So when…read moreI discovered Eyes On You Optometry that took my insurance and had great reviews I was hopeful. It was easy to make an appointment and to confirm my insurance info. I was able to do the new patient paperwork beforehand and the online system was clear and easy to use. The office was clean and upscale in appearance. Dr. Dagron was lovely. Efficient, kind and a great guide when deciding what to get. My old optometrist was always trying to upsell me on services but I felt like Dr. Dagron just wanted to get me what I needed (glasses and contacts) and best leverage my insurance rates. I highly recommend Eyes On You Optometry if you want a professional and empathetic optometrist and an exceptional experience from beginning to end!

We were able to find a nice pair here (costly but that was ok), and got an updated eye test/prescription. Unfortunately, after a couple of days they were causing headaches and eye pain. He decided to continue to wear them since they were knee and maybe needed to get used to it. Still nothing. Called the store, and got seen. The primary doctor there made some adjustments, and took them back. Same thing, they resulted in pain/headaches. The dr felt careless and not very understanding, let alone interested in getting this right. Not returning given the lack of care and professionalism around this. We thought we'd find our new neighborhood eye glass shop too, but that was a fail.

I loved that she accepted my VSP vision plan and my out-of-pocket costs for contact lens prescription was very reasonable. I also liked that she books Sat appointments. Her diagnostic remote control equipment is state-of-the-art and it made my exam very comfortable and quick. I have never seen as well with contact lenses as I have with her CL prescription and she was very accommodating with my preference for a prescription for inexpensive daily wear 30-day lenses vs more costly daily disposable ones. I really appreciated that. I also love the office's interior design with LEGO models that I'm sure her pediatric patients love and the nice design scientific optical medicine mathematical formula wallpaper. I didn't order eyeglasses from SSS so I am not sure how that service works, but she definitely had a great selection of frames. Overall, SSS has been my favorite optometrist in San Francisco and I will definitely return for an updated prescription. SSS definitely gets a well-deserved 5-stars from me!

Luckily, I found Optical Underground, and they made the whole process easy. They knew right away that there is more than one kind of office progressive lens, and when the wrong lenses were sent, they didn't just hand them over and send me on my way. Instead, they told me immediately and ordered the correct replacements. The quality was clearly much better than the cheap online glasses I had started with, and once I realized the original lenses weren't right for me, I found another pair of the same frames and they swapped in the correct lenses without any hassle. The staff was knowledgeable, quick, friendly, professional, and open late, with great prices and high-quality lenses. If you have smart glasses and aren't sure how to get lenses for them, I'd definitely recommend checking them out.

Apparently quite a few people have their optical eyeglass prescription loaded on their phone. Not so for me. Their frames are unique, fashionably pleasing but can be limited in quantity. So I bought an eyeglass frame that caught my attention and will plan to return to have it fitted with my prescription. Really happy to find a new source for fashion forward eyeglass frames!

The doctor was professional, knowledgeable, and made a great impression. However, the optometry office itself seemed somewhat disorganized and cluttered. Most of the staff were friendly, helpful, and patient, but one staff member was noticeably unfriendly and very strict about requiring people to join the waitlist before being helped. He is a white, red haired with glasses, plaid shirt. Very rude to me. What was particularly frustrating is that the waitlist process relies on a QR code with instructions in English. I often see older customers who may not be comfortable using smartphones, and others whose first language is not English. After many years of coming to this location, this was the first time anyone had told me I needed to sign up on a waitlist. I made a mistake. Sue me. Overall, the quality of care from the doctor was excellent, but the office could improve its organization and make the check-in and waitlist process more accessible and customer-friendly.

She spent nearly an hour trying, and when she needed to come back the next day to try again, they were just as supportive. Lens prices were better than 1-800-Contacts, which was a nice bonus. As for the glasses, my daughter wasn't thrilled about the selection, but what 14-year-old is ever excited about wearing glasses?

I can't remember who helped me years back, but they educated me about transitions lens options; perfect for walking my dogs 4times a day in SF where the clouds and sun take turns in the sky 42 times per walk and I never felt like I was wearing the right pair. I bought a pair of $800 dollar OPT glasses that I can't wear. I went to the store 10-15 times in an attempt to get glasses that I could wear. First the order was lost, I tried to cancel the order but was pressured into keeping the order. Then the wrong lens were put in, and the frame was way to big for my head (frame too heavy for tiny wire arms), etc. The list is long. Countless adjustments and hours spent at the store. None of the glasses really fit my small head and so I settled on a pair of glasses that were medicore in style and comfort. They talked me into adding nose pads so that the glasses would fit my face. Buyer beware, glasses are non refundable. Once the staff add nose pads or make changes to the glasses so that you can actually wear them, they are non refundable. The first staff person I dealt with Allen was horrific. Pushed the most epensive glasses that did not fit me nor were they ever going to fit me. He tried to curl the wires around my ears which was so uncomfortable I couldn't wear the glasses. Talked about the limited ediciton and how the glasses were from France. Oh, and I could resell them. He also pretended to not recognzie me when I came back several times for adjustments and finally a new pair of glasses. One of the staff told me that no one could wear the glasses Allen sold me becasue the frames were too heavy. I have had amazing cutomer service at Target's Optical store. The glasses aren't fancy but the frames are comfortable, returnable and I can buy insurance which protects them when or if they break or become damaged. More expensive doesn't equal better customer service here.

I once made a mistake... and went somewhere else. It will NEVER happen again. This place is the best. I just went back last week for my yearly exam and they proved themselves once again. It seems that my school district (I am a teacher) decided to change my insurance again. The staff at Dr.Stamper's made the necessary phone calls to determine the details and got my coverage when I had been unable to do so! To be honest I thought that I did not have eye coverage anymore- They could have just blown me off and taken my money, but no they went the extra mile to track down the insurance benefits. I decided to do the Optomap after the ladies at the front desk explained that I would not have to be dilated if I did. My Grandma has had cataracts so I know that I have to keep up on the health of my eyes- but who likes to be dilated? Not me!- Loved the Optomap- I highly recommend it. Dr.Stamper is the only optometrist that I will trust with my vision. He gives me the time and attention that I deserve- He is also a really nice person and always explains what he is doing throughout my exam and gives me all of my options when it comes to my contacts. The staff was extremely helpful when choosing glasses. Deciding on the right frame is very important- I am over looking like a sexy librarian- The staff was patient and honest when asisting me. They have the best selection of frames of anywhere that I have ever been. How do people decide when a place only has a few hundred to try on? I like to "see" all of my options. I am not easy to please, but they have done just that! They put up with me- which says a lot. read more

Best eye care I've ever had, and I've had glasses for more than 50 years. I started by searching for optometrists near my zip code. Then I called and asked the same basic questions. Then I walked into all three stores. Stamper was my choice. The final positive before the exam was that they called the day before to confirm the appointment. That's what real professionals do. They had the full range of modern instruments for peripheral vision, eye pressure, retina pictures, and auto-refractor. Some exams add to the price of the basic eye refraction, but I think they are good investment. I was happy I could avoid dilation by having the pictures. David Stamper did my final exams. He gave me a very good discussion of what the retinal pictures say. I found him to be up to date in terms of understanding that nutrition, eye exercises, and mind-body connection all influence vision. He was sensitive to my concerns about avoiding over-correction, and very careful in going through the A-B testing for correction and astigmatism. He commented about how good the retina pictures were, and I told him it was because his people were good, and they are. Esmeralda, who helped with my glasses, took all the time needed to help me find a good frame. Some people might be concerned because of their location on Mission Street, but they shouldn't be. I have been at patient of Dr.Stamper for over 15 years. Both Dr.Bruce and Dr.david are superb, caring doctors, that have successfully for both me and my sister with contacts ( no easy feat). The doctors not only are spot on with their prescriptions- but are really kind and personable. They have cared for me through several eye emergencies, sever allergic relations, and my tough, ever changing prescription. I have never been treated with anything but respect and kindness ( even though I know I'm not easy) The ladies that work here are also wonderful. They have helped me navigate my ever changing, confusing insurance, matched prices on contact lenses and always remember me. This office has an amazing selection of frames! Every time I go in they have the most updated styles from all the designers I love. My current look is from Tom Ford ( love Tommy!) A couple of quick tips- Skip street parking and go to the bartlett garage down the block. Get the picture of the back of your eye- it's so much better than the eye drops. Look for frames here first- they have more than any other shop I've been to, and the ladies are helpful and honest about what looks best. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Bruce Stamper for at least 20 years and consider him a very fine optometrist. During that time his office has met all my needs for contact lens and glasses. Dr. Stamper has been proactive with my eye care and in the past has made referrals to other specialists when noticing a nevis on the retina and two small spots in the iris. My last visit was 12/16/06 and if was a good one. The office remodel has really improved the attmosphere, which now seems more open and pleasant. During my exam and visit I was helped by several different staff members, all of whom seemed professional and efficient. I was especially pleased with the young lady that helped me select frames and the type of lens I wanted. She itemized my choices so that I would understood exactly what the cost would be for each lens feature above and beyond my insurance coverage. Very helpful as I'm soon to retire. I was pleased to learn that there is now an alternative to the eye dialation but didn't take advantage of it because of the extra cost. However that is a procedure I don't like and I might give it a try the next time. read more

Dr.Stamper's office in San Francisco has provided my family and I with eye care for at least a decade and I must say if Lindsey, one of the assistants within this establishment, wasn't apart, I would have moved on years ago. Lindsey's knowledge base and advise has been second to none. She is hospitable, kind, genuine and has created a trusting relationship with my kids and I. I appreciate her honesty and service, she takes her time with us and makes our every experience pleasant. Dr. Stamper's office would not be the same without her. Don't get me wrong, it takes a team to create am incredible business establishment but without her, I don't know. I have been going to this office for about 4 years now and I only have good experiences. I don't wear glasses but its always good to check your eyes, i was a little scared to find out i was a suspect to glaucoma (what the heck is glaucoma?). But the doctors told me not to worry and make sure I monitor it to see if there are any changes to my eyes. They quickly educated me about it, to ease my worries. The office staff is very friendly and professional from beginning to end. Two things, they have cute sunglasses and if you need a little boost for your eyelashes they also carry Latisse, which was great because I don't have to be spending on fake eyelashes every time i go out. And they have same day appointment and walk -ins so if you have free time get it done. For Halloween I got great contacts to wear with my costume! read more

Next time you go here. I would check another place first. I had to have my lenses re-done at another Dr's office. After, spending a good amount of savings on a new pair of glasses. They had to be redone. I went to two other Dr's offices on Mission to have them check my prescription and it turned out that Stampers office did the lenses incorrectly. I was also given a presription that was different from my previous one. What happened is that I thought I had astigmatism. It turned out I did not after visiting another Dr's office. So, I wonder if they just give out certain prescriptions just to sell their glasses. At any case, I was completely dissatisfied with whole experience at Stampers and will go elsewhere for my next pair of glasses. read more

I am a long time patient of Dr. Stamper first with Dr. Bruce Stamper and now with Dr. David Stamper. I have been a patient for over 20 years. I have had great customer service and have been treated in a consistently professional and friendly manner. The staff knows me and has always been able to accommodate me and my changing schedule. First class place! I went for the huge selection of frames- but will go back for the expertise of both Doctors and staff. Service was flawless, even when busy. I have now seen both Dr.Stamper and Dr.Tran and found both to be highly skilled optometrists, as well as very caring, nice people. Best selection of frames that i have ever seen in one location. Many more frames than all chain stores-all the "name" brands if that is what you are into. Prices were very reasonable-frames, lenses and contacts are not cheap- but Dr.Stamper's prices were much lower than the same frames I saw on Chestnut st.. They even got my friend a "budget" pair that were really inexpensive and still totally stylish. read more

I recently had my new prescription filled by Stamper Family Optometry on Mission Street. During my visit I was impressed with the selection of frames, and the expert know how from Kena Johnson. After looking at several frames, we both agreed on my choice for new frames. When I returned to pick up my new glasses, Jose Minor took the time to make sure the frames fit just right, and my vision was according to the new prescription. I call the office to see if they carried a specific model of frame that i was looking for. The girl on the phone told me she would look in the office and if not she could order them. I have been going to Dr.Stamper for over 35 years! Not only do they have a fabulous selection of frames- (I go crazy!) but Dr. Bruce has diagnosed, treated and solved all of my problems. I have had a detacted retina- very scary- and if he had not diagnosed it as early as he had, I might have lost vision in that eye! I have had lasik eye surgery done twice and now can see perfectly- for the first time in my life! All of the exclusive products without the hi-end sales attitude. I don't know how many doctors there are but the one I saw is Dr. Tran. She was very nice and extremely helpful. She got me fitted into my contact lens prescription much more skillfully than my previous optometrist had. I found the facilities to be nice and also the prices to be very fair. Quick and friendly check in with the receptionist. The optometrist is super funny and great at his job. I always feel more healthy after I leave. There are not too many luxury frames available to purchase at the store but it's more important to get the correct prescription first. Make an appointment early and get your eyes check!

This first set was ok, but distance was a problem, so I wanted to try another option, to see if it provided better overall vision, but did want a quick chat with the Dr. Was told I'd get a call back, as the Dr. not available, but will order the next lenses. A week later they still haven't been ordered, and I made a 2nd request to speak to the Dr. In the mean time, my Mom passed and I needed to travel back east for the funeral. I made another call, explained my Mom's funeral, and asked if I could get one additional sample set of the current lenses, since they are better than nothing, just to cover till I'm back. Keep in mind the first set were off-the-shelf diagnostic lenses, probably didn't cost them anything. They said 'no, you'll need to purchase boxes of them if you want to have a set to travel with'... I then made a 3rd request to talk to the Dr., mind you each of these times I was assured she'd call me back. It was week 3 before I got a call back from the doctor, and it happened to be the day of Mom's funeral. I said I couldn't talk because it was the day of the funeral and I was with family. I paused a beat, expecting something to the effect of 'sorry for your loss', the minimum you'd expect from any person that has an ounce of empathy for a fellow human being experiencing the trauma of losing their parent.. Her lack of any response in that pause made it clear she couldn't care less, and she wanted me to know it. So I continued, telling her I'd call again when I'm back home, but did want her to know I'd requested a call back 3 times, with her staff saying each time I'd be getting a call back, thinking maybe it was a staff issue. Her only retort was that I could be scheduling office visits to ask questions, and not rely on her returning calls. As I said before, sometimes I make bad choices, and this appears to be one of them. Before getting the call from the Dr, I was hoping the issues were just with the office staff, but once I did speak to the Dr, I realized the complete lack of care comes from the top down.

This most recent appointment was scheduled literally face to face with a receptionist after they failed to correctly book my first appointment. The front desk staff is totally inept. No critique of the optometrists themselves. On the plus side, they were able to squeeze me in after a wait since I wasn't going to try here again. If you have a job or responsibilities that include a schedule, this isn't a place you should go.

I live in Richmond now and will still drive to San Francisco to come here. I really was impressed that Dr. Carcamo offered natural treatment options for my dry eye issues, like using a hot compress rather than selling me on some fancy eye drops. He's friendly, professional and very knowledgeable, explaining as much in lay terms as he can. I am near sighted but need glasses or contacts to see far, but couldn't read anything if I were wearing my contact lenses. He suggested for me to try just wearing only one of them now in my dominant eye (and he figured out which one that was), so I can see up close to read in one and see far in the other. It works great for me! He explained that not everyone can--some people will get migraines but you have to try to know. And Yvette has an incredible eye for helping pick flattering frames. She's very honest and direct with her opinions. She won't promote a frame just because it's more expensive. She picks the ones that she thinks are most flattering. I highly recommend supporting this family owned business.

After the exam, they gave me a box with only a few frames to choose from and some were kids' frames. If I didn't want to choose from those frames, I had to pay out of pocket for the frame and lenses. So if you have HPSM and want your exam, glasses, and frames covered, I would recommend looking somewhere else.
