This location is very convenient. I usually shop late and its never busy during those times. Its right next to work and I come here often. Since its in Downtown, SD its difficult to find parking in the surrounding areas. So the underneath parking structure is a blessing. They do have free parking for Ralphs customers. This Ralph's has all you need in a grocery store. They have a small Starbucks inside too. Their Deli area is one of the better ones inside a Ralph's. The Pizza here is really good for the price. Also once in a while I will treat myself to a slab of Pork Ribs. Very good ribs for the price. Also after the Deli closes, they will offer some un-bought Deli items sold at a discount. Many times I have scored on some good food for 50% off the regular price. One time I bought about 6 chimichangas for 2 bucks. The meat section is small, but again they have some specials for some quality chicken and beef products. After a few days they will discount whole chicken and some prime cuts of steak. Even though I'm stocked up at home, I will purchase the discounted products because the prices are too good. I have bought some quality steak at deep discount prices. The alcohol and wine section is very good. Prices are fair too. The employees are nice here. Always willing to smile and ensure me if I was able to find what I was looking for. Some things are expensive, but take the time to look and they have many discounted items mixed in. It also helps to have a Ralph's card. The location closes late too. Considering its downtown, their is a homeless population in the surrounding areas and at times inside. No big issue for me, but they are present. Plenty of security inside and SDPD mini-station close by if this helps. Overall, I like this Ralphs. read more

Sadly, I really do like this ralphs. I was just screwed over by the management however so I gotta vote in the other direction. Here's the setup. Essentially I had left a pair of headphones at this store. They were a pair of Sony Crossfade LP so they had their own carrying case. I had taken them out of my bad and placed the case on the counter in order to reorganize and didn't put them back in my bag. When I had come back and talked with the same counter person, he said he had found them and he had given them to his boss Daniel. I was ecstatic. However to my dismay, this is where everything goes wrong. 'Oh, yeah I remember those I had put them up on the rack next to the chips.' First alarm. Of course we can't find them and the efforts of two other workers is wasted in searching. So strange that we couldn't find them. Of course my first question as logic would dictate, 'So why were they left up here with the chips?' 'Well I had a customer to help so I just set them there, and it was only like 5 mins and well they're gone.' Second alarm. So in Daniel's infinite wisdom, he decided to leave a pair of $100+ headphones on an unattended shelf where anyone can access and grab them. Did any of the other workers have knowledge that they were there? No. Could he have left them back at the managers area if he really was so busy? Yes. Did he? Obviously not. Could he have told the customer 'excuse me one second' while he put the personal property back at the area? Yes. Could he have handed them off to another worker to bring to wherever their lost and found area is? Yes. The possibilities are endless really, I could go on for days over what could have been, what should have been, and what it was not. Knowing that it was his negligence that had lost my property in the long run I had asked if there was any way to get reimbursed. 'No, man you left em here.' So even if I had left them and you found them and somehow lost them again, it's my fault. 'Well, you can fill out a card with your name and number and if someone brings them in we'll notify you.' So essentially if you lose something in the store and a worker finds it, anyone can lay claim to it including themselves whereby they will try to placate the unsuspecting customer by saying 'It's your fault anyway, but here. Fill out this card so that we will not call you to let you know we might have taken it or our actions directly lead to its disappearance.' I'd rather have not known that they had found it at all. I would've been disappointed but yes I did leave them there in the first place. That's my fault. I can accept my mistakes. Knowing that this idiot fucked me over, especially as a manager, really grinds my gears. My second point of contention in this is that he could have owned up to his own mistake. I'm an honorable person and wont hold it against someone if he/she made a poor decision in retrospect, especially when the consequences aren't terribly great. Though it was a poor decision, I made it and I apologize. Simple sentence right? Nope, I don't even receive that little gratification. All I have are my own regrets, and the knowledge that my hopes were raised and then instantly dashed in a matter of minutes due to the sheer ignorance of one person. I think its just my niche in life to get railed by the incompetence and negligence of others since this scenario keeps repeating. I can only hope that there is more care and consideration put into the hiring of those in leadership in the future. If critical thinking, problem solving, people skills, and sound judgment are things that they do not search for within individuals that work at their establishments (especially those put into leadership positions) I fear for the future of the company. read more

The dim lighting and black accents of this location reminded me of Zupan's back home in PDX, but looking at the products available this is part of the Kroger chain of supermarkets. They have a nice selection of fruits and veggies, as well as organic produce. Prices seemed.. Well, I don't know. This was my first time in San Diego so I don't know how the prices are around town. The salad and deli area seemed the most active. It enticed me as well, so I went and got a large salad for dinner. The aisles throughout the store are clean and wide, plus I saw a number of workers as I wandered the aisles who were helping out other customers. Their gluten-free products are well labeled, but they do not have a dedicated section for them other than in the baking items area (I think) - rather, a lot of them are scattered throughout the aisles in their product designations. Maybe it's because I was in California, but I saw a number of items which I've never seen before. This included chicken a la king in a can. Chicken a la king! read more

My favorite of all of the Ralphs and other supermarkets too. Constant sales of frozen foods and fruit and sales and discounts on all merchandise too. Great salad bar. Good pharmacy where you can fill prescriptions and get flu shots. The staff is helpful and they have good security. Always open. Easy to park, just drive into their underground parking, which has good security too. The best selection of fruits and vegetables I have seen at any local market. I often park in the lot and then walk across the street to a Wells Fargo branch to get cash, then go back to Ralphs and shop. The staff is friendly and helpful. This store's customers are a cross section of San Diego's population, rich, poor, all races, locals and tourists and I especially like going there because of that feeling of so many types of people together buying food for their tables and being friendly and helpful to each other. read more

Nicely laid out grocery store. Wowsers the isles are long but a little narrow so if you get more then a couple of people in one of the isles you'll have to ask one of them to move for you. Lots of items and the deli looks nice and hugeness. Was visiting a friend at the nearby Horizons High Rise Condos and needed a few items. This is my neighborhood grocery store, so it's where we typically end up when we need fresh produce or the like mid-week. I like what they did with the remodel a year or so ago - it looks more upscale than it did before. The deli counter has an okay variety, in both the cold and hot food item arena, but we don't usually get food from there. If we're going ready-to-eat, we typically pull something from the "sushi counter" situated across from the deli. I like their rice bowls and the salads, but steer clear from the sushi, unless I see the chef. You just never know how long those things have been sitting out, you know? They have a good selection of cheeses, the produce is fresh, and the prices aren't terrible, though there may be a bit of a hike due to their location. They also have a lot of different bread items in the bakery, which I appreciate. They make this multigrain roll that is delicious, and at only $4 a pack, it's a bargain. Their liquor selection leaves a little to be desired, but if you're looking for a quick beer or wine fix, it works. The people who work there are typically friendly and helpful, though it can sometimes be a task finding someone who can answer any questions you might have. It can be a chore navigating the parking lot sometimes, because it can get busy and people tend to freak out when they have to park their car next to a pillar, but it's big enough that you should have no problems finding a spot. read more

I'm in San Diego for comic con and going to a grocery store to stock up is always a good idea. This location is in walking distance and people are very friendly. Compared to Minnesota grocery stores I feel like they have a larger selection in alcohol, which really doesn't matter to me but it matters to my brother and sister. The only thing that bugs me is that you need a Ralph card in order to qualify for the good deals or reasonable pricing. The cashier was nice and helped us out with this. I have been to this Ralph's many times to purchase alcohol and gift cards for my office work to purchase with the company credit card, that happens to have a different name on it than mine. I go in on Tuesday 1/8/2O to purchase the same products that I have in the past. The checker would not allow me to use the card because I did not have any information that I worked where the company credit card says on the card. So I go back to the office to print out my information that shows I work there. I head back to the checker and get the same products and again I was not able to purchase my products. It is not illegal to use a credit card that I am allowed to use when I have proper ID of where I work and my driver license. I have over 10 years of grocery experience working for Albertsons, Haggens , Gelsons and Vons with in the past 20 years. So Ralph's is getting 1 star from me. I would say none. Which is fun when you have lots of produce and alcohol. The lady scanned my groceries and left all of the items loose in the cart. She said they won't bag groceries "this early". GIFT CARDS - BEWARE OF PURCHASING!!! I own a small business in the San Diego area of CA. Before Christmas 2021 I purchased $2000 worth of Gift Cards (Visa) (about 15 cards) for my employees from my local Ralphs Grocery Store. I distributed them the next day. About 75% of my employees that got the cards reported to me that they were compromised when they received them. By this, I mean that they had already been used and depleted of any credit. Several employees cards were usable. I had held back three cards (envelop un-opened) and, to see if this was true, opened one and immediately tried to use it. It had no funds available. My assumption is that these bad cards were already used and compromised probably by hackers either at Ralphs or with VISA. Several employees called Visa and they were offered a lengthy and complicated 3 to 4 month solution to get new cards. It involved several hours worth of paperwork and over ten pages of paperwork and research (I've been told). This not only created a severed headache for me but disappointment for those who didn't get their Christmas gift. So, I contacted Ralph's management and they didn't want to get involved nor offer assistance or relief of any kind. I then contacted Visa and was put on endless waits and referrals to others. Out of frustration, I called my credit card company (Am Exp) - the card I used to pay for the gift cards. I gave a lengthy report on what had happened. I was able for a few weeks to back-charge the purchase charge but this was arbitrarily reversed by American Express without a phone call, email or letter from anyone to me or my company. Remember, this is a credit company problem and they seem to protect themselves. So, my only recourse is to sue both Kroger and Visa - which costs more than the purchase. BOTTOM LINE: BEWARE OF GIFT CARDS AND DEFINITELY DO NOT BUY FROM RALPHS GROCERY STORE (KROGER) AND DO NOT BUY VISA CARDS!!! I'd recommend giving cash instead and avoid this $2000 loss that I've taken with neither Ralphs (Kroger) nor Visa willing to help on their own insecure system. read more

Review for Salad Bar: This location has a great salad bar selection!!! It is much better than the Ralph's in PB. They have everything I LOVE: chicken, sliced almonds, raw egg, bacon, blue cheese, oil & vinegar (lots of dressing choices if you don't use oil and vinegar), spinach (lettuce if you want, spring mix and/ or romaine), and tons of FRESH veggies! The best thing is you serve it yourself and pay as you weigh. The only CON is the price. $7.99 a pound is pricey. Filling up the clear plastic container it came out to $12.94!! However, I did make a HUGE salad to split with my boyfriend. We had a very cute date and I love how you can sit outside on a nice sunny San Diego day! It's a good lunch spot for us! :) Love it! beware of alex in the seafood department at ralph's 101 g street downtown san diego, ca. october 27 2023 was my 1st horrible encounter...i wanted wild caught sockeye salmon...alex starts picking his nose , while asking me which pieces did i want..i'm looking at alex in total disbelief . i asked alex why was he picking his nose while handling the fish ??? alex nonchalantly told me that his nose itched because of his nose ring ...i almost lost it . i told him that he's not allowed to to do that ...he had the audacity to get angry and stormed off . i requested management and george came out with this condescending grin on his face asking me what was wrong . when i noticed that george didn't wash his hands either , i summons the store mgr , who then called someone else in . they washed their hands and got me other fish . alex thinks that he can get away with picking his nose while serving food because he's in a union . ridiculous ..we've tested them again and alex continues to fail . i've watched him come from behind fish counter and worked the floor and go right behind fish counter to serve fish . you should see them wash and dry their hands before serving you. the sink is in clear eyesight just to the left of entry behind counter ...alex never went there . i imagine if he can excuse himself for picking his nose directly in front of me , he could take a dump and go straight to touching the food . i called corporate and corporate said that they were sending the complaints to the store at 101 g street , downtown san diego. be aware of nasty filthy and filthy nose picker , snot could be dripping from filthy alex's nose . read more

Next I needed fork to it that food but they did not have them and again I had to go after personnel but they referred me one to another and as result no one help. Was staying at the San Diego Wyndham Bayside and wanted to get some beer and grocery items for the room, as restaurants on the Embarcadero are extremely expensive. We placed an order online to be delivered. It was acknowledged and our delivery time was to be between 3:30 and 5:30, so we stayed in our room to wait. The website said our order had been delivered and the front desk people spent an hour trying to chase it down. At that point, we contacted the store and were told it hadn't gone out yet, but they would get it there within 1/2 hour and would give us a 10% discount. When it still didn't arrive, we checked the website to find our order had been cancelled. Thanks Ralph's for making us waste an afternoon of our vacation and making some front desk people go on a wild goose chase :( read more

This review is specific to the Pizza department not the entire store. On Thursday, July 13, 2017 I called Ralph's (owned by Kroger) located at 101 G Street, San Diego, California at 3:53PM, according to my Verizon Wireless cell phone records. I spoke to someone on the phone and asked to be transferred to the deli department to place a pizza order. I was told to hold and was on hold for 11 (eleven) minutes. Someone came back on the phone, I said hello and the person hung up. At 4:03PM I called back and then hung up deciding to go in person to the store that is a few blocks from my apartment. When I arrived at the store I took a number (J72) in the deli line. When I was waited on I explained the situation to two different pizza servers and no one seemed to know the culprit who answered the phone and/or who hung up on me. I was told by them that the female that makes the pizza has already "put her stuff away". After waiting for another five minutes, the young lady who they dubbed "the queen of pizza making" arrived and provided me a preprinted label so that I could check out at the register. She said it would take 20-25 minutes to make the pizza. I said okay and I walked to check out at the register. After checking out at the register my daughter and I went to the customer service area and spoke with Edwin Cruz, a manager. I explained to Mr. Cruz what happened and told him that I didn't understand why the young lady was the ONLY pizza maker and why she stopped making pizza at 4:00PM. He mentioned that 4:00PM was the end of her 8 (eight) hour shift and that he was sorry. He said he was going to talk with the pizza department regarding the incident. I explained to him that I did not think the pizza department had anything to do with the phone call situation and me being hung up on but yes they had to do with the 25 minute wait. He said he was sorry and I told him that I did not believe that he would do anything about the incident and that I would take it further in the chain of command. He said okay. He went on to the next customer who was waiting in the customer service area. read more

This has to be one of the WORST Ralph's in Southern California. Almost every time I visit, there are no carts available. Whenever I ask a question or need assistance from the staff, they act like they cannot be bothered. I have approached the Store Managers and General Manager on several occasions and they always have the same unacceptable response--"I'm sorry, but..." On my last visit I let them know about not having any carts available again, while holding a 2 page shopping list in my hand. The Manager merely said that 30 carts have been stolen. That was it... no offer to try to find one so I could shop. Needless to say I filled up a small hand basket of about 8 items, checked out and did the remainder of my shopping at Albertson's down the street where there were plenty of carts and friendly, helpful service (the bill came to $350 btw). I'm certain they are losing business by the day, as the store is surrounded by luxury high-rises filled with residents who are fed up with the lack of service and have decided to take their business elsewhere. I'm reviewing Ralph's pharmacy at this downtown location. I recently moved and changed my prescriptions to Ralph's simply because it is the closest pharmacy to my home. How lucky for me that this facility is particularly well-run and efficient! I was very impressed by the store manager, Dr. Chancellor Charette. On my behalf, he untangled a clerical error made by my Medicare plan. You may know how difficult it is dealing with an insurer and trying to correct a problem. I was very grateful that Dr. Charette offered to do this for me. He could have sent me on my way to solve it on my own. It was a customer experience I did not expect from a big chain pharmacy. ( I'd come from a small, independent pharmacy.) Dr. also advised me on some immunizations that I needed, and he administered my flu shot. I believe I'll have a very good relationship with this place! read more

I always look for a convenience store or grocery near my hotel. So glad that Ralph's was so close to the Marriott. Great selection of healthy prepared foods and bulk items. There was no pen at the bulk station to write down the SKU. just took a photo with my phone so I could check out more efficiently. Found myself wandering a bit checking it all out. There were at least 10 self-checkout registers which made it a quick process. If you're not accustomed to taking your own shopping bags, be prepared before you go. They do sell heavier than usual (reusable) bags at check out. read more

Very pleased with the bakery department at this Ralph's. I walked in, in need of a custom cake to be done by the next day & the gal at the bakery was more than accommodating. I chose a cake design that was on a square cake & asked if they could transfer the same design onto a circle cake. It was not a problem for them. When I returned the next day the cake was done and ready for pick up. The cake was delicious it fed about 10 people, with leftovers to take home. I will definitely be ordering from this bakery in the future. read more

This review is just for the Poke Bowl. The salmon ahi Poke bowl had adequate amount of both salmon and ahi , but was not marinated. It only had a little drizzle of sauce on the fish which was sorely inadequate. Tasted just like plain raw fish with no flavor. It had plenty of rice and the imitation crab was very good.
