I saw Kathy for my first pregnancy, having chosen her because I was hoping for a natural delivery…read moreand felt having a CNM would increase my odds of that over seeing an OBGYN. I had also heard that CNMs were generally more personable and willing to work with your birth plan. I could not have been more wrong! Not only was the average wait time for each appointment AT LEAST 45 minutes, but each appointment left me feeling more and more scared about my upcoming delivery. I quickly learned that at each appointment I should be prepared to hear all the "worst case scenarios" that could happen with my delivery. When I expressed a desire to deliver in the birth tub, she sighed and said she hated delivering in the tub because it hurt her back. She seemed blatantly annoyed anytime I asked if something could be done differently. At week 36 she began telling me she thought I would need a c-section (the baby was not breech). She insisted I get another ultrasound to measure the size of the baby, which came back normal. In the end, baby was two weeks late and after hours of laboring she insisted I needed a c-section, which I had. As they pulled the baby out, she proudly proclaimed, "She NEVER would have been able to deliver this baby!" He was 9 pounds, but no exhausted, disappointed momma needs to hear that as she is being stitched up on the surgical table. I was devastated that my delivering ended in a c-section but accepted that it was the way it had to happen this time around. I was also thankful that they allowed me a brief amount of skin to skin time with baby while I was still on the surgical table. However, hoping for some reassurance for future deliveries, I asked Kathy if she thought I would ever be able to deliver vaginally to which she replied, "No, definitely not. Your pelvis is too small." I must have looked upset because she then added, "Well maybe, but only if it is a premie size baby or it won't fit through your pelvis." I was crushed. Fast forward two years later and here I am with my second son in my arms, delivered VAGINALLY with an incredibly supportive care provider who allowed me to labor 44 hours for the delivery I wanted so badly, never once mentioning c-section or pressuring me....and the best part is....this "little guy" weighed 10lbs 2 oz at birth :) Moral of the story: Don't let Kathy scare you away from the delivery you want. Even when c-sections are necessary, there shouldn't be the constant fear mongering and ridiculing of birth plans in the prenatal care offered. Find someone who will support your birth preferences and give you the support to go into your birth with confidence- our bodies are amazing and can do so much more than this care provider will lead you to believe!

The office staff are simply amazing. Megan (who sits in the front office window) is fantastic! When we started our first appointment, thankfully, Kathy was highly observant and notice my thyroid was a little enlarged. After blood work, ultrasounds, biopsies and an endocrinologists extra point of view... I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease and Hypothyroidism. We can never thank Kathy enough for being so vigilant. Kathy, along with Megan, were able to make appointments for me, made sure insurance was taken care, and most importantly cared for my well being along with our baby. She is so personal and will always make sure you're comfortable. At the end of our pregnancy we were faced with a decision to have a Cesarean Section because our baby was measured on ultrasound as large and had not 'dropped.' She discussed all options and together we weighed out the biggest decision I feel I had to make in my life. I am so glad she was able to be the one who helped. It was the most amazing experience. The birth of my son was NOTHING like what I had imaged. It was flawless, and the best part, Kathy was there the whole time. She was there before my C-Section and met my family, then holding my hand and talking me through the spinal block, and my favorite part... holding my baby over the blue curtain for me to see for the first time. We had a great experience with Kathy from every aspect! We only hope we're in Newport long enough to have Kathy deliver our next.

Seeing Dr. Ciresi was one of the best decisions of my life! After only being adjusted 3-4 times, I already feel less (if any at all!) pain in my lower back, shoulders and neck! I also found out through a full body x-ray that I have an extra vertebrae at the base of my spine, and an extra joint between the right side and my hip bone!
