I love rancheros it's my favorite Mexican food in town and they have great specials and happy hour

Our second visit was definitely better than the first time because our first time the a/c was out. So everyone was uncomfortable. The second visit made up for that. From the friendly and speedy service to the food, it was tasty. We're a family with small children so service matters. Paid $26 for the molcajete ranchero. Got the molcajete. No quesadilla and no guacamole salad. $4 difference. The molcajete is served in a metal bowl that is placed in a cold molcajete bowl. This defeats the purpose of the bowl. The 2 of us had our entrees served on 5 different plates that came out 1 at a time with a 4-5 minute gap between each delivery which made food cold by the time we had everything to put our food together. Despite there being low staff, they were so sweet and attentive. They didn't even feel understaffed at all, we got everything very quickly. I ordered the chicken flautas and prickly pear margarita, and both were amazing. There is reasonable pricing and it's nice and quiet and calm in the restaurant. We've been to Ranchero before and enjoyed it. We went back for another visit. Mayra was our server, and she was very attentive. My wife and I tried something new this time. We enjoyed the bacon wrapped shrimp and their version of chicken mole. It was a Friday evening and not crowded, so that was very nice. Our food came very quickly and was just as ordered. This is our favorite sit down Mexican food restaurant in our small town. Wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. Usually get seated right away. Food is served hot and within reasonable amount of time. Nice atmosphere, clean tables, and consistantly great tasting food. Our family go-to's are the chicken chimi, arroz con pollo, chicken la creme, and enchiladas with Verde sauce. Love the chips, salsa, and bean dip brought to the table. Our big family usually goes through two. Tasty mango margaritas and traditional on the rocks. Typical Mexican style with nice decor, full bar and the usual menu. As seems to be the trend, both refried beans and salsa are served with tortilla chips. My chicken and rice included some mushrooms and green onions, a bit of cheese along with an iceberg lettuce salad and four tortillas. It was too much food for me, maybe because I had too many chips and a beer. The restaurant is a few steps from the Rustlers Inn. Stopped in with friends, friendly service off to a good start. My first impression in a Mexican Restaurant is always the chips and salsa. Salsa was too blended, not enough chunks of vegetables. Flavor lacked the definition of the ingredients everything just fell together, I look for the different ingredients to define themselves with each bite and have texture and visual appeal. Ordered fajitas, good portions but again flavors could be more pronounced and the salsa was not going to help it. Very small garnish of guacamole, come on now that's what makes fajitas great. Others had the enchiladas which looked like a better choice. Might give it another try but overall not very impressed. read more

Ate here one time and it was not a pleasant experience. We waited over 20 mins before we even ordered drinks, another 20 before we could order food, which arrived cold and we had could not get the waiter's attention again until we were nearly finished...the food was nothing to write home about, and was expensive. Not that I'm ever coming back here, but if you do want to eat here I would avoid the steak/carne asada. I ordered the steak skewer and i was served shoe leather skirt steak that had been chopped and griddled rather than charbroiled as advertised. Besides that, my partners food was drowning in cheese to mask the low quality. Service was fine. S.U. and I had been driving all day (from Boise) and had checked into the 'value' motel right next door. It was July 4th and most places were closed so we walked across the parking lot and entered a classic, overdone Mexican-themed Cantina. They're in towns all over the American West. They're not dirt cheap taqueria's, They offer a full menu and specials (July 4th spicy prawns, $9.99) and they're hit or miss for quality. This one was a hit. The chips were home made, the salsa spicy and plentiful. S.U. had a chicken tostada, the chicken was flavorful and moist. I had the chicken mole and it was a knock out. I asked the owner who said they made it in house and he rattled off the ingredients (no peanuts) including chocolate, pine nuts and the several roasted, fried and ground peppers. I'm a sucker for good mole. A few more Negra Modelos and we walked back across the parking lot to our balcony to watch the fireworks. Great spot. Long live the Revolution! read more

My friend and I had a few minutes to kill, decided a brew and a quick bite of Mexican food sounded good. We sat in the lounge(A family with squealing children were in the dining area). The same time our order was brought to the table a couple of employees decided to do some cleaning in the kitchen. You can see into the kitchen from the lounge. The fumes from whatever cleaning product they were using soon engulfed us! I made it out the side-door just in time to blow-beans! My gal was right behind me. After apologizing to the people on the next door motel balcony(which shares the parking lot)that had to witness my barfing, I went back through the front-door, paid and left. I'm a local...I've been there a half dozen times or so and it never was anything special from the start. Prineville is sorely lacking in good Mexican food. read more

Drinks arrived after entrees Margaritas way too sweet. Carnitas in odd lil bits, completely dried out. Nachos looked like you could buy them at a gas station. Rest of the food was meh, I'm actually ok with meh Mexican food in Oregon. Bill arrived, but none of plates were cleared. Waiter never returned to collect payment, wandered up to an empty cashier stand and waited 5 min for someone to show. Do yourself a favor, hit up the taco truck a few doors down. The only good thing about this place is the guacamole made table side and that's even made sans a smile. The beans tasted like they were cross contaminated with fish so my boyfriend used it as a dam to block it from the other not so tasty mole. I had the taquitos which were average. Were thirty minutes since we finished dinner and still haven't been asked if we would like our check. I've had time to write this review and could take a nap before they get back to us. Without going into the long and crazy story, my husband and I found ourselves driving through Prineville on our way back home to Portland from Idaho on Saturday night. We needed to stop and get something to eat for dinner and the usual fast food locations didn't interest us. We drove by Ranchero and thought it looked promising and sounded good, so we turned around and pulled in. Since we were still several hours from home, we didn't want to be there for a long time. The waitress brought us chips and salsa and our drinks right away and took our order as soon as we were ready. Luckily, the restaurant wasn't completely slammed. My husband ordered the taco salad and I ordered the fajita salad with shrimp. His salad came in the usual fried tortilla shell and he was surprised that there weren't any rice or beans at the bottom - usually there is one or the other or both in a taco salad. Other than that, he enjoyed it. My shrimp fajita salad was absolutely delicious! I was surprised to see that it did include a little rice on the bottom as well as the lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream and guacamole. Seriously, this salad was very very good. If we find ourselves back in Prineville, I would imagine we would go back to Ranchero. read more

Okay so I was hovering between 3 and four stars on this one. We went there last week and I ordered the seafood chimichanga, I didn't even make it out of the restaurant before I know I clearly had eaten some bad shrimp. YUCK! Stomach churning bathroom visiting fun. We have been to this restaurant many many times before. The service is supper slow but the food is really good. My first mistake was to order seafood in the desert. oops I called the restaurant to let them know later that evening and they were pretty dis-concerned. I drove my family from Bend to have a late lunch here (2:30-ish). If you've ever had chicken soup by boiling the carcass, you know how authentic and homemade it tastes. Well let me tell you, the chicken tortilla soup tasted like that! The chicken was moist and it all was VERY flavorful. Even the chicken in other dishes looked and tasted like it was roasted. HORRIBLE SERVICE!! Food is not good either. We get there we were seated, they brought chips in, then they forgot about us. They never asked us what we wanted to drink she only brought water then left again, she was not even friendly. Took forever to come back to ask if we were ready to order. We ordered & they still had not asked us what we wanted to drink, the food was not good, messy, old. They brought us a wrong order too. The server was apparently in a bad mood. Also, they never brought us utensils until we asked them, & that was when we already had our food on the table. Very annoyed. Never going back! read more

Weird smell right when we walked in. Hostess/waitress at the desk gave us menus with salsa all over one of them. Waitress did not know the difference in a taquito and a flauta. Table,condiments, and menus were sticky and dirty. What does that say for the kitchen? uggg...why hasnt this place been shut down? read more
