My son broke his arm in Paris and had a plaster of Paris cast. Dr. G. wanted to remove it and put on a soft cast to give my son more mobility. I didn't see a need for that as the cast was coming off two weeks later...and would cost $450. Dr. G. expressed annoyance. Several weeks later, Dr. G. removed the cast with a small saw, and went too deep, cutting my son's arm. No apology, no concern for a 5-year-old. Really arrogant. read more

Recently, I visited Dr. Gidumal for some shoulder pain that I was experiencing and everything I read about him was 100% true. He was very professional, courteous and showed his years of knowledge and experience during my time with him. During my visit, Dr. Gidumal performed some basic tests on me and asked me if I experienced any pain during them. Based on what I told him and what he had seen, he provided me with a preliminary diagnosis, but asked me to get an x-ray to see if there was anything more serious. I went to get the x-ray on another floor in the building and came back to see him. Within 20 minutes I was back in his office and he explained to me his thoughts on my x-rays. He stated his diagnosis clearly and presented me with options on how I could recover. Since I chose to self-recover, he printed out some home exercises I could perform on my own to get better. To be honest, most doctors I have visited have all been very nice, but Dr. Gidumal made me feel very comfortable despite it being the first time I had met him. He gave me his full attention and spoke to me like I had been his patient for a while. I could tell he genuinely wanted me to recover asap and informed me to let him know about my progress if needed. I have been a patient of Dr. Ramesh Gidumal for many years, He's operated on me four times; a left rotator cuff tear, a right rotator cuff tear, a left knee's lateral meniscal tear & a right knee's medial meniscus tear. I had rotator cuff surgery with dr gidumal on Septmber 23, 2017. One week after surgery I have to say it was much much better than I feared. I stopped taking my pain meds 3 days after surgery. Have been able to walk and function without pain . Took long walks 4 days after suregry I was walking for about 5 hours with a sling. I must say the doctor is very skilled surgeon an artist to be able to perform 3 procedures on my shoulder , Slap repair, severing the bicep tendon from the laburnum and reattaching it with a screw with such minimal pain. Dr. Gidumal was the consummate professional in every sense of the word. I had broken my left collarbone and three ribs skiing. After my GP gave Dr G the strong endorsement, I made a quick appointment. I was amazed how efficient NYU Langone hospital is. I never had to wait. Radiology is two floors above the doctors' office. Surgery was scheduled the following week. The doctor's staff handled all of the pre-certification to ensure my healthcare insurance would cover the procedure (no problem). Post-surgery, Dr. G phoned me directly to see how I was feeling. Just back from the post-op follow-up, I will be back to my 46 year old self in just a few weeks. My first visit to NYU Clinic was in April after a soccer injure. Dr. Gidumal attended me but for my surprise instead of prescribed me an MRI he told me " you have a meniscus injure just do this exercises (he printed some internet exercises) and come back in two week". I came back in two weeks and he said you are improving, start doing bicycle, run etc. and about July 4 you will be able to play soccer again! When I played soccer on July 20-- first time-- as soon as did my first pivoting my knee got injured again but I was able to walk. I visited Dr. Gidumal and he finally send me for a MRI and surprise, I had a full ACL tear and the Meniscus were okay! He convinced me me to wear a brace to play recreational sports and do more bicycle before to think on surgery. On August 23 I went to practice recreational soccer by myself with the brace I purchase from Dr Gidumal office. guess what happened. My knee got lock and could not walk anymore! The answer of Dr Gidumal was" know we know you need Surgery" Therefore, since I become patient of Dr. Gidumal I got worse, I arrived walking(meniscus sprain) and I left his NYU office in crutches with ACL and meniscus tear. read more

I found him to be rude and unhelpful. He was late for the appointment and basically told me to tough it out with no PT, medication, or other tangible advice. I will not go back to him. I went to several other Orthopedists and it turned out that I had a torn rotator cuff that will get worse if it is not operated on. After living with a broken collarbone for close to 2 years, Dr. Gidumal performed surgery on it and monitored me closely as I returned to sport,, even though the bone didn't seem to be growing back. He urged me to continue to my normal activities while not giving up on the possibility that it would eventually heal (even though I had lost hope myself). But now, finally, my collarbone is healed and all the hardware has been removed. Dr. Gidumal understands and is responsive to the needs of athletes, but also has your best interest at heart - which made me really trust his advice: if he said "don't play," i wouldn't play. He's very thorough, smart, and communicates your options clearly. I also never had a hard time getting an appointment on short notice. I tore my ACL back on 1/5/2015. I was recommended by my primary care physician to see Dr. Gidumal. Very easy to get an appointment. after 2 visits, X-ray and MRI I was told that my ACL was torn. I was given the option of having surgery or not. Dr. Gidumal provided the plus and minus's of having the surgery. I decided to have the surgery on 3/13/2015. I never had major swelling or complications from the surgery. 7 weeks post surgery I'm in physical therapy. All went according to Dr. Gidumal's protocol. He'll never recommend surgery first. You will be examined by a nurse who will ask questions and, if your case is like mine, she will send you to the X Ray section. Upon returning Dr. Gidumal may make a very brief appearance to confirm the diagnosis -- no examination, nothing. To confirm this, I received a bill where the "provider" is the nurse, no mention of Dr. Gidumal. I was not asked if this arrangement was acceptable. You've been warned. read more

I am 68 years old and have had arthritis in my knees since age 40. So when I experienced extreme pain and swelling in my right knee I saw my rheumatologist. She sent me for an MRI and it turned out that the knee was fractured from overuse. Happily, I went to Dr. Gidumal for a second opinion after the first orthopedist said I may need partial knee replacement. A brace, a cane, and lots of rest - today I went back to him for evaluation (2 weeks early, but he made time to see me) - and I am pain free. No more brace, just the cane for another week to prevent re-injury. I am so glad I did not take more drastic steps. He was unfailingly patient and considerate. I went to see Dr. Gidumal in 2017 and had an MRI of my right shoulder. I had pain for well over a year. He told me that I had a complete tear, even though the MRI said otherwise. It said 0.8 x 0.2 cm and involves greater than 50% of tendon thickness. In the end, it was confirmed that the tear was not complete. He told me several times. He said that surgery wasn't imminent but better earlier in life than as an older person. The surgery was September 15th and I have had months of physical therapy that I have been religious about making appointments and doing home programs. Last week I was in Havana, Cuba, known for their medical doctors. There I saw an orthopedist who reviewed my MRIs from before and after. In Spanish, I heard them say several times "surgical prostitution" meaning that the Dr. performed unnecessary surgery. MY shoulder is MUCH worse than before the surgery and I am not able to perform my work as an artist. I would highly recommend not seeing this doctor, or at the very least, get a 2nd opinion. read more

I had seen Dr. Gidumal several years ago after a fall off my bike and an elbow injury. No surgical intervention was required, but he was attentive to my problem and suggested several exercises. But this January I ruptured my left quadriceps tendon. This serious knee injury required an operation ASAP. Because of another medical condition, I had to be checked out first by two other doctors and have some tests, all in the next 72 hours.
