Today was a joyful day of celebration in Super Khorak's neighbourhood. People were dancing in the street even before news of Khamenei's death. We were so full of happiness and joy. That's until we met some of the miserable ladies behind the food counter at Super Khorak. I waited there for 30 minutes for my food. At one point, I turn and see the employee who took my order whispering in another one's ear while looking at me. I told my partner something was going on. I thought maybe they burned our food. Finally we went to the other end of the counter, realizing there was another pick up section. One of the employees asks for my number. I search my pockets and realize I've lost the receipt. I tell her. She rolls her eyes and storms off. Comes back and barks "what did you order?" I tell her. She says "I called your number 10 times." They knew it was our food! They saw us standing there for more than 30 minutes. What the heck? Then she goes over to some new lady behind the cash whispering while gawking at me. At this point I was at my wit's end. I go over there and say 'excuse me. Is there a problem.' New lady smiles and says "no, no problem at all." I finally get my food. But this whole experience made me lose my appetite and ruined what was up to that point an amazing day. Don't bother. Go next door to Super Arzan. Hopefully they won't ruin your day. read more

Updating my previous review. Things have improved in terms of organization. Make sure u call ahead did pick up. They are pretty quick. Usually 10-15 mins. The staff are nice and efficient. The food is delicious and full of value. You order on the right side by the cash register and bbq. You pick up on the left side by the menus. We like the chicken leg or breast but other stuff is great too. It's a supermarket so don't expect fancy decor. It's takeout only, remember ?! read more

My go to Iranian takeout spot! Maybe this is just new to me- but this supermarket got a new makeover & is looking nice! I don't really come here to shop for groceries (occasionally I'll buy their freshly made bread & kashk e bademjoon-an eggplant dip) I mainly come here for their "food court" style/takeout. I love that they are always grilling meats to order and right in front of you too (you order & see the raw skewers get cooked right away) the Koobideh and Vaziri Kebab platters are my go tos & are super filling! If you're feeling fancy adding extra $ to substitute to dill rice is honestly the way to go! Sometimes they're feeling extra nice & will throw in some crispy rice for me which I love! Staff have always treated me friendly even though I just speak to them in English and I'm obv not Iranian lol they're always giving me big smiles because they're happy to see that I truly love Iranian food! Easy, grab & go Iranian food concept with a lot of options! My rule of thumb is if you see a bunch of Persian families ordering lots from here it's prob an authentic place. We went all the way to Khorak to get take-out chicken and rice for a party, and we easily fed 13 people for less than two people could eat out in downtown Toronto! The stand-out was definitely their zereksht polo -- the Persian barberry rice. It's so light and colourful, and the tanginess of the barberries is a great contrast with the butteriness of the rice. If you're catering an event, we definitely recommend Khorak! read more

They've limited the number of people in the store during COVID-19 pandemic and are following all the guidelines, which is great. They also added delivery which I find overpriced. You can buy fresh bread and Persian foods here and I'm a big fan of the Taftoon and Sangak bread here. But most of the items the sell are overpriced and sometimes they change the expiry dates which makes it hard to trust them. read more

We as a family ordered chenjeh kabab and koobideh ,although i requested to give us fresh ones and chenjeh (as told it is lamp),they prepared very spicy koobide,veal chenjeh which sounds like remained for long time in their fridge (They recieved money for lamp chenjeh but the meat wasnt lamp ) Nevertheles we all were very hungry we couldnt eat both I called three times to the store ,noone answered you well and took responsibility ,you cannot find owner of restaurant or someone who are responsible as well. This place never disappoints. Their food is fresh and you can do your groceries while you wait. It's not a sit down place but the food will last you for couple of meals. The plaza has parking available. But on a busy day it can get a bit congested. The food is always fresh! read more

I love their bread and pastry section here especially the sangak which is often available fresh and hot. Very fluffy and deliciously!

The reason for me not recommending Khorak is very obvious as there's lots of discrimination since I do not speak their language they treat people like me very badly and very rudely. I just went there today and I bought myself Bhagali Polo Shank and couple of other things. First of all the lady who is serving me did not know how to take my order. Since my order was not what I expected I confronted the lady who is in charge of this section. Oh my god!!! She was so rude as I didn't like the way my Shank was given. The lady was giving me the Shank with curry in the same box with rice in it. And that too in a therma ball box and when I insisted she gave me the curry in thermal ball box where as I protested saying the curry will fall but she didn't listen . I told her that I need it separately instead of giving it to me and she started to throwing her temper tantrum and instead of giving it to me in a proper plastic container forcefully give it to me in a thermal ball and myself and by the time I reached home and when I open the foil in which she had wrapped half of the curry had fallen and only little bit of curry was left and she was constantly ignoring what I was trying to explain to her and she was murmuring all throughout in Persian and I don't know what she was saying. I had the worst experience and I would request everyone reading who doesn't speak Farsi to refrain from going to this store. read more

Truly a "super" market. A grocery store, a butcher, baker and candle stick maker.. well, maybe not the last part. The butcher and baker part is true. Various fresh meat option. Halal I believe. Amazing breads and pastries. Restaurant that offers delicious Persian cuisine too. Mostly for take-out. There are a few tables for folks like us who had to eat right then and there. Loved the grilled chicken breast and beef kabob with saffron rice. Reasonable prices for homemade entrees, and large portions. Being that we could not bring fresh fruits, vegetables or meats back into the US from Canada, we did not purchase any. But boy did those pomegranates look even more tempting! Red, shiny and beautiful to even just look at! Maybe Eve tempted Adam with a pomegranate? This is a fun shopping experience. A taste of all things Persian. read more

OMG!! It is hard to believe that Super Khorak is open 24/7!! Imagine in the middle of the night, you need to get some of those Persian sweets for someone dear or you just want to cook up some lamb (Chops, head & legs, whatever!) There is this exciting vibes inside Super Khorak.. remind me of marketplaces in smaller villages... you got to see the bakers, the butchers and the cooks... The hot food takeout is great value... $7.99 gave you tons of rice, meat and a can of pop! :) Taste wise is A-OK... Posting here only because this store has some kind of a fake review system on Google where they solicit a 5-star review from every customer while swiftly removing all negative reviews after the owner has passive aggressively responded by accusing the reviewer of lying. Their takeout counter is so poorly managed, chaotic, and unorganized to the point that every time I've been here, they have either mistakenly given part of my order to a different customer leaving me to wait almost an hour to get my food, given me the wrong order, or forgot to include part of my order. The manager is rude, arrogant, and dismissive. Despite complaining, they offered me no apologies and no solution. They can't handle any kind of constructive criticism and insult anyone who has a justified complaint without making any effort to fix the situation and keep their clients happy. On top of the terrible customer service, the food quality has dropped and grocery items are sometimes expired. Avoid this place. There are plenty of Iranian grocery stores and takeout places on Yonge that don't treat their customers like this. read more

I come here for the amazing variety of groceries, fresh baked bread and Persian sweets and nuts. It's all of the best foods of Iran under one roof - how can you not love it? Most of the other reviews here are for take-out food from Khorak, but I'm going to stick to reviewing the supermarket itself. The store was fully renovated & expanded in 2017. It is still a relatively small grocery by Canadian standards, but it is really nice, bright and open now. First things first, go straight to the back to pick up some fresh bread from the bakery. They bake it in a stone pit, and make 3 types of bread, fresh. You take the large piece of bread then cut it with a knife to fit whatever bag/container you want to take it home in. Exactly like they've done in Tehran for centuries. If you're picking up a gift for the host of a party, the traditional thing to get would be a box of desserts, like cream puffs (noon khamei) and rollette. These are pastries made popular during a time when the French influence was strong in Iran, so they are essentially French pastries (shhh don't tell anyone I told you that) & they are the most fluffy delicious amazing things. There are always new types of berries and plums here that I've never seen elsewhere. Iranians love sour things! Try the fruit concentrates that fill up 1 entire aisle, those make amazing mixed drinks (flavors like sour cherry, sour green grape, lavender, 7 flowers, orange blossom, etc.) Don't forget the dried fruits and nuts too, near checkout. Walnuts & pistachios are a staple in Persian cuisine, and these are the best nut mixes. There are a dozen small tables near the exit, so you can eat on the spot if you picked up a hot meal here. The parking lot is always crowded, and the spaces are tight. But that's par for the course on busy Yonge street. read more

I've been coming to Super Khorak for YEARS and even though I don't live anywhere near this store, it is the only place I buy my basmati rice and saffron from... the good stuff... the locked-up-behind-the-counter-stuff. You know the stuff. I've tried saffron from other places and they just can't compete. When it's time to replenish our rice supply, we pop in here and usually pick up dinner as well. The food is 'okay'... definitely NOT the best Koobideh I've had, which is unfortunate considering that they're right in the thick of Persian town. The rice is fine but the meat is underseasoned and overcooked leaving it quite dry and just sorta... blah. It's getting harder and harder to find really good Koobideh without having to go to a proper sit-down restaurant. Super Khorak serves it's purpose but if could find Lal Qilla rice closer to me, I probably wouldn't come here anymore. Bookmarked Khorak Supermarket recently and was suddenly craving Persian food, so we decided to head on over. The supermarket is great: we were first greeted by a really nice employee, asking us if we would like to try a samples of warm soup (which were delicious!). We then went on to the hot station to order a chicken and beef combo with basmati rice. We were told to come back in 10 minutes time. We walked around the establishment and it was neat and tidy. The produce looked fresh (we picked up a few oranges) and they had a gentleman making flatbread on site. The flatbreads for sale were still warm! We finally went to pick up our order and sat in the small seating area they had for eating. The portion was quite large for its price, the chicken was juicy and the beef was plenty. Its a good size Iranian store. Carries mainly all Persian (Iranian) foods. From groceries, to sweets, nuts, lentils, fresh cut meats. They bake fresh pita which comes in different sizes. I like the long shaped flat bread with and without sesame seeds called Barbari, there is another kind which is very thin called Lav-ash. You can make wraps with lav-ash bread. They have a section for fresh cheese. They have a separate section for freshly cooked foods, like Chelo kebab its comes with 2 skewers with an option of beef, chicken or lamb and rice one onion, BBQ tomato, tiny butter and sumak powder to sprinkle on the kebab. The price is around $10 to $12. The serving is good. My daughter likes a dish called Bagalay Paulo, its rice garnished with Dill, and has a lamb shank. If you are in the area do try the food. read more

I come here for one reason and one reason only. The Koobideh kebab! I've grown up eating kebab my whole life and have tried it in every city I've been to. I've also been to every Persian kebab shop in Toronto and none I find comes close to This place. Some kebabs are too dry, some are not flavourful enough. Some are smaller than others. And some are just horrible. Super Khorak has perfected the Koobideh. The meat firstly is deliciously marinated giving it is unique flavour. I've tried making it at home but my efforts pale in comparison. The Koobideh kebab is served with rice and a char broiled tomato and some butter. I usually ask for half rice and half salad which they don't upcharge - which is a nice touch. The beauty about this place is that it's not just a 'restaurant'. In fact, it's not a kebab shop but a supermarket. They have a wide assortment of nuts, fruit, meat, and absolutely amazing bread which they make on site. The best part in my opinion is the hot table of plentiful food. Beautiful, delicious Persian food. This place is an absolute gem and foreigners are most welcomed here. This review covers two areas of this ethnic supermarket. Food stand and other stuff. First for the food area there is a nice clean area with an open charcoal BBQ (the best way to BBQ IMO). The offer a variety if grilled items and some prepared hot foods which all looked decent. I went for the combo # 6 as it has one chicken skewer and ground beef kebab. It comes with rice and a pop (total damage with taxes $10.16) I went for this combo as I like dark meat for chicken and this one had the less seasoned ground beef kebab (though I like koobideh but the spice stays with you the next day if you know what I mean). It came with a grilled tomato and two kinds of rice (plain and saffron). Some raw onions and lime for cutting the spice on the meat. Also noteworthy is the availability of Sumac packs which goes well on grilled items. Good stuff here all for 10$ and it was better than the proper sit in restaurants I have tried. 4 stars here. For dessert I picked a saffron pistachio ice cream sandwich from the store decent stuff (ice cream was very good) the wafers it came in were ho hum. My buddy tried some other ethnic desserts which were not that good. There are 3-4 tables which are not very clean and get busy real quick so I would recommend mainly doing takeaway. Now for the main grocery area I am somewhat familiar with the items from this region and appreciated the good price of teas and the variety they carry. Other items were OK. The bread selection looked impressive and my buddy usually buys his stuff from here and commented that their fresh baked items are quite good. Cheese selection was good as well. The produce section was not that great. I think I will need to explore this section when I am in this area next time. 3 Stars till the next trip. read more

This place is amazing!!!!! I love Persian food and this place has food on top of food, on top of food. And it was so delicious. I came from out of town and this supermarket was down the street from my hotel. It was late and we were looking for a yummy, home cooked meal without all the fuss. We found exactly what we were looking for here. Pricing is a little high- but they make up for it in the amount of food given to you and the quality/taste. I wish I had something like this back home. Love going here. An Iranian supermarket that does it all. They've recently just renovated which is a much better look than prior. The hot table and bakery section is reason enough to visit, however, the different sections between food, bakery, grocery and butcher can make it a bit confusing as a non-Irani. In my attempt to learn Persian flavours I arrive to Khorak Grocery to complete my findings and research. My goal to conceptualize a Persian Fusion Dessert was complete but while I did my studies, I forgot one rule. Always start from the Market and see what is available and that is why I give myself an "F" because I F'd myself due to one major ingredient. Phyllo! While their was an assortment of Pomegranate Syrups, Pistachios, Rose Water and Honey. I was not able to find Phyllo in their fridge as most of the handful of space was taken up by Yogurts. While I disappointed myself for not able to complete my Dessert for others. I was happy to discover the rest of the Grocery Market that is Khorak. Barbari Persian Bread - As a few Men was in this semi-underground area with a large rotating oven. One makes the Dough into a large rectangular shape similar to Party-size Pizza Pizza. The next removes it and puts in on a rack for customers to choose. Butcher Shop - Goat Head(Skinned) and Hoofs had my curiosity while there was more of the typical Cuts of Meat. Maybe my friends are more accepting of Goat since it's not a common house pet. Although I'm sure someones Grandparents probably had a pet Goat. Dry Products - Don't for a second think Rosewater is all there is because there's way more than you can ever imagine. How they are used or how they taste is unfamiliar to me but I'm sure it can be added to many people's repertoire similar to the more common Flavoured Extracts. Persian Sweets & Pastries - Cookies, Rice Puddings and Baklavas are once again standard however the Pistachio & Saffron Ice Cream Wafer Sandwiches in the fridge was what caught my eyes. In-house Take-out Restaurant - There were a few Tables for dining in. The Food were all reasonable priced although not as good quality as Full Serve Persian Restaurants. There were Sandwiches as well which we saw someone purchase. Btw, be aware the Dining area and plastic utensils are not the cleanest. Baqali Polo($7.99) includes Free Pop. Dill, Fava Beans blended into Saffron Rice, served with a Braised Lamb Shank. The Lamb Shank was on a warming tray in it's own braising liquid at the counter. Fall off the bone tender Lamb Shank. Flavour wise it was average. Vaziri($7.99) includes Free Pop. I like Persian Grilled Ground Beef because it's flavoured well although this one was less juicy, I didn't mind it much as it was better than most Burger Patty in this town. We hadn't been to Khorak in many years. It looks like they might have re-done the interior....? It didn't appear to be the way we remembered it anyway. Selection wasn't great. Quality of the produce varied greatly. Somev of the herbs (Mint, Methi, etc) were amazing and lush, but produce right beside it was tired and old. They had plenty of yogurt, but only one choice for labneh? And $7.30 for a little tub of it? Arz is half the price with lots of choices. The butcher staff were....disappointing. We are not Persian, but we love making Persian and other middle eastern food. I get we may look out of place in a store that gets few non-Persian people, but when we ask for a pound of ground lamb, and the butcher who was a moment before speaking english to his friend suddenly doesn't understand what I'm saying and keeps trying to incessantly sell me 3-4 pounds of ground lamb, it gets annoying. The bakery. Oh, the bakery. The bread is great. Baked on premises, smelling wonderful. The hot counter could well be very good. The lineup was insane and completely blocked the whole counter. If it's that busy, there must be something to it. But we weren't there for that today. I think if you're local to the area and are cooking Persian, Khorak does the job for you. But we'll stick with our regulars like Arz, Adonis, Kostas etc. read more

Usually when I come here it's to grab: 1) Paloodeh - a frozen rose water & noodle dessert, mix it with some fresh lemon juice and you have the PERFECT hot summer dessert 2) Pirashki - creme/mousse filled pastry, I don't really know how to explain it but it's quite possibly my favorite pastry ever 3) Cheap, Quick and tasty persian take-out. 4) Grab some freshly made Persian bread (called Barbari) Give it a try if you're in the area! read more

I had Persian tea at someone's place and needed to buy it and was sent here. This place smells delicious. They're cooking up lots of good Persian food like koobedeh. Some shawarma too (that's not Persian right?) They had Persian pistachios and I love pistachios so I got some to try. They're sweet and lemony-tasting but a little redder than regular salted pistachios. What's on these? Sugary lemon water? Is saffron involved? What about sumach? I also bought the tea I tried. It's a good price compared to other quality loose leaf black tea. The guys working the food section are friendly. The koobedeh sandwich pita I got was delicious and only $5 + tax. I can't wait till I'm in the area. I want to go back and try other Persian things. read more
