, but that make it right - at the end of the meal the waitress even told us the dessert was on her for the mishap. Classy. The pistachio profiterole - ice cream here is a similar flavor to the one they serve at Carvel. It is also smothered in Hershey's chocolate syrup. It did the job, but wasn't anything special. Despite the issue we enjoyed the meal here - I chalked it up to be New Years day and just appreciated the hard working staff for showing up on the holiday. From the minute you enter the delicious smell of well prepped flavored food assault your senses and promises to titillate your tongue and satisfy hour spirit. Roared peppers, the sauces, pizza, sausage, chicken, steak. I came in to buy a steak and came out with over $120 of food so I wouldn't have to cook for the weekend. The staff is wonderfully attentive and friendly always with a smile. And may I say the men especially John are a delight for the eyes especially when they're speaking Italian - ooooowheeee. Such a positive friendly atmosphere makes food more enjoyable. I put them at a 15 on a scale of 1 to 12. The pasta and drinks here are excellent. I love how their lasagna is made with different meats which makes it very savory and tasty. The frose is a must! Very refreshing and flavorful. The food was absolutely amazing!! Even my left overs were amazing. There were 20 of us celebrating my grandsons first birthday. We called at the last minute (day before other plans fell through) and they were able to accommodate us.....especially when my party kept growing from the original 15 to over 22! All along, the server was personable and very very helpful. Parking is a nightmare and while they have a lot, it is not close (for us mobility challenges few folks) and filled up fast because they had at least 4 large events. The ambiance and space was classy and filled with just happiness and warmth. A big plus for me was that they did not automatically include the tip even though it was a large party. I dislike when others do that and usually I only put what they have included and since I am a bigger tipper, it usually means they shortchange themselves. KUE did not and allowed me to leave the tip of my choice. We were there for several hours and they did not throw us out; they were very gracious. I will definitely return. Be prepared to spend $$$ but they are worth every dollar. read more

I don't like leaving bad reviews but this warrants one. My waiter was an elderly white man with glasses and a big belly. I ordered the chicken rollatini and it was undercooked. I ask a different waiter about it, since the old waiter kept disappearing. He told me he'd bring it back to the kitchen, and then the old waiter abruptly interrupted. He tried telling me it was the wine sauce that made the chicken pink. I mean come on wine sauce doesn't make chicken pink, I was insistent he bring it back to cook it better. When he came back it was only slightly cooked more. He tried telling me it was prosciutto that was the pink part. It wasn't an ingredient listed on the menu, plus I don't eat pig which I told him. Only then he apologized and tried getting me something else, but that left a bad taste in my mouth. I asked for the check and left right away. I doubt it was prosciutto because I had diarrhea shortly after. I see racism is a common theme with some of the other bad reviews, which I don't disagree with. I'm Asian. If you want to get food poisoning this is the place for you read more

It was an amazing combination of savory and sweet, Caramelized mango, arugula, avocado, prosciutto and Burrata drizzled with balsamic. I wish it was on the menu all the time. Back in NY after Tampa, we found this fantastic restaurant! Amazing Italian restaurant! We came here for lunch because it's in the same area as our vet. If not because of my cats, we wouldn't be here, although we heard about it from Hubby's friend, who also owns a lot of cats. We returned for lunch again the second time because we found an excuse to bring another cat to the vet. I need to adopt and rescue more cats to keep coming back. Eric was our waiter twice and was very attentive and professional. He's the man! Everything was so good here. We had seafood salad, pizza with broccoli rabe, and seafood pasta, which was enough for two. We also tried their baked clams, which were good. We had chicken scarpariello, and this was amazing! My friend and I arrived there Sunday night expecting to eat in the main dining room. Google says they are open until 11 pm. We drove all the way from Deer Park arrived at 930 pm only to be told the main dining room was closed. We spoke to the manager who was nothing but rude who tried to tell us they didn't want the staff to be there all night. I work in a restaurant myself. We finally got some bomboloni! We live for the East so we only get to go to King Umberto's when we're near JFK or are on a trip. We had a great stopover we made a reservation at the Patio and had a great meal with awesome tender veal parmesan with some pasta and my wife had the fish. Picked up a few pizzas to take home! And the bomboloni were a fantastic, we got two Nutella two pistachio and two plain, light fluffy not too sweet just super enjoyable! The service at the Patio was fantastic very accommodating they were understanding that you didn't want a big meal after a trip to the West Coast so they just treated us right!
