We used to come here every week for dinner on Sundays, it was our "thing" we did for months if not years. For some reason La Hacienda fell out of our rotation. Well, we made it back this past week, everyone was sick of being cooped up in the house with the bad weather and cold temps but we went ahead and braved the elements and went for it. Now I gotta say, I was really wanting that Mole Rojo - it was gonna be so delicious and warming on a cold miserable winter's eve. My youngest son was even convinced so we were both going to get Mole Rojo. Alas, it was not to be as they were out of stock. DANGIT!! Had to settle for carnitas which were very good. Other members of the group got burritos and quesadillas for dinner, everyone said it was as good as we remember it being. Staff was friendly and apologetic that they were out of Mole. We had almost no wait at all to be seated and our dinners came out pretty quickly. There weren't many customers in the place on this evening. Nice quiet meal in a nice quiet restaurant. This is part of the La Hacienda chain in the area. It's family run and operated but this is the one that is the most so. Since it's affiliated with the one in Collierville it has the same menu and food. The owner said the difference is they use slightly different spices. I couldn't tell too much in my dish, which is my usual Burrito Asada de Pollo, but we could tell a little more in hubby's dish, the Combination of Steak and Chicken Nachos. Hubby even said the salsa was just as good, if not better. The rice wasn't any better here and may be worse than in Cville. Another difference is they don't all make the same specials. The menu is typical for the area, cheese dip is thick and rich, salsa has more umph to it than traditional salsas, and they serve Coke products (important for some of us!). Only ONE star? Yes, and here's why. We ordered carryout from here on a Sunday night. The gentleman that took the order had a very thick accent. So much that I couldn't tell if he was speaking Spanish or English. There was about 10 minutes of dialog that I'm almost certain was unintelligible from both parties. This was in addition to 3 minutes worth of silent pauses from his end. That said, I went to pickup the order and it was correct. The hostess was very friendly and clearly not the person I spoke to on the phone. We ordered three beef burritos and one chicken nacho. The burritos were a bit small for the price. Also, they were covered, literally, COVERED in spicy Cheez Whiz sauce. The taste was average at best. I suppose I could be wrong because the only thing I could taste was the Cheez Whiz. The chicken nachos on the other hand were actually pretty decent. However, the aftermath of it all came very close to ruining our vacations. Me and my two buddies were running to the bathroom like junkies running to a corner. The only person who did not blow through rolls of t.p. was my girlfriend. But how you ask? You guessed it. This place was a nice place with very pleasant service and some tasty food. I ordered a combo plate that had a chili relleno, chicken enchilada and a beef taco with beens and rice. All was very tasty but the rice was a little bland. The food arrived in a timely manner as well. A buddy of mine ordered a mega-rita and it was pretty huge. He then asked for a mega-long island and let me tell you, this this was a beast. He said they were both very tasty and he was happy. The long island had to be at least 32oz and it was only $12. Positives- They were quick with our order and the complimentary chips and salsa were pretty good. Negatives- The menus were gross- they felt greasy. Apparently smoking is permitted because we smelled cigarette smoke. This fact alone makes for a bad review unless of course you don't mind blackening your lungs while eating.The water they gave my husband tasted nasty; bitter is the only word that comes to mind. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is really good and the chips and salsa are perfect! The chips are made fresh and are the thin kind. They're the perfect vessel for delicious salsa. I wish I could buy this salsa in the store, but the closest I can find is the Herdez brand. I've tried several different things on the menu from the pollo fundido to chicken fajita quesadilla to the flank steak and haven't come across anything that I don't like yet!
