I love the food here, but the service is lackluster at best. Also note that the menu prices on their website are outdated. Called in for a pickup on a weekend and was given a 15 min estimate for the food to be ready. I show up 20 min later and the restaurant was not at all busy, but it was clear that they hadn't even started preparing it yet because they were surprised I even showed up. I waited another 10-15 min for my order and they ended up getting the details of the order wrong, which I double-checked on the phone. They were kind enough to offer me water while I waited though! I always want to like this place more, but this is my experience every time I order with them and it's so disappointing.

Never misses. Food is delicious, fresh, and filling. So much food is given and the price is so on point. The cafe is cozy and aromatic, you definitely feel transported to somewhere else. The service is friendly and just enough without being overbearing. Whenever I'm in Seattle here is a must.

Veggie Combo, Kitfo & Doro Combo

Had the Veggie Combo and the Kitfo & Doro Combo. The biggest standout for me was easily the doro wot, followed by the red/yellow lentils and the injera. I thought that the kitfo was just okay and the fosolia was a bit dry. That said, I'd come back in a heartbeat. Love their huge portions!

    Vegi Combo

Highly Recommend. Went to dine yesterday, with friends. I will be going back. This is a wonderful restaurant. We ordered a veggie combo, fish, meat combo and green chicken. My favorites were the veggie combo, green chicken and the Fish Glass... which had so much flavor and was delicious. The atmosphere is really is very thoughtfully done and beautiful. The walls are a warm buttery color with art on them, and when you come in there is a beautiful subtle smell of copal or frankincense. It feels very clean and clear. The service was good and the people, kind. Note: I included a photo, taken by someone else, of the Vegi Combo at Ras Dashen. I wish I had taken a photo of our platters -- they were really beautiful.

We ordered the family combo, lamb tibbs and fish goulash - all were delicious but the lamb and fish were my favorites. Also a great value for the quality/ quantity of food - fed our group of 4 with leftovers to spare. Staff was also super friendly and food came out quickly!

This is a hidden gem in Seattle. I loved the vibe of this place. Like an ethopian fine dine plus bar which can make you feel warm at heart with its food and ambience. I loved the food. Amazing flavors. Injira was little bit dry and curries were little oily. But flavors were on point. Super fast service and very at home treatment by servers.

    Veggie combo (vegan)

I ordered their veggie combo ($17 plus tax) for dine-in, which comes with 8 different dishes. The dish came out in about 20 minutes, a little long, but indicative that everything is prepared fresh. The plate itself is minimalistically set-up, with some smokiness inside due to hula. But the music playing is soft jazz, indicating a strange, eclectic mix of vibes. Okay, the food quality: Top-notch for the most part. The misir wot and green bean dish were fantastic, in particular. The gomen was maybe just mediocre, while everything else was solid. The portion was massive, very good for the price. I was stuffed by the end, and couldn't finish all the injera base. Service-wise, my order was taken immediately, and it was easy to get the servers' attention. Definitely an above average Ethiopian spot in Seattle, which is saying something given the standard high-quality here. Very much recommended.

Vegetarian combo with Doro Wat in the center

There are so many ethnic cuisines. I like them all. However, I also seek presentation and execution. How about the cultures that eat with their fingers? No forks, no spoons, no chopsticks. Now let's talk about Ethiopian food. Ras Dashen is on of those fantastic places. The best order is the communal plate. Everyone eats from it...with your fingers. I ordered the vegetarian combo for 4 people. And added Doro Wat, the famous Ethiopian chicken stew to that combo. Then comes the unparalleled Ethiopian bread, Injera. All of it was superb. What enhanced the experience was a group table close to us singing along to toe tapping Ethiopian music. Food? Lovely. Service? Fantastic.

Ask the Community - Ras Dashen Ethiopian Cuisine

Can the vegetarian combo be made vegan? Or do they use dairy?

All the veggie dishes are vegan. I just called to confirm, and every other Ethiopian restaurant I've eaten at I always confirms this to be true.

    Is your food halal?

Ethiopian food is not Halal for the most part, as they are Christians known as, Ethiopian Orthodoxy.…

Is the Veggie Combo big enough for 2 people to share?

Yes it could easily feed 2

Be ware of parking, its just bad with only 1 or 2 spots out front. Which means your gonna have to walk about 1 to 2 blocks. No complaints about the veggie combo, but the meat combo only has two types of meat and is otherwise all veggie/lentil. You'll get better value and variety at other spots for the same price. We went on a Saturday around 7pm and were able to get a table quickly. The parking situation is a bit tricky as from our visit, we were only able to find neighborhood streetside parking on a narrow street that made maneuvering difficult. As for the restaurant, it wasn't too busy when we went - maybe about 2 other parties at the time. The restaurant itself felt very cozy and homey, as you could see from the other interior photos. Service is alright - we seated ourselves and called for the auntie who owned the restaurant to get our order in. We got our food in about 10 minutes, pretty fast considering it was basically only people manning the restaurant. We got the vegetable platter with Yegee Tibs in the middle, which came to about $50. This platter is generous in terms of food, with excellent variety, which I love about Ethiopian food. This was more than enough food to fill us up with leftovers for about one more meal. As for the ingredients on the platter, I thought the injera was delicious - yeasty and robust enough to hold any of the entrees. All of the vegetables on the platter were soft, but had good integrity - it wasn't mushy and was seasoned nicely. The Yegee Tibs was scrumptious, nicely seasoned lamb with a savory aftertaste. This, combined with the vegetable sides was divine. Unfortunately, we wanted to order the Quanta Firfir, but they were out when we went - we definitely will pay Meskel another visit to give that dish a try! (4.5 stars)
