My insurance doesn't cover him anymore and I…read moredon't live in the area, but that was my only reason for leaving him as a Dr, I otherwise would've stuck around. He's a great psychiatrist, and does a good job at separating what might be psychiatric vs somatic issues or just "bad life syndrome." He goes out of his way to help you try new and experimental treatments or trials that show promise when other options might not be as safe or don't work as well for your case. He was one of the first drs in California (that I know of, but 10y later this still seems to be true) to offer TMS and other TENS unit/TENS unit like non-medication treatments the second they started showing promise, and ditto for psychadelic research 10y ago (fuzzy on the details it's been so long, but he helped me get in one of the earlier PTSD/psychadelic studies when nothing else worked - it worked, now just to patiently wait for things to be legalized). Worth mentioning for the quality of care even though I know my case is rare, bizarre, and atypical: in round 1 of seeing him I had started getting hit by the first symptoms of a rare stomach disease that most other medical pros were ready to dismiss as an eating disorder/bulimia, despite that not fitting at all. Dr Berlow thank god didn't zero in on that like they did and even though I wouldn't figure out what it was for years, took the stomach problems into account for other treatment and symptoms. When I next saw him, I filled him in on how "oh by the way, since I last saw you I figured out that stomach problem - it's gastroparesis" and it was a eureka moment for both of us, and turns out a lot of patients with this are sent off to psychiatry when it's not psychiatric, to the point that he was more up to date on treatment and tricks for that than any GI dr I saw. I can't speak on insurance since it's been so long, but round 2 of seeing him I don't think my insurance covered him, but I didn't have issues (usually) with the superbill I had to get and then send off to insurance. I was in a situation where I needed to see a psychiatrist for a medication rx'd by my cardiologist because of how laws were back then and all other psychiatrists had a 6+ month long waitlist.

Frustrated, I went to yelp to look & stumbled upon Pacific Psych Centers and I'm SO glad I did! They were FANTASTIC. Dr. Bennett was so kind, patient, thorough and was able to fit us in same day- which is unheard of for any doctors office! Thank you so, so much!!! I will highly recommend your office to friends and family.

I then phoned back the hospital to say I had the wrong number, they called the number they had originally given to me and verified it was correct so I called back. I got the same person and started in again pretending she had no idea what I was talking about. I asked her why was she doing that. She wouldn't answer. I explained that the doctor's office gave me their number and confirmed with her that they do ketamine and asked for her name because she was so shady. She would not give it to me and hung up on me. I called back several times, asking her to speak to someone in charge, and asking for her name, and why she's behaving in an unprofessional manner. She would not budge and kept hanging up on me. I was hoping to get another person to answer the phone, but it was her each time. Finally, she gave me her name "Alex" which I don't believe is true. I then called back the hospital and told them not to refer anybody to them because of her unprofessionalism. Shocking behavior from someone administering psychiatric medication. The hospital has been notified of her treatment.

I appreciate both of you for always getting back to me the day of- and for going above and beyond to bridge communication with the psychiatrists. Dr. Mather- thank you for being kind to me throughout our interactions as well- I appreciate your care though it wasn't always personable (this is very common with doctors) and after seeing comments, I feel that 1. Many are unaware that there is a big difference between a psychiatrist and therapist (look it up people!) and 2. I would gently recommend that patients be aware of what they are paying prior to their appointments (could minimize the angry people lol). Dr. Mather- you made sure that my med needs were met (with due diligence to my health- BP and stability on med) and I appreciate you for that. I think I may have gotten lucky on the days we had our appointments because you did take the time to make suggestions (I'll never forget- limiting caffeine :)) and knowing it was a pricey out of pocket appointment, I came prepared with my questions and kept my expectations within the scope of a psychiatrist. Thank you MindPath Health- I wish you took my insurance lol, and even though I could no longer afford my appointments- I am grateful and I hope that other people understand that as patients, we also set the tone for the interaction based off our own attitudes and expectations! A very special thank you to Amber and Mark :) I truly appreciate you both!!!

She seemed irritated and was condescending so I tried to end the call. She told me that she was going to charge me $100 for a late cancellation. I told her that I didn't cancel the appointment and that a first time meeting between a psychiatrist and a patient is a "get to know each other experience." Just because I decided I didn't want to proceed with her. did not constitute a late cancellation. She told me that I had to be on the phone with her for an hour. I never agreed to being on the phone with somebody for an hour. When calling and trying to explain that I was wrongly charged $100, each person that I spoke with told me that I do need to pay the $100. This company is a total scam.

The next day Dr. Lisa had a diagnosis for us (Mast Cell Activation Disorder) and she has stood by our side as we try to navigate this continually changing disease. Dr. Lisa makes me feel calm and confident each time I speak to her and has spent hours helping us work with the school district and other professionals to find the best care for our son. We spent a TON of money and received poor technical urinalysis results (basically a print out from the lab; no added value from her as a doctor explaining it in relatable terms). Dr L then prescribed an overwhelming number of supplements (rather than finding supplements with multiple nutrients that were needed), that again cost a lot of money. I communicated that the plan was overwhelming and not going to work for us. She did not even try to keep us as a client. Needless to say we ended this relationship and lost a lot of money.
