This is one of the worst Ralphs i have ever been to. Every 6 months or so, i find myself screamed at, berated at by a staff member despite the fact i rarely go there. It is beyond ridiculous. The staffs are so so unprofessional, if i can give them a NEGATIVE score i would! If you ever need help at the self-checkout line, then pray NO STAFF will scream at you because the machine is stuck or the computer is doing strange things. The staff at this store on Barrington + Olympic are so so rude, often if you ask for help, they give you an attitude like you have committed a crime and they are doing you a favor by helping you. The only staff who are nice are the ones working in produce. The deli is delicious but given how rude the staffs are at check out, I recommend you go somewhere else. It is a horrendous experience for me to pay to buy food and get berated and yelled at for no good reason but because i needed help at checkouts etc. read more

1. A few months ago while with my toddler in arm, I was checked out, had put my credit card in and had my bags. Went to my car, put the 2 bags of groceries in the car and was putting my toddler in the car-seat when I was approached by security and an employee (I think it was the african american manager who never shows any friendly demeanor) saying I didn't pay. I said I had, and he "escorted" me back in with my bags in front of everyone and my child claiming I hadn't, making me look like a thief. They were acting like I was "caught". I was taken back to the register by the security police and manager and other customers staring at the whole spectacle. I told them I've been shopping there for 15 years (usually twice/week) - didn't register/they didn't care - and remember putting my credit card AND my customer rewards card using my phone number with my name attached to that - why would I do that if I was planning to steal $30 worth of groceries? I started removing my groceries from the bags to expedite it, humiliated by the circus. I was told all the info was already in the system I didn't have to get it rung again, that the cashier hadn't pressed the finish button or something. Then why did they make me bring all my groceries back and humiliate and inconvenience me? They made me feel like a thief. He pressed a button with security and manager surrounding me and customers in line watching, receipt popped out, the mean manager and the other employees didn't apologize at all but instead made me feel like a thief. (cashier was old man). I contemplated suing them for the experience. 2. A couple years ago I bought plain yogurt that was moldy when I opened it. I took receipt and told manager, she was a TOTAL B*. Again no apologies, she was rude, no customer service and acted like I was inconveniencing her, not concerned about the actual issue. 3. Last year my mother said the Nordstrom gift card I got from there for mother's day had no credit on it. I was sure I had paid $50 for it. I told a manager, who gave me a number to call to ask for the accountant. NOBODY ever answered the phone. They finally did once and it was just the number to the store - I went in person and all she did was give me the number to their store where the phone is rarely answered. The accountant was never available so I got ripped off and nobody looked into it or cared. 4. Last week one of their produce products gave me SEVERE food poisoning - I was throwing up with diarrhea all night and couldn't go to work the next day. I wanted to approach a manager about it, but the last 2 times I have shopped there I feel they are very unapproachable and I don't want to "bother" them about it. They won't care and likely will make me feel like I'm inconveniencing them. 5. A couple of weeks ago I was at the Deli (food has a lot of artificial ingredients - you'd think at a grocery store they'd have access to real ingredients but they're pre-processed/made at a factory with preservatives and list of ingredients that are hard to pronounce so don't get fooled). One of the employees was late from his brake and the manager started yelling at him. I felt really bad and wish he could find somewhere better to work where they don't talk to him that way, especially in front of others just like they did to me. My list could be much longer, but these are the immediate ones that first popped into mind. There are a few cashiers who are nice and hard workers and there are a few nice things I can say, but the bad totally outweighs all that. You'd think at a very busy store in one of the most congested areas of Los Angeles they'd do a better job of hiring and training (though you can't train common sense into people) but that's sadly not the case here. read more

Two stars is generous for this Ralph's. I just hit about my last straw with this sorry excuse of a "grocery store" Always messy, always not stocked, night and early morning crew could care less and don't respond or even acknowledge you when you ask someone where something is. I was at one point asked "why" I needed a product when she couldn't tell me where it was located. That's not even the worst. I was just told, with a blank stare and no willingness to help, that they couldn't break a $100... Should I even continue? Is worth my waste of time? Probably not. He stared at me, my milk in my hand, and asked me if I had "any other cash". Didn't bother to contact a manager, or even open up a self check out real quick, or bug the woman who just walked away with her til FULL OF CASH to help me break it. Not too mention, this Ralph's is expensive, WAY expensive compared to every other one I went to. I go to this location because it's convenient and next to my job, think I'll start waiting for the Ralph's next to my house to open, even if it's an extra 30 minutes. read more

The workers at this location especially in the produce department are always rude. Maybe it's because some scummy customers actually eat grapes out of the package before they buy it making it weigh less. I hope they get sick from eating unwashed food that people probably touch to feel if it's ripe anyway. But it isn't just the produce dept, the Starbucks staff and the deli counter people are running out the clock type workers and it's like you're at the dmv. This Ralph's is horrible. read more

2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 132/365 I'm new to the West LA/Sawtelle area, and went to this Ralphs for the first time yesterday. It's right off of Olympic and Barrington. Parking is easy because they have a parking lot! Woot woot. Always a major plus in LA. I noticed that this Ralphs is a little on the older, run-down side. Not a huge issue, but something I observed almost immediately upon entry. I'm giving this Ralphs 3 stars because the layout is ODD. I had a hard time navigating through the store because it has a really weird setup. The building is in an odd shape, and I found it strange that they didn't really have any of the dairy/refrigerator items in the same area. The far left wall has the milk, yogurt, sour cream, etc. Then all the juice and whatnot is in another area. And then the cheeses are in a different area, and then the meat/steaks/ground beef, etc. are somewhere else! I'm used to having all of the refrigerator-like items all relatively close together. I felt like I was just walking back and forth between all sections of the store because it was difficult trying to find everything. The guy who checked me out was really nice and friendly. It's cool because instead of just chill in' at their registers until customers come up to them, the cashiers would stand in front of their aisles, where customers would normally line up, and kindly ask customers walking by if they're ready to check out. I've never seen that before, which I thought was kinda cool! I brought recyclable bags since I believe this Ralphs might not be using plastic bags anymore. I just handed my cashier my bags and he loaded them up with my groceries! Overall, 3.5 stars. Definitely will be returning for groceries, but I gotta get used to the funky layout! read more

I think it's great that places like Wal-Mart employ folks with special needs. I am REALLY behind that - and I'm NOT being facetious. Ralph's, however, has apparently adopted this hiring practice and has irresponsibly put these "special folks" behind the deli counter where they work with knives and deli-slicers. Um. Normally, this is my GO TO spot for groceries. The Self-Checkout kiosks save me more time than I can explain, as many of those baby-boomers are still too terrified to try their shot at scanning their own groceries. Ralph's ain't exactly value central. Does it have a great assortment? Sure. Prices? M'eh. You can find damn near ANYTHING in the store cheaper elsewhere. Do I come here all the time? Yes. Why? Convenience. However, that's going to change... and let me tell you why. RUDE. IRRESPONSIBLE. DIM-WITTED. UNFOCUSED. I can think of a million other descriptors from the overall lexicon but none can pinpoint the malaise I feel for some of the employees, here. Time to name names. ROSA L. I hope you get fired... This is just a review of the Sandwich makers of the deli section. I've never seen such incompetence in sandwich making, seriously. Came here on a Friday morning around 9am cuz I was starving and figured a sandwich would be a good choice. I looked at the menu and saw the Chicken Bacon Ranch specialty sandwich for 6.99 and saw that it had pepperjack and jalapenos. I was sold! I told the lady there that i wanted the Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich, and she was like "what kind of bread?" and I said a "ciabatta roll, i guess? I just want whatever comes on that Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich. (pointing to the item on the big menu, which describes it having a ciabatta roll)". and then she says "we have ___ and ___ and ____ kinds of bread" (I forgot what kinds, but she was pointing to the different breads again). so i'm like "CIABATTA, just WHATEVER comes on it." and then she says "so what do you want on your sandwich?" and i had to REPEAT "THE CHICKEN BACON RANCH SANDWICH THAT IS ON THE MENU." She then turns around and stares at the menu for awhile trying to recollect the ingredients. Frank had a similar situation with his Egg Salad sandwich, with a DIFFERENT sandwich maker. and his guy took forever just trying to zip up the bag that he put the sandwich in. we couldn't help but laugh at the incompetence. never have i seen such a sandwich making fail. the bread was too hard i think. the sandwich was ehh. Located right next door to a Trader Joe's. I'm not sure which store I should feel sorry the most for. Though the consumer reaps the rewards as you can jump from one to the other in a quick one-stop shopping enjoyment. Their seafood department has cleaned squid. That alone is impressive and just an example of how they have a wide selection of under sea life to feast on. My peeve about this place is that the express lane is SO GOD DAMN SLOW! Every time I've attempted to use it because I had stuff that I figured was too complicated for self check out (veggies/bread/etc.) I have been stuck with the slowest cashier. Which makes no sense. You have a quick lane but a slow worker? The self check out is pretty nifty though. It does get you out faster if you can use it and aren't afraid of technology. Especially when it's asking you to put the item in the bag again and again even after you already did. How about when it tells you the weight isn't right for the item. Oh yeah, the wonders of the 21st century. This place also has a fairly impressive alcohol selection and is really clean. So it has that going for it. Over all, a pretty nice Ralphs. Make sure to go to the meetings every week, by the way. You have a membership card for a reason... read more

How many of you who give this particular Ralphs a bad review, still shop there? I've had bad experiences there, and a racist one as well. I wrote a letter to them explaining the incident, and got no reply. That's how much they care. Basically, some of the checkers are constantly having a bad day. The tall African American male clerk is a prime example. He shouldn't be there. After my bad experience and no response, I decided to never shop there again. The proximity to my home is literally 3 blocks away. It's the closest market by far, but I pledge to not give them a cent of my money. It's already been many months. It's convenience is no reason to patronize them. There's also a Trader Joe's next door that I'll gladly patronize instead. Why support an establishment that doesn't respond to questions and concerns? Wish this one was closer to me than the Ralph's I have to go to. It's bigger and has a much cleaner feel to it. Everything is spacious so you don't feel like you are going to bump into people as you go in search of the items that you need. Parking was super easy for a Friday! I love my local Ralph's! 24 hours. Fresh fare. What more do I need to say? Okay, fine. Coffee Bean. Olive bar. Cheese zone. Salad bar. Bakery w/ special cakes. Rotisserie chickens. And that's just the basics. This Ralph's is my heaven. They have a decent selection of organic produce, and the produce guy is really nice and friendly. I'm pretty sure he's friends with all the old ladies who come every afternoon. Meat counter - Ralph's has really good meat. And prices are great, especially when things are on sale. I frequently get the big steak packages and have a BBQ with some friends. It took me a while to realize that the sales were applicable at the meat counter as well as with the packaged meats. Once I got a huge steak (Top sirloin I think) that was I around 3lbs for $4. One thing I love about being on the Westside in general is all the Kosher/Jewish products. I stocked up on all my Passover needs here, and got the key Manischewitz macaroons for my family. Plus there's more than one Bar/Bat Mitzvah card. Plus, they usually have Challah from Schwartz bakery! I love that Challah. The random music selection always manages to put me in a good mood. I can't count on one hand the number of times I've found myself signing along in my head and pushing my cart to the beat of classics like "Time after Time" or "Boys of Summer." This is intermixed with constant ads about "If you're 60 or older, consult our pharmacist today, as you may be at risk for shingles." You think this would kill my music buzz, but it does not, as I have a 24 year old friend who once got shingles and conveniently had to miss two of the busiest weeks at work, and this commercial is a reminder to me to make fun of him. Then, I head to the alcohol isle. A good selection of craft beers for a supermarket, they usually have the seasonal Blue Moons and whatnot, plus some nice 22's like Stone and Duvel and Chimay. I stare longingly at the expensive wines in the glass case. Around this time I sometimes see the Belgian wine steward. He is always nice, and maybe a little extra nice to the ladies. There's a Wells Fargo branch (complete with tellers) inside the store. They also recently opened up a Trader Joe's & Walgreen's across the street, which is so convenient, as I can stock up at both places at once. Yay Ralph's! read more

I've been going to this Ralph's for over 3 years now. I live in this area, I pay taxes of all kinds in this city, I frequent numerous small and large businesses including, but not limited to this particular grocery store, I work in this area, and I could go on and on - you get the point. I have never felt so visually scrutinized and "followed around" as I ever have in any store I've shopped in. The security, management and staff have all done this to me. I do NOT appreciate this! I guess the selection is fairly decent at Ralphs. But lets be honest if its not a Ralph's card special of the week you know the price is way high. I only shop here when I happen to find out something I want to stock up on is on special like for instance Kellogg's Raisin Bran or All Bran ( for Muffins) or some other big corporate processed food that I need. But a lot of it can be found at Costco or WHole foods is almost always cheaper for those sorts of things. The service is : wait -a-minute What Service? You will never ever find anyone to ask : hey where is [insert item]? The parking lot is a mess. They keep changing the layout so often I can never find anything anymore. This is one of the best Ralph's on the Westside, say it with me "Ralph's- Fresh Fare" (note: you have to say Fresh Fare how the people on the Mentos commercials say Freshmaker) The renovations were not only in design and technology, but in attitude of employees as well. Very friendly and helpful people work here, and I never seem to have a problem breezing in and out no matter what time of day. The deli is great and if it weren't for their great selection of fresh made sandwiches, or rotisserie chickens and turkeys, I would probably starve. I can't speak for this Ralphs before the renovation, but after, it looks great! My favorite Ralphs to go to now. The fruits and vegetable selections are great! This Ralphs now has a Coffee Bean in it, which I love! I really haven't had to deal with their service, but as far as I have experienced, their cashiers, workers, and deli workers are pretty friendly. One thing I will say though is sometimes Register 7 doesn't take our Debit Card, which is so weird because it works at other places with no problem (ATM, gas stations, etc.) but it's happened twice already where we've gotten "declined" for our debit card that we KNOW has money in there. We went to another register the week after and used the same "declined" card and it worked fine, so I don't know if there's something up with that register and it's not picking up the card. Anyhow, back to the content. Ralphs is a bit more expensive compared to other grocery stores, and we do shop at Costco for our other needs. However, if you sign up for their Rewards, you get coupons that many times, cater to the things you frequently buy (kind of weird, that they track that, but I guess it helps them and us). They also give you $5 and $10 off purchases. You also get the discount prices when you have the card, plus the card is free so why not? Overall, I love this Ralphs, the cleanliness, the selection, the Coffee Bean and the convenience of the location! read more

I came to this Ralph's for one thing and one thing only to use the bathroom. I walked in and asked a courteously clerk where the bathroom was and he happily directed me to the far wall by produce. I walked into the bathroom and it looked like a bathroom in Twin Towers County Jail when we used to go down there to book people in. There was garbage everywhere. The mirror and toilet seat had etched graffiti into it. There was barely any soap, the floor was disgusting. Wet rolled up paper towels were scattered about the floor, who knows what they were wet with, GROSS GROSS GROSS. I was almost afraid to touch anything. This bathroom had a maintenance record on the door which seemed to be filled out. I guess they are in the business of filling out the maintenance record and not actually doing the maintenance. The Ralph's itself was pretty large and seemed clean. The crowd seemed like your normal West L.A. crowd. The parking was free and plenty of it. This Ralph's had a RedBox, a Wells Fargo and a Coffee Bean inside. I hope I will never have to come back here. read more

New to Westwood, I needed some supplies and I was having trouble finding a "real" supermarket. CVS is everywhere but kind of limited selection. TJ's up by UCLA is great, but they don't sell everything (sadly). I tried going to the Vons nearest my pad, and it was just as bad as the Yelp rating (1.5 stars) said it would be. Enter Ralph's. Normally I'm a Vons man, but this Ralph's made me a fan. The market is huge. Clean and well kept inside. TONS of selection. Their seafood and meat selection figuratively knocked my socks off. They had fresh wild sockeye salmon ON SALE and it was DELICIOUS. They also have restaurant grade cuts of beef. Everything looked fantastic! Really high quality food/produce, fantastic selection of name brands, blah blah blah. This is my go-to for anything I can't find at Trader Joe's. read more

So, I drove over there at midnight to pick up a snack last week. Parking lot is relatively empty, but there's a guy walking right down the middle of the lane. No cars around, so I go way around the guy, find a spot near the entrance, and park. Turns out it was a Ralph's security guard. He proceeds to walk up to me and say "Yo, you got a problem? Why you do that shit?" Real professional, buddy. I said "no, no problem at all." I go inside, he follows me. I find my stuff, make my purchase, and he's waiting for me at the self-checkout aisle, mean-mugging me as I leave. I just laughed. He follows me outside... and I quote: "If I wasn't on the clock, I'd beat yo ass, f*ggot!" This is right in front of other customers walking in and out of the store. I laughed harder, and this elicited a string of homophobic screeching from the moron, who continued to threaten me as I walked away. He actually didn't quit yelling "f*ggot" at me until my car was completely out of the lot and back onto Barrington Ave. I called Ralph's corporate, and they did absolutely nothing about the situation. This place is very large and clean and perfect if you're looking for pre-packaged foods. They have a small organic section as well as a good supplement section and a wide assortment of organic teas. I have only recently started shopping for fresh vegetables, and I must say, their vegetables SUCK... and the jalapenos are almost always soft. While there's nothing wrong with the store's selection and layout, the customer service I encountered this week was TERRIBLE. I will not be returning to this store, where I had been a regular customer for over 10 years. Manager David N. does not understand Ralphs digital coupons which are loaded onto your Ralphs discount card. He did not understand that my digital coupons had not expired yet, and he made me show him the coupons on my BlackBerry rather than looking at his store's ads in their weekly circular. He questioned my honesty. He asked me strange questions, and when I was too surprised to answer him, he told me I was giving him "attitude" and he was "giving it back." All of this confusion arose from the fact that the manager doesn't understand Ralphs own digital coupon system!!?? I have emailed Ralphs Corporate Customer Service, and they had David's boss call me to discuss further, which I appreciate. I love everything about this Ralph's, but the service. It's WAY too slow. I've been coming to this location over 15 years, a lot of the deli employees are the same. When people are here, they're usually on their lunch break or headed to work. The employees need to realize that. Quick, friendly & efficient service is what's needed. this is for the pharmacy. I've been going to to that location for 20 years. Last week they "forgot" to fill a prescription my doctor had just phoned in, so I said I had five pills in my purse, enough to last me until Friday, and I'd be there on Sat. to pick it up. Pharmacy Tech agreed to fill by Sat. Went at noon today, and they said it wasn't ready. C'mon, you had 6 days!!! I really like their floral department. The lady who worked that section today was very helpful and she found me while I was waiting in line to tell me she could transfer the specific planter I liked. For the floral department 5 stars! Lovely display and great attitude. Now, the deli department and is a different story. Zero stars there. The deli is rude and seem to hate their jobs and the customers. I have filed for divorce from Ralph's -- in fact, the entire Kroger company. In this week's circular (but I first noticed online) that Ralph's has elected not to double coupon anymore and it has also decided to change their reward card system to a fuel card system. Apparently, Ralph's would like its customers to pass gas AFTER we do our shopping. Shell gas stations are higher than Mobile, Chevron, Union and Arco. I never patronize Shell and there would be no reason to with the new fuel rewards card. Ralph's would like us to incur more debt by signing up with their Visa card which would then allow us to continue receiving a check every quarter for shopping at their store and also receiving in-store coupons. Forget it. I will now shop at the 99 cents only store, Big Lots, Dollar Tree and Gelson's. I have no doubt people will begin to boycott Ralph's, particularly those customers who don't even drive which would be a real waste of a fuel rewards card. Wise up Ralph's. Everyone knows you're trying to fatten your bottom line and make your shareholders happy and I for one am sick and tired of your CEOs, COO's and CP 3 Oh's getting fat bonuses, stocks, options and millions off the backs of us customers. The store is awesome! Customer service at checkout is also Awesome! My 1 star review is for the Deli Counter gentleman by the name of David. I've been holding off doing a review because I think that people deserve a 2nd chance. In this case, a 3rd! He seems to be a veteran employee and always has a chip on his shoulder. You go to the deli or restaurant after a long day at work and just want to get your food and/or be served. He always just doesn't want to seem like he wants to help. I wrote this review after taking a second thought and what finally occurred. There was one gentleman ahead of me. Being helped by somebody else. He was in the back doing something. He finally came forward and did not acknowledge me. Then after viewing 2 others take numbers (possible regulars) decided to help them....knowing that I was next! I live in Santa Monica and I choose and prefer to drive to this Ralph's rather than going to the Ralph's closer to my house because of their selection and staff! Their store overall is absolutely exceptional! The selection in products throughout their store is so amazing! They have items you can't find in any other Ralph's within the same area. For example, pre-packaged platters for those last minute get togethers. This Ralph's has a larger variety other than your basic platters with just veggies or cheese. Their deli department is also great! I have gone during their lunch rush and yes a lot of people go but their staff manages to stay humble and kind! They ensure they have your order right. This may take a little longer but i I would rather wait an extra minute or 2 and have my order right the first time rather than arriving back at my office and then realize it is missing something. I have gone to other Ralph's during their lunch rush and I can say no other Ralph's can compare to this Ralph's during lunch, or any other time as a matter of fact. read more

I come here frequently for cheap food (it's a grocery store) and Coffee Bean coffee in the morning. I can grab a yogurt and fresh fruit at grocery store prices and a premium coffee. At a CBTL location, I'd pay more for yogurt and fresh fruit is limited. I don't live in the area but if I did, I'd go here and Trader Joe's across the street. This Ralph's is huge! And if you're young and single, it's probably a great place to meet people. read more

I love the parking and the produce selection is pretty. The worst part about shopping here is the pre-made food, sandwich and deli meat section. For some reason there is always a shortage of workers here even tho there are always a ton of customers waiting. I have never gotten a number ticket that wasn't at least 8-10 away from the one they are currently working at. I've noticed especially around lunch time is crowded and for some reason, there seems to fewer workers. I know they need to measure the temperature of prepared food items for health and sanitation reasons, but if there is only one lady actually helping people, maybe the other worker measuring food temps should help out w the line of people. Instead of groceries, I come to this location for the Boars Head deli sandwiches. For $6.99, you can get a FAT sandwich about 5" thick that's impossible to bite through in one bite. Pick your meat (they slice the meat to order -- tastes yummy when you ask for a thicker cut), cheese, and pile on as many vegetables as you want on your bread of choice. I've fallen in love with their Italian & Cordon Bleu Chicken Breast sandwiches. Word on the street... Kiki and Michael are the master sandwich makers at this joint. read more

Wow, this is a great Ralph's - it is well stocked, clean and it's easy to find things. It is pretty crowded but they opened more check stands pretty quickly and I got in and out. Compared to my other Ralph's this is 1000% better. There are a lot of elderly shoppers and a lot of them seem to drive to the store, so BE CAREFUL in the parking lot. They seem to just back up regardless of whether it is clear or not. I almost got hit 3 times and I am in a bright RED smart car!! Anyway, I just exercised caution and patience and we all survived.. The Checkers are very nice and they have the self checkout too. read more
