    Goat Curry and naan
    Hammed A.

SpiceX Indian restaurant is a good local hidden gem located in L'Enfant Plaza food court. A good option for tourists frequenting the area, but I'm disappointed this Indian restaurant is hidden in L'Enfant Plaza. Mostly government workers and tourists in this SW area frequent L'Enfant Plaza and I wonder how much more successful this business would be if it were situated along the DuPont Circle, 18th Street, or Connecticut Avenue corridors. The customer service is good. The lady who took my order did a good job of explaining the entree vs rice bowl options. The portions are adequate and the menu options are not complicated. I ordered goat curry which was delicious. So was the plain naan. There is seating in the restaurant which is a plus because I do not believe any other restaurant in L'Enfant Plaza is enclosed and has indoor seating. Overall a good experience and I will return.

Chicken Tikka Masala with naan bread

Food is good but very expensive for lunch. Got the chicken tikka masala $7.99 with naan bread $2.50 and my total was $11.59 with taxes. The bowls are $10.+ But I did not want rice. You also get a very small portion.

Located in the L'Enfant Plaza. Came across this place while finding a lunch place during our DC visit. More of a take out place even though they do have couple of tables for dine in. Best part about this place is the food is very affordable. You can make your own bowls/plates; or pick up their de facto options. We picked up their Butter chicken masala and chicken tikka masala plates. Ordered a few Naans on the side as the quantity of the curries were more than adequate. Two plates were plenty for 4 people. We really enjoyed the food. Spice level was not up to my expectation, and it was very flavorful. Loved the food. The staffs were so kind and friendly. Service was very quick as you pick up your food from the counter itself. There's plenty of tables in the plaza to have an enjoy the food even though we got their dine-in tables! A recommended place!

I don't have a lot of experience with Indian food. Theu were so nice and walked me through everything. The butter chicken was one of the best lunches I have ever had. What a blessing to have it at L'Enfant!

Great food, especially for the price. The naan is a standout as it's quite literally made in front of you. Highly recommend!

Jab's version ($10) is the best dupe I've ever had! I ordered it as a carryout item, and I was wary that it wouldn't hold up to the transport and would be soggy. Jab packaged it thoughtfully - all of the sauces were served on the side - and the flash-fried spinach stayed perfectly crispy and wasn't greasy at all! Serving the sauces on the side is actually even better because then I was able to customize the sauce levels and flavors. I would definitely come back and order this again. I also ordered the Chicken Makhani ($20) because I'm basic like that. It comes with rice. You can customize the spice levels, and yes, I ordered mild (...I SAID I was basic). The butter chicken was good but doesn't crack the list of my favorites. The chicken was a little dry and they use a grilled/barbecued chicken which gave it a smoky flavor. The mild was quite mild, I actually think I could handle a slightly spicier level here. I'm happy I tried this place - will come back to try more.

Recommend starting with the Ragda Pattice and your main dish butter or tandori chicken. If they are serving scallops, order it! Whatever main dish you order, you have to order one of their house made chutneys. We really enjoyed the mango chutney. Also, don't forget the naan! We like plain or garlic. They are about a 5-7 min walk from the Capital One Arena. So, it is best to make reservations just in case you are trying to dine here when there is an event at Capital One. It gets crowded! Was pleased to see that the restaurant is still around (and super busy). No reservations, but we were lucky enough that there were enough seats at the bar, otherwise I don't think we would've been able to eat here at all. So hard to choose from a menu where everything sounded so good. We got the palak chaat, bhindi ka lonj, gobhi mattar, mint paratha, vegetable pulao, gujarati lasagne, and chili and olive oil naan. Standouts were the palak chaat and mint paratha. The palak chaat was the most well-balanced dish that satisfied every part of the flavor wheel: crispy spinach fritters, some tang from the yogurt and tamarind, sweetness from the date, and a lovely savoriness. The mint paratha was wonderfully flaky and herbaceous. The other dishes were good, but not particularly exciting. For desserts, we had the mango rasmalai and gulab jamun. Generally love ordering gulab jamun whenever I can, and it really hit the spot. The cardamom ice cream was the perfect pairing for it. I can kind of see where they were going with the mango rasmalai and the different textures/presenations of mango, but personally did not find it to be that memorable. Overall, not as mind-blowing as I remember but still enjoyed the meal. Definitely recommend making reservations if you want a table.

Jumping into my experience. I didn't make reservations and the hostess was so kind to accommodate me and inform me of other great opportunities to visit, one being their Pani Puri experience. Needless to say, I'll be back! I sat at the bar and received A+ service from Amanda who was supported by Renee. Amanda's personality is what you'd appreciate in a bartender, she knew the menu top to bottom and was excellent with recommending dishes and cocktails. Drinks: Kaapi Martini- a rich flavored Chai espresso martini. This drink, while delicious, was more on the creamy side and needed a half ounce more of liquor to take it from latte to cocktail. Other than that, the rich Chai taste was certainly divine but I like to have a break from sweetness or milky drinks when enjoying cocktails. Malabar- the STAR! This smokey drink was made with elite status in mind. It's the type of drink with a perfect credit score and a few properties in the Maldives-gosh this was amazing! The tequila stirred with Campari, fresh lemon, rose, and mezcal were paired together so beautifully, each supporting the other without canceling out in taste. It was the perfect balance and the smokiness added a mysterious flavor to the mix. I absolutely loved it! Golden Hour- another divine drink. Its bright color brought a festive vibe to the atmosphere and the vodka shaken with herbal liqueur, Indian turmeric, sweet pineapple, and fresh lime balanced well. It wasn't too sweet but it carried the right flavors with the turmeric and pineapple setting the tone with a citrus/warming feel. Food The Chaat and Street Food section: SPDP-toasted puffed up puris stuffed with potato, red onion and cilantro and topped with sweet yogurt, tamarind, and green chutneys. The final component was sev added on top, which is crunchy chickpea noodles. This dish, while messy to eat, is exactly what you want to order. IT WAS AMAZING! Let's explore the flavor profiles on this dish....first, the balance of sweet and spicy was insane! Imagine taking a bite and your mouth is hit with some sweet heat, that's what the sweet yogurt and tamarind offered all while the green chutney cooled down your mouth. It was ridiculously flavorful and divine! The Pav section: KFC sandwich aka Kashmiri Fried Chicken sandwich- the BEST chicken sandwich in town! As someone who adores a good chicken sandwich, there is a lot to be said about one whose flavor profile sweeps you off your feet with just one bite. The chicken breast was the juiciest and most perfectly seasoned!!!!! Brined to perfection, this chicken breast was amazingly juicy. Placed on a sweet toasted buttery bun and topped with Maggi-mayo and sweet pickles, I was stopped in my tracks by how delicious this was-my goodness! Sweets Gulab Jamun- This is the way to conclude a beautiful culinary experience. The Gulab Jamun was impeccable in taste and I tried a scoop of their ice cream on the side, sending my sweet tooth on the wild side. Both were perfect. Would I return? YES! You probably can't keep me away from this place!!!!! Do I recommend? ABSOLUTELY! Eggplant and hummus were simmered until soft and flavorful, with a subtle smoky aroma. The addition of mint leaves enhanced the flavor. Bone Marrow: Beef tartare with bone marrow and pomegranate seeds--how interesting! The first two provided a rich, fatty texture and intense aroma, while the latter burst in your mouth occasionally, juicy, tangy, and refreshing. Brussels Sprouts: Brussels sprouts with grapes, walnuts, fig jam, and mint yogurt--a whimsical yet magical combination... The Brussels sprouts offered a fresh, vegetal aroma and a slightly roasted aroma; the walnuts provided a nutty richness and crunch; the fruit provided a fresh sweet and sour taste and plenty of juice; and the yogurt acted as a binder between the flavors while adding a touch of minty coolness. Duck Shawarma: My friend and I thought: ...Peking duck? The skin was soft, the meat tender, not gamey, with a subtle smoky flavor; the fig and lemon sauce was sweet and refreshing; the small pita pillows held the meat securely, better than the lettuce what might have been too cold. Lamb Stuffed Grape Leaves: Black rice was wrapped in grape leaves and simmered with minced lamb. The rice absorbed the fragrance of the grape leaves, similar to lotus leaves (my friend and I thought: lamb version of sticky rice chicken糯米雞...?). The lamb, however, was served separately at the bottom of the pot and didn't absorb much flavor; overall, it was intensely sour. In short, this dish was a bit oddly designed, and it was the only one we didn't finish because the sourness was unbearable. Pita Bread: The bread was thin yet chewy, with a rough, slightly powdery surface, making it substantial and satisfying. I especially loved the "everything wrapped in a big pancake" style!
