Do NOT, under any circumstances, order the Patty Melt. They have no idea how to make one. I got a dry burger on a bun with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese. That's all. They were out of Swiss cheese. It's extremely unprofessional to run out of ingredients so early in the day, especially for something that's not ordered a lot. A Patty Melt is a burger with grilled onions and Swiss cheese on rye bread and then grilled like a grilled cheese sandwich. I will never order "delivery" from these folks again. The food wasn't even mediocre. We had a grilled chicken, and the southwest grilled chicken with baked potato and salad bar, my daughter had green beans and mashed potatoes. The salad bar was below par. Chicken was just weird. No flavor at all. One dinner was $18 & the other was $19 and $3 tea. I felt like it was about $4 more than it should've been, the menu is pricy in my opinion for what you get however there is nothing else in that town. Service wasn't great either. The lady was nice but my tea was empty through half my meal @ $3 a glass. Now that was some good eats! I was in town on a business trip and Rancher's was a suggestion of where to go eat. I went for lunch and had the amazing salad bar which was filled with fresh vegetables. If you miss the large salad bars of yore, you will love this place. Their salad bar reminds of the one I used to find at Steak & Ale way back in the day. It has lots of choices and they are all good. I had the ribeye lunch with the baked potato on this trip. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and seasoned well with lots of salt and pepper. The meat was tender and had no gristle. The baked potato was hot, fresh, and flaky. The toppings were fresh and plentiful. The food and drink portions are large. The service was attentive and friendly. Keep in mind this place is popular, so don't be surprised if the parking lot is full when you pull in. I've never had to wait. This is going to be pretty lengthy. Approximately last week, I ordered a large taco salad. Cool. I called it in and then went to pick it up as I don't like eating in public. Once I picked it up, I walked back to my hotel room and indulged. It was good to say the least. But then I started to think "Am I missing something?" I looked at all of the reviews and I had the same exact thing MINUS the taco chips itself. But I didn't fret. 2 days ago, I did the same thing again. When I called the restaurant to place my order, a lady was on the other line sounding very nonchalant. I asked her whether or not if taco chips come with the order and she answered me nastily. It should've been a red flag for me to hang that phone up right then and there, but I was hungry and didn't want to travel any farther. I politely excused her, placed my order, and went to pick it up. Once I got there, the lady I assumed that took my order rudely was talking to a friend of hers, and blatantly ignored me waiting. Another lady came and checked me out. That's not all. This time, I was charged EXTRA for things that I did not request. So first you answer the phone disrespectfully and now you charge me extra? Lol. I will not be returning. The only thing that's saving me from giving this restaurant one star is the nice little Texas star on the outside of the building. Will not be returning. read more

Having returned from deployment, I had my heart set on a great steak dinner. I was sorely disappointed. First, i never heard of a Texas steakhouse closed on Sat/Sun but it was. Came back this evening hoping it was going to be worth the wait but no. I entered and was promptly greeted and sat. The carpet floor was disgusting throughout. My waitress was nice but I thought was a lot too casual wearing jeans that were ripped down both legs. The menu was pretty extensive for a steakhouse. I ordered a 7 oz filet (med rare) with a loaded baked potato and salad bar. The salad bar screamed cheap cafeteria. I had to pick through the plates as several were dirty. There was waxy shredded cheese, dried out carrot slices, and assortment of canned jello product, macaroni salad and misc pickled products. My steak and potato arrived. The potato was dead and wrapped in foil with what seemed to be a butter flavored oil and way too much waxy cheese. The steak was cooked properly but was a terrible cut. It was quite tough and I struggled to saw through it with a serrated steak knife. The steak and potato was served with a type of Texas toast which seemed to be soaked another butter flavored oil product. I hate to sound so critical but you should know what to expect before you go. Hell Yeah I'll be back!! Great little place to check out for Dinner! I was kind of in a rush when I stopped by this place, so I ordered a burger and the salad bar. Hamburgers are HUGE!! Very Impressed how tasty they were. Salad Bar: Everything was fresh and well kept. For a 'mom & pop' joint, they had a real good selection that I was thoroughly pleased with. Service: Fast and Very Very Friendly P.S. I think Gatesville is a Dry-Town....I didnt see any alcoholic beverages on their menu or in the gas station next door to the restaurant. It was crazy busy but there was one available table so no waiting. The lunches we ordered were chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Both were good but the fried steak was a little over fried and the breading was therefore a little tough. My girlfriend doesn't like gravy on her CFS so that contributed to the hardness of the batter. I believe if it was covered in gravy it would be fine. She dips her CFS in Heinz 57. Is that even legal in Texas? The salad bar that was included with the lunches was well stocked and covered two cold tables. A lot of variety with pasta, pea, potato and corn salads as well as chopped or shredded lettuce, spinach and all the goodies that go with salad. I was almost too full after eating my salad to finish my chicken fried chicken, very good mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, bowl of gravy and Texas toast. Pretty loud at lunch time. read more

The food was great I had the rib eye steak and my expectations were exceeded I had two sides with my steak, I recommend to slow down when eating the sides because they come out hotttt. For desert I had the cheesecake and like the steak my expectations were exceeded. The salad bar also has a great variety at no extra cost...
