So I'd like to start with what was positive about coming to school here. I graduated in 2021. I…read morereally liked Mrs.Nirmal and Mr.Doctor. Mrs.Nirmal teaches chemistry and she's great. Mr.Doctor teaches history and he is very knowledgeable and helps his students succeed. My issues with the school started in 11th grade in the middle of the year before the pandemic. I was not permitted to join the dance company despite having a rudamentary knowledge of hip hop. This crushed me since I entered in the school specifically to the performing magnet arts program and that did not work out. There was an insane amount of discrimination and bullying going on behind closed doors and when it was brought to the staff's attention more specifically Mrs.Arana she did nothing about it. I experienced the worst cyberbullying and bullying from the kids while it attendance to this school that I'm now 23 years old and I still recall stuff that went on. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Do not send your kid here. I would recieve an endless amount of death threats, abelist comments on my former youtube channel, and a lot of people were targetting me because of my religion so I feel discriminated against. Making fun of my religion and sending me death threats is not the way anybody should spend their high school years. I know high school is bad but it does not have to be that bad if you choose the correct school. The students are insanely historically not informed and some of the comments they made towards me behind closed doors are disgusting, nobody should ever be spoken to the way that I was. In response to telling Miss Arana that I was being targeted for being Jewish, she said "there are conflicts in the middle East." NO! We are in Los Angeles and this is her school and this is what people are writing to me here and now, so I felt like she could have done more to take care of it. At the time there was even a "tea page" on instagram where there was a lot of cyberbullying. There were maybe 50 or so posts about me on there and I didn't really have any friends at the school so it was very unfair to me what was going on.

But since my kid liked the performing arts magnet and was also interested in the machinist program we gave it a try and I am glad we did. My kid loves Van Nuys High School. The teachers are nice, patient, and very attentive to talk to parents about any issues or if they need help. The students at this school are a diverse group from different areas not just from the valley and this is something that I liked. When we were considering high schools for our son we looked all over the valley and this was the best fit for him. My wife and I really were sold when we went on a tour of the campus and got to speak to current students. They are so talented! It blew our minds how many cool things they are doing and how smart they are, we left beyond impressed. The three magnets are great too, Medical Magnet, STEAM Magnet, and the Performing Arts Magnet. Of course all schools have their pros and cons. We are excited to see how much our son loves to learn and attend school. He even tries to go to school when he is sick, that is how much he loves Van Nuys High School and his teachers. Honestly we have only scratched the surface because this school is one of top LAUSD AP passing schools, they have awards for Auto Skills, Machinist, and Film programs, their newspaper has won awards called the Mirror (also available online), not to mention the musicals, dance groups, choirs, and various musicians are wildly talented. We went to see the musical Mamma Mia and WOW it was AMAZING!!!!! Van Nuys High School might just be one of the best high schools in Los Angeles and the most underrated in the valley. It truly is a diamond in the rough. My wife and I are so excited to see our son continue to flourish, specially because starting in the 2025-2026 school year they will implement the block schedule and the students will have even more opportunities to learn and explore other subjects and programs. It has been a great experience so far, we are happy to be part of the Van Nuys High School Wolf Pack.

Her name is Cynthia Braily. One of her grandchild is in the 3rd grade, and the other one in the 4th grade. The level of studies, academic wise is great. Recently, I attended a small 4th of July program that they have organized and I really enjoyed my time at this school. They have a nice area for the students to play, an auditorium, classes from Kindergarten until 6th grade. Clean classrooms, office, bathrooms, and kids just love their teachers. But that was almost like three decade ago so I'm pretty sure things changed since then. Like any school, the experience here will vary based on some preference. They have a decent size play area toward the back with jungle gym for kids, basketball court and grass area too. The parking here is all street parking but it's usually not bad. I have a couple of friends who also used to go to this school as well and some didn't like it. My wife and I like to walk around the school during the daytime or evening but never when it's pitch black due to safety concern. You just have to watch out for dog droppings here because some people don't pick it up when they are walking their dog.

Of course, it's not perfect, perfection does not exist and the school is facing some challenges, one of them being the lowest performing elementary school in the entire San Fernando Valley. However, that being said it has to do a lot with many immigrant students coming here not knowing much English starting to really dive into the American education system. My kid didn't even last 4 months there. She is a handful but like any kid: you speak to them like…read morean adult and make them aware of consequences eventually the child will listen. If a child does not respect an adult the child will let people know. Well, this teacher decided it was a good idea to be-little my kid in a class dojo app. Which the other parents, of the other kids, can see the videos. So naturally, the parents started to complain. My kid was specifically targeted to show how she would miss behave and made and example of to the other students. (If thats not a lawsuit idk what is but thats another story.) Even though I specifically said call me if you need my help and gave my personal phone number. I would open the app and sure enough. My kid was miss behaving. Only a handful of times do I remember being a positive post. Mind you this is a 5yr old. A 5 yr old who knows nothing about school but shes expected to know from the get-go. A 5yr old whom just started kindergarten. Kinder! It suppose to be fun and do arts and crafts as well as see baby chicks hatch.... but there was none of that. For a mom, its hard enough to send your kid to school much less dealing with incompetence. So, I pulled her out. It was the best decision I ever made. Now she goes to a charter school and is reading on her own and writing on her own. Shes also doing a bit of addition and subtraction. As well as learning spanish on the side. Yet, shes still a kid and not a robot. The school system is not like it was before and the teachers union is ruineing everything. Its not about the kids anymore but the cushy paying job. If teacher would be held accountable for the students grades things would be a lot different.
