Since my prior experience was great, I decided to book a little weekend getaway with my boyfriend to show off the establishment. I called to book our reservation and described IN DEPTH the suite I stayed in previously. I'm unsure if it's just Hampton Inn or all Hilton hotels, but the booking was done through a call center. The call center wasn't a problem, but the outcome upon arrival was. I called to confirm our reservation with the front desk to which I was laughed at (I believe her name was Rebecca). I hung up immediately because I've never experienced such condensation in my life for the most simplest of questions. We almost cancelled our trip right then and there because of the blatant disrespect and arrogance. Mind you, I described IN DEPTH the previous suite i've stayed in. Explain to me how we were placed in a small room with no microwave, fridge, and no garbage bags for the bins. We were pissed! $520 dollars for two nights in a room that we didn't even request. But wait there's more... We were able to get moved to a "suite", aka the same room with a microwave and refrigerator. The TV options were minimal (the times we could get it to work), still no garbage bags, and extremely cramped. Morning rolls around... My boyfriend couldn't even drink the coffee. He relayed to me that the hot breakfast looked "inedible", so he opted for a grab n go yogurt that wasn't even cold. We left the morning after. It was that bad. My entire childhood has been hampton Inn's and It's so beyond disappointing that a Hampton with so much potential (location, history, etc.) could be so careless. Do better.

The coffee was like warm (we went back to the room to heat it up in the micro). The rest of the breakfast included a few cold cereals, plastic wrapped apples, tangerines and a couple of small muffins. We only stayed one night so we didn't experience the cleaning problem I read about from other reviewers. Would we stay again? Maybe, but only for a single night and next time we bring the pooch.

Under normal circumstances, this room is typically much cheaper, but we had limited options. We checked out a day early, came home and decided to commute back and forth to the tournament for the following reasons: A. The fact that they made me wait over an hour to check in with 2 kids because they couldn't figure out their reservation system? Other people however were able to check in with no problem during my wait. B. The odor of cigarettes was not masked well by the cheap air freshener in our non smoking room. C. When I tried to ask a question about the check in issues,'Tiffany' (I can't be sure since she wasn't wearing a nametag), snapped at me "Do you want to give me a minute?!?" I also offered to go eat and come back while they sorted it out, and gave 'Tiffany' my cell number to call when the room was ready. 35 minutes later I was tired of waiting and returned to find out the successfully checked me in. I asked why she didn't call and told me she tried twice. I asked what number she called and with major attitude she said "the one you gave me". I asked again and ultimately found out that she wrote my number down incorrectly. Rather than apologize, she suggested that I told her the wrong number. As if I don't know my own phone number. D. The carpets in the room were so dirty that they turned the bottoms of our feet and socks black. E. I found bed bugs at 3 AM. We figured we would look for another Quality Inn. We were looking to book 2 rooms for April 9. There was no one at the desk. we called out several times. We could hear someone talking. We called out even louder, but still no reply. checked the office behind the desk. No one there. Waited several minutes. We realized that someone was in the ladies room talking on her phone. Knocked. A very angry voice said, "I'm IN the bathroom" like how dare we interrupt. Eventually she came out. no smile. no apology. "check in isn't until 3." It was 2:15. We just were inquiring about making reservations. I don't recall the cost but it was way too much. She continued in her nasty tone of voice so we left. After reading the other reviews about bedbugs, cockroaches, and rude staff, it looks like we dodged a bullet.

The room also had a small patio so I was able to open the door and get some nice fresh air. The humidity was kind of high so I didn't keep the door open often. The only small issue was there is a train that goes across the river and it blew its horn pretty early in the AM. Not the end of the world and kind of cool to watch the tracks go down for the train and then up so boats can pass. There is one restaurant across the street which had decent food. We didn't walk to the downtown via the Riverwalk, but you can and it's about an15 minute walk.
