Great market with great prices. My boyfriend and I had lunch there before doing our shopping. Two huge chicken quesadillas and two carnitas tacos came to $21. We still have enough for another lunch. We purchased 2.5 pounds of diced pork from the meat counter; 3 Monster beverages; 3 yellow onions; 5 pasilla peppers; and large package of homemade flour tortillas for $25. There are lots of pre-made Mexican goodies here, like tamales, several kinds of ceviche, all kinds of chicken, shrimp cocktails, several different salsas, guacamole, soups, even hot chocolate! They have a nice bakery, a tortillaria, and a great assortment of chiles and peppers. Beans and rice are also sold in bulk. This is our go-to place for fresh Mexican ingredients. Northgate on Inglewood is a great location. Recently remodeled/updated layout and is great. Staff are usually pretty friendly and helpful. Overall just can't beat their food and prices are pretty good. Great selection. Extremely overpriced and I was double charged in the self help checkout. In my car I looked at the receipt, and it charged me twice for a bag of cherries. I went back in, showed the receipt to the man at the self checkout. He asked a cashier to refund me and the "system" did not refund the full amount. The cashier made some lame excuse, for the difference from the self checkout to the regular cashier. Shop elsewhere. read more

I love all their store brand salsas!!!! You must try them! I tried their aguachile and was able to sample the juices before selecting which one to buy. I loved both the aguachili sinaloa and the aguachile negro. I chose the negro! The agua frescas all looked really refreshing too! I came home and added the aguachile to top off my chopped salad and it was delicious! I think these aguachiles can be a fabulous Bloody Mary, or if you want soup, just add water! Northgate is always a fun place to browse and shop. read more

Nonstop Noise, No Accountability. The nonstop drone of the refrigerator trailer unit they run externally from the side of their building is so loud and nerve wracking to the ears and nervous system. It runs for hours every single day or night, 365 days throughout the year. Turning an otherwise quiet neighborhood into something that sounds more like the back of a warehouse or construction site. Between that and loud music from food trucks and activity in the parking lot, the calm of the neighborhood has been shattered by this grocery store. The families living near this market (like me), many of which I'm sure shop or have shopped here (like me) deserve peace, respect, and basic consideration from a business operating in a residential neighborhood. Instead, we are subjected to constant, industrial-level noise that rarely lets up. It's hard to want to continue giving them any business until this changes. Open windows are out of the question. Fresh air is almost impossible. I've resorted to wearing earplugs inside my own home just to sleep or think clearly when the trailer is running. Over a year ago, management told us this would be fixed "in a few days." That promise was never kept. Even after major renovations, the noise continues. That tells me this business is not interested in being a good neighbor or showing any real care for the community it profits from. This is a residential area, not a commercial depot. No business should be allowed to disrupt the lives of its neighbors like this. read more

Love Northgate! Parking lot can be a bit of an evil challenge but I always survive. Good grocery prices, big produce section, decent tacos, excellent seafood, amazing homemade guacamole and salsa. Always my go to when I'm headed to a party and want to be extra popular. Also love the chili rellenos. Nice after the remodel too. read more

Northgate Market is the best if you want Mexican food, produce and things you will not get elsewhere. They also have everything else you would get at any good market. The place is just spotless. They are always cleaning and it shows. The produce is amazing and they have a selection of peppers you simply won't find at a typical market. They have a large section of hot food. You can get it there and just leave or continue shopping. The selection is really amazing and the prices are low. They have the best tamales and their rice and beans are so great. They have a lot of hot items and sometimes there is a line, but it moves fast. You will be happy with everything. As to the main market area they have good prices on things you would want to get at a regular market and a vast selection of Spanish and Mexican items, be they canned or fresh. It is easy to park in their large lot. The service is great. I have never seen an employee that does not look happy and they are all so kind. You will love this place. We do. read more

I've been going to Northgate Market in Culver City for years and for as long as I can remember, the cashier Araceli (Araceli Lopez) has always been so rude and disrespectful. This time, however, I feel the need to write a review about my experience with her in hopes that she stops treating customers so poorly. I took my elderly mother to buy her groceries and upon check out, Araceli did not double bag groceries despite having heavy items. You would imagine this would be common sense for her not to do, instead she put milk, eggs and other heavy items in one paper bag. There was no bagger present so I put my mom's groceries in the basket and when I did, one of the bags ripped and the food fell on the floor. Araceli didn't bother to help. Instead, the customer behind me helped me. I politely asked Araceli to have groceries double bagged and to my disbelief, she very annoyingly raised her voice and said to me rudely, "You need to bring your own bags. The paper bags always rip they are not plastic anymore" She completely missed the point. I told her this was not the first time since plastic bags were discontinued that I shop there and my groceries are double bagged in paper bag and not once have they ripped when doubled. She rolled her eyes and told me, "well it's too much work for me to have to unfold bags and double bag" I reminded her that's her job and she brushed me off telling me to leave the store because bagging was not her job. I will not be returning to Northgate at this location. This level of customer service is degrading and gives the market a bad look to hire unprofessional, rude and disrespectful people that treat customers so poorly. read more

Definitely get the chicken tacos. Portions are bigger than your typical taco stand and portions are generous. Depending on the time of day and batch, chicken can be slightly dry but overall it's way better than the chicken tacos in the area. Don't forget to ask for pickled jalapeños on the side (complimentary). Worth it! read more

I have been coming to this store for many years. They recently remodeled and added so much to more to it. I am amazed at how far they have come. The store is gorgeous. The produce is and always has been the best in town. I shop at many other stores, and not many can match what Northgate offers. And I'm taking quality and price. I like that you will find not only Mexican products, but products from Argentina, El Salvador, and middle eastern as well. This is a place where a family like mine, multicultural, can shop with ease. We don't have to go to different stores in one day just to shop for dinner. What is most important and always has been to me, is the service. There is not one person who works here that has ever been rude. And I'm not just talking about now, I mean in the last 20 years that I've been coming here. They have such professionalism and grace. That almost leaves me speechless in today's world. You ask for help finding a product, they walk you to it and if they are out they double check with others before telling you it's not available, they have given me suggestions when it comes to asking for an opinion, a genuine one, everything they do is with the best attitude and a smile. I remember seeing this market years ago when I had to stop at the school across the street. I recently visited the store and it is very nice with a wide variety of Mexican groceries and food items. I picked up some flan, tres leches, guacamole, ceviche, tamales, beans, rice, tortillas, and tortilla chips. This market is certainly worth a visit. read more

The food is absolutely delicious here. I've never disappointed when I come to this location I've gone to the other location. The staff is very knowledgeable of their products which I do appreciate that and very attentive. The store is very tidy and clean. It would've been a five star but I just don't like the fact they have self check out it just eliminates hospitality, which the store has a lot of hospitality, and it makes it look tacky, but overall I love the store more than a Olympic and Hoover location. I wish they would train all their staff from that location to this location because the customer service is on point here read more

Went to north gate for the first time yesterday and I'm definitely coming back. Where I'm from we have super A foods or tressierras but this is my first time coming to a north gate market. I haven't been able to find a good carniceria or place to get my Mexican candy and food near my area and now I have one. I went to get some of their ranchera carne asada so I can cook it at home and it was delicious. Only issue I had with it is at super a foods they marinate the meat for free and here they charge so much more to just marinate which was dumb so I had to knock off a star for that one. I also got some of their pan dulce which was surprisingly good since I'm used to just buying my pan from a panadería. Plenty of parking and wait time wasn't too long when it was time to pay. read more

Uncertainty at dinner time drove us to This market. We found some marinated boneless chicken for tacos. Super excited they make tortillas in house. They were warm to go. We also bought fixings for a warm elote casserole. Rounded the meal out with a slaw with jalapeños and cilantro. A very basic vinaigrette made it a delicious meal. I grilled the chicken for tacos. A very nice meal. The store was hopping on a Sunday afternoon. The staff was friendly and helpful. The store was a bit rough but I did not go here for the ambiance. Great market with really good prices on produce and meat, but their self checkout lanes are super sensitive to any irregularity at all. I have to get approval every time I check out which slows things down tremendously and makes the entire shopping experience uncomfortable. You also sometimes have to scan your receipt to get out of the self checkout lane. I understand why these countermeasures exist, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it can be very uncomfortable to check out with this much security. read more

Experience: I came to this market because I wanted to make a bolillo sandwich with carne asada and I was working at a site only 3 minutes down the street. I took the opportunity to get some fresh bread from the bakery and meat from the butcher, instead of the regular grocery market I generally go to. I arrived a little before 3pm on a weekday, it was pretty busy. The butcher had a line of about 10 people in front of me, and most aisles had a line for checkout. Regardless, I love walking through cultural markets. The music, produce, ingredients, people, languages, it's such an experience unique to LA, a diverse city indeed. Supplies: Although I didn't browse every aisle, I feel the store was well equipped with the things I generally see at a Mexican market. I just so happen to go when a fresh hot batch of bolillo bread was placed in the bins. There was steam all around the bin. The bread was so soft, warm on the inside, it was perfect for my sandwich. The butcher selection was okay. I don't remember seeing lengua, cow tongue, and some other cuts, but they did have carne asada, marinated and non marinated. It was fresh, well cut, and once I seasoned and cooked it, came out really juicy. Parking: They do have a decent sized lot right off of Olympic. Only down side is if you are there after 3pm, it may get a little tricky getting onto Olympic because of traffic. Verdict: I wouldn't go here to shop for my regular groceries as I feel it's too expensive, but I would absolutely come back for the meat, bread, and any specific Mexican ingredients that I need. read more

I absolutely love this market!! The staff is always so friendly and helpful. The food is always fresh and delicious. They have pan dulce, champurrado, atole, tamale bar, ceviche and my favorite aguachiles. They also sell fresh fruit, salsas and guacamole. This place has become my new go to for shopping. This place had a makeover and I'm on board !! Whoa, I didn't know what to expect, but I like it. One of the unexpected places to shop for on the Westside. Has a fresh taqueria that pumps out fresh tortillas all day and if you go over and ask, they will give you a sample fresh off the belt. Soooo good! The produce is always being restocked due to quantity of sale - not surprising because it's fresh and priced competitively. The food bar is another one of my favorites, can't go wrong with anything. I love coming here. So many authentic Mexican and Latin American products, most at a reasonable cost. The produce today was beautiful, so many dried chiles that were shiny and red. The tomatillos were fresh and green. Salsa tomorrow will be delicious. The green beans were huge and so crisp. We came after the morning bolillos were gone and we were 45 minutes too early for the afternoon batch The tortillas are fresh off of the machine. Tomorrow being Día de los Reyes Magos, there were fresh warm Roscas everywhere. Our oven broke and I was going to buy one, but there were so many artificial ingredients, that I didn't. I also got tamales elsewhere because although these are more authentic and a better selection, I don't eat lard There are lots of healthy authentic ingredients if you cook, but there are fewer vegan, vegetarian or special diet prepared items. on NYE i was on a mission to look for ingredients for my traditional greens and black eyed peas and amongst my search I learned culver city has a northgate! although i did not find what i was looking for unfortunately, i am very happy to find another grocery store near by that has produce i enjoy and a place to get fresh tortillas. its a smaller sized location than what i've experienced, however the store was clean, smelled fresh, and employees were friendly. works for me! read more

Had a pleasant experience at this Northgate Market. Convenient location, friendly people, and delicious tamales. In a pinch, these tamales are superb. Delicious and tender. Definitely not grandma's recipe, but if you're looking for something familiar, this is it! They have multiple items to choose from in their hot bar too. Between the pan dulce, carnicería, and fresh tortillas, why wouldn't you shop here? The store was remodeled recently and looks exquisite. From reading other reviews, it seems to have needed it for a while. The store was clean and open, with all the conveniences of a grocery store. I cannot wait to return and shop some more. read more

I have been reluctant about writing this review as I come here for a few specified items. Sometimes they are out of them. So selfishly I didn't want to share...my bad. In the spirit that Yelp is about sharing your experiences I will post here that the Chili Relleno's at the hot food counter are my favorite. I believe the cost is now $4.99 each but I remember way back when they were $2.99. I have tried other items also and they have introduced me to cactus in either the carnitas or the chicken. I also get containers of rice and beans to take home. So delicious. They also have handmade tortillas and fresh containers of guacamole. But you have to get their homemade 8oz or 16oz salsas right opposite the checkout counters. I love their produce section for fresh cilantro, tomatoes, various types of onions, Jalapeño's, Serrano's and occasionally avocados. I have an enormous Fuerte avocado tree that gives me huge fruit from November through April. No pictures this time (we've eaten it all), but now that I've let my secret out I will post pictures next time. There is a huge parking lot and the market associates are always helpful.
