This makes me Incredibly sad to write this review. We are from out of town. When we plan trips to NYC we also make it a point to go to Rancho in Hells Kitchen. The first couple times we've been there the bartender has made us the BEST Paloma we've ever had; that's why we go back. In this recent visit the bartender was drunk off his tail, he could barely function. SOOO DRUNK it was almost embarrassing. I believe his name was Juan based off the receipt. He was WASTED doing shots with every customer. We sat at the bar and It took him Over 15 minutes to take our order. After he argued with me about Espalon; he finally started to make our drinks. Keep in mind we also placed a food order with him as well. The bartender asked us 2 additional times if we wanted to order food. Yes, we gave him our order two times before. Bartender obviously has an issue with alcohol and can't perform his job his job correctly without being wasted. Last time coming here as we went to the Peruvian spot next door and received excellent service and immaculate drinks at Kausa. Again. Sad to write this review as we have loved our experience in the past. I hope yall budgeted for how many free shots he was giving out. After we went to an off Broadway show -The Play That Goes Wrong, great Groupon find and a really fun play- we walked around to find a place to eat and landed at a place that ....was closing. (I guess looking for fresh sushi at 8:30 at night was probably a risk anyways.) , Across the street however was a beautiful Mexican place. It's a simple restaurant that people literally walk in and out of to see what's going on. The answer, is eating good food. We had great service and there was a delightful menu to choose from, including a red sauce on my spinach enchiladas, which is really really hard to find these days for some reason. Most of the time you get a mole or green chili sauce and I'm just not a fan. People, I literally want red enchilada sauce on my enchiladas. I was also delightfully pleased with the fresh guacamole . The food was tasty, flavorful, and nicely presented, and the service was very quick, possibly because the place was almost empty due to the holiday. A couple of things, however, kept the experience short from being a five-star one: the tequila shots were served without any salt; the enchiladas were slightly over salted; and the fajita came with only warm tacos and rice and beans, without any additional sides. Came in tonight (Saturday night) & there was about a 20 min or more wait. The staff was very apologetic and checked in on us periodically. Once seated, we were quickly provided with fresh cold water & our menus. The margaritas were ok, wish it had more of the flavor advertised but they weren't weak drinks so that made up for it. Went to pick up a mobile order from this location and had one of the most uncomfortable and humiliating experiences ever. The woman behind the counter actively racially profiled my friend as we were simply trying to grab our food. There were two similar-looking bags for pickup, so my friend did what anyone would do -- checked the labels to make sure we got the right one. Before we could even explain, the employee snatched the bags out of her hands and told her she "couldn't read or look at the bag because people take things." Excuse me? We were literally picking up the order we paid for. It was incredibly disrespectful, and the way she singled my friend out in front of everyone was flat-out humiliating. The entire restaurant turned to look as if my friend had done something wrong when she absolutely hadn't. There's no excuse for treating customers this way. Its smaller than the upper east side one and I felt like it was much louder and rowdier but I still enjoyed my time. I tried different tacos this time and the food was really good. Our waiter seemed ot be manning many tables so he was not as attentive but he did have a lot to manage and I still appreciated the service very much. My wife and I visited Rancho Tequilería tonight for dinner after seeing it was close to our hotel. She ordered the Traditional Mole de Puebla while I got the Enchiladas Enmoladas (without avocado). They were absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. Savory, slightly sweet from the mole sauce, and just enough spice to warm you up on a cold night. The waitress was EXTREMELY kind to our child, which I very much appreciated. On to lunch: $11 gets you a entree with a soup OR salad. Pete and I both chose the soup (tortilla soup). It didn't have chicken in it, but we liked it. Another table got salad and it looked like a delicious, generous portion. Pete chose the chicken burrito and I got the carnitas (pork) tacos. The tacos were amazing. They came with rice and beans. I asked for hot sauce and they made it sound like they had to ring it in and there would be a charge. I thought that was kind of odd then ultimately, they did not bring it so I can't tell you if it's good. We also ordered a side of fried plantains as an appetizer. The restaurant tends to get really busy during the evening hours since it's located near the Broadway theaters, but not crazy to the point where you're not enjoying yourself and your company. The restaurant is sizable for a large party, but make sure you call ahead if that's what you plan on doing. The drinks are well made, and the food is of quality.
