At check-in, we were told guests wouldn't receive key cards -- staff had to escort everyone to their rooms. This meant we also couldn't access outdoor areas or hotel facilities on our own, which was extremely inconvenient. When I mentioned this and asked if guests would be compensated, the front desk manager Courtney laughed with a coworker and said their "rates are low enough." That's a strange comment when you're paying $300 a night in Rome, NY. She claimed my card was declined even though I'd already checked in through the app and had a room number. After I set my phone down to grab my card, she yelled at me for "slamming" it. When I asked her name, she refused to tell me and ignored my daughter when she asked for the WiFi code. Because we're Hilton members, we were told we could choose something from the reward box -- Courtney rolled her eyes and said, "Ugh, you're members, you can pick something." Later, I found out she told another guest my full name and talked about me. Completely unprofessional and a major privacy violation. The GM apologized, but the damage was done. I couldn't wait to leave. Bottom line: if you want to be ridiculed, and have your personal information shared, go see Courtney. Otherwise -- when in Rome, don't do as Courtney does.

With that said, Mary deserves the business and I like to see excellent venues succeed, so here we go! Booked a room here (Blue Notes,) while coming back for a friend's wedding. The house is beautifully appointed and very homey-feeling. (Would it be too weird to say that I kinda want Mary to adopt me? It's really that awesome here.) Special dietary requests (I'm vegan,) are graciously accepted, and Mary really went out of her way to accommodate me! Really, I'd have been happy with granola and almond milk, but she went the extra mile! One of the other ladies that was in the room next door likened the place to a college dorm -- which is sort of apt. No loud parties or obnoxious roommates to contend with, but it's a very congenial and lovely atmosphere overall! Can't say enough good things about this place!

Same thing on the inside as it was on the outside. Chipped paint, exposed wires everywhere, and a bathroom so small I had to step out then back in again just to turn around. We had never stayed at a bed and breakfast and weren't sure what to expect. This place exceeded our expectations. The mansion itself is beautiful. Every time we walked around the house we discovered more treasures, everything from the molding to antique pieces. The property has a lovely view of the Erie Canal. Each morning there was coffee waiting or us outside our door on a beautifully arranged tray. Then we went down to breakfast. I hate to repeat myself but the table was also beautifully arranged. We tried several different dishes during our stay, each one delicious. Our host, John and Rebecca, were there for our every need, without being intrusive. After running around all day It was so relaxing to return to our room each night. We asked several relatives to stop by and see the place. Our Aunt was thrilled as she had driven by hundreds of times and never been inside. She was not disappointed. One extra point. They have a friendly dog named Riley who helped us forget how much we missed our own pets. We plan to return here each time we return to Syracuse.
