When moving to the city, I did a lot of research to find a good optometrist. I go out of my way just to go to Eyes on Twenty-Fourth. From start to finish it is a very pleasant experience. Quick and friendly check in with the receptionist. The optometrist is super funny and great at his job. I always feel more healthy after I leave. There are not too many luxury frames available to purchase at the store but it's more important to get the correct prescription first. Make an appointment early and get your eyes check! read more

I started seeing Dr Bautista three years ago. I felt I wasn't seeing as well as I used to, and couldn't seem to find the right contact lenses--things were always blurry. My previous eye doctor explained that it was probably age-related and not much could be done. I wanted a second opinion and am so glad I got one, because Dr Bautista said my prescription was completely incorrect! He also said I had no signs of the age-related problems my previous doctor thought I had. Thanks to Dr Bautista, I have been seeing crystal clear for the last three years. His front office staff are also top-notch; always friendly and professional. Glasses and contacts arrive quickly. This store has a great team of professionals handling your optometry affairs. The eye exam is comprehensive, unlike the mall or chain optometrists. Then the doctor will present you with a detailed explanation of your eye exam's results. Then the crew who help you pick glasses are fantastic. Eyes on 24th is and has always been first class. During COVID they've been particularly awesome with regard to health and safety precautions. Buzz you in one at a time, instant temperature check... it's all very chill. Everyone who works there is pretty great too. Today, the guy at the front desk fixed my frames. I cannot not recommend Eyes on Twenty-Fourth enough. I've been a patient here for the past few years, and I really feel cared for by the entire team. They really go above and beyond for their clients. I had an urgent eye issue recently, and both Daniel and Dr. Bautista found a way to squeeze me in. I had a very thorough eye exam here with a very charming Dr. Bautista, who looks like a real-life Clark Kent. Dr. Bautista was knowledgeable and explained everything to me as he was doing it, so I understood exactly what he was doing and why he was doing it at any given time. I was so impressed with my eye exam and how quickly I got my contact lenses that I referred my husband here as well. He also really liked Dr. Bautista and loved the selection of frames there so much that he bought a pair of glasses from there. Overall, it was a superb experience: easy to make an appointment, quick service, and friendly staff and optometrist. I've seen Dr. Bautista a couple of times now - he's very good. I also just had them make my most recent set of progressive lenses. These are a little complicated because they're both progressive (reading & distance) as well as transitions (go dark outside). I've had 5-7 sets of lenses made over the last decade (since I started wearing glasses), and these are the best I've ever had. Additionally, they just told me that my lenses have a warranty so that if/when they get scratched I can get new lenses twice at no additional cost. Mind blown. There are a couple of reviews that mention difficulties getting into the office during covid, and I agree with that to a point. But let's face it - doing business during covid hasn't been easy on any of us :-( read more

I have been going to Eyes on 24th for over 10 years and I think the optometrists are very good. However things are not working smoothly at this time. When I called for my annual check up, I was scheduled for 5 weeks in the future. After my appointment, I tried to select new frames but after about 20 minutes was told they were closing for lunch & I must schedule another appointment to look for frames. Two days ago I was in the neighborhood and although the sign on the door indicated they were open, and no patients were in the frame area, neither of the support staff came to the door. I've called them during business hours and no one has responded. I am fully vaccinated and always wear a mask in public places. Once I've seen an optometrist it is extremely difficult to have my insurance pay for frames and lenses at another location. read more

8 days ago I made an appointment for today at 3.30pm via the website. I received an email confirmation for my appointment. When I arrived the person checking me in could not find the appointment in their system, so I waited several minutes for someone else to finish with a customer so he could confirm the same. While they were somewhat apologetic, I am disappointed by a medical provider who will request personal information (including the last 4 digits of my social security number and vision insurance details) on their website to make an appointment and then not have a record of that appointment. The person helping me implied this sometimes happens due to the nature of their appointment booking system. I can imagine they provide great exams and eyeglasses based on their other Yelp reviews, but be very weary of making online appointments (that are confirmed via email) as you might not actually have an appointment. Perhaps they should only accept appointments via phone or in person until they resolve the issue. read more

The staff at Eyes on Twenty Fourth are awesome! I haven't been to an optometrist for several years and I was so impressed by the entire office staff. The space is beautiful and sunny. They limit the number of clients in at a time to ensure safety and everything is spotless. This would all be meaningless without the wonderful care of the optometrists. It's been more than two months since my visit to this place and I still am not able to get my insurance bill figured out. I paid upfront because they are unable to contact my insurance at the time but I was told I'll get my money back soon because I was covered by my insurance. Eyes in 24 has lost my trust. The vision exam seemed fine. The way the doctor explained things to me seemed fine. His demonstration of my vision with and without corrective lenses was convincing. When I asked him if I could use simple reading glasses or if a proper prescription would be better, he explained a proper prescription, since my eyes have slightly different vision. Then they quickly ushered me to try on frames in their showroom. I wasn't feeling decisive so I left without placing an order. Well, when I asked for my prescription, which they promptly emailed to me, 2 things stood out. The usage was listed as distance instead of reading. The prescription was 0.75+ for both eyes. So, yeah, simple reading glasses would do the job. The intersection of health care and business is an uncomfortable place. This is a reminder to ask for the information I need to make an informed decision and not to take the word of someone who has an incentive to convince me to make a purchase. read more

I made an appointment by phone for a date five weeks in advance; several days later I received an email reminding me to make an appointment, so I called and discovered that they had not bothered to record my appointment and wanted me to wait another five weeks for a rescheduled appointment. Before you get blown away by all these 5 star reviews, read the post got buried all the day down dated back 2010 to get some balanced perspectives. I didn't have a confrontation as bad as that poster, but the experience I had was eerily similar (I wish I had read that posting before I went in). Like the other poster, I have come to the conclusion that the optometrist (s) did a competent job - was professional, courteous, and pleasant and I would have happily gone back (and taking my family). However, I will not because I fundamentally disagree with how they (or their front line representative) conduct their business. Their front level customer service is ethically questionable, and I made that comment not because I was hard sold for some expensive glasses when my pupils were dilated and couldn't see anything. Neither was it because after indicating that I would not buy that $500 sunglasses, I was left with a cold shoulder and was made waiting for at least 20 minutes to get another response. It happened when I decided to buy a dozen contact lenses. When I was about to sign the creditcard (again it all happened when I couldn't see so I had to ask for an explanation), I noticed that my insurance coverage was not applied. Although it was a simple question I was not given a straight explanation, apparently because someone was using the "I am busy answering phone calls" technique to avoid answering that simple question. After waiting for 15 minutes, I finally decided to give up and asked to cancel the order (at that point I was there for over 1 hour - over 30 minutes after my eye exam). I followed up with the optometrist the next day, and luckily I did, because the transaction went through despite my indication of cancellation on the spot. I was told that it was a misunderstanding because the staff had thought that I would want to save the "credits" to apply for sunglasses purchase later (an idea I was never presented with, let alone, was agreed to). As far as I was concerned, there is no grey area - (1) if a customer makes a verbal request of using insurance coverage on the purchase, then legally she needs to oblige. She overstepped her boundary to make a decision for me without my consent (I would have missed my insurance coverage totally had I not knowned it was 'saved' up!). (2) After I found out such "plan" and asked that she used my insurance coverage on that purchase, she ignored my request by talking on the phone for another long period (3) When I demanded cancellation, she did not do so. Thank goodness at the end of the day the transaction was canceled and was refunded after my follow up with the optometrist. The follow up was prompt and courteous which I did appreciate. However I will not go back again. If I can't trust them with my wallet, I can't trust them with my eyes. I have no interest in trashing anyone or any business, but I think readers should be well-informed and need to be presented with a more balanced reviews than those raving ones here. read more

I've worn glasses since kindergarten; I've always had a prescription and an astigmatism in each eye. So, I've seen an optometrist regularly throughout my life. The eye doctor I used to see in Union Square was the same one my Mom had seen since she was 19! Very sadly, he passed away about 5 years ago. But what I'm saying is, my standards are a bit hard to meet, because I want a doctor who's very comfortable and familiar with me even though we haven't met. Also, I got Lasik Surgery in 2004. So, as of December 2009, I hadn't seen an optometrist for 5 years! On high recommendations, I went to see Dr. Stout. She was fantastic! The most gentle and thorough eye examination. Also, very kind and caring manner. Not a clinical doctor at all. She informed me of a retinal condition I have without scaring me. It's pretty common for near-sighted eyes, but I felt better knowing about it, and the chances of it getting worse. Dr. Bautista is also very kind and professional. Both doctors are thorough, helpful and kind. I really like them both. Karen, who manages the office and shop, is pretty super at finding a pair of glasses for your face. She helped me find a pair of red glasses that I love! I highly recommend anyone to go to Eyes on 24th. The office is modern and comfortable, clean and still very much a part of the neighborhood. If your eyes are dilated and you can't drive for a while, I also recommend visiting Wink SF across the street! Just mind the traffic as you cross. read more

Since we moved to SF a few months ago, we've been looking for a good optometrist and Dr. Stout & Dr. Bautista were recommended by several friends. Both of the doc's were friendly, very professional and knowledgeable. My gf saw Dr. Bautista and said it was the most thorough eye exam she's ever had. I saw Dr. Stout, she was very patient and answered all of my questions. They have a beautiful office with lots of designer frames to choose from and Karen, at the front desk, in addition to being extremely nice, was very helpful when selecting my frames. read more

Ok. These guys are W O N D E R F U L. Incredibly professional, friendly and thorough. And - this is important to me - they have a sense of humor! At my last appointment, Dr. Bautista and I were practically rolling on the floor laughing. I kept asking completely random-ass questions, and he, for some reason, found it hilarious. So we just kept cracking up. That said - it was the most comprehensive and communicative eye exam I've ever had. And as a patient that makes me feel really safe. They have a huge variety of frames in all price ranges and styles. And they're prompt. My order for contact lenses came into their office within 48 hr. Now, I've been seeing whatever optometrist was in this office since I was about 8 years old. Dr. Jones sold the practice to Dr. Chan, and Dr. Chan sold it to Dr. Bautista & Dr. Stout. I think Bautista & Stout are here to stay. They've beautifully remodeled the place, and you can tell that their hearts are in it. Karen who runs the front desk is completely sweet, and totally on top of it. I guess what I love most is that they're all REAL PEOPLE. No facade. No games. Had a pretty bad experience here. They broke an expensive frame that I gave them to replace the lenses and refused to compensate me for the broken frame or the money I had paid for the lenses! Only option was to buy another expensive frame from them in order to not lose the money on the lenses!!! Terrible customer service! Earlier the lens from a brand new pair that my fiancé had ordered from them popped out and broke when he wore it for the first time. He had to convince them to repair it free of charge! Regretting that I went to them and they are definitely not getting any more of our business. read more

What a lovely group of people in a lovely office. I had an exam here in December and Dr. Stout gave me a very thorough, comfortable and state-of-the art exam. I felt truly cared for. I ordered several boxes of lenses and they were available for me to pick up within a few days. I had trouble with the new brand of lenses I ordered and they could not have been more accommodating. I spoke directly with Dr. Stout on the phone and she was able to figure out which lenses I should have and had a sample of them, in my prescription, waiting for me that same evening. She was spot-on and the new pair were the best I've ever used. They ordered them for me right away. Karen at the front desk is such a delight. She makes the complicated business of ordering lenses, sorting out rebates and even picking out frames a breeze. She's awesome and I want to be her friend! read more

His technique of using two different prescription contact lenses worked to perfection for me -- at almost 60 years of age I can spend a long day infront of the screens and read my iPhone without specs or readers. I was in the market for a new optometrist, because I'd changed vision insurance providers and my old optometrist didn't participate in my new coverage. And I need new glasses which will cost a pretty penny even with the insurance, and a small fortune without. So I decided to give Eyes on Twenty-Fourth a try, based on their great Yelp reviews (and on the fact that they accept my new insurance.) Karen, the optician/front desk person, was very friendly and helpful when I called to make an appointment, and managed to fit me in the very next day. Arriving for my appointment, I was met by Dr. Bautista, who gave me one of the best vision exams of my life (and having worn glasses from age 5, I've got a lot of exams to compare to.) I have several different eye problems, of which I was already aware, and Dr. Bautista was able to put them all in context and make it clear which issues were causing which symptoms, which I really appreciated. He took pictures of my eyes, to serve as a baseline against future changes, and he took the time to show them to me so that for the first time I was able to see some of the things that are going on with my eyes. A primary motivation for my visit was my need for new glasses, and Karen was extremely helpful and patient in helping me find just the right frames to make me look my best. I don't have the new glasses yet - they'll take a week or so to come in - but I'm excited and confident that they'll not only look great, but I'll be seeing 20:20 again soon. I thought I'd made an appointment at another Optometrist on 24th St. but I'm so happy I ended up at Eyes on 24th! Dr. Bautista rocked! My eyes didn't change much, but he gave me some valuable information on what might happen in the next few years and gave me some choices. No one has ever done that before. Karen was super friendly and gave me just the right amount of attention before my exam. I went in knowing I was going to buy a new pair of glasses and I was going to spend some serious cash on new frames. My parents didn't give me much to work with in the looks department, so my glasses need to make up the difference. Karen was right there picking out frames for me that suited not only face, but my overall look including my orientation. She knows the client! From the moment I called to make my appointment to when I picked up my glasses, everyone was extremely nice, helpful and informative. Superm- I mean, Dr. Bautista was great at explaining everything he was doing throughout the exam. Zoe was wonderful! I'm used to wandering around trying on frames alone until I find a pair I think works, and someone just writes down the information. Zoe helped me pick out the perfect frames, giving me guidance on which worked and which didn't. She was so incredibly helpful and honest while still being nice. (Seriously, I wanted to ask her to be my friend but I thought that might come across as weird/creepy and I'd really like to be able to go back in there.) Is it weird that I had fun getting a full eye exam - dilation and all? I haven't had insurance since college and have never had an eye exam until last week. Full disclosure: I've never had anything noticeably wrong with my vision and only chose this place because it was the closest to my house, but I couldn't be happier with my experience. Karen (reception/eyewear fashion specialist) is a total sweetheart - the exact kind of person you want to have as the face of your business. I think I actually kept Dr. Stout-Bautista waiting because I was having so much fun with Karen. Dr. Stout-Bautista took into account that I had never had a full exam before and was extremely kind and gentle. I was their last appointment of the day so they could have rushed me out, but instead were completely thorough and took time to answer every question. Karen let me try on 50 pairs of frames, assessing every shape and color (I've never worn glasses before and have a - ahem - prominent nose) to make sure I looked super cute. I came in laughing and left smiling. I can't wait to get my new glasses, and am glad these ladies are just down the street so I can pop in to say hi more than once a year. FYI, they're open til 7 two days a week and on Saturdays, so it's super nice to not have to take time out of the work day. And the office is located among the shops and restaurants of Noe Valley - so that's either awesome or dangerous or both. Have fun! read more

Dr. Victor Bautista is an outstanding eye professional. I have never had a great optometrist here or any where else I have lived. In fact in San Francisco every single optometrist that I have visited before I have always felt rushed and often less than satisfactory prescriptions. A contract lens fitting at one optometrist was so unprofessional that I wish I had been able to Yelp that experience (it was BY before Yelp). Subsequent optometrist I never felt gave the best service. I will continue to visit Dr. Victor Bautista for subsequent eye appointments. He is thorough, gentle and caring. Now if I could only find a dentist and general practice physician with Dr. Bautista high level of concern, expertise and professionalism--I would be delighted. A six star experience. read more
