I used to always love this YMCA but recently I have been feeling unsafe here as the train station is so close by I think a lot of homeless people come here as I have seen people sleeping inside before. As well, the high school is attached so I do't necessarily enjoy going here during the day. It is so busy and impossible to get parking. Quarry Park is a new beautiful location and is not near a train station and does not have a high school attached.

The step class was great! It wasn't too crowded so I had tons of space and they also provided towels. Being a beginner, I totally thought I would miss many steps but the instructor gave great instructions which were easy to follow. Overall, the staff here are friendly and helpful - especially the girl at the front desk who, when I was asking about membership, asked how old I was?!?!?! I'm well past the age of 18 which is an adult memebership! lol. I guess I coulda gotten a teen membership?!?! The building is connected right beside the Calgary Public Library. It's clean and nice & separated into two floors. They have all the usuals here. A pool, a fitness area, a weight circuit, stretch area, & gym. The locker room is fairly long with ample lockers for usage. They provide locks too! If you need a lock, make sure you get one at the entrance gate (they'll ask for a card with your name on it to hold it). There are a LOT of machines upstairs in the fitness/weight area. The machines are newer and fancy with lots of variety. I even saw one that simulated moving uphill on cross country ski's - it was cool. I was there at 10am and it was BUSY! For the busier weight machines, I had to wait my turn.... which was kinda awkward since the machines are kinda close together with only room between them for traffic flow, so I felt like I was in the way of traffic while waiting. One last thing... they provide 'wet wipes' for you to clean the equipment after your usage which makes me happy cuz I know that they care about not spreading germs. =)

Every time you step in to the gym at this location, one of the trainers will greet you. Every single time. They make you feel comfortable and like you belong there. And you'll always be able to speak to at least one trainer during staffed hours. You never have to wait around to speak to someone about a concern or general fitness. If you're looking to join a community made up of competent and caring individuals committed to your health, go here. The morning crowd (both trainers and gym-goers alike) is exceptionally enthusiastic and pumped! Which is helpful at 6am on a Monday morning.

It is staffed during the day and early evenings which means you can make an appointment with a trainer, or have questions answered. Rob, the owner, is AMAZING. He really makes an effort to get to know all of the members, and is incredible at building rapport. ALL business owners could learn from him! Also, the staff is incredible. All very friendly and nonjudgmental, ready to answer questions pertaining to health at anytime. The other patrons of the gym are also very friendly. Ages range from late teens to early 70s- I never feel out of place or uncomfortable. This gym offers a variety of cardio equipment (you NEVER have to wait for a machine), has a weight circuit, a large free weight area, and a mid-size 'studio' area. Also, for those who tan, it offers one tanning bed which is NEW and LARGE. I work shift work and tend to be a night owl, sometimes THE ONLY time I have to get a work out/tan in is at 3am- this place TOTALLY meet my needs. For UNLIMITED tanning and Gym access I pay around $63.00, without the tanning it would be about $18 less- VERY REASONABLE. Also, they offer month to month plans so you don't have to sign a contract if it's not for you. I urge anyone who is considering joining a gym in the SW to stop in and take a look around, if you awesome fitness amenities don't win you over the friendly staff totally will.

The restaurant is to die for and the staff are really nice. The view is one of the best parts. You aren't too far from Calgary but you seem to be in a completely different world! The most magical place in Alberta!…read more A friend of ours attended a vodka tasting event at Azuridge and we were blown away by the pictures, the estate seemed like it came out of a magazine, not an amazing local place! We had hoped they would accommodate a tiny wedding, and they did not disappoint. Everything from the first email, to the subsequent visits, has been over the top amazing. I had considered waiting to write this until our event was completed, but honestly, you neeed to know about this place. It is so posh and perfect, everyone who works there is on fire to make your experience amazing. Entering the gate into the estate sets the tone for the experience you are about to have. We came to tour the estate, brilliant experience, they have every single tiny detail perfected. Our engagement photos followed by some drinks in the beautiful Opal dining room? The photos are stunning, and we were so touched that a server we had not met yet congratulated us on our upcoming wedding. We are probably not this venue's typical clientele, but we have been treated like royalty since our very first contact. If you are ever so lucky as to have the chance to work with Trevor, jump on that opportunity. He is so amazing at what he does and takes care of all the little details you might not have even considered, which just adds to the magic of this place. If you are looking to be pampered and spoiled, or perhaps a little getaway, you won't find a better place to go in Alberta.

The only thing I think that this library does not have is the stationary computers that you can print fro because with you library card you get $5.00 of free printing a month and I couldn't find a printer for that here. Also their kid zone is a little smaller than the others. They have great programs. One program that I went to on a Thursday was the science program that is in the afternoon and they did a segment on optical illusions!

They also have a universal locker space which is shared by all genders and ages. The YMCA offers plenty of swim classes, but relatively low number of options for land classes given the price of the memberships. The Remington YMCA building is also home to the Quarry Park library which is quite lovely. You do not need a membership with the YMCA to access it.

I didn't really give the "for just about anyone" aspect much thought, until one Friday evening . . . Walking through the lobby towards the rinks, I noticed how many teens were cruising around the building, or just generally hanging out.... not going anywhere in particular, and not carrying any athletic gear. It was notable by their numbers. "Why," I wondered? Is Xbox Live down? Well, it turns out that this facility offers up "teen night" every Friday. For a couple of bucks they gain admission, and they can use the pool, gymnasium, the games area (or "Youth Center") downstairs, etc. Pretty cool, really. Giving teens something non-destructive to do. Otherwise, year round a lot is offered at the ORC: two hockey rinks, curling rinks, a gymnasium, a pool, a skateboard park, an outdoor water "spray park" for the kiddies, soccer and baseball fields... and a fitness club (Natural High Fitness). They even stage a rodeo in the big Murray arena in the summer. This place is a big positive in the community. It gives area residents ample opportunity to get off their butts and stay active.
