I have a pretty low bar for general tsos chicken nowadays. Many restaurants have hardly any chciken inside as many of the pieces are just the batter. I've had experiences where the majority of the chicken ...had no chicken. Randy's is not like that. Randy's has been around for years. They have good lunch specials and combination plate deals. I've ordered from them before but lately, something has been a bit off with the food. It doesn't taste the same. Today I ordered on seamless for lunch and got the shrimp in garlic sauce combination plate. At first I wanted the lunch special which I notice gave the option of pork fried rice or white rice but I switched to the combo plate so that it can be enough for the $12 order minimum. Now that I think about it, it didn't give me an option of rice so they sent pork fried rice. I do not eat pork so it was major turn off. Also, the shrimp in garlic sauce wasn't appetizing. Hands down the best Chinese food I've had while living in the city! It reminds me of back home in Westchester (they serve real fried rice not yellow rice ) Food is always fresh and delivery is quick. Confession: I secretly wish I was more successful so I could afford regular fat tips for the delivery guy... He is so incredibly nice and not like delivery guy nice where him not being rude counts as nice. He is actually a really nice person. The food is really good too. Best Chinese food around and really good food in general. My favorites here are the Mongolian beef, general tso's chicken, teriyaki chicken sticks and wings. I never have to face the issue of 3 pieces of shrimp in a whole box of rice. The first two times I got wings and vegetable fried rice and it was a solid meal (nothing less than what you'd expect from a chinese restaurant). The wings have a nice crunch and the rice is good. I was eager to start getting chinese food once all the restaurants reopened because of covid. I also wanted to support asian businesses because they've been struggling because of the recent increase of anti-asian discrimination. However, this really turned me off from Randy's. Finding a piece of metal in my rice was not something that I anticipated! The piece of metal resembles a pipe cleaner (if the pipe cleaner didn't have the fabric exterior). If I didn't see the metal and would have eaten it, it was sharp enough and could've easily cut the insides of my stomach and throat. I don't think I will ever order from Randy's again. For the love of God do not eat here. Ever. I was jonesing for some Chinese takeout the other night. When I get in the mood for this kind of food I am fully aware that what I am going to be eating is not likely to be in the realm of fine cuisine. But every once in a while I crave things like hot and sour soup, fried dumplings, chicken with brocolli etc. I had a quick look on yelp and saw that this was the highest rated takeout spot in the neighborhood so walked over to it and ordered a few things. They were very busy with tons of takeout orders but eventually I got the food and returned home. The steamed vegetable dumplings were borderline unedible. An over thick undercooked coating giving way to a small amount of oversalted and totally unidentifiable mush in the center. I was starving so ate a few of them before moving on to the chicken dish I had ordered. I should have stayed with the dumplings, the chicken had a bizarre flavor (possibly liquid smoke?) that I've never come across in Chinese food before. The meat itself was beyond suspicious, the vegetables were mush, all in all I am ashamed of the fact that I ate about one third of it before giving up (and I was ravenously hungry). General Tsos is crispy and doesn't have too much sauce, the pork lo mein was right on point. The egg roll was lacking in flavor just like the film we watched it with on Netflix called 'Man up' a romantic comedy staring The fart of an actor calling himself Simon Pegg and a withered old hag of a actress with a giant smile called Lake Bell. This film was a dry stale piece of bread floating in a pool of fermented dung. The romance If you could call it that was forced out the tube like toothpaste stuck in the end of the tube. Not clever not funny. The whole film seemed like it just wanted to end with people dancing in the background to uplifting music playing while the main characters run of into the distance to presumably have intimate relations with each other.
