I recently had something going on with my eye where I was seeing flashing white lights and other issues. Luckily I happened to be talking to my daughter who mentioned that her former coworkers who had eye issues went here and were pleased with the treatment they received. I called to see if they had any appts for the afternoon (it was a Friday). They asked what my issue was and after telling them, they told me to come right over. Now getting there was interesting. I was coming from the south and Waze told me at the Sample Road exit, to take the 2 left lanes and make a left. Well, when you do that, you've passed the place because the entrance is further east. I had to do a U-turn. It was still a little confusing because there isn't any signage that tells you that the first entrance once you make the U-turn is where you need to enter. They're doing construction at the hospital which makes it even more confusing. I finally made it and entered the building. Their office is on the 2nd floor. I got checked in and filled out the required paperwork. They were concerned that my retina detached but after viewing the images that were taken, that didn't happen. Dillon, who did the images of my eyes, was very personable with a great sense of humor. The female doctor whom I saw (I don't remember her name) was also fantastic. She got an eyeball to show and explain what was happening with my eye. I was there for about 3 hours which seems like the average time that I've spent at my regular eye doctor's office. read more

Rand Eye Institute is with out a doubt the very best eye facility and physicians I have ever seen in 75 years of wearing glasses.I went to Rand 5 years ago for eye exams because I wanted the very best for my single eye vision.As it turned out because of steroid use I developed cateracts in my one good eye and could no longer read. DR. David Rand assured me he operated on single vision people all the time.Dr Rand did a fabulous,unbeleavable operation ,not only can I read but i no longer need glasses except for my computer use.I am shocked at this result. DR David had me come into the office every month and then 2 months. I was very happy with the place. I found the process smooth. I thought the consultation was thorough. As I first walked in, someone by the desk greeted me and directed me to the floor I needed to be. I gave my name and that's all it took. A very efficient office. Each floor had a nice waiting area. It was a large area. It was nicely decorated. They had a water fountain and coffee machine on each floor. They also had multiple TVs. The waiting to be seen was not long for me; however, the exam took a few hours. I was taken from room to room to floor. The staff was great. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. I got a full explanation from a doctor and options. I recommend this place. I got to meet the famous Dr. Rand by the elevator and that was so cool. read more

I had previously written a three star review for this practice, which unfortunately contained scathing criticisms regarding an issue that I had during the first of my two, cataract surgeries. Due to a technical glitch, I was unable to remove that review, however I wish to update it, herein. My second cataract surgery went well, and the doctors went above and beyond all expectations to rectify the prior issue. I have found them all to be thorough, highly competent, informative and personable. The concerns I previously had were quelled, and I am completely satisfied with my continuity of care. Dr David is particularly adept, and always willing to have patients voice their concerns. I actually wound up hating this place. You often wait for hours before being seen. You never get to see the same person twice, even if requested, and you are rushed around like mad. I was asked each time I was seen if I was satisfied with my vision and I never said I was happy, yet they wrote that I was in the notes. Most of the clerical staff is in a bad mood and not at all friendly. I developed a PCO, which is not abnormal and not their fault. After this experience, I am going to another surgeon. When I asked for my records, they said, "sure, for a charge"!! Done, finished, moving on. read more

The wait times here are terrible. I have been waiting for 1.5 hours to see the eye doctor for a prescheduled appointment, and I am still waiting. It is a 4 hour ordeal every time I come. I have to switch doctors. This institute does not respect the patients time. There are 15 patients in the lobby on the third floor, and may be others on lower floors. read more

Dr Danzig is an amazing retina specialist. Unfortunately Rand allowed this man to leave the practice. No notification to his patients. I showed up for my appointment and wasn't told until 30 minutes into exam. It took 3 doctors 3 hours to do what Dr Danzig does in 1 hour. Shame on you Rand Institute, very poor communication. I just had my one year checkup with Dr Danzig, who performed surgery on my eye. I had a hole in the macula of my left eye, a VERY SERIOUS problem. Unfortunately due to life events, this injury had gone on for a period of time undetected. When I found out how severe it was, I was afraid it might not be repairable. Fortunately, I came to the right place! Dr Danzig and his staff were exceptional. My care was superb and the surgery was a tremendous success. It's amazing how much my vision has been improved! The absolute worst experience ever, avoid like the plague! Appointments regularly run a minimum of 1-2 hours behind. You will spend an entire day at Rand in their disgusting offices that haven't been refurbished since 1970. Offices are filthy, evident when you walk in the building and go up the dust covered elevator. The office administrator is an absolute moron who blames their inability to make appointment times on the amount of patients needed emergency care. Doctors do not read charts prior to appointments and often times do not remember what they said/prescribed previously. This place should be shut down by the Department of Health. read more

There when you need them but care can be hit or miss. I have mixed feelings about rand eye institute and here's why: I hesitated going to see them when my optometrist recommended seeing Dr. Allison Rand for a cornea issue because I read all the reviews about wait time. After wasting about 8 months seeing another doctor, I gave in and went to Rand. Complaints about wait times are true. I literally heard a patient ask how much longer until she was going to be seen because she only had limited amount of oxygen in her oxygen tank (Patient demographic leans towards the older side, with some patients making use of the courtesy bus.) Flip side is that if you really do have an emergency, they do fit you in, even if you have to wait a long time. Appointments need to be booked waaay in advance and good luck if you need to reschedule. I feel like I wasted another 8 months with Dr. Allison repeatedly giving me steroid drops and telling me to compress - knowing it was impossible for me to do it as many times as was required because I was caring for a newborn at the time and barely had time to take care of myself. I nearly gave up trying to figure out what was wrong with my eye and vision after she scolded me for not following her compressing direction. I even tried seeing another doctor in the practice for another opinion but once he realized that Dr. Allison was seeing me, he basically told me that the only thing I could do was keep compressing and wait until Dr. Allison came back from maternity leave. I thought I'd give them one last try and am so glad that I did. It so happened that Dr. Allison was out that day and no one bothered to tell me beforehand or even when I got to the office. I was really peeved when I found out, but Dr. David Rand walked in and for the first time in 1.5 years, gave me hope of a solution. He gave me options other than compressing and it just blew my mind why they were never mentioned to me before. He suggested inserting punctal plugs and instead of having me come back another day (and wait again) to insert them, he fit me in. My vision returned to normal thanks to Dr. David and whatever fluke that made Dr. Allison not go in that day. Overall, I'm grateful for the care that I received and for getting my vision back but it was quite a journey getting there. Depending who you talk to, staff can be nice. One of the ladies is especially ornery. They started offering coffee / hot water, probably to make the waiting better. There are some TVs but very few plugs for phone chargers. Yes- I make sure to bring a phone charger and snacks/lunch whenever I go. Waiting rooms feel dated but my impression is that the equipment and technology they have is up to date. read more

Dr. Rand recently did my cataract surgery and he really has a wonderful bedside manner. Everyone I met whilst going through the procedure was top notch. Yes, you may have to wait a bit, but I just brought a backpack with my iPad, a stainless steel container filled with water, some fruit, and a book. If you come prepared for a bit of a wait, it's not so bad. If you come and twiddle your thumbs, yes, you may get bored quickly. I have nothing negative to say about my experience. I would highly recommend the Rand Eye Institute and have already. I'm over the moon at how well I now see also. BONUS! The institute is less than a mile from my home. Win, win! read more

Sorry, but this place is very slow moving. I had a normal checkup after 5 years with various tests with 3 technicians/and doctors. The appointment took 4 hours!!! Each tech worked quickly but the lag time in between each process was about 40 minutes each. No no no. Not doing this again. I've been getting eye exams for over 35 years and it never takes more than an hour or so. I'll have to pass on this place next time due to lack of efficiency. Good luck! read more

You have to wait over four hours to see a doctor with an appointment. My wife had a 9.20 am appointment and was called after 11am and was sent out to wait again after they did some preliminary tests until 12.07pm. We did not leave there until 1.38pm. They are specialists in detecting not only diseases of the eye but other diseases that affect your eye. *** Your Eye Sight might be wonderful but your Eye Health might be poor and that is important for you to know Their state of the art facility can help diagnose other problems that stem from outside of your eye, such as diabetes or high blood pressure. If you or someone that you love has one of those illnesses, they need to have a comprehensive eye exam at a reputable Eye institute not just an optometrist or eyeglass office. I recently referred 2 older women to Rand and initially they were concerned about eye injections. One of them needed them but the other one started to tweak her diet a little bit that it already began to help her eyes so they don't do procedures that are needless. They are very forthright with you. They handle a wide array of insurance. The eye injections that you hear so often are not a surgical procedure - they are actually done in Dr Danzig's office. Yes, plan to be there for at least 90 minutes to 2 hours but don't think that you will be waiting all that time. You will be seeing a wide variety of doctors that specialize in different areas of eye health. The time is well worth it. Bring a bottle of water and a piece of fruit or some nuts! Dr Danzig and his team have not only saved my Eye Health but I am sure have saved my life. What a blessing they have been to me and such a help! If you see me call me here every few months to write a new review it's because I cannot say enough good things about this place and I know how many people are missing out on overall health merely by not getting a comprehensive ophthalmology eye exam. Poorly run office. Annual check-up consisted of 4 hours in the waiting room and only 6 minutes with a doctor or technician.

After the referring optometrist sent me to Rand Eye institute for an Emergency Eye appt. It became not as such. I waited for 6 hours to be seen. I was not told it would be such a long wait. Hadn't eaten, lucky that one of the staff had crackers to give me. I stopped payment at BOA because I wanted the Dr. to call me, the patient. He never called. Privacy of my condition with the Dr was an issue. Door was not closed. With eyes dilated, I was sent out to get my own bloodwork at night. I waited. Got that done on my own $. I asked why I couldn't have it done there? Told it would be too long of wait at hospital right next door.. Dr. ordered a neural optometrist to see me for ION caused by stress and force against my eye at the time. Some were complaining about smoking. The referring blamed that as the main reason but I didnt agree. Talked about stem cell therapy from donors. Also about directional pull on my eye. He said no cure but steroid short term. I dont want to take steroids. Some research on stem cell. On internet, it said some success has been made with a patented process in Germany. This may not have reached here in Fl. yet. I was not aware that I was going to be sent all around when their facility is an eye hospital that should have been equipped to handle such. Maybe this review may help I was not on Medicare as of yet. Opted to wait until then. Also offered to pay for check and their cost from my bank for stop payment. I was charged as well as the company which didnt make sense to me. Banks. Called later,feeling I should have. Offered to pay $350.Billing lady wouldn't accept my check. I offered. Said I go to Gardens. Had appt with David Rand but canceled. Too long of drive. Billing lady kinda crabby, must have been stressed as I have been. I paid $99 for bloodwork at another facility. Painless bloodwork. Ruled out Arteritic ION. Went back to referring Dr.asking for contacts. who made glasses for me to the tune of $500 when I had no insurance. No contacts because my eye condition was beyond his capability of optometry. Wish old medicare was back. Just 20% needed. Didn't want to see one of the other Dr's referred to at Kasten Eye center because he shamed my dead husband at a funeral for him for personal reasons about religion. Bad choice by me in that dept. Not saying that he is a bad Eye Dr.or surgeon. After reaching Medicare age, I went to Boca Eye Center. Somehow when I scheduled appt was not made with right Dr. but both Dr's there have connections to Rand. I felt the one I had appt could have seen me and conferred together.. It was all not handled right. Now it's been two years, I think. June of 2022 is when this initially happened. I have had two more episodes of aural migraine. (ION) Lines of temporary sight from stress. I felt I should have been seen at Boca Eye. when I had appt. Something else always pops up. Being widowed is not easy. Pain does not feel good. Now it's open enrollment again. Something is wrong with my phone. I can't get through phone lines and with all these other mouths moving about something or other. Hope this helps. My other half got an infection in his left eye so I took him to the Rand Eye Institute and WOW! I was not only totally impressed by the beauty and comfort of the facility, but by the friendliness of the staff and the incredible expertise of the physicians. All of their equipment is cutting edge up to date high tech from a laser cataract removal machine to their patient room computers and screens. Our appointment time was promptly honored, he was given a full eye exam, his ophthalmologist took time with us and explained everything in an easily understandable detail. Why would you continue to go to a business for more than 20 years if the business wasn't zpectacular? You wouldn't! I sing the praises of Rand Eye Institute in Pompano/Deerfield because .. I've been going to them for more than 20 years. & their focus is on your eye health, not just your eyesight. They see other health problems that you may have, such as vascular disease or diabetes, too. Maybe you don't know that there is a difference between Eye Health and Eye Sight, but there is. You may see perfectly and yet have serious eye problems some that may tell the tale of underlying other health issues in the rest of your body such as your heart & vascular system. Eye health affects eyesight and eyesight can also bring to light other hidden health problems that you don't realize. They have a comprehensive team of doctors and clinicians, so please plan for a long visit the first time you go. I bring something to drink & often cheese or nuts. Any wait time is well worth it, as you are seeing a cadre of professionals. They have an onsite surgery center & provide free transportation to and from appointments. I always suggest giving the drivers a tip, though it's not required or expected. Their website will tell you all the insurances that they accept but please give their appointment specialist a call if you don't see your insurance company listed. It's Not Unusual for that type of information to change. The care I get from Dr Danzig & his team for my retina & edema is thorough & caring. He has turned my health around, not only My Eye Health but other areas of my health, as well. He is nothing short of terrific! I can sing his praises all day, but let me switch on over to Dr David Rand. He is so comprehensive in his evaluation of you & he always leaves the final decision to you, the patient. He makes you feel like family & not just another paying customer. He is a wonderful surgeon & recently did an exam for me to check for cataracts .. if they need surgery. Yet I have never taken the time too thank Susan and Deborah for their dedication and courtesy at their front office. They treat patients with the utmost dignity and respect. You will wait hours and hours to be seen just for the evaluation. Waited over 6 hours and did not get procedure done as it had gotten "too late". Other people in waiting room waited an even longer time. The manager couldn't give any estimate or explanation. Do NOT go here unless you have time to waste. What. A. Joke. The staff here has no sympathy and their only "explanation" is that "Rand is the best place/doctors and that is just the way it is." Their doctors may be good but the way they run this place with little to no explanation of how long it's going to take is wrong. How about try and improve your office experience/patient care/issues instead of just saying "it is what it is". They will take great care of your eyes. Not the quickest appointments, but they are thorough in my opinion.

When an eye doctor waits for you on a Friday even when you're running 30 minutes late for an appointment, you know you have a winner. I found Rand Eye to get a second opinion and get my condition resolved. They were able to fit me in Friday for their last appointment of the day. Still I ran late but a call to their front desk staff ensured me that they'd wait. They also called back to make sure I was in fact coming, and even went to the parking lot to help me find a spot. That's customer service! Dr. Galazo was the first to see me for screening. Her patience, conversation about alma maters and answering all my medical questions made the torturous experience of eye drops and eye probes that much easier. Dr. Nagler was next, and equally as pleasant and informative in explaining things and the course of treatment. Julie the medical assistant closed out with explaining followup and where to get some of the drops. She also stated I could sit and wait in the comfortable lobby until the dreaded drops cleared out. This is one of those 5 star places I hope to never have to use again, but if my eyes do give me trouble I'll make the trip up to Rand. read more

It is now 5:15 and still have not seen the doctor. This has happened for the 3rd and last time. Don't waste your time at Rand. Go to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Plantation and Miami. The day before Veterans Day I was referred to Rand by the Doctor who did my eye exam. They said it was urgent so Rand called me and scheduled me for 2:00 pm. I was there at 1:30 filled out the paper work then they said I have no health insurance I told them I'm retired USCG I have health insurance and because it was Veterans Day they couldn't figure it out. So this Veterans Day they wouldn't see me although they said it's urgent possibly a tumor etc but because they couldn't figure out the insurance problem my life was less important to Rand! read more

the rating should be 5 Star, however, I'm being generous with 3 Stars. The waiting time is horrendous! On average plan on 3 hours for the simplest of appointment. there is a total disregard for the customer/patients time. They are never on schedule and think nothing of leaving you sitting in the lobby for an hour or more waiting for the initial review and additional time between various nurses or doctors.
