This was first time at this restaurant and our first time in an East Indian restaurant. The restaurant was great with just a couple of exceptions that caused me to give a poor rating. 1. We arrived at 7:15pm and received meal at 8:30pm and only after a couple of discussions with the staff and an unpleasant look on my face. 2. After waiting so long (for a simple combo plate) I could only assume that the food would be freshly created over that time. Unfortunately the Lamb entrees were cold. I came by with some friends after all the places we wanted to try were closed. They were friendly enough in seating us and really nice. We ordered a bunch of food and nothing was particularly good. I think the kebabs had nice flavour but were really overcooked. Everything else was forgettable. I even thought at one point the butter chicken was made with ketchup. I would not recommend eating at this restaurant.(Go to McDonald it will taste way better and cost way less.) Why was this restaurant awful? Rangoli's has always been one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Ottawa. I have been numerous times with my friends and I'm never left disappointed. Their lunch specials are the best deals that I have seen as well. Each main dish comes with a huge piece of naan bread that is soft on the inside but crispy on the outside, raita and a side curry (this curry is homemade and it changes every time I go!). I usually order an appetizers or two depending on who I am with. I really enjoy their meat samosas and their paneer pakoras. The meat samosas are is a pastry puff stuffed with chicken. It usually comes in twos but they are quite big in size, so 2 is the perfect amount if you are sharing. The two sauces that are included is a plum sauce and a spicy green sauce. As for the paneer pakoras, they are indian cottage cheese fried with chick pea flour. These are super lightly battered and super crispy. My favourite two dishes are the butter chicken and the lamb korma. The butter chicken is not spicy and it is super creamy. The lamb korma is also very creamy and has a bit of a kick to it. The flavour of both curries is spectacular and I always end up reordering it the following time I am there. I highly recommend Rangoli's if you're looking for a good Indian restaurant! read more

I was out for dinner with friends, we decided to have Indian food, and then drove across town for this restaurant - one my dinner companions goes there occasionally and recommended it. The service was frosty. Once we'd made it clear to our server that we were dining in and needed a table she walked away abruptly, leaving us wondering whether we were following or to be seated at one of the tables we were standing near. Uncertain what to do, we decided to just choose a table. When it came time to order, we had a question about adding spinach to chana masala because the one vegetarian at the table wanted to have protein and vegetables in the same dish. The response was simple, "That will ruin the dish" and then a stare down occurred. After checking with the chef, the dish was ordered with spinach. The food was excellent. The flavours were distinct and rich, the portions were what I've come to expect from Indian restaurants (just the right size), and the chana masala with spinach rocked, but the price was a little steep. I'm not a big fan of Indian sweets but, if you are, they have an unbelievable selection. I'd go back for the food but I'll be hoping the service improves. read more

So we went to this restaurant on Saturday for my best friends birthday dinner. The food quality and taste was substandard, no flavor at all. Service at this restaurant is pathetic. bathrooms were filthy. Table cloth was dirty looks like did not even got changed since last customer left. So we changed the table ourselves and told the server about our concern and she did not even acknowledged it. My husband had to wait 15 mins to get another order of tandoori roti, for which we have to wave the waitress for. She did not even come to check on us, on how we are doing after bringing our food. We noticed the table next to us was also not satisfied with food taste and service and they left without finishing their meal. I will never go back to this place. I feel bad to bring my friend on her birthday to this place and ruined her dinner night. read more

Twenty to thirty people were waiting outside on Mother's Day evening. Uber Eats, Skip the Dishes and telephone orders all waiting to bring home dinner to Mom. We've been going to this restaurant for years and enjoyed every experience. Do to our restrictions we decided to order out. Well the Dal soup for starters was very disappointing. It was tasteless and very watery. In the doning room its never been served this way. Not sure whats going on, but we will not order out again. The Naun Garlic braed was as chewy as gum, another disappointment. All the takeiut was served in styrofoam containers and very unhealthy in my opinion. read more

If you love Naan bread this place has got to be serving the best in town! I have been here so far on 3 occasions. The food is just mouthwatering! Being a lover of Indian food, I have tried quite a few places and this place certainly does well in their offerings. Out of the 3 times I dined there, only one time the service was a little slower than usual. It was a rather full house, and I can understand how tending to all tables could get delayed. None the less, I would still go back! What is great is that they are now offering take-out delivery. I was surprised by the low ratings here. I tried this place yesterday, and was quite happy! We each ordered a combo plate which was reasonably priced at 16$ and came with small bowls of several items - a chickpea curry, raita, entree of your choice (I got the mushroom matar which was very good), a small heap of rice and a huge piece of naan. The veggie version includes two veggie pakora, and the non-veg includes two pieces of tandoori chicken. I found the rice to be a touch undercooked but everything else was excellent. At $16 I thought the value was good and there was enough left over to snack on the next morning. The service was ok - not warm, but acceptable. We were the only ones there by the end, around 940, and they were obviously anxious for us to finish up (they weren't shooing us out, but you could tell). But I forgive them that because I can understand that they wanted to leave and go home. The restaurant itself is beautiful with very nice decor and paintings on the wall. Mmmmm this place is great! The veggie samosas- SO good, not dry at ALL. I'm not a big spice fan but the green sauce it just the right amount. I was a butter chicken fan for a long time till I met Tikka Masala... So so flavourful. Service is great because it's personable.. Like you are at someone's home. I think I blacked out when my boyfriend introduced me to the Naan..it seemed to have disappeared after that. BF got lots of points for picking this place for date night. Will be back! read more

Had lunch at Rangoli today. Co Workers brought me back the Lunch Beef Vindaloo, for 10 bucks I got a great serving of the beef, rice, the curry of the day, yogurt sauce and an amazing piece of Naan bread. The loss of one star is really just to say I needed more Naan. Go try it! read more
