I adore the California fries here and will eat it as my meal. Different chefs seasons differently, so sometimes it's like a gift from heaven while other times it's still good but not quite ambrosia level. The Mexican Burrito is really good but since it has avocado it may not serve well as left overs. It's very fresh and yummy tho. My friend go authentic tacos so I'll definitely have to try those next time we visit because they're legit authentic, not the fake Americanized version. This place has live mariachis that come every other Thursday from 6-9, which is why we went tonight. They will go to each table, take requests, and play a few songs. To Try: Taco: Al Pastor Tacos: Avocado Quesadilla: Mexicana Quesadilla: Pastor Quesadilla: Eduardo's Love: - Appetizer: California Fries (chicken) FAV! Eat as my meal - Quesadilla: Felipe - Appetizer: Guacamole - Salsa Like: - Appetizer: Queso - Burrito: Mexicano - Fajitas: Granero - Side: Refried Beans Ok: - Side: Rice

    Not looking good for RG!

I have been here before and it really never appealed to me. The visit before this one (they were closed on that visit due to being short staffed) they had a sign on the door talking about a "New Menu" and since I am desperately looking for a new place to call "Mexi-Home" I thought I would give it a try again. I arrived to find them very busy on a Thursday night. Apparently, they do Mariachi every other Thursday and I got lucky and picked one of those nights. (Eye Roll) So, I am not from Mexico but I am pretty sure Johnny Cash, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Garth Brooks aren't either. That was mostly what they played. They walked around and visited all of the rednecks for requests and boy that was entertaining. I heard several requests for Freebird, some for Slipknot, Shania Twain, Pink Floyd, and others. No Jorge Alberto Negrete Moreno can be found here folks! My server was either extremely bad with English or just didn't care about my questions. I am pretty sure she could understand me just fine. I inquired about the dinner that had Tamales and Enchilada's together. I asked her what kind they were and she said "beef". I again asked with more clarity, "It's and Beef tamale and Beef enchilada?" Yes. "Can I get a different kind?" "Yes, Beef, yes" was here response. I gave up and just decided to take it as it comes. The chips and salsa are pretty standard for this area. The chips are on the thick side and served warm. The salsa is served pretty cold and is not bad at all. Food arrives and damn that's ugly! Why is there ground beef all over the top of my plate? The rice and beans didn't really have much going on for them and were just kind of tepid. The enchilada was the best thing on the plate but was still just Meh really. The beef inside tasted like that, just beef, no seasoning, just dry tasteless ground beef. It is a shame that they covered the tamale with the same dry unseasoned beef. It was in fact, not beef tamale on the inside though, but was chicken I am pretty sure. It may have been pork but I don't think so. It was not good folks, bottom line! Dry and tasteless... Unfortunately, this is what I remember from every visit here and cannot find anything that I really like. By this time the "Band" had made its way to the large table next to me and was jamming out all of the hits. At this point, Ring of Fire was being blared out of a trumpet about 18-24 inches from my head as I tried to eat my food. This was extremely annoying and just added to my frustration. Unsatisfied with the food, service, and the environment I decided to get up and leave most of my meal sitting there and just eat something at home. I had no check so I had to stand at the front and wait for my server to get it for me. She was running around waiting on tables all over the restaurant and it took a several minutes to get out of there. She passed me four or five times while I was standing at the register waiting to pay. She then whips out the check from her little server book. It was in there the entire time I was standing at the register. The search continues...

Everyone was full and happy after our meal. The flavors were incredible. The calabacitas were beautifully seasoned in a light tomato based sauce - both my husband and I actually said "wow!" out loud with the first bite. We eat a lot of Mexican food, were from California and travel to Mexico frequently and even so this place stands out for the flavor, quality, and care put into the food. I regret not ordering a wider range of menu items to share because the narrow slice of offerings we tried were heavenly. Beyond the food, I love the warmth of this small restaurant, my kids got lollipops from the waitress while we waited for our takeout order. There were lots of families with kids eating in and it was a really nice relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

But I thought that wasn't how reviews should go. So then in my head I started justifying all the ways I could make this 5 star. But - it just wasn't. My food was...okay. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It was a cool place with grocery items in addition to the restaurant. I'll go back. I'm a sucker for hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants. But my carne asada is probably 3 star. However, the salsa that came with our chips and salsa order was fire! Fresh, spicy, flavorful, colorful. The meal was expensive and just all right. But we shall return I suspect.

Food was fine, the experience and just the vibe was pretty cool. Exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. I'll definitely come back but will probably go with something more "basic" like tacos or a burrito. I had chilaquiles with steak and egg. Eggs were cooked exactly how I asked (over medium). As often occurs the cut of meat for the steak isn't the best cut of steak on the cow so while it wasn't chewy and gristly it wasn't tender and juicy either. Same with the wife's carne asada - we've both had better steaks at other Mexican places around here. The pork rind wagon wheels (I think that's what they were) were good but we got an order of chips and salsa as well ($5.99!!!) because one of the kids wasn't going to touch those wagon wheels no way no how. The salsa is very good - it's the red and the green mixed with pico de gallo and is quite spicy. All in all the experience and the vibe of the place was better than the food but I'm hopeful some different things off the menu would lead to a better eating experience. Don't get me wrong, the food was fine just not great and with the total bill hitting 95 bucks it wasn't worth that. But I will be back to try the street tacos or burritos.

Olive Branch newest Taco SENSATION!!…read more Just kidding, they have been here a while. These fine folks were formally know as "Tacoholic", maybe they still are in the truck, not sure. If I am being honest, they were better off in the truck. It had better visibility. It was right there on 178. You can't find this place even if you really want to. There is no sign in the parking lot, on the building, on the door to the entrance, nothing at all. In fact, the day we came, there was a freaking fish fry in front of their door that blocked access. I thought my wife was wrong, apparently she follows them on some shit and knew the speakeasy password. It was also actually cooler outside (outside temp was 94) than inside this place. We ate at the bar and I almost melted. It may have been that devil salsa that also contributed some as well. Anyway, my point is, eating in my car is more comfortable than inside here any day until November comes. The family is nice, I have always loved this place and Frutanas as well. The dude that waited on us was nice too. Not nice enough to wipe my sweat. Speaking of... loose ass Waffle House style napkins are not the move OTTC!! I want them to thrive but between the no signage and obvious ongoing A/C issues this and all places in the brick barn are having, it's gonna be tough. Should put the damn trailer in the parking lot at least. Geez. Food was decent. I liked the cheese dip, other dips were meh. Burrito was not as good as the truck version. Salsa isn't as good as the trucks. Beans were old and stiff. Four starts because they are good people. Needs improving all around. '24 - 57/100
