Food: Honestly if you like Indian, you can't go wrong. A mix of delicious mushes of meat, rice, random sides, all mushed together to make a conundrum of mind blowing bursts of flavors in your mouth...so down! But we got the: - Tikka Chance on Me: Well designed bowl so that before I mixed all the ingredients into an unrecognizable mush, I was able to taste a pretty damn good Chicken tikka, sauteed spinach, which maybe can also be called saag(?), flavorful basmati rice, and many other toppings. This may be the go to bowl for most people! - Caul Me Maybe: I mean the names themselves are pretty dope and unforgettable, but my fiancee liked this one a lot for its interesting flavors. Located near Wily office, this place is like the Indian version of chipotle. You can either make your own bowls or trust them to assemble something delectable. They have different bases like basmati rice, turmeric rice, salad leaves, vermicelli and my personal favorite, super grains! You can choose between chicken tikka, beef lamb, shrimp, vegan tikki and tofu cauflower. Top it off with indian curry sauces, fresh vegetables and chutneys to make for a scrumptious meal. The place has a unique ambiance and has plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. They are vegetarian/vegan friendly and reasonably priced, with a load bowl coming out to be just under $10. This latest addition to the wave of ballpark-adjacent development is something I've been waiting for: Indian fast casual. Service was a bit of a struggle; there seemed to be consistently one person too few in the assembly line, and they were struggling to keep up with demand for ingredients. I skipped toppings at the end because there was no one ready to add them for me and I didn't want to hold up the line. All this is because they were crowded on a peak summer night before a baseball game, but since this is next to the park and they signed up for these crowds, I'd suggest to them to work on hiring more people and getting more efficient during peak hours like that. But the food was pretty impressive. South Indian rice noodles topped with some sweet potato and pea patties and various vegetables and sauces. The whole spices were evident, the flavors many, and it was something I hadn't had before. And the price was right too. I've been saying for years that Indian fast food needs to happen, and this has been perhaps the best attempt at it I've seen so far. Tried chicken tiki with tomato sauce, green beans with basmati rice. Eh not as flavorful as some other Indian spots I've been to but good portion size. The bowl was bland and green beans are too crunchy and don't compliment the dish I created well. The tomato garlic sauce just taste canned tomato sauce straight from the jar. The garlic naan bread was yucky. It was bland and gummy tasting. I personally wouldn't eat here again but there are a lot of options to mix and match ingredients and flavor profiles for a quick Indian meal if you so choose. read more

My husband and I visited RASA on a Friday night for a casual dinner. The locations is great near the Navy Yard-Ball Park Metro. We arrived a bit after 7:30pm and had no problem walking right up to order and easily found seats too. While the concept is like Chipotle, Cava, Roti, etc. the quality is far superior than the typical fast casual restaurant. The decor is fun, bright, and colorful! It seems very family-oriented and this was definitely noticeable in the young families here on Friday night. I loved the hanging basket chairs which are perfect for relaxing and talking after a delicious meal! Staff was super friendly and patient from greeting, to making our bowls, to ringing us out, to bringing out our naan. You can BYO or go with a handcrafted bowl of their design. Both my husband and I chose to BYO. I LOVE that all the "top it off" items are free! I chose the sexygreens (assorted greenery), chicken tikka, tamarind chili sauce, charred eggplant, kachumber salad, mango salsa, masala beets, and coriander chili chutney. I loved the chicken tikka-very tender and flavorful. The tamarind chili sauce packed a nice punch as did the coriander chili chutney. All this for $9! My husband had basmati rice and spiced beef as his base and main and loved his bowl too! We also ordered one order of garlic naan, which was hot, fluffy, and garlicky! Portion on all ingredients were generous and I left super stuffed after dinner. Everything was fresh and high quality. THE BIG: The chipotle of indian food. Located in Navy Yard right off the metro, essentially no parking...unless you want to park inside Nat's Park. Gorgeous interior that features these 3 float chairs at the beginning. Lunch rush is real, so be cognizant on when you come eat. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I feel kinda coool walking into this place because you have to open this gigantic blue door. Once you go inside, the door closes eerily slow, kinda like how ali baba walked into the cave of wonders. There are a few pre-crafted bowls you can choose from ranging from $9-$11. I ultimately chose the create your own option, which you get to select a one base, one protein, one veggie, and unlimited sides, sauce and toppings. I got the noodles with chicken, brussel sprouts and ALL the toppings with coconut ginger sauce. Super delicious! They also have local craft kombucha, soda, and drinks! THE FINAL BAMBOO: Ultimately $9.64 for a create your own bowl that filled me up. Highly recommend and I'll definitely be back. read more

This was a long time coming. Fast casual and extremely elegant. Food is a ritual than a chore. Indian cooking is complicated so kudos to this restaurant for finding out how to make it simple for customers and give them an abundant choice. We are all now used to the customization of out food both for variety and palate and Rasa caters to that trend. I choose supergrains (very difficult to make at home) with Shrimp (seems very popular) with tomato garlic sauce (the tamarind chili may be a bit more spicier) i chose only a few toppings (toppings are unlimited) I felt like I was in a Indian festival banquet with hundreds of chefs working for me! Next time I'm here I will probably check out the Rasa recommended "Tikka Chance On Me" or "Aloo Need Is Love" (Aloo= potato in Hindi) . If you are included to try something that is not available probably in any Indian restaurant in the US go for the "Oh My Goodness" - it's gotJackfruit - a memory from my childhood and is difficult to cook but a delicacy. I don't come often to Navy Yard or to Nationals Games but $9 for a bowl is definitely a bargain anywhere in Washington DC. I parked on the street for $2 an hour 2 hour limit but saw plenty of other parking. Of course the metro is a block away. I did the thing that most people from the Southern State of Telangana do (maybe all over India) crave for after a meal. A cup of Indian tea. I got that dream to come true as well. Clearly I was very excited to write this review. The Washington Post review of this restaurant made me drive 27 minutes (17 miles) on a Saturday to Rasa. It was worth it. Rasa is the Chipotle of Indian food without any scandal or e coli. No, they are the Chipotle only in concept (fast casual) and more the Maketto (on H Street NE) in every other way. Rasa is the newest fast casual restaurant to take over Navy Yard and soon DC (I have no doubt). Here's what's to love: 1) The atmosphere- The bright colored art, rainbow thread, pink boxes, and hanging basket chairs makes you forget you're in a fast casual restaurant. Instead, it allows you to escape into an exotic art gallery full of color. 2) The staff- They are friendly, especially those tied to the business. You can tell they have a lot of pride for their restaurant and work to make sure you have a positive experience. 3) The food- It really is better than fast casual. They ethically source their ingredients and serve up some of the best chicken tikka masala in the city. I recommend building your own bowl and making sure you get the lentil crisps at the end. All the small toppings are free! Also, they have plenty of vegetarian options. 4) The drinks- They serve four home made juices and the limeade is addicting (thank goodness for free refills!). They also serve a masala gin and tonic that is unique and full of flavor. 5) The price- My wife and I ordered bowls, naan (which is warm and puffy), a juice and a gin and tonic. It only came to $35 or so! Rasa is a much needed addition to the DC dining scene and let's hope they find similar success to other DC brands like Cava, Sweetgreen, and &pizza. I got the Open Sesame with a few additions and substitutions, and it all made for a very tasty concoction. I love that you can get fresh young coconuts here (they open them for you right there at the counter.) I think next time I will need to try the Home Cooking or at least something with the turmeric ginger shrimp though, because that's what my friends ordered and it looked bomb-diggity. Even better than the very tasty food you'll get at RASA, and the gorgeous space they have decorated and brought to DC, is the story behind the business. These guys have a true local and philanthropic story behind their business, with constant giving back to DC Central Kitchen and an origin story that stems from two best friends growing up in the restaurant business and wanting to forge a path of their own. I hope the food is good because my pick up experience was terrible. There was a younger girl working with an older woman and a guy on 4/14/23 at approximately 2:40pm. I went to pick up my food, and she asked my name. I told her and she didn't hear me. I repeated myself and showed her my screen. Turns out my food was sitting in front of me the whole time. But instead of checking and trying again she goes and talks shit about me to her coworkers like I couldn't understand her. It's definitely the chipotle concept but with tasty Indian food. I wasn't too wild about the naan bread but my main dish was fantastic. I ordered the tikka chance on me with grilled Chicken in a garlic tomato sauce. The only thing I added were beets and micro greens. The cilantro mint sauce and yogurt drizzle all work great together. Also the sautéed spinach that comes with this dish almost tastes like Saag paneer. If this fast casual concept came to San Diego it would be a huge hit. Spice masters! This is my second visit at RASA and learned to order from the "We Got You" preselected bowls instead of making my own. The flavors were perfection! It was much better than when I selected which dressings, sauces, chutneys, toppings, etc. to be in my DIY bowl. I ordered the Home Cooking bowl comprised of juicy turmeric ginger shrimp, sweet and spicy tamarind chili sauce, soft Indian rice noodles, crunchy green beans, sweet mango salsa, creamy mango coconut yogurt, and tamarind ginger chutney. It was good but I think I expected more "peanut" taste in the peanut sauce. I have to admit, this concept (and the food) is highly similar to its next door neighbor, Roti, which I love!! Hope they can both successfully coexist in this location. Also (non-food related) the decor is very well done. I had only tried Indian 'fast casual' at location before - Merzi - and I was thoroughly disappointed that time. However over a year had passed since that so I decided to give the concept another shot. Living and working in NW DC (and not being a huge baseball fan), I rarely head to Navy Yard. Nonetheless, after hearing numerous rave reviews, I decided to head over on a weekday for lunch to see what they had to offer. RASA definitely plays the part of a yuppie Indian restaurant (for better and worse). The signage and storefront look very colorful, including the massive turqouise-ish door. The interior is modern-looking with lots of art fixtures and quirky decor. It wasn't too crowded when we went. The food itself is interesting. It definitely tastes more like Indian fusion than pure Indian food - which I was expecting. It follows a Chipotle-esque build your own bowl format (with preset recipe choices included for your convenience). They have a lot of traditional ingredients/options to throw into your bowl such as chickpeas or and various chutneys. Now while they taste good, they don't necessarily taste as Indian. The chickpeas for example I would expect to be a little more intensely flavored, but perhaps they recognize that if everything were bursting with flavor the dish would be overpowering. I got a mix of chicken with a bunch of various toppings, treating it more like a chipotle experience than an indian one - just adding whatever sounded good by itself in my head. This consequentially resulted in my meal being more a chipotle experience than an Indian one as well. The meal tasted good and was a lot of food for lunch - I probably could have made a second meal out of it. However, I did not really feel like the meal tasted Indian to me. In contrast - a place like Cava does a good job of simplifying the mediterranean cuisine without ridding it of its identity. I think if RASA were able to focus a little more on bringing the desi aspect to the dishes, I would enjoy it far more. It is completely possible however that if I had gotten one of their preset menu options I would have felt that south asian element a bit more. All in all, I definitely will return to give the restaurant another try as the quality of the food is good at the core. read more

Mixed reviews for this place. I went for the first time with a couple of friends for a meal before the Washington Spirit game. The food was fine, tasty even, but somewhat expensive for what it is. The service was painfully slow; it took nearly a half hour to get through a line with maybe twenty people ahead of me. Considering that the Nationals were p-laying as well as the Spirit, you would think they would have had more staff on hand. It would have been nice to sit outside, but unfortunately the gutter drains into a bucket along the wall beside the outdoor chairs and tables, and it was swarming with mosquitoes. The sauces were not too flavorful and they don't even give a side of naan like most places. I didn't even realize I was missing a fast-casual option in my life until I found Rasa - so good! I love Indian food so was already pretty excited. The location is great - close to the metro/Nats stadium and I even found a parking spot right in the front. I was a bit overwhelmed with the menu, so the staff suggested a build-your-own bowl. I got chicken tikka with supergrains, spinach and delicious lemon turmeric rice. All the veggies looked incredible, so I added those. They have this super hot sauce that you can get on the side that is perfection. Overall, this was one of the best fast-casual meals I've ever had. And very filling! read more

This place is easily the most flavorful fast casual option in D.C. I'm not a big fan of Indian food, but this place certainly surprised me. They serve generous portions for a reasonable price and their pre-selection of food on the menu are great. I ordered the "Tiki Change on me" with mix greens instead of the rice and OMG, it was amazing. I was full before I finished half of the bowl. There is just so many options and sauces to pick from. You can even make your own bowl if you'd like. Apparently they grind their spices from a grinder which was bought in India by the owner -- throwing in a little more authenticity your way. My most favorite part of this place - is that they had different types of spiced lemonade -- I had of a turmeric ginger lemonade. And it was so GOOD! Their customer service was excellent - very helpful in recommending options first timers. It was a service with a smile and was very respectful. The location is nice and conveniently located very close to the Navy Yard Metro station and the Nat's station and not too far of a walk from the Water Front Station if you want to take a 15 minute hike. As a first timer to this place, I'd go back to this place and will potentially become a regular. I highly recommend giving this place a try! read more

Anddd last but not least, their toppings. They have SO many delish options available, it's not even funny. Some of my favorites include: cucumber cubes, masala beets, mango salsa, pickled onions, microgreens, anddd pretty much all of their chutneys, ha. And they have even more available!!!! I was a little confused by the concept of this restaurant- it seemed like Chipotle style Indian food. However, I was pleasantly surprised that all the items I got on the menu were pretty delicious and included a wide range of proteins, grains, and veggies. The sweet potato option for the protein was delicious and I was impressed with how the chefs blended traditional Indian condiments with more Westernized concepts. I didn't think some of the options blended together taste wise as much as they intended it to, however, which is the reason why I'm giving it 4 stars. The ambience is lovely though and perfect for casual eating. There are some very relaxing hanging seating options and the walls are very colorful and hint at the colors seen in the streets of India. Even the artwork on the walls is reflective of American Indian experiences, which was refreshing to see. It also was not very crowded on a Saturday night and the staff was very helpful when explaining what the food options were. $12 will get you a HUGE bowl of food, first time I've felt satisfied by a $12 dinner in DC. I was feeling like treating myself so I also grabbed a mango lassi. Rasa is customizable counter style but they also have pre-grouped selections like Tikka Chance on Me, which I ordered, but added extra free veggie toppings (though other toppings maybe extra charge). I love RASA! It's a build-your-own fast food restaurant (similar to Chipotle and CAVA) but Indian and you can pick your protein, sauce, veggie, etc. I had no idea what I was doing when I was ordering but I knew it was going to be good no matter what. I ordered half sexy greens and basmati rice with tikki chicken, tomato garlic sauce (like butter chicken sauce), grilled eggplant (it's kind of tangy), mint cilantro chutney dressing, corn, sunflower seeds and a side of sautéed spinach. It was sooo delicious (imo). I also got mini samosas, mango lassi and an extra spicy sauce - the spicy sauce is very hot! RASA has a great selection to build your perfect bowl. One of the main reasons I'd come back again is its interior design. It looks like a wonderland of a child, who grew up to become a progressive person with the passion for sharing his home cooking and culture to the greater audience. Oh wait, that's the story behind RASA that I was lucky enough to hear! Besides the ambiance, the food is also phenomenal and very convenient to get. It is pretty much chipotle, but with Indian food and with much more variety of spice, vegetables, and meat options. I take that back, it is MUCH better than Chiptole!
