Since my prior experience was great, I decided to book a little weekend getaway with my boyfriend to show off the establishment. I called to book our reservation and described IN DEPTH the suite I stayed in previously. I'm unsure if it's just Hampton Inn or all Hilton hotels, but the booking was done through a call center. The call center wasn't a problem, but the outcome upon arrival was. I called to confirm our reservation with the front desk to which I was laughed at (I believe her name was Rebecca). I hung up immediately because I've never experienced such condensation in my life for the most simplest of questions. We almost cancelled our trip right then and there because of the blatant disrespect and arrogance. Mind you, I described IN DEPTH the previous suite i've stayed in. Explain to me how we were placed in a small room with no microwave, fridge, and no garbage bags for the bins. We were pissed! $520 dollars for two nights in a room that we didn't even request. But wait there's more... We were able to get moved to a "suite", aka the same room with a microwave and refrigerator. The TV options were minimal (the times we could get it to work), still no garbage bags, and extremely cramped. Morning rolls around... My boyfriend couldn't even drink the coffee. He relayed to me that the hot breakfast looked "inedible", so he opted for a grab n go yogurt that wasn't even cold. We left the morning after. It was that bad. My entire childhood has been hampton Inn's and It's so beyond disappointing that a Hampton with so much potential (location, history, etc.) could be so careless. Do better.

There is plenty of parking. When you go in, there is the kindest staff waiting to greet you with a smile. This means a lot. They also have water available which is a nice touch. The restaurant serves Starbucks coffee and some items for breakfast for purchase and dinner too. I just got coffee and an afternoon beverage to enjoy by the pool. The pool is right out back and has lots of seating. There is also a hot tub. The hotel has 5 floors. Our king room was a nice size with plenty of bathroom space. It also included a couch as well as a desk, which was great since I was working from the hotel. The air conditioner worked very well. The room also had a small patio so I was able to open the door and get some nice fresh air. The humidity was kind of high so I didn't keep the door open often. The only small issue was there is a train that goes across the river and it blew its horn pretty early in the AM. Not the end of the world and kind of cool to watch the tracks go down for the train and then up so boats can pass. There is one restaurant across the street which had decent food. We didn't walk to the downtown via the Riverwalk, but you can and it's about an15 minute walk.

The lobby is beautifully maintained and nicely decorated. There's a coffee bar right when you walk in, which is a great touch (though I'm not sure how frequently it's replenished throughout the day). My room was on the second floor, and it was spotless. One of the reasons I love Home2 Suites is how spacious the rooms feel. It truly feels more like a mini apartment than a standard hotel room. There are so many functional spaces to set your things down without feeling cramped. I had a full-size bed, a couch, and a long counter that could easily serve as a workspace for two people at once. I especially appreciate having the option to prepare your own meals. When you travel often, sometimes you just want to stay in and not eat out for every single meal. The bathroom was roomy with amazing hot water -- exactly what I needed to relax my muscles after that long drive. I slept great, no noise issues at all, and woke up fully refreshed. I didn't try the breakfast because my boss had suggested we go out instead. They have a washer and dryer, which is something I do use when I go on vacation. The actual room was spacious. Always a plus when it's a couple of people in the room. It was clean and maintained so throughout our stay. Overall great hotel. The only "complaint" I have is the mattress however I feel like this is common in most hotels. Wasn't the best mattress that I have ever laid on but it worked for the couple of nights I stayed.

In our full kitchen, we stocked the refrigerator from the local Publix and made our breakfast and lunch, which we packed for the beach. Many guests chose to grill out as we saw when we would load up to go to a local restaurant for dinner, but we preferred eating out! On our first night at Hurricane Hanks restaurant down the road, we met up with a resident who offered us more ideas for restaurants for dinner. There's nothing like walking right out onto the beach to spend a morning watching the waves, seeing dolphins frolic, observing osprey catching their breakfast, and swimming in the water among schools of fish. Many of the guests knew each other from yearly vacations, and we have already made our reservation for next year! Anna Maria Island is quiet and family friendly. White Sands Resort offers shuffleboard and corn hole right next to the pool, but the best show is the sunset. The wallpaper was literally separating from the walls, the carpets were dirty and badly worn, and the room had a persistent musty smell. Even the telephone did not work. The condition of the room was bad enough, but the complete lack of responsiveness made the experience worse. When the air-conditioning stopped working, it was extremely difficult to get anyone to take ownership and resolve the problem. The managers appeared indifferent, and every attempt to speak with one was met with the same explanation: they were "in a meeting." The general manager was never available. Luxury hospitality is not simply a recognizable name on the building. It requires well-maintained rooms, responsive management and people who genuinely care when something goes wrong. This hotel failed on all three. The physical condition is unacceptable, the service recovery is practically nonexistent, and management seems either unwilling or unable to address legitimate guest concerns. At Ritz-Carlton prices, guests should not have to chase management for functioning air-conditioning, a working telephone or a room that does not smell musty and look neglected. This property needs a major renovation and, just as importantly, a management team that understands accountability. Until both happen, I cannot recommend staying here.

The free breakfast has more options than I've seen at similar hotels and includes eggs, sausage, potatoes, oatmeal, waffles, cereal, muffins, yogurt, and a variety of fresh fruit including fresh oranges, bananas, grapefruit, and fruit salad. They even put out grab and go breakfast bags with two granola bars, an apple, a bottle of water and a packaged waffle pastry. I did not care for their no name brand coffee. While the cleanliness of my room was fine., the cleanliness of the hotel itself could've been better. The tables in the breakfast area were not well-maintained and it was not always possible to find a clean table. On occasion the trash cans by the breakfast area were overflowing. There also does not appear to be anyone monitoring the cleanliness of the lobby and elevators . On one occasion, I got in an elevator, and there was coffee spilled all over the floor and an empty cup left on the floor in. I returned to the front desk to report it. The night clerk said he would have someone clean it up right away but when I got into the same elevator around 9:30 the next morning, the coffee spill, and cup, was still in the elevator. I reported it to the front desk a second time and told them I had reported it the night before and nothing had been done. Dozens if a hundred guests were subjected to standing in a disgusting mess. The daytime desk clerk had someone take care of it. Overall, it was a comfortable hotel with a good breakfast and plenty of seating and tables with electrical plugs. They could do a much better job, maintaining their lobby and elevators for cleanliness, particularly around the breakfast hours.
