As you can imagine juggling schedules is a hard task and they aren't couch potatoes- they do other sports. When I gave my notice I was very disappointed in the response from the management. While I can imagine its upsetting to sign up new kids and lose them, the level of conversation we had was unreal. He basically wanted me to force them to come "I'm the parent". Quite honestly I'm not going to pay for a service that my boys don't want to do and kids are way too over scheduled these days. I was very honest about that. His response to me was that "You knew they were doing these other activities when you signed them up" and "had he known I would just quit like this he never would have accepted me into the program." Im of the mindset that kids should finish what they started but I certainly wasn't going to bring my kids there to finish out the month even though we had to pay for it. Had to give thirty days notice - So we are stuck paying for a service for the following month we won't use - which we agreed to but it would have been nice if they only charged for one child instead of two. Especially since they are getting paid and not giving a service at all. Very disappointed.

It's always amazing to see these students compete at Koei Kan's annual Tai Kai tournament where all of North America's Koei Kan schools compete at all ages. Many of the Sensei started with Koei Kan when they themselves were kids, and many others discovered this karate system as adults. I ended up getting smothered a few minutes in and I tapped and said I need to reset because of my elbow. He proceeded to tell me "this is not how that works" (ON MY FIRST CLASS! ) when I asked to get up. I had to use everything I had to get to a position so I could breathe and eventually force the instructor off. I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone honestly. The owner came in and told me to quote "get the fuck out". Thuggish, little rules, not clean. Sad that an instructor has the ability to strip the fun out of such an amazing combat sport.
