I absolutely LOVE Fruit King. Here's why:…read more The produce is always fresh and somehow always seems to taste miles better than what I get at big chain grocery stores. Not to mention it's dirt cheap. I eat A LOT of fruits and veggies, which can get pretty pricey...thanks to Fruit King I can afford to feed myself :) And the good doesn't stop there. For such a tiny hole-in-the-wall market they still manage to have a great variety of produce. I should mention though that if you're looking for a fully stocked grocery you've come to the wrong place. However, they do carry things are difficult to find in regular groceries (for example, lemon grass...I can NEVER find lemon grass!). And you'll find other goodies besides fruits and veggies-- cheap spices, dry noodles, Asian cooking sauces, canned/jarred goods, dried fruit, etc. As far as service goes it's top-notch. The cashiers ring-in and bag your purchases at the speed of light. Fruit King is just plain delicious!

I just purchased 2 tubs of fresh organic strawberries for $3! Steal! That is way cheaper than St. Lawrence Market. I will keep my eye out for similar deals whenever I pass this place again. The inside of the store looks very similar to a Chinatown store setup, with a scale and 1 cashier at the front that quickly processes the transactions. It's true, there's no service provided here, and the area where they place the vegetable looks quite dingy but the freshness of their produce and price is what the 4 stars are for.

This looks like your typical small Chinese grocery store in Chinatown. It is packed with grocery…read moreproducts in every nook and cranny. Inside the lights are lower than in a big chain grocery store. They also sold potted plants and cut flowers. Prices are the same or slightly better than at a big chain grocery store. For example, I wanted to buy a bag of cherries. There were two prices, $2.99/lb and $4.99/lb. The difference was that the more expensive cherries were bigger in size. There were fruits displayed outside the store, like the cherries. When I was there, the cherries were in the shade. However, the temperature was 31C with humidex of 38C; are fruit affected by humidex? I suspect they are. But if the strong was shining o  it, I worry about the fruit getting over ripe. My cherries were OK for the $2.99/lb price I paid. At my first set of 25 cherries, one was rotten. The sweetness level varied from cherry to cherry. They sold all the typical fruit and vegetables, without having any Chinese vegetables or fruit. This is in Greektown, after all. It is best to use cash. There is a charge of $0.25 for debit, so that's acceptable. There is some minimum purchase for credit cards, but I don't remember the rules. There is no free WiFi. The store is not wheelchair accessible (aisles top narrow). There are no customer washrooms. There is paid and free neighbourhood street parking. Review 2023-217

Nawzar Halal Meat Market is a butcher shop specializing in all sorts of fresh halal meats,…read moregroceries and ready to eat foods. Their food is available for delivery on UberEats and DoorDash. My haul consisted of their Sultan with Green Rice, Koobideh kabobs, Joojeh kabobs, ample heaps of polow rice and delicious Ghormeh Sabzi - considered the national dish of Iran dating back 5000 years. It elicits debates among chefs as to which herbs (tareh, parsley, scallion, cilantro, shanbalileh, etc.) and beans to include or exclude. Debates aside, it sure was tasty! Couldn't find a menu in store, either the prices really fluctuate daily on dishes or they make up random pricing. The jury is out in that one! I did note what their offerings were without looking at a menu. Shish kabob charcoal. Halal fresh meats. Ready to eat hot food. Spaghetti with lamb. Beef with safran rice. Chicken leg with cranberry rice. Lamb shank with green rice. Sultan with green rice. Waziri with cranberry rice. Khorma zabzi. Lobya polo, rice with ground veal and green beans. Ghimeh stow. Polow (white rice). Gheimeh (Qeimeh mutton khoresh) stew. Ground veal stick. Chicken kebab. Ayran yogurt drink. Next time I'll order a delivery of their Tahdig, and will try an order of their lamb spaghetti.

Served with tasty rice, onion, grilled tomato, pickle and flat bread. It's enough for 2 people. The prices do vary at times, but the quality definitely does not. Always top-notch. Great with hot-sauce (similar to Frank's redhot). They have wide variety of groceries and sweets to try from Iran and other countries. Love the Date Gata (sweet bread)..
