This was by far the best experience I have had with a dentist. I had an emergency, on july 5th at about 6 in the morning. His office was the only to have the doctor's cell number instead of listing 911 as the emergency plan. The best part, he actually answered his phone! At 6 in the morning! Even though I've never gone to see him before, he called a prescription into my local CVS for antibiotics and a pain killer, then added to his day off for an official appointment. This is the first time I've used Dr. Wong. He was fine - looked in my mouth for about 30 seconds and said everything looked good. This review is really about his dental hygienist, Suzy, who did all the work beforehand. Suzy is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Everything she suggests - from the cleaning toothpaste to things like mouthwash - she's tried herself to make sure she's not asking clients to use terrible tasting products. They were also very practical about what advice their clients might use/ignore - I grind my teeth occasionally, and both she and Dr. Wong told me "you *could* use a mouth guard but it's not absolutely necessary yet. If you're not going to use it, don't waste your money on it." That's the first time I've heard that in a dentist's office! This is also the first time in a while I have not been told I need to get an expensive toothbrush. Also the entire appointment - from signing up as a new patient to getting xrays and my teeth cleaned - took one hour. That's it! read more

Unskilled, BEWARE! A simple crown placement and Dr. Wong decided to adjust my bite. It is costing me time from work, severe pain, shifting of teeth, and jaw joint issues. I am having to spend thousands of dollars to try and correct the damage done. So far I have permanent tinnitus, teeth and nerve pain, bite and jaw alignment issues. I am now required to take pain medication on a daily basis. I have had to travel as far as the Cleveland Clinic for help correcting Dr. Wong's unskilled work. BEWARE, he is even still using old film x-rays... and when the x-rays were requested for the specialists he sent the originals to the insurance and did not keep copies. I am going to one of the top prosthodontists in the country, and I still may never fully recover.... It has been a nightmare; emotionally and financially. read more

I would rate the quality of Dr Wong's services a 4/5 or 5/5 and the customer service/billing/office a 1/5. I came to Dr Wong for a second opinion last spring and was told that the total bill for the work I needed would come out to about $400. I then proceeded to have a lot of work done over the course of the year. I was paying copays throughout the appointments, so I figured that I was up to date with my payments. I received a bill for $933 5 months after my last appointment with no explanation of the charges, incorporation of the copays, or even information about how to pay the bill. It turns out that I exceeded the maximum payment from my insurance, but none of this information about charges was explained to me prior to my appointments. I would have waited to get the work done until my insurance came through Jan 1 if I would have known. Communication about charges was not transparent and not handled professionally. I also had a lot of difficulty booking apts and confirming dates of apts as all of this was handled via the offices paper scheduling book vs anything online. Dr Wong also only communicated that he dropped my insurance a couple weeks prior to my last appointment. I wish I'd have been given more notice. Dr Wong is a good dentist, but be very wary of charges if you decide to go here. I am very disappointed that with all the money he takes in that he does not invest in his administrative support, training, and technology to keep his office running. read more

I love Dr. Wong! He does the cleaning himself, which means it only usually takes about half an hour. And since he does appointments early in the morning, I am able to go before work and not get into the office too late. I find him to be nice, honest, and he doesn't talk to you too much while you are sitting there with your mouth wide open. I also appreciate that he doesn't guilt trip you into anything, just tells you to try to floss or be better about X. A great find of a dentist! read more

So if your anything like me your afraid of the dentist. I had my first visit to Dr. Wong today after not going to the dentist in sometime. Dr. Wong knew this and didn't make me feel ashamed about my poor decision instead he educated me on what was going on with my teeth. During my initial exam he found something's that will need attention and we came up with a plan of attack to get me back on the path of good oral health. It's really important to me that I don't feel like crap when I go somewhere even if it's my fault and going into this office made me feel like I finally made a good healthy decision with a dentist that has a bedside manor and understanding of his clients needs - took a while to get in but once you sit in that chair you'll see why it takes so long to get in !!! read more

My first vist with Dr. Wong came after a few years of not seeing a dentist due to a lapse in dental insurance (thanks, grad school). After I worried myself into thinking that my teeth were falling out and my wisdom teeth rotting away, I got myself a cheap insurance plan so I could finally get back into good dental health. At my very first visit, Dr. Wong seemed very nice and friendly, and actually disclosed to me that I apparently have a pretty terrible jaw clenching/grinding problem (again, thanks, grad school), which he demonstrated to me by how smooth the back of my front top teeth were/are. To prevent the grinding from getting any worse, he prescribed that I get an NTI night guard, which is basically a little piece of acrylic that sits just over the front four teeth, and prevents your teeth from closing completely. He mentioned that these night guards are also good for relieving stress headaches due to less jaw tension from clenching all through the night, and since my (cheap) insurance wouldn't cover it, gave me a pretty sweet deal for the thing. Unfortunately, when I came in to get the night guard, it turned out that my prescription and another patients' prescriptions were switched such that I ended up having one made for my bottom teeth, when I was supposed to have one for the top. I was told that the bottom ones are actually more comfortable, but I have a permanent retainer behind my bottom teeth so the guard had to fit over the retainer, and I was worried that the retainer might pop off. Dr. Wong told me to try it out, spent a good 30 minutes making sure the thing fit well, and then told me that if I still wanted one for my top teeth, he'd make it for free. I decided to try it out for a few weeks, and discovered that it was terrible! I felt like I was putting undue pressure on those 4 bottom teeth, and became even more concerned that my retainer might fall out. Also, since it had to be loose enough to fit over the metal bar, I almost swallowed the thing one night. After a few weeks, I called Dr. Wong back to ask for my top tooth one and he told me that was not an option and was not what he had said. I tried to use it again to no avail, and basically gave up, committing myself to a life of jaw clenching and tooth grinding. Eventually, I discovered disposable night guards at CVS that are much more comfortable than this thing. My other concern was that during a cleaning, we were talking about flossing and I admitted that I was not doing a great job about flossing and he said 'do as much as you can'. What? I feel like it is part of the cleaning to be given a good ol' guilt trip about not flossing enough. I also felt like my teeth weren't really all that clean when I left. The office is a little bit outdated but the location is great. Had I not moved away from Dupont, I'd probably still be going to Dr. Wong, but I've since switched to a new dentist. read more

Dr. Wong surprised me by saying that he is a good doctor while I told him that He did it too strongly as it hurt during the teeth cleaning. What even surprised me is that he sent me a mail later that we couldn't establish a good doctor-patient relationship and recommend me to find a new dentist. Dr. Wong is an excellent dentist, and I've been seeing him for six years. He's patient in answering questions, takes time to explain things, and does cleanings himself. He's a 5-star dentist, but he loses a star for his outdated office. While well-located near the Dupont metro, the office equipment is ancient. They even use on old-school paper ledger to keep track of appointments. He really needs to invest in some computers, digital x-ray equipment, etc. Not a deal breaker for me, but might be for some. read more

Due to popular demand, Dr. Wong got rid of the new insurance billing system that he was trying out (asking patients to pay up front and then get reimbursed by their insurance companies). Yay!! (Actually, I think he got rid of the new insurance billing system some time ago but I forgot to update my review until recently, ahem.) I'm a little sad that his receptionist left though. The new receptionist is ok but doesn't seem to be as friendly. Plus I had some difficulty scheduling my last appointment -- I left a few voicemails that didn't get returned. On the other hand, when I finally got through, the receptionist told me they've been having problems with calls going straight to voicemail and then voicemails disappearing. Bottom line though, Dr. Wong is still great! Hopefully they've fixed the voicemail problems by now, but if not it's definitely worth your time to try calling a few times in order to make an appt! read more

I went to see Dr. Wong today and couldn't be happier! Dr. Wong and his staff were incredibly efficient from the moment I called to make the appointment. I called yesterday and the receptionist said Dr. Wong did not have any openings until the end of November. I told her I needed something sooner since I had been in pain since last Friday and she made arrangements to set an appointment for today. The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming and make you feel good without having to go over the board. After Dr. Wong saw me, he explained what was the problem and what were my options. Once I made a decision, he started working on it right away and was out of there in less than 30 minutes. In addition to the incredible staff and Dr. Wong's amazing job, the location is great -only a couple of blocks away from the north exit of DuPont Circle metro station. :) read more

You won't find a better dentist than this guy. I have been to see him for two emergencies and he was able to see me right away on both occassions. He explained that it was because I really seemed to be in pain. I know that everyone in the medical field should have that motivation, but that has not always been my experience. Everyone in his office was competent, friendly, and extremely compassionate. I was honestly a bit skeptical about seeing him due to his lower than usual fee, but I have now had two procedures done by him and they have been perfect. I would especially recommend him for people that have a difficult time with the dentist, he really went out of his way, as did the guy at the front desk, to make sure that I was as comfortable as possible. I went to Dr. Wong for a second opinion on a painful tooth with a filling (done by another dentist in the DC area). Dr. Wong seemed competent and knowledgable. The equipment and overall atmosphere very outdated - almost identical to the equipment used when I was a child almost 20 years ago. He made very minor adjustments to my filling and sent me on my way. My visit to him did nothing to help the pain in my tooth, actually made it worse and I ended up having to go to a third dentist who finally looked at my tooth in depth and then referred me to an endodontist. Though I was mostly okay with Dr. Wong, there were glaring issues with the receptionist(s). They tried to bill me under a code that was uncovered by my insurance and (as I'm told) is rarely ever used. I was prepared to pay but was very surprised when she told me it would be $100 for the work to file down a filling. Due to her incompetence and unprofessionalism (she was very rude with me and adamant that I had to pay that amount because he fixed another dentist's work and it's not her problem that my insurance doesn't cover it) I ended up having to contact my insurance and find out the correct billing code because she was unable to do this herself. I called back and gave the code to another receptionist and requested that they call me back to confirm that everything worked out and to let me know what out of pocket costs I need to pay. Radio silence until today (more than a month later) when I got this letter in the mail. I had no intentions of going back to this office regardless due to the horrible nature of my interactions with the reception staff but was still willing to refer friends to Dr. Wong. However, after getting this letter I will certainly not recommend him to anyone and feel obligated to let any future potential patients know this is how the staff (and apparently the Dr.) handle one incident of incorrect billing and miscommunication. read more

Dr. Wong has been my dentist for roughly 12 years. I've been very pleased with his work, and that of his team. As far as I can tell, he has never recommended unnecessary work. Indeed, I rarely need to see him, apart from my six-month cleanings/checkups. On those rare occasions when I've needed further dental work, I've been pleased with the process and outcome. read more

As someone with a very complex and long dental history, I can attest that Dr. Wong is a fantastic dentist. Though I know it's tough to obtain an appointment with him, there's a good reason for it. HE'S AWESOME. His humble bedside manner is the best of any dentist, oral surgeon, endodontist, or orthodontist I've ever seen. So far, I've had 2 crowns done and one large filling. The temporary crowns he put on were better than some PERMANENT crowns done by previous dentists. As he was working, I got the sense that he refuses to accept anything less than the utmost attention to detail - something that means a lot with complex and costly dental procedures. He'll tell you plainly and simply what he thinks you need to have done and then explains what each one of your options costs. He won't push you to do something if he doesn't feel it's absolutely necessary. Bottom line: every bit of his work suggests that he's incredibly skilled and knowledgeable yet there's no pretense or arrogance to his work. I will not be switching dentists any time soon. read more

She taught me all about my teeth, was incredibly sensitive to when she might be hurting me, and made me feel as relaxed as one could feel at the dentist. Dr. Wong and his staff have been amazing. I've always been nervous about going to the dentist and had avoided going for a few years. I was convinced to give Dr. Wong a shot from a few different people and was not disappointed. The office staff is extremely friendly, professional, and helpful. The cleaning itself was fast, efficient and very effective. Dr. Wong identified a number of cavities that had to be filled which is what I expected. Unlike past experiences with other dentists, the cavity filling was relatively painless. Usually the injection of the numbing agent freaks me out, but Dr. Wong administered it with utmost care which took away almost all of the discomfort. Subsequent appoints have followed the same professionalism and care. I will surely continue to give this office my business. read more

Like someone else posted, I can only imagine that either all of these positive reviews are fake, or these people exist in a different universe than I do. Dr. Wong tried to sell me stuff that I didn't need, treated my teeth very roughly, and tried to charge me three times as much as he had previously told me -- and was mean to me when I resisted. I've visited about five general dentists in the DC area since I moved here 10 years ago. I found Dr Wong through a friend recommendation. He is by far the best dentist I've probably ever had and as someone with plenty of teeth issues it's a relief to have a dentist I trust and know I will go to for future teeth problems. Dr Wong is pleasant and quick, not a ton of small talk but I really appreciate that when I'm trying to squeeze in a visit during work. No teeth shaming or upselling of procedures here. He explains what's going on as he's doing his work, is honest and thorough AND quick, and he has helped to correct issues. Dr. Wong is very nice and seems knowledgable but I was very disappointed to be rescheduled and not be able to get in for another month. Rescheduled for an 8am appointment and was phoned the night before to push the appointment back to 8:15. No one was at the office until 8:25. I wasn't seen until 8:45. Very inconvenient and unprofessional- didn't leave a great first impression! My next appointment was cancelled twice because the hygienist was running late. My 6 month follow up I show up and both Dr. Wong and the hygienist are late. The receptionist says the hygienist is always late because she lives in Annapolis - not a valid excuse to me. Either figure it out or don't schedule early appointments! I've also only actually seen Dr. Wong for half of my appointments which is odd. They said D.C. law only requires the dentist's presence for your visit once a year but that's just not what I'm used to for dental care. read more

BEWARE!!! Dr. Randall Wong has left me with no natural bite and chronic pain pain for life. He was to put in 2 crowns and he adjusted my bite without discussing it with me first. At this point in time my teeth have erupted, shifted, and my jaw moved out of place. My current diagnosis is that I will never fully recover. I have been on Vicodin and Advil for 15 months. Dr. Wong has no understanding of dentistry, I now have a orthodontist, a prothodontist, a spine doctor, and a pain management doctor. I will be on pain medication and need a mouth guard for the rest of my life. BEWARE!!! Dr. Wong has no understanding of physiology or dentistry. read more

i went to dr. wong for years. then i got a groupon to get my teeth cleaned at some place in georgetown for cheap. as the dentist at the grouponed georgetown place was sort of making me think i had done something very wrong to deserve the pain i was enduring, i realized that i never experienced pain with dr. wong. perhaps discomfort from time to time. but he has the most gentle and precise touch imaginable. i am sorry that i took it for granted. my experience at the georgtown dentist made me appreciate how skilled dr. wong is and how lucky i am to have come across his office. i will never, ever go to another dentist again. i learned my lesson and i'm with dr. wong for good! dr. wong's staff is very kind. they have gone out of their way for me before to accommodate my schedule with a convenient appointment. honestly dr. wong is the best dentist i've ever had. read more
