I visited Dr. Raphael Kellman MD's office for several appointments. While I found the medical care helpful, my experience with the administrative side of the practice has been very frustrating. For more than a year, I have tried to resolve a billing matter and to obtain what I understood to be a reimbursement. Despite repeated attempts to communicate with the office, the issue has not been resolved. I went to Dr. Kellman hoping to resolve my Hashimoto issue. On his site and in his book, he talks about healing the GUT, microbiome. I know my diagnosis and came prepared with blood tests and sonogram. He completely ignored them, and did his own tests, which showed exactly the same thing. Then prescribed all kind of drugs/supplements that I would have to buy monthly costing approximately $2,000 indefinitely ( including low dose narcotic, hormone, etc... with HORRIBLE SIDE effects ). I saw Dr. Kellman, early this year, for a chronic ailment.  I was unable to eat, various food groups, that was part of my regular diet, prior to 2020.  The restricted diet, led to  me being nutrient deficient, resulting in some other health issues. Each patient issues are unique, as one should factor in all their health conditions,before starting any treatment.  Dr Kellman, actively listened to my concerns, and asked pertinent questions, to diagnoze and treat. It helps that he has a affable personality and puts a patient at ease to talk. The positive Sibo test ,confirmed his diagnosis, that my microbiome, got compromised in 2020. To put in context ,I was prescribed a very high dose of Prilosec(80mg!) by a well known city gastroenterolgist for several months in 2020. Other doctors later felt the diagnoses and treatment was incorrect.  Dr. Kellman explanation was, that a thyroid patient (me) ,has anyway low stomach acid, and giving high dose of PPI is counterproductive. It compromised by microbiome, and I never really recovered,from the overdose of PPI. His treatment plan of several months (antibiotic,herbal microbials and few supplements ) has helped and I am able to eat more food now and my symptoms have eased. This place is a complete scam. They are only concerned about selling you their supplements. I paid $275 for for a consultation where the NP I was working with had to ask me how much I weighed at my last session in addition to not knowing the details of what SHE had recently prescribed me. Do you not have my medical records? Isn't it your job to know? She also told me I was low in folate. I asked her what that meant and she had to Google it. Are you kidding me? She recommended costly blood tests and I told her I wasn't interested. She recommended I come in twice a week ($250/session) to get an IV to increase certain vitamins. I'm not in the healthcare field but even I know that an IV is only necessary if you aren't able to keep fluids/food down (which was not the case for me). Frankly I'm surprised this place hasn't been shut down. DO NOT GO. read more

This review is based on the phone call with his receptionist. I called to possibly set up an appointment for my son. Right away, i was told the consultation is 30 to 45 min for $550. I then asked what if everything is not covered during that time. This seems like a short time for a through medical review. I was then told every follow up appointment would be $450. Maybe the receptionist was a poor communicator. Otherwise this seems like a scam. if your a doctor and you care about helping people this is not how you do business. Do not be fooled by Dr Kellman. He may be a great author, but he is not a great doctor or director of his center. There's a big difference! While I personally like him and find him compassionate, he was not an effective doctor for me. I had faith in him for 4 years and gave his clinic nearly 100K throughout that time. But, I was misdiagnosed for 4 years. When I went to him regularly. After I've sought other medical care, I am shocked at all the things his office didn't bring up for me to try or look into. Dr Kellman literally let my health slip through his fingers. If he investigated my case more when I still had more health, I wouldn't be chronically ill today. But, he watched on as a progressive illness he claims to treat on his website went undiagnosed, leaving me disabled for life. I was in the office all the time. I viewed the inner workings. He viewed his office as more or less of a social club. He gave free appts to celebrities/people he wanted to get close to, and others paid the full price. He was very arbitrary and impulsive. His waiting room is always packed as he REGULARLY double books patients. You can literally expect to wait for hours upon hours in the waiting room. It's so sad bc people coming there are desperate and they think bc he wrote these books, he can help them. It's just not the case. He is nice to all patients, but doesn't give enough attention to the cases. I am quite possibly one of the most tragic casualties of this. It is so sad knowing that I would not have this degenerative illness if I hadn't trusted him. He didn't just not help me, he harmed me. I'm giving 2 stars bc at the end of the day I refuse to believe that he is s snake oil salesman (as all my friends and family believe). I do think he has a good heart but went far off the path. At this location I had a consultation with Sandra McKenzie who is the direct doctor under Dr. Kellman. This experience was unlike any other doctor appointment I've ever been to. During my initial consultation she spent at least an hour with me of constant problem solving conversation. When I walked out of the appointment I had all the supplements and healthy medications in route to my house electronically for discount prices. This was the only doctor out of 10 different doctors over 6 years that was able to find my issue. I highly recommend with practice. The money is worth not having deal with insurance doctors who do not offer healthy alternative treatments. This practice also offers IVs and multiple different forms of new treatments. First let me say I'm a regular patient with no ties to Dr Kellman. These are the facts, ask your regular Doctor or Specialist to verify: 1) Doctors are not trained in Nutrition or Supplements 2) Doctors can only prescribe FDA approved drugs 3) Doctors are trained to fix you when you are broken, generally, they are not trained in preventative care, nor does the insurance industry help here. 4) Doctors are advised by the American "Associations" for Diabetes, Heart disease & so forth. These associations are notoriously slow to react to new research, the current ADA (Diabetes) numbers/levels for diagnosing Diabetes are cited as way too high by many doctors on youtube (eg Dr Ford Brewer). While this traditional conservative approach is understandable, and not all "new" treatments are valid, what we need is a regular Doctor who has significant experience in this field and has the judgment to determine, years ahead of the "Orthodoxy", what might work. Enter Dr. Kellman. I'm 58 and in relatively good health, but wish to remain that way for the next ** years ! Aging & the associated conditions are not all inevitable. Dr K is identifying markers that will only manifest as symptoms in 10 years, and doing something about it now. On reading some of the other comments I would say the practice & methods are a little different than a traditional medical practice but hey, thats the point, it is different. Stay away from him! Is he even a doctor?! He reminds me of a used car salesman! He doesn't even bother to look at the root cause of your health issues. He's only focus on selling you all his different "treatments." I spent $2700 in tests and consultations just for him to tell me that he didn't see anything wrong. I took all my test results to another functional doctor and she was able to pinpoint what was going on and setup a plan to work on my health issues. I would never recommend this doctor to anyone. You would think after ten months of treatment there would slight change but I haven't seen any in my labs. I was being treated for Lupus which is still not under control. Dr. K doesn't even bother to look at the report before I go for follow. I took many supplements and medications from the compound pharmacy where I bet he get's his commission from. I spend $4500 just on the immune modulator injections which did nothing for me. Even did UV light therapy for $1350. We are only experiments for this doc. My creatinine is elevated he told me he would monitor my kidney so now I have to go for a kidney biopsy. When I asked his secretary to give me an appointment just to view another doctors report she said no you have to pay first. They are only about making money off patients eventually patients leave but after spending a fortune. She told me if you have complains you have to mention it to the doctor but doctor is clueless as to what he's doing. I hope no one else get's scammed. I was HUGELY UNIMPRESSED with Dr Kellman and his services...in fact, it was more detrimental than anything else... and a waste of time and money. I was initially interested in going to a nutritionist to get into a vitamin regime - especially since I have a very demanding job and work long hours and I wanted to ensure that I was taking care of my health. I should have realized that something was really off before my initial appointment since Kellman's office phone rang incessantly without anyone ever answering it - over and over again....it was the first clue of incompetence. Since I was seeing Kellman during my lunch hour, the office manager assured me beforehand that I'd be in and out of their office within the hour. She also confirmed in advance that all Kellman's services were covered by my insurance. So, where do I begin? NOTHING that I was told prior was remotely true or accurate...it's basically to just reel you into the office. There were no other patients in the waiting room when I arrived, yet, I was made to wait for TWO HOURS - with no staff members assistance. The staff seemed confused and were either uninformed or ill equipped and were trying to mask the dysfunction of the office and whatever was going on behind the scenes. The vibe in the office was downright strange and off putting...which was consistent to the opinion that I had of Kellman. While waiting in the reception area, I had to fill out a lengthy five page, detailed questionnaire covering every aspect of my health - yet, when the nurse brought me into Kellman's office with my file, he pushed the file to the side and didn't even take a glance...he seemed very disengaged, detached, aloof, and barely even looked up...I thought he was really unimpressive. His nurse took my blood for full analysis, yet, before I exited their office, Kellman had already advised the receptionist to charge me for a host of different supplements - before the blood test had even been sent out. I then learned that nothing was covered by insurance and between the office visit, blood tests and supplements, I was already charged close to $1,500 - out of pocket expenses. No one explained what each supplement was even for and when I subsequently called the office (it took me several days to even get thru and have someone pick up the phone)...I asked to speak to Kellman because the supplements were complementary foreign to me...they had a mix of ingredients and names that I had never heard of ...and it was his own brand and I needed to get clarity before I felt comfortable taking them. After several attempts, the receptionist told me that Kellman doesn't take calls...he has no time....and when I asked the nurse for assistance, she checked my file and it was completely empty! Kellman didn't write any information down regarding what he had given me - he had no records of this or anything. That said it all. Because Kellman lacked the courtesy in even taking my call to explain anything about the supplements and their purpose, instead, I had to take more time out of my schedule and make an appt with my primary doctor - I brought a bag of about 6 different supplements that I received from Dr Kellman for my primary doctor's input. Wow - my primary doctor read the ingredients and told me NOT to take them...stating that some of the ingredients were very questionable and had the risk of possibly being cancer causing. He advised me to just throw them out. So, after wasting my time and money and getting nothing in return but aggravation in the experience of going to Dr Kellman, I would not be recommending him - I wouldn't trust him. My impression was he had already made his money with me and so he was on to the next "customer." Where was his integrity and his commitment as a doctor? What I find interesting and disheartening is Kellman's neglect - as a doctor - and his obvious disinterest to even take a call from me after my spending almost $1,500 on his services because he's "way too busy"....yet, he conveniently seems to find the time to respond to any of his negative reviews here on the Yelp site. His priorities are obviously self-serving and opportunist once again - he reminded me more of a salesman than anything else. read more

I visited Dr.Kellman several times over the past few months. I have Hashimoto's and MTHFR. I have an enlarged Goiter, I was also experiencing heart palpitations. they wanted to take a blood sample to test my levels, which I'm used to at this point, they sat me in a room with several other people in it. One patient was a out of control boy who was screaming and reaching his hands into biohazard boxes pulling out whatever he found, including a catheter. He was screaming at my nurse that he "was going to murder her" and she was screaming back "that she didn't need to take this kind of abuse". My anxieties rose and even though I'm a bit shy, I asked to be placed in a more private room. The nurse obliged, Unfortunately she started going off about how "she doesn't need to take this shi* from patients and if Kellman thinks she deserved to be treated this way that she would just quit on the spot and leave today" .. my anxieties rose more. When I met the Dr. he seemed very spaced out. He didn't ask me about my diet. I told him I had a goiter and that I had ultra sounds and biopsies taken in the past 6 months, he asked me if I was "sure" I had a goiter? So I lifted my head and showed him. It's very obvious. He prescribed me a slightly higher dosage of my current Levothyroxine plus about 6 different supplements I should start taking which included plastic biohazard baggies filled with vitamins he dumped from bottles taken out of his desk drawer. And then another set I would buy from the front desk during check out. Let the record state I have been supporting myself since I was 15 years old. My family has never paid a dime or anything I need. I took my supplements and paid over 500$. The girl at the front desk whispered that Kellman gave me a discount. But I had heard her say that to another woman checking out while I was waiting. It felt like a corner deli transaction where they just make up a number as soon as you're checking out. On my second visit with Kellman, He looked at my blood test and then began prescribing me supplements to start taking, as I was writing them down I realized half of the list was vitamins I was already taking. I then showed him my list of current supplements I was taking. I realized he was having a hard time when he asked me if I was taking "Curcumin" .. I said "yes, it's on the list in front of you" "right .... right" he said. He seemed to be in the clouds the same as my last visit. He then suggested that I get an IV to help speed up the healing process. Then he said "it costs $$$, maybe you don't need it, never mind it's ok" I said "I've been saving my money just for this particular reason. So I stayed and I did an IV .. which took 2 1/2 hours. Also a bubble entered my blood stream and my anxieties about needles rose to the point where I couldn't sit any longer. I cut the IV intake short and ended my appointment by paying another 400+$. On visit 3 my blood levels were still looking bad and upon talking to Kellman he upped my medication and prescribed me a new one. He also prescribed me several more supplements , while removing a few that I was taking out of the regimen. (To my dismay, they were expensive) He then asked me if I had ever had IV treatment ... "yes" I said "on my last visit with you, I sat for over 2 hours getting IV". He then explained about the supplement change and wrote down all the info then asked "have you ever gotten IV treatment ?" .. this blew me away. He didn't have my records or chart in front of him and he just flat out wasn't listening .. and it hit me.. he's never examined me.. listened to my heart palpitations, felt my goiter for lumps.. nothing ... this isn't right. This guy doesn't care. I decided after this visit to take my records and start going to an endrocrinologist covered under my insurance. But before that happened , I went to the pharmacy to fill my prescription and they said "Dr. Kellmans license has expired"after the experience I had with him my first thought was "wow, this guy really is a phony". The pharmacy resolved the issue over the next week and I made an appointment for a new Endo for end of December. Unfortunately my prescriptions just ran out. When calling Kellmans office and letting them know I needed refills to get me through until my visit with my new doctor, they said they were unable to give me THE MEDICINE I NEED unless I made an appointment to see Kellman. (Very angry at this point) I needed to speak to a manager. The woman on the phone, Mary, called me "snotty" and hung up on me. Having an incurable auto-immune disease isn't fun or easy. And the prescriptions I need are to keep my body running. The people in this office have no compassion EXCEPT Rachel, the nurse, she tall and kind and she deserves to work somewhere nice. But everyone else made me feel like I was being scammed and ignored. I hope this review helps anyone else out there looking for help. It was a nightmare for me read more

This guy is a fraud. I saw him in 2013, hoping he could help me with what had been years and years of strange medical symptoms. He didn't. He told me to stop eating eggs, that I needed IV's of magnesium, and that my estrogen was high. He couldn't tell me why. He kept running tests on my thyroid and heart and wanted to run more tests, so I left. Last year I found out I had endometriosis, which creates high levels of estrogen and low levels of magnesium in the body. Last month I was diagnosed with SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth), which is often found in patients with endometriosis on their digestive tract, like I had. I had all the SIBO symptoms when I saw Dr. Kellman, including an intolerance to egg, but he didn't catch it, despite publishing a book on the microbiome and how to fix your gut bacteria. I'll repeat that: He claims to be an expert in the microbiome, but he totally missed my chronic SIBO. I wish he had helped me, but my appointments with him were a waste of time and money. If you are actually sick and want to go better, learn from my expensive mistake and don't see Dr. Kellman. read more

I would give 5 stars for dr. Kellmans depth of knowledge, and willingness to get to the bottom of your health issues. I came to him feeling ill and desperate for answers when other doctors were simply giving me a pill and telling me I was fine. I now know the full story behind everything that was happening to my body, but it was expensive. That's why I knocked off two stars. If you're in a desperate place health-wise and need answers, you should definitely go to him. Though the branding and nice staff seem spot on, BEWARE!!! Because of seeing Dr. Kellman twice I have to pay over $10,000 in blood work bills. They also convince you to buy a ton of supplements before actually giving a diagnosis... more money... Very happy with the service and treatment I'm receiving at the Kellman center. I suffered from debilitating brain fog for several years and Dr Kellman and staff cleared it up in roughly 60 days through various IVs, supplements and thyroid meds. I can't speak to their physicians, but beware that Kellman runs over. As I'm writing, there's a 2 hour delay in his schedule, and rather than letting patients know that beforehand--or, as a considerate practice would, taking that into account and only scheduling an appropriate amount of patients per day with the knowledge that he runs over--instead, they think it's fine to have patients sit for 2 hours past their apt time. Dr Kellman helped my mother resolve a severe endocrine condition in a matter of weeks with infusions. She was falling and was getting very scary diagnoses. Dr Kellman immediately understood the magnitude of the problem and diagnosed her correctly. Her severe symptoms are healed. She continues to monitor her thyroid with Dr Kellman and we are looking forward to helping her achieve a total physical transformation in the coming months. I am writing to say that I am no longer a client of Dr. Kellman. First, I have never had an appt. that started on time nor where I wasn't waiting for at least 3 hours. The office staff are lovely but he is always running behind. What caused me to leave the practice is the insurance/billing. I paid, in full, what I owed at each visit. They in turn, bill my insurance, and received reimbursement. I have never seen a penny of the reimbursement. When you call the office to speak to billing, you are referred to an offsite location (which went from Robyn to Joanne) and there you get the run around. I was told that I did not, in fact, pay in full at each visit and that the reimbursements went to cover what was owed the practice. In over 15 visits to the office, NOT ONE REIMBURSEMENT from this office. Now that I am with a different Functional Medicine person I had her go through 3 years of labs, testing and office visits and was told a lot of expensive and unnecessary (meaning, they wouldn't tell me anything about my health) were performed. My suggestion, should you see this practice would be to 1)make an early appt., 2) call to see if he is running on time, and 3) ask what the TOTAL fee is for the services will be in advance and finally, 4) keep all of your paperwork and receipts --- you're going to need them! read more

Dr. Kellman is one of a kind. Kind is a good word to describe him. Although his wheels are always turning (for you), he's listening, taking it all in & calculating what your individual body requires. He shows compassion & reassures you that you WILL GET BETTER. I saw him first in February & after three months of the protocol he put me on, I got my life back. He will test you for many things (if he sees fit), explain everything to you & take his time with you. I waited 2 hours to see him on Tuesday but I reassure you it's because he takes his time with his patients. He'll dedicate himself to you. I truly believe this is his calling, you can tell it brings him joy to help others. He wants to see you get better & is realistic about everything. I live two hours away from his office & it's expensive to travel (& see him but worth every cent) but the travel is worth it. I urge you to make an appointment with Dr. Kellman, you will not be disappointed. He is understanding, determined, brilliant & a real person. I will preface this by saying in all my years of using Yelp, I have never felt compelled to spend the time to leave a review. My experience with Dr. Kellman, and his office staff merits the time spent so that other vulnerable, sick people, do not waste their time, money and energy on this PHONY. I had exhausted all other options for traditional medicine and decided to go the homeopathic route. I was recommended by a family member that heard positive things about Dr. Kellman. My first appointment was an hour and 45 minutes late... Literally almost 2 hours behind schedule sitting in that waiting room. I go into to see Kellman and it was like talking to an awful used car salesman. It was one big upsell. First, the "Doctor" told me that because I'm 26 and have been eating fish my whole life I DEFINITELY have mercury poisoning. "Shouldn't we wait for testing doc?" "No, you DEFINITELY have mercury poisoning." Next when I continued to tell him my symptoms it felt like he was trying to empathize like he was feeling bad for me trying to win me over by building rapport.. I need trust doc, not a shoulder to cry on. Whenever I asked a question Kellman led me in circles, it was like he was chasing his own tail. Just spewing nothing about nothing. He would have long lengthy responses when I asked him "why" he recommended a certain supplement for a certain symptom but they literally made no sense. My feeling is he typically isn't asked so many questions because people usually come to him as a last resort and are willing to just try anything. He ends the meeting with, "I like to get treatment started right away." I'm like what does that mean. He wanted to give me an IV drip (That costs a lot of money) without even having my test results in yet. How the hell do you know I'm supposed to have an IV drip without even seeing whats wrong with me!? Anyway I was so deep into this already and so desperate for answers that I moved forward with a few of the tests and the bill ended up being $1500, not including the list of supplements which was another $1000. They have a lady at a counter selling you supplements after the meeting. So I am going back and forth with her on the fact that I can't spend all this money. I asked which were the most important on the list, and she didn't really know. I tried this office because I have hashimotos and want help finding the root cause. The website states they do this, and I said that was my goal when i made an appointment. They put me with the PA there. I showed her my labs (10 days old) and we talked - mostly about nutrition, about which she is most comfortable. She wasn't able to answer questions about the disease process of the thyroid, but I wanted to give her a chance. Without writing a long story, I'll just say that i went to my follow up 2 weeks later with 20 pages of labs she ordered. My labs, interesting in scope, didnt reveal anything she felt the need to speak about. I found her unable to answer questions regarding thyroid function beyond "its the motor that powers everything". She became defensive when I pressed. Additionally, she doesn't acknowledge the role of sex hormones as cause in thyroid function (perimenopause). She didnt understand that one shouldn't test thyroid levels 10 days into a new medication after being off for 2 months because they take time to stabilize. I didn't feel safe having this office prescribe me medication or a plan for a disease process they understood less than my primary doctor. If you want a nutritionist, she might be a good fit. A HORRIBLE experience. "Dr." Kellman DOES NOT CARE about your healthy and wellness. After my conversation with him I instantly felt confused and taken advantage of. As I went to express my concern, in tears, "Dr." Kellman just babbled on and on not addressing anything I had mentioned and not letting me get a word in. I even asked if I could speak and he would not let me. He called his entire staff in the room for our conversation and would ask them to confirm what he was saying. I did not even care what he was saying because he was not addressing my concerns. He started listing off medication I should take to the scribe in the room and in the middle of it, turned to me and asked: "what are your issues again? Diarrhea?" This was something I had said I DID NOT HAVE. Aka this man was prescribing pills without even remember the 20 minute conversation we had about my health concerns. I felt completely bullied and left the office in a miserable state. He does not deserve the title of a doctor. He is a CROOK that TAKES ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE. I do not wish this experience on anyone. Dr. Raphael Kellman is the Best! I saw him back in 2009 when my finger tips disappeared and I had to wear band-aids. I wanted a medical doctor that also believes in alternative medicine. Dr. Kellman takes his time listening to all my complaints, history, and current issues. I started seeing him again last January 2017.
